I have a Roush setup on mine with Cats. Great sound. Gets compliments all the time. The Cats failed to meet emissions at 88000 miles and Roush replaced them, with labor, with no problem at all!
I’m the weird who wants a system that’s quiet unless it’s fully mashed. Not sure if a system like that exists, but that’s who I want. I don’t want to pull up to my house at 2 in the morning and wake up the neighborhood. But if I slam the pedal I want to hear it.
I want duels with one side super flowing and other side quiet factory. There would be a cut out style diverter. When i want it quite , i can diverter out on side only. If i want sound , it goes out the other side. Lastly a option to turn it to both flowing.
Borla fetches a pretty expensive price but definitely worth it turns heads in town everywhere I go it’s definitely worth every dollar drone is minimal in the cabin thanks for the video it sold me on the atak
+The Eastern front- My thoughts exaaaaaaactly... Also, they're too cheap to run polished stainless steel further back so the afterthought bolt on exhaust tip clamps aren't showing. Very disappointing to say the least. Class dismissed.
Exhaust systems are truly a matter of personal taste, so I can't say what you may like or not like. What I can say is that Borla's systems are super nice, and never have any drone while cruising down the road. The ATAK version *is* the loudest they offer though, so when you get on the throttle its going to be loud. I'd consider looking into their S-Type system for a step down in aggressiveness, but the same great throaty tone. -Zach
I just bought a new 2018 F-150 Crewcab STX with the 2.7 Ecoboost and I'm torn between the MBRP dual cat-back and the Flowmaster American Thunder. I Love how super quiet the cab is a highway speeds and most of my commute is spent on the freeway. I just installed the Airaid MXP Cold Air Intake yesterday on your recommendation (AWESOME Thank You) which improves the turbo lag and throttle response. How is the interior cabin drone with the super 40 Flowmaster at highway speeds and what kind of performance gains can I expect with the intake and exhaust?
I'm just about sold on that Roush system! The ATAK sounds great but is above budget for me, especially since I plan on having a shop do the install. I'm going to browse around more, but that Roush will very likely go in my truck.
The RangersEdge yeah it would be worth the extra over the Flowmaster price considering all you get with ATAK. I had Flow 40 on my last 5.0 truck and it worked well but not excited about doing that again as it didn't have much volume even if it sounded sweet.
Late response... the borla rear exit just doesn't do it for me because of fitment, driver's side rear pipe is so low it covers half the rear diff cover and on a lifted truck would look silly. Roush's Single muffler with a Y at exit is just weird. If Roush or Borla just sold si/do mufflers like Flowmaster they would increase sales even if they went for $200. I want something that sounds good at 6000 rpm and Flowmaster I think sounds the best for that. My Magnaflow is quite when creepin through traffic but 4k and up it's a cop magnet. Running a Magnaflow si/do 3" in dual 2-1/2 out rear with resonator delete. And No, the the Borla pro sx isn't in the running ( weak ) and there is no si/do Xr-1 I've found and reviews of they're crate mufflers aren't good as far a quality, rust out.
I think I will be welding up a delta flow muffler and keep the stock pipes (just like I did with my old truck). If it looks stock you will not get stopped by the cops!
I just came home with a gorgeous 2013 special edition fx4 with the 5.0 Just tell me what to do. (As if it were yours, and you had a normal person's budget) Please!!🙏
Agreed, I was going to go with the Borla Atak bc of the awesome sound and low interior drone but the driver’s side pipe that crosses over AFTER going over the rear axle killed it for me. Just looks goofy and is definitely noticeable when driving behind a truck with this setup. I am going to go with the Solo Performance Mach-X system instead.
My prob is “ drone “ sound in cab. I’m married with kids... so... lol.. that happened on last exhaust and never heard the end of it. Every one of these removes Rez that is made to eliminate the drone sound.... so... does the cab drone is the real question... all of them sound good outside to me.
That's the problem I ran into. I had a flowmaster system installed and it was cool at first and after a few months it started driving me crazy. I've since added an aftermarket resonator to quiet it down, that wasn't enough so I swapped the muffler to Magnaflows quietest muffler and its still louder than I like. I would put the factory exhaust back on but I didn't keep it. Now the shitty welds only last about a year and they start leaking so I have to take it back in to get them re welded. I might have to bite the bullet and just order a complete header back system that is the closest to stock I can get.
Anyone know if you can run an aftermarket exhaust without a custom tune on the '11 3.5L Ecoboost? I've heard horror stories of people blowing their engines and/or turbos from mods (especially tunes).
I Had the Roush on my 5.0 14 FX4. Sounds great love the feel thru the gas pedal. But damn! The drone was anything but nice on trips. Even added a quality resonator, it helped but not enough. My hunting buddies hated it. Sold it on offerup for a big loss. Put the stock back on, still there now.
Thanks for this. I was between Roush and Corsa. Looks like Corsa it is, which my wife and 7 month old will appreciate when we visit family 5 hours away.
You may see small fuel economy gains when installing an aftermarket system like these due to getting rid of the restrictive stock system. That being said, I wouldn't install an exhaust system looking specifically for fuel economy gains. They'll be thrown out the window as soon as you put your foot in the gas anyway. 😂 -Zach
