Sadly it has become a predatory thing for triple A titles, let's just do enough effort for people to buy it, the mod community will do the rest for us... sadly that does mean both the community and the Game suffers greatly for it
@@wwaxwork They clearly don't earn enough, I mean, Sure they earn donations but their mods are basically 'The game' at this point xD they deserve more recognition honestly.
i think it mutual benefit for both EA and modders, its true the sims move around community by mods but they still need the base game to begin with and that is very important
welcome to the pc modding community its been like this for awhile across the board. most games have a ton of paid mods and ways to donate so if you feel like giving a little for a quality product you can. modders mod for fun and use free mods as a way to further their skill set. some of them go on to get jobs in the industry so its not all bad. we get free mods and the good ones get exposer
@@wwaxwork at least Skyrim and Fallout are playable without any mods, and pretty 'completed' when its released, its Bugthesda but still. Meanwhile The Sims 4 need mods to make it playable, and basically to fix everything that missing from the base game. Incomplete mess.
@@moch.farisdzulfiqar6123 I play all of the above.... and yeah at least skyrim and fallout are complete with multiple playthroughs without getting bored mods or no mods, even if its buggier than a termite mound. Sims 4 is basically being carried BY the modders which really sucks. Modding should be modding a game to add things. spin things, and so on, not be the games playability.
Well, Sims mods have always been prevalent... Have they? Or is it because the base game is so barren and most content locked behind paywall to the point sims mods have always been popular?
@@SkipTheKip Those previous entries had much more substantial content, even when comparing the base game of 2 and 3 to sims 4 with all the current expansions the previous two have much more depth to the sims.
@@CarlsSimGuides well the difference is the game is basically unplayable without mods because its either broken or just extremely boring. The passed games didnt have this requirement.
A H Sure, mods have always been part of the gameplay experience of The Sims, but for some reason The Sims 4 just has such limited gameplay/storytelling options compared to the rest. Back when I played Sims 2 and 3 I barely used mods, 1 or 2 tops, but I must have at least 10 of the mods in this video just to make the game a bit more realistic. I admit I could be biased tho, this is coming from a family player that doesn’t have all packs.
Same with Cities Skylines. This game lacks so many features that just should be in the base game. But I must say the recent DLCs they put out such as Industries and Park Life are quite good.
Turbodriver just came out with a more pg friendly "Wonderful Whims," which takes the attraction system and other non-mature aspects and puts them into a separate mod.
This was the first I heard about it. I was like "Finally! I can have the attraction and menstrual system in the PG save file I share with kids!". But then I looked and they've still got STDs and stuff, so maybe when they get a little older. 😅
pardon me i have some questions about mod and i hope you can help.first of all what is custom content?and second when a mod is enable how it will work in game???i mean for example a mod is fight animation so it will just work until the sim ll be in that mood??!!

it makes me really mad that EA is basically riding off the backs of all these modders for free. I know modders dont have to do what they do, but its just gross that EA is making money off this shitty game when all the actual good features in it are 3rd party made.
Quick note: I'm aware of Arnie's Brookheights open world project, forgot 3x to include a brief bit about it. It could certainly belong in this list... but I cannot test it, as it launches several days from posting. I'll cover this when it releases because it could definitely be huge and seems to have potential, I'm just focusing on mods that exist now and, at the same time, I'd like to make sure something is stable before I recommend it. Best of luck to that project, I just can't do anything with it right now and I messed up. I was feeling a bit tired when I meant to mention it toward the end.
Thank you so much for this video man you literally made it when I was scrolling for hours best mods list 😂 and found none that were good. You’re a legend!
These are all great but I don't want 50+ mods in my game when they should've already had these features to begin with. I've been happily enjoying Sims 3 again :)
It's ok, because I think Brookheights will be in a class all its own, and will probably deserve a LOT of individual coverage. Probably more than you can do in one video. I look forward to your take on it.
One of other mods i can't play without is SRsly's complete cooking overhaul (expands lists of ingredients, adds buying groceries, changes cakes into baking skill , and other stuff , since it's still being expanded) :)
YES! I was using that but felt it would be cool if we can make some of the ingredients ourselves. Etc eggs can be obtained from chicken coop (like the first mod Carl showed) or we can have our own flour mill or churn our own butter. I wanna create a mod like this so badly but I'm busy with college 😭
pardon me i have some questions about mod and i hope you can help.first of all what is custom content?and second when a mod is enable how it will work in game???i mean for example a mod is fight animation so it will just work until the sim ll be in that mood??!!
It's worth to mention small mods by Bienchen. It's a German modder, but everything has a description in English on the Mods page. This creator has given us a variety of tuning mods, that can tweak things from certain packs. And my favorite thing - stop townies from being endlessly generated. I just can't be thankful enough for these mods, they have made my game very comfortable. Very much worthy of checking out.
@@companyomidayendeh5325 maybe you should google it for yourself. CC are the data packages like clothing or changed/recolored things from the games build files. And there are script mods that allow your sims to do certain things. both datapackages can be shoved in your mods folder in sims 4 and only there. documents, EA, Sims 4, mods. Folders shouldnt be more than 2 layers deep. Turn on the allow script mods button in game and restart. When you wanna use mods start with simple stuff and read/google the instructions beforehand. Many script mods you have to update otherwise they wont function properly.
It's not a perfect fix, but sacrificial mods does have a pie menu you can download. It categorizes all his mods into the interaction menu so you don't have to look for everything. It's very useful. I just wish more modders had this option
I see on Nexus the MSM (Mod Settings Menu) by colonolNutty. I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, i haven't try it my self, but maybe it's a lead for you.
@@PrinceGrenouille oh yeah, i use it because they mentioned it in their other work.. not the community library but THAT one hehe. But what i mean was a mod manager like nexus's vortex or the better one.
One mod I like and don’t see mentioned is the fashion police mod. It really helps if you hate the townies’ random outfits. The other solution is to download a ton of sims from gallery into your library and mess with MC command center population settings
i wonder what that says about skyrim. or basically all of Bethesda open world games. but at the same time if people didn't at least enjoy some of it they wouldn't bother modding it.
I don’t think it shows anything horrible. People will make mods because they want certain things in the series. We don’t claim that sims 1-3 are terrible because they have mods. It’s just part of what people do for whatever reasons
Lumpinou has added a suite of gameplay mods that add a lot of depth to the game. Contextual Interactions allows sims to discuss their life events like promotions, relationships, and pregnancy. Road to Romance adds a ton of romantic interactions, allows your sim to ask for relationship advice, and turns romantic interactions into a skill. Friends with Benefits creates a new relationship status and allows your sims to flirt, kiss, and woohoo without growing the romance bar. She's also created a religion mod and a psychic mod, but I don't have those in my game so I can't speak to them. Adding Contextual Interactions, Road to Romance, and Friends with Benefits to my game has added a lot of depth to it.
Yeah I just got contextual interactions! I love being able to tell my friends/family that I graduated from college or got promoted or about my nice holiday I had yesterday. Sims also get moodlets related to some of them so they'll actually feel happy their spouse got a promotion.
I have her rambunctious religions and have had a lot of sim fights over them lol. But her woohoo wellness mods are also worth mentioning. It's aiming to take over the reproductive health system in wicked whims but they work well in tandem as well. The best feature is choosing a sim's preference for kids and really alters the experience if they didn't want kids but become pregnant.
some mods I use and people may find useful: - Scarletqueencat - No required ingredients - Weerbesu - Longer parties & more guests - LittleDica - Old School CAS Room
Yeah, I have all Sims games since 2000 and never downloaded mods until Sims 4. Now I have over 150 mods just to fix stupid stuff, like Sims not playing with clay every 5 mins.
@@Kitsuiko people have been making mods since the Sims 1 regardless of how many simmers actually use them...I know (and use) many mods that don't fix glitches...modding has gone on for a looooong time. I've been a simmer for over 20 years now...Will Wright made sure to open the code since Sims 1 so people could customize their game the way they wanted. I never bothered to downloaded mods until Sims 4 because I feared ruining my game thanks to forum horror stories of how mods could destroy saves. I was so frustrated in Sims 4 from all of the bugs and unbalanced behaviors that I finally caved in and used mods to problems EA hasnt fixed. I feel that both Sims 2 and Sims 3 were patched satisfactory enough for me to not have to download fixes like I must for 4. Not sure why you're trying to start an argument.
Mods are really saving this game, however, from what I understand, the mod friendly engine is also what is causing all the bugs whenever Maxis adds new packs and updates. So there are both positives and negatives. But thanks to modders, we can download fixes as well, so I say it is mostly positive. And I really hope that the sims5 will have mod support.
The candle system from icemunmun? Tbh more and more of their ideas are running parallel to what moders have already done. Just start paying the modders to add content to the game and we might end up with an enjoyable working product 🤷♀️😅
To be fair, without the sims game there would be no mod so... Also if you ever read the TOU, modders and content creators are technically not even supposed to sell their third party sim content for profit, which a lot of them do but EA allows it for a certain period of time, I think like 3 months before it’s legally an issue. So that could be another reason.
@@Sinovian EA needs to do what the creators of City Skylines do: they employ modders to help them make content packs and sell them. It gives the modders clout, a bit of money, resume padding, and the company gets most of the money plus love from the player community. It's dumb not to follow that business model. That model is one of the reasons Paradox was able to kill SimCity. 1/16/21, 2:59p
I have always found your guides super helpful. I have found out more about the Sims secret treasures and Mods form you than any other person. To me you are the Godfather of Guides. Thank you for all your hard work over the years.
A simple thing like the produce stand, love it. I always wanted to have a Sim who's a farmer. Also the Go To School mod. I will for sure try that. MCCC is a must have for literally all players. Like NRAAS in Sims 3. Good stuff. Thanks !
I can't play without many of those mods. I also like ita's "show infos sims" (found on mod the sims) It allows you to see many infos on your sim, and others : occult, where they live, what is their friends, family, coworkers, if they're pregnant, their traits (even hidden traits) their moodlets and buffs and a lot of stuff, for playable sims or NPC. I use this mod all the time ! (yes, i'm a control freak XD)
pardon me i have some questions about mod and i hope you can help.first of all what is custom content?and second when a mod is enable how it will work in game???i mean for example a mod is fight animation so it will just work until the sim ll be in that mood??!!
I wish there's a diving mod where you can let your swim dive underwater in pools or in other swimmable areas (like oceans and so on) and even control them while they're diving and have some interactions with other sims such as maybe an underwater kiss or a holding breath contest.
This is a great list, and I use most of these. Took me hours to find and compile on my own. I’m glad it will be easier for people to find them all now. I also like the Cult mod and Royalty mod.
Kawaiistacie Explorer Mod is AWESOME! Also, MCC Autonomy Scan is great if you don't want your Sims to wash dishes in the bathroom. Click on the sink, and de-select the "wash dishes" action. These are all great mods. I have an extensive mod folder. Although I may complain when there's an update, these mods made my game playable. Thanks Carl!
@Artoria Pendragon I have a love/hate relationship with the pancakes chemistry system. It can be a little rough introducing the mod into an already existing relationship. A couple that were crazy about one another, now have okay or bad chemistry. I know you can change the preferences but it's an ordeal, lol. If there was some way for the mod to recognise an already created/married couple and keep them compatible it would certainly make the mod much more user friendly. Just my thoughts...
RIP Scumbumbo, Sims would never have gotten where it is today without you. You paved the way for many of us in the modding community as a whole. You will not be forgotten.
So Snowy Escape is taking the Slice of Life mod with its 16 personalities? Didn't know about Scumbumbo's passing. He has some great mods. Also shoutout to LittleMsSam with the wonderful mod fixes to everything.
there is a mod called realistic reactions, its actually really good! for example, when a child's parents are arguing in front of them, the child will have a mood that is saying they aren't happy about the argument.
VIDEO SUGGESTION: Hi Carl, what about doing a video on the various walkable paths in the different worlds? While playing in Brindleton Bay during Winter, I was amazed at the awesome walkable paths! Thru tunnels, woodsy areas private viewing areas/beaches with amazing views. Unlike some areas where you walk to the end of the block and are forced to turn around. And as a personal wish for the game, would be great if the SIMS could remember things, like remember names, remember how you partied the night before together, just be more familiar vs. having amnesia. :-P
Hey Carl, I really appreciate you putting a list of these together so we can get a visual representation of what each mod does. Thanks for sharing **It would also be really cool if you made a follow up video on how to fix your mods folder/better ways to find which mods are causing script errors/and how to find which mods are conflicting with each other Cuz you know how us modders be......
Try a 50/50 approach. It's not quick, but it might be one of the quicker ways. Take out half your mods, load the game, and see if the error happens. If it doesn't, it's one of the mods you took out. If it does, it's one of the ones left. You keep cutting by half and reloading until you find it.
once again a freaking top notch video sharing info I didn't know I needed and now cannot live without. A few I've used before but man a lot of these I just have to try out.
I know this vid is a year old but there are always new things to learn from you and I'll be damned if you don't always make me laugh. Thank you for your existence.
Have I told you how awesome you are as a creator ? I have a bunch of mods, but it’s like I never could find a video for a summary of each. Currently watching this as I play through them on sims ❤️
A great video! Thank you! I use or have tried several you mentioned. My mod musts are: MC Command Center; UI Cheats; Faster eating; and “no intro”. Another must is LittleMsSam’s Quick Shower/Bath! She puts out so many great mods that I use.
I have a great mod that blends in the animations from moods to the walking animation of the sims, it looks amazing in the game, it gives this smooth actually natural feeling when you're playing.
For anyone who's interested, Turbodriver just today (?) released a SFW version of some of the Wicked Whims features (not the streamer version, but a whole new mod for people who don't use WW), if you ever make a sequel to this video (which would be cool, since as of now there's basically no point to even installing TS4 if you're not going to use mods, RIP console players) I don't use WW but it looks like so far some features aren't in the SFW version like shaving, but the attraction, personality enhancement, and menstrual cycle systems are. And improved reputation seems to be coming up, I don't know if that's already in WW or not.
As usual, pure GOLD in this video. Your videos are a reference for me and your reviews ultimately determine if I’ll buy a pack or download a mod. I love that you give your honest opinion and you’re very clear. Standing ovation, this video will help me reinvigorate my gameplay experience and it help me learn a bunch of stuff as well. Great job!
Thank you, Carl! I've been on a mod downloading spree lately and it has so improved my Sims 4 gameplay, but I'm always wanting more. You are an absolute legend!
so... hot potato? baked potato? mine is hitting only 20fps on its own cuz the game is somehow overheating itself no matter what mod is installed. That's exciting.
@@CarlsSimGuides I have recently transitioned from hot potato to fully baked potato.Trying every trick in the book rn... saving up for an upgrade but it's gonna be a while... love your vids!
I have a mod that wasn't on the list that I love. Jamjar's Omegaverse mod. I know not everyone likes omegaverse, but for those of us who do, it's the absolute best one out there, and it offers a lot of fun options for gameplay. Also, thank you so much for making this list, I super appreciate it. I didn't know about at least half of these and I'm now going to go add to my mod list!!
Thanks for including my Sorcerer mod! I appreciate it. Did another update recently to add even more to it with a "Reality Arts" skill (more of a "neutral" focus).
You're a treasure to our community - both helpful, and entertaining to watch. I've been playing a lot with SoL - have never heard of Basementals so I'm going to install that now... pray for me HAHA
the one mod that i also always install is the random traits and aspirations by graycurse. It takes away the control over the traits and aspirations and gives them a random one when they age up !
I just want one thing.. and that's a Tool which we download and check updates of our mods and cc's.. searching a mods and cc's.. not going arround in 1029019201 sites for them.. everything in one place.. If modders and creators unite and someone create a software which will help everyone... Also that tool can scan for mods/cc which cant' work together, you can scan for duplicates etc... to work on that principle.. no need visual of that items, is enough to be name lists.. mark several items to delete to.. do this and that etc..
I've tried soo many times to play without mods so that my laptop doesn't explode... but I just can't! 👩💻🔥 Sooo thankful for all of the incredibly talented Modders out there carrying this whole game!! 🙏
another really big mod is SNB (sims national bank) allows individual sims in a household to have their own bank accounts, you can also pay the bills (has detailed expenses) and send money to other sims using it. highly recommend
Thanks Carl! Alot of these have been thoughts in the back of my head. Like "what if theres a mod for this?" And never knew what to search. So thank you!
miramira made me pause this video for over an hour going through all of their content & their linked content to related creators, because OMG so gorgeous. I was SO happy to see how inclusive these creators have become over the years. It made me feel like I was back on IMVU
21:02 kawaiistacie has a mod called the "Explore Mod" (I think that's the name lol) that's kinda like this that lets you go into rabbit holes with other sims to build relationships, except it also has sims asking you on the phone to go places, skill building places, gambling, shopping, dates, and just a TON of other stuff, it's one of my favs and I 100% recommend
This is the best thing I've stumbled across in months! Love the long list and over half I've never hear of before. Thank you so much for taking time to make this.
Lmao half of these are just re adding features that were in ts3. I have a genuine question, why are you guys still playing ts4 instead of 3 if you are just trying to remake ts3? Is it just the performance issues with ts3 that keeps ppl away?
@@atrapdr6251 same tbh. Maxis is one of the worst too. My dad is actually a dev for some of the sports games they make and hes always surprised when i tell him about the drama happening with ts4. But EA is a very greedy company as a whole no doubt lol. They treat him pretty well tho at least as an employee. But i dont think the same goes for everyone.
Thank you so much! I will try a bunch of these to make my legacy challenge a little more realistic. Appreciate all your work. I would be lost without your guides.
