Same. Holy crap. Im having my sims grow flowers and arrange them for my castaway off grid game save. Those poor sims are always hurting for money. Ive been having one sim vacation to the jungle and dig everything they find
Yes clubs can be the best hack, make a club where cooking, cleaning and gardening are the activities and invite everyone to your house and let them do all your work whilst you build skills 😂 just make sure you harvest before they come over bc they will pocket your harvestables.
Clubs are AMAZING. If you stack up the club perks right your sims will FLY through skill levels. I had a sim go from Charisma level 2 to Charisma level 9 in a single club gathering.
ZombZombKatie My current family has 3 dogs (had to stop jogging in Brindleton Bay because I’d end up adopting a stray) and none have done the upgrade parts. Does it have to do with their traits? One dog and my cat are hunters, they bring fossils, pet toys, kid toys, and metals.
This is actually a weird thing I accidentally found out. If you're in the scientist career from get to work and create a "satellite dish" using the Invention Constructor, you can place the satellite dish on your home lot and a new channel will be available on your TV. I can't remember exactly what the channel was called, but it was an alien channel. It doesn't add much, but it's a nice detail in my opinion.
I load my toddlers with harvestables so I don't have to "feed" them. When they are hungry, they eat fresh fruits and vegetables. In fact, I keep my sims loaded up with fresh produce so that I don't have to have them cook and eat meals (which is time-consuming) so they can get on with other activities.
Ooo sameeee, I do exactly the same, can't believe others do it too😁, almost feels like cheating, it's so easy compared to the classical way of feeding them.
I ONLY discovered this thanks to the magic realm expansion! I had a bunch of pots and was using the magic to garden and accidentally clicked off the side and bam a dragon fruit plant on the grass!
Thanks for the tips Carl. They're very useful) Toddler care advice: Try using high chair to restore toddler's energy need. It's more effective than a bed or tent. Toddlers also eat faster in a high chair. After the toddler finishes the meal just press 'Nap' interaction several times and you'll see how fast energy need will replenish :)
I stopped using the high chair because my Sims take too long to take the toddlers out of it so they start crying and that's just sad :( I just drag plates of food to their room, honestly.
@@RosheenQuynh yeah, that's a big disadvantage. Also interactions like "stuck in here!" and "let me out" are hard to cancel ,sim just keeps trying to let toddler out and often ignores the cancellation which is weird.
I have a crazy ghost teen sim who died of drug overdose and now goes around towns killing ugly sims and collecting urns/gravestones for her huge graveyard. Her best friend is a vampire who sometimes tags along to suck blood of ugly townies before slaughtering them
When playing challenges with Townies I always edit them in CAS with full edit mode on 🤣 I keep their race and 90% of the time their name but adjust their fitness, make their eyes bigger with lashes and make their features more proportionate
donelia white recently all my recreated townies have randomly changed into the UGLIEST clothes. Even the sims I play with are changing outfits after showering in WEIRD ways. For example, I deleted the Pancakes, downloaded the updated family with Iggy, changed their clothes in CAS, moved them in and then after showering they change into the outfits of the original Pancake family. Then if I play another family they rock up in completely random clothes, I’m talking long socks, sunnies, shorts, knitted jacket, sandals, earrings, cap etc.
@@claireburke4319 I kind of miss the firefighting career we had in Sims 3. I wonder if my new computer can handle Sims 3 if I only use one or two of the expansions lol
@@iremhatipoglu9536 They are better games but I still prefer 4. Gotta keep up with the times and I can't go back to those graphics. That being said I don't even play with four seasons cause the snow animation makes me cringe. Lmao
@@iremhatipoglu9536 I agree. I just can't go back to them unfortunately. But hey that's why there's plenty of games. There's at least one for everyone! In our case let's just hope they release an awesome one.
This was amazing. I bought the sims for my daughter. I wanted to learn how to play the game so I could teach her....needles to say I play it more then she does and we have almost every pack hehe. This guide is probably the best one I've seen for new/semi new players. I learned alot from it personally. Great work and thank you.
I get that you want to teach her and the idea behind it is really sweet. Now I do think it might be better for her to figure it out herself. She will find her way and this way she can feel more proud and independent of herself which I think is very important in personal development.
I've been still doing the moodlet that websites recommend because I thought it just moved to the backend (insider tip). The fact that moods do nothing is news to me!
Once a sim makes a meal, they tend to head to watch tv out of habit. So i take advantage and make them watch the cooking channel. So easy to get cooking up!
LOL same except, for me L is "Levels" Y is "Yourself (traits/age) and R is "Relationships". Idk what O is, I think my brain just remembers it because it's the oddest one and stands out.
Great video again Carl , I do not play with mods or cheats but i have found several short cuts that are very usefull, my favoraite 2 are, '1' - If you need to make friends for any aspiration level.. take a photo of or with somone and within 4 trys you will be good friends :) '2' - Do as many of your sims wishes as fast as possible and save those reward points up till you have 3000 buy the 'Connections' reward , it will start all careers at level 4 - sit at the computer and go down the list joining and leaving all the careers but the one you want 'save that till last to join :) ' you will be rolling in cash as you get a chash payout on leaving each career, plus! when all done go into your family Inventory for all the unlocked goodies WIN! :D BTW it only takes a copule of days to get the 3000 reward points to spend especialy if you open the calendar and create a couple of holidays and completing the holiday tasks gives a nice points payout too :)
To make friends fast (almost to a level of cheating) is to go to your phone and click “take picture with...” and your meter will essentially go up till friends. I think I saw this in one of your comments and I’ve been using it ever since bc spamming interaction can be so tedious
Somehow, I literally just figured this out: you can store harvestable in the fridge. So if there is an ingredients list, it will count to have the harvestables in your inventory OR stored. You can put fish in there too.
Thanks, I didn’t know there was this job opportunity for the mixology career Conveniently my sim is stuck at lvl 9 in the job because career progress is going super slow 🤣🙄
I think I got it after a few tries. I just saved where I was about an hour from work and reloaded until I had it. It's cheesy but so is its level 9 requirement.
Growing and selling lilies gives you an incredible profit. After they are fully grown, you can harvest 10 flowers per day and sell them for $36 each (at normal quality). A few plants in your garden really boosts your income. They are very common in Willow Creek and you are able to harvest the wild plants after only 24hrs. They also make excellent beginning fertilizer until you unlock Growfruit.
I haven’t played Sims since Sims 2. When I heard sims 4 was free, I downloaded it along with some add-ons and expansions. Your videos have been so helpful. There is SO MUCH in this game and it has overwhelmed me. Thank you for making learning about it stress free.
If your game is too laggy, live underground. I had a sim live in a small house that went down multiple sub-levels and I couldn't believe how smooth things ran when the background didn't need to be rendered. I also like putting my rocket ships two levels underground with tall walls, then it can seemingly come up from a bunker.
@@cherie7329 because I make sure he left clara in every saves in my game😂😂 clara ended up married don lothario in one of my save lol she must've been desperately lonely
I know this is old, but! 14:30 there's an other way to "back up" your game incase something happened to your computer. You just upload your house and sim/family to the online gallery. When you upload sims it saves all the skill level and achievement progression in the game! So essentially you can pick up from where you left off just by uploading your sims and their homes to the gallery
Good morning Carl. While playing I found a random Gnome... bug? That gives you free seed packs. There is no cheat to use this but you need Seasons for the holidays. During a holiday with gnomes go and please a gnome so they get a halo. Then go into Build/buy and put that gnome in your household inventory, wait until the holiday is over and the other gnomes are gone. Now go back and get that household gnome with the halo and put it out on your lawn with open space. Every day now the gnome will drop a few seed packets. If left down they start to make a spiral pattern. I just pick them up and use them as I need them (free produce, flowers or just sell the packets as is). I am not sure if you can have more then 1 of these gnomes on you property but I know ever family can have thier own. The gnomes are also perminant, they do not leave the next holiday and you can move with them.
Also, if you have appeased your Gnomes on harvestfest, while they have the little halo, and you leave your lot during the holiday and come back, the gnomes (all 3 of mine) will continue to produce seed packets until you sell the gnome.
Little tips: when children are completing the creative aspiration try to get an adult to “encourage” them on the craft table, always do the social aspiration last so you can purchase “incredibly friendly” from rewards, the fastest way to boost toddler skills: look at books for imagination, hug the bear for social (also fills fun and attention), and use the slide for movement (run around with clothes off to boost energy first).
There's a general pattern you touched on but didn't explicitly state: some crafting skills have a type of item for some of the emotions, which you can only make while in that emotion and can then use to cause that emotion again later. For example with painting you can make a sad painting while sad, angry painting while angry, flirty painting while flirty, ect. For all the emotions except inspired (which just boosts painting skill) and tense (can't paint while tesne). Viewing these paintings, or having them around with the motional aura on, will give a moodlet for that emotion. Mathematical Diagrams are just the name of the focused paining. For cooking there are silly gummy bear pancakes for playful, a "flaming spaghetti" I forget the exact name of for angry, high protein plate for energised. I think there's something for flirty too but I don't remember seeing anything for sad, angry tense, or confident. I haven't explored flower arranging and mixology enough to know about those.
You could craft emotional drinks. When you get LV 10 at mixology you unlock the possibility of crafting the emotional potions you could buy in reward store
This is the first video I've seen by you but I've been using your online guides for years! You are the best and thank you so much for sharing all that you've learned!! 💕
I’ve learned that one of the best ways to bring down a negative mood like tense or sad petting dogs or cats bring it down faster also when your teen is in a bad mood have them right in the journal I think it comes with Parenthood and that helps them get rid of the mood swing faster.
The first time I realized my sim was getting fat, she was a game streamer that lived in one of the apartments. She would eat and stream constantly, I got the potion to where she didn’t need sleep so it was money aaaallllllday.. I noticed one day she went to scoop the kitties poops and I noticed she was a big rounder. Realizing yep she gained weight so I made her exercise and got her back to her normal fit self ^-^ I thought this was super immersive 🖤
i noticed it when i was doing a mob boss life and he got triplets and after he had gotten all the way up in career and i moved them to a mansion i was like- now hold on a second he was a beef cake
Ryan Watt did you choose left handed, or did she just happen that way? Every sim I have is right handed, and it looks so wrong, I hate it. I need left handed sims!
I also saw by a Sims 4 only channel that the girl didn't know if you only right-click on their image only the game camera will move to that sim, whereas if you left-click you will switch to that sim. You can also hit the enter key to bring your camera back to your current sim
Thanks for the bit about dropping a house from the gallery. I just built up all of Newcrest from the gallery. I usually go in the house afterwards and delete like 90% of the clutter to make the house less a display peice and better for sims to actually be played in it. What's aesthetic isn't always the best playable layout, but I appreciate builders cause it means I don't have to build up everything from scratch. I almost feel bad I delete most of those aesthetic final touches they proably spent ages on.
Great video Carl :) I used to play on PS4 and just got a gaming laptop. After re-purchasing all the packs I’m having to learn how the PC controls work. I appreciate that you made a list of hot keys!
As a melt master, when you summon a grilled cheese, you can keep your sim from eating it right away, when they set it down, you can garnish it, and change it to excellent quality, then get the bonus for eating a quality meal. Provided you have enough skill in cooking to do so.
I just wanna know how everyone moves their camera around to freely. I can only go up/down side to side and rotating is annoying because it rotates per 90°
i guess you can try clicking the tab key on your keyboard to enter cinematic mode. you’ll be able to move the camera quite freely as you wish and even see through your sim’s bedsheets when they’re woohooing lmao 🤣
I didn’t know you could click on the sim portrait to help with job performance. You’re videos are awesome! I’ve learned so much from all of them! Can’t wait for the next!
I just started playing Sims 4 about 10 days ago and this was one of the first videos I watched. It was even better to go back and re-watch it after I've spent some significant time in the game. I've watched a lot of your videos but this one is definitely 5 stars for new players.
I know people love flower arranging to make money, but I still think Archaeology is the best money maker in the game. One temple run can net you between 10-30K (even more if the fishing area in the jungle gets unlocked), and once you get max level in the skill you make a ton for authenticating the artifacts that get sent to you in the mail.
Some interesting stuff in here! I hadn't really realized they'd gone ahead and removed "ideal moods" from careers -- wonder why they did that? (And I swear the Get To Work careers still have that. . .at least, I seem to recall Wheatley Notamoron needing to be Focused to get the most out of being a doctor.) I hadn't know the harvestables had different mood buffs for different levels of quality either. . .then again, my Sims don't tend to eat their own produce much. Always nice to have something new to look for in my game~
Lot traits are great for eco lifestyle for living a more green life if you have eco lifestyle or great for seasons for making gardening plants easier. Dont forget that some lot traits make bills less or even using a lot trait to get better paintings or making skill levels level up easier.
Did they say why they removed ideal moods from careers? I'm so in the habit of picking careers based on mood traits (or picking traits based on the career I want to use), that not working any more has thrown me off a bit.
Clubs create a HUGE boosts to skills. I have a long running club that's been through 8+ generations that has basically all of the skill boosts as well as a +3 happy moodlet. If a sim leaves for work while the club is going, they'll keep the moodlet through the whole work day. Another great way to get the moods is if you have Jungle Adventure and get the tree of emotions. I have perfect level of all of those so it gives the super-moodlet of whatever emotion PLUS the +3 happy perfect harvestable moodlet.
I gave up on multitasking pretty fast, because it seems to prefer one task (like talking to other sims) over another (like painting). Anything involving talking to sims as part of the multitask also seems to heavily weigh in favor of talking. It won't actually do both at once like you could in real life, it'll have your sim talk for 20 seconds, then paint for 10, then talk for 20, then paint for 10, etc. If you need to paint and also get some social meter filled, you're way further ahead to make two phone calls to a friend and then paint. The one thing that works okay is eating meals while watching the cooking channel (or any other TV channel that gives a skill boost by watching it) but that's less relevant now that sims actually eat their meals fast; it was more useful when they were gonna take ages to eat in the first place. Edit: I would say listening to music and kitting don't really count as multitasking, but if they do, that actually works properly. That sort of combination is less a multitask and more an added buff (whatever the music station gives you) while you are doing another thing that allows you to listen to music at the same time.
Great video! It seems like there is always more to learn about this game! Loved your Sim names Julia Childless and Black Mail as well as your quip about muting phones replicating real life😂 Question about the fertilizer: does that mean the freshness of the fish isn’t a factor anymore, only simoleon value? Thank you as always-your content here and at your sites is so organized and helpful! I appreciate all the time and effort it must take to do and maintain everything!
Great Work! I’ve always wanted to be a Sims RU-vidr too! I just never know where to start, and my family is poor AF and we can’t afford good equipment. Well, it’s better than starving.
We get a good bit of views on the guide, but this is an entirely different gig. I kinda thought it'd be easy to move over, but it's taken a lot of work. I can say that it's more about learning the ropes but less aggravating with good equipment. The main thing that needs to be OK is the mic. You can render video on a potato but a bad mic is immediately noticeable.
Carl's Sim Guides thank you! Do you have a guide to mics? I don't need to put my face on screen, but a good voiceover is critical, and I'm a noob to this.
I’m new to Sims and this video is so helpful. Evidently there is a lot I don’t know. You explain it very well and I will be watching many more of your videos to improve my Sims game play.
Great vid as usual Carl! I wanted to ask, what are the names of the chill background songs you use? One starts around 5:30 and the other around 8:50. And I want to thank you for your wonderful work - I sadly didn't grow up playing sims 1 or 2 like many people, but I picked up sims 3 on a whim when Steam had it on sale for $5 a few years back. Ever since then, your guides have been my go to source of info for sims 3, and now 4. You've helped me get so much enjoyment out of these games. Keep up the amazing work!
Sorry, I missed your comment. The 5:30 one is Chillhop Jazz by Mattjis Muller and 8:50 is Summer Leaves by the same person. I purchased licenses for these two from Premiumbeat.com.
In the base game if your high enough in entertainer job, your sim can write music from a any instrument and publish it and your sim will receive royalties.
Gourmet cooking can also be unlocked by reading a book about gourmet cooking. I had a teenager with level three gourmet cooking and zero regular cooking recently. I think it can also be unlocked by a sim with high gourmet cooking skill talking about it a lot.
2 years later and you have more control of your Sims Woohoo interests as well as you have the chance of getting a neighborhood story where someone died by fire while making a bowl of cereal. Seriously, I’ve had a few townies die from cereal fires.
I hate calories in Sims 4. Reminds me too much of my health. After playing for a couple of sim days, my sims get pudgy. Ugh... But yeah, great feature LOL. Me and my sim should go for a diet. or just buy an Instant Lean potion from Rewards. :D :D
Turquoise Cheetah exactly it’s just too much control, to where it ruins the gameplay because we have to force a personality on our sims. and traits don’t do much to their lifestyle, except a temporary moodlet every now and then
@Turquoise Cheetah i think there should be similar system to the sims 2, where ur sims chose their aspirations and hobbies and u didn't really have a choice 😂 It was always a fun surprise
Woah! I never knew the one where you can click on the icon next to the need and your sim will auto do something to fix it!!! Will be very useful! Although I usually keep cheats on and disable need decay anyway but sometimes if I want to play normally it will be so helpful xD
Cool videos! I bought the Sims 4 a few weeks ago because lockdown. Last sims I played was.... The Sims. In the Y2K! Aaahh... reenacting death scenarios for my most hated college professors, those were the days... They don't die as easily now. The Sims. I don't know about professor deaths... I really like Sims 4 and can't compare with Sims 3. I think my gameplay-tip is more of a personal issue: when I decide a family Sim is going on a digging, frogging and fishing trip, I prefer to stay out of the house like 3 days in a row. When hygiene and energy are really low, I take the Sim to the Gym, have him shower and take a nap on each couch - queued with eating some harvestables in-between. I know that the nap isn't as effective as a sound night of sleep in the bed, but hey, I'm not in a big rush, and I just know that if I take him home, I'll get sidetracked because the other Sims seem to not be able to take care of themselves lol I've wondered if there's a hobo achievement or of the family calls the police when you've been away so long, but so far, zilch.
I just had a thought: I can get a mistress/lover for my scavenging sim. That way, I can probably sleep at her/his house for a few hours and I won't be sidetracked, because I can't control the other people in the household. Ha!
I usually use the cowplant to "store" emotions. I usually have a cowplant in a park and when I have a sim feeling a certain emotion, I'll have the cowplant eat the sim so their emotion will be milked by that sim for future use. If there's a time I need to have my sim have a certain emotion (like inspired or energized), I'll have that sim drink that emotion to have that emotional buff for 8 hours. Also, the cowplant is great for getting rid of the negative emotions, such as anger or sadness. Just feed the sim to the cowplant and the emotion is gone (though, they'll have the uncomfortable "Drained" moodlet for 2 days, that is easy to overcome with nearly any positive emotion). Just don't let the sim eat the cake while drained, or that sim will be gone.
Yeah, a lot of townies are either ugly or poorly dressed. There ARE cheats that let you edit them, but you can create your own townies by moving sims into a house, and then evicting them. Carl: Sims are attracted to all other sims. There are no preferences. Me: Not exactly. They're attracted to whoever you tell them to.
You don't need cheats to edit townies. You can simply go to the household library and click on 'Not in world' There you can find all the randomly generated sims and edit them, delete them, move them into your wolrd...
@@skelmirsdottir I know, but cheats save you the time of looking for them in the list (by editing them right when you see them). On top of that, without cheats, you can only edit their clothes, hair, and accessories. You can't change their age, face, skin color, or traits. After all, we ARE talking about ugly townies.
@@drjawesome8278 yes you can? You can edit everything, even add new sims to their households or delete existing sims. You can do that for premade families in houses as well.
@@skelmirsdottir I know you can add or remove sims from the household, but I don't where you're getting the ability to edit everything about pre-existing sims. Do you have some kind of mod I don't know about? Perhaps one you forgot you had? Or have you absentmindedly made a habit out of entering the CAS cheat every time you play the game? "cas.fulleditmode on"?
You can use Earphones for like, infinite fun for your sim. It works while your sim are working and with any action (including programming and that skill leveling actions). Your sim only take it off automatically when he goes to sleep.
I don't know what is the cause, and what's the effect, but a good portion of them plain don't work anymore. I don't know if they disabled them because they are buggy or if they are buggy because they aren't worked on anymore though.
The only tip thats missing is the scale item size in build mode. Because making an outdoor movie theater at a park is awesome for NYE events as a 5 star celebrity 😏
