I was in love with the looks of this until I snapped back to reality at the end with the RHC allez sprint in the background. still cant get over that damn colorway for some reason 😅
Namaste 🙏 gc ,that is gud bike 👌,when is comparison video come about this and foil rc20? And can you give your views about merida reacto 5000 bike if possible????
I think the only problem with this bike, is the recommended servicing interval time. Seriously, 500km interval servicing time because the seatpost needs to be checked? That’s crazy. Other that that, it’s a sick bike. Would have sprang for one if it wasn’t for that caveat.
I’m in the bike industry like you and it is refreshing to watch a guy who spoke with is experience in mind… not like all the internet/forum specialist out there! Thumbs up to you!!
Thank you very much for this, I feel like the modern bikes get such hate from the “internet crowd” but for the people just getting into this sport, this is all new knowledge to them
Schwalbe is a german company founded by Ralf Bohle in the 70ies. He started with importing tires from Korea to Germany, those back then were named after the bird Swallow which symbolises luck in Korea apart from representing nature, being free and speed, so he just translated it to german: Schwalbe. I know native english speakers hate the Sch sounds, like in Porsche too :)
That's a beautiful color. A really great price too. Someone should tell TREK,CANNONDALE,SPECIALIZED,etc,. to learn something from Scott. I just ordered the Foil RC 10.
My 2011 CAAD 10 weighs 16 lbs. My 2021 BMC SLR01 weighs 17 lbs. The BMC is faster, climbs better, descends better, brakes better, shifts better, sucks when it runs out of batteries 😂.
Bro, what a banger of a bike. Down the line, you upgrade those wheels for a deep dish like a 45 or 50mm wheel you are in flying colors. I recently got a recent Di2 aero bike, and it makes such a difference in the pacing I'm doing and how consistent I am with my speed as of rn. I honestly think weight is in debate for a lot of people, and I'm also kinda sick of making comparisons because it's always a vicious cycle for both sides of the arguement. But my stance is, is HOW you use the carbon and where it's placed, but there needs logic behind it too. I think people need to realize that companies are thinking differently of how they're using aerodynamics for bikes now, so it'll naturally end up having more material. Great video btw, GC!!!
Installing a front aero wheel is highly dangerous against riding in windy conditions like a highway or coastline or bridge crossing. More so than a rear disc wheel as it takes tremendous wind force to budge a rear wheel.
It's bang for the buck, 12spd electronic and you can save a full lb. by upgrading wheels, cassette, and crankset later on. I got 2021 Merida Reacto 6000 for sub $3k 11 spd and did just that and got it down to 17lbs. also has a seatpost cutout for absorbing vibrations runs up to 32c tires. The downside is no authorized US dealer...
I can understand your frustration about people commenting on modern bike weights and I also think it's pretty pointless as well. The 105 di2 braking system doesn't have servo wave, Ultegra and Dura Ace have it. That's the first difference. Secondly you can't attach satellite shifters to the 105 shifter's, you can with Ultegra and Dura Ace. Thirdly the 105 shifters don't have the function buttons on the top of the shifters like the Ultegra and Dura Ace shifter's.
Schwalbe is a German company shwal-ba is the pronunciation! I think the $5k price is basically the pre-covid $3k range & explains the weight along with the aero/low end groupset.
I'm fat af an aero bike is just added speed migth that be on a hill or on a flat, a 2 kg difference ain't gonna do nothing when i'm 94kg myself. Aero is king, but i love the look on the lightweight bikes the most like the emonda, scultura, SL7 or my favorite the focus izalco
Great video with a lot of great points, Put this monster next to a Soyboy LW, and see the watt and rpm difference at 42km/h, thats where aero's imo really come into their own at these high speeds and how little watts are needed to maintain those speeds once attained. Can always make an Aero as light as a LW....You cannot however make a LW frame Aero.... Give me an extra kg or two if it means an extra 5-10km/h any day of the week.
5000$ crazy expensive there is no carbon wheels , just 105 , no power meter on this price point ? Yes agree weight is not everything but with pedals and other accesories will be very close to 9kg that same or more then gravel bike .. For half of this price you can build very good bike with better components .....
Oh btw. I wonder if you're interested in reviewing custom handlebars like the coefficient for e.g or any other high quality upgrade parts like carbon wheels. I think that would be an interesting addition to full bikes alone. Great channel so far! It's always good looking forward to your clips frequently. 👍
Pinellas Trail, Felt Broam --- 25 lbs plus add-ons, $1400 ... for some reason the fancy bikes on uphills slow down a LOT around here, ez to pass on hills , hard to stay within 50 yards on the flat ( but quite do-able) . Runner background may be a factor.
You get a 980 gram HMX frame, Scott's top tier carbon. A Madone SL6 gen 7 costs way more and has a 1200 gram frame from their basic OCLV 500. A Merida Reacto at this price point has a 1170 gram CF3 frame. Again, their cheaper, heavier carbon. This bike has a heart of gold, well worth future upgrades. Even the new Madone SLR frame weighs 1050 grams, and the frameset costs more than this Foil RC 30.
That’s one slick bike. So funny I came across this video. I had a 2012 super light Pinarello and traded it in for a modern day aero bike and the aero bike absolutes smoked all the times I ever did on my old lighter bike. I got slaughtered for saying that. You actually need a bit of extra weight to help push through the air. My advice is get an aero bike and make it as light as possible to get the best of both worlds. Best thing you will ever do
Thank you!!! People don’t understand, it is a marginal significant advantage. It’s not just about number of speed. But the amount of energy saved while at those speed that allows you to be faster
great looking bike - for the seat post, it's looks like it would be difficult to mount the Garmin Varia which is the gold standard & go to product for most people wanting a rear light/radar/camera.
My 2014 SuperSix weighs……. Sorry just had to 😂😂😂😂 The only thing I wish is that the aero 105 bikes would come with a more compact cassette. 11-34 is a hill climbers cassette really. But obviously that can be switched out and I believe that’s the only stock 105 Di2 option?! Edit: Should have waited to post until the end of the video where I now know you called out the gearing as well 😊
Most these guys saying their 2009 trek weighs less don't even push enough power or try hard enough to make a 1kg difference matter. They're the cycling world equivalent to 4 banger honda civics
For a bit less than 5000€, you have the cube litening c68x race. It’s considered as an aero bike, it has 50mm Newmen wheels, full shimano ultegra and wheigts 7,5kg. I mean for 200€ i would make my choice quickly but i know it is also a matter of preference for everyone. The scott is absolutely a banger with some bigger wheels
the cude is sick but it is limited to wear it is sold, if it was offered world wide I would show a ton more of cube, I like the bikes alot but for all viewers, I think it is not fair to mention if you can only buy the bike in one are
Looks awesome but an aero bike really needs deeper rims on those wheels even if it's the cheapest version. I guess that would make the price higher than they wanted. The frigging website don't say what the stem and crank lengths are.
what is the weight on those wheels and tyre combo? Would be a good inside, if you put some elite or winspace wheels and show us the weigth on the upgrade.
New Aero frame, 105 Di2, HMX carbon layout for $4,800!!!? I'm sold! my wife has the 2022 Scott Addict 30 in that same color and she loves it! she just saw this video with me and now she wants a Foil lol 😂 great video GC Performance!
I experienced your point about new (aero)bikes first hand. My 2014 Time Scylon with rim brakes weights 6,8kgs. Its an aero frame with an aero bar and deep wheels with 23c tires. Last summer I bought a standard Giant TCR with disc brakes and alloy wheels. Weighting a wopping 8,7 kgs. But when I started riding it I was actually faster on the Giant. The bike is stiffer, had more comfort and handles alot better.
For sure, wow, that's a deal, that bike under five grand. And not to argue but I don't think the bar/stem is chunky in any way. Maybe in comparison to the tippy top of the line components you see and install daily, but it looks mighty modern to me. Thanks for the look-see at this, I like it, not sure, however, it is any lighter and faster than a vintage Sears Free Spirit 10-speed. 😀
I just put a compact Dura Ace 9200 crank on my Cannondale Systemsix. When you're climbing Haleakala or Mt Ventoux it helps (done both on it)! Great looking Scott Foil (save for those alloy wheels).
This versus SystemSix? I love that Cannondale threw everything they had to make the SysSix as FAST AS POSSIBLE, but people say it rides harsh. I don't hear that about the Foil.
Have multiple bikes and weight is never a factor on flat terrain. Speaking of weight my favorite bike is heavy 22lbs with heavy alloy wheels and a non-carbon fork. But it's so comfortable that I don't care if I'm slow on climbs. Not a racer or club rider. Weight don't matter outside of competitive rides
You can buy a more aero rim brake bike for far less. Weight doesn’t make much difference in hills. 3w per kg on a 9%. It makes a difference to how nimble the bike is. A Giant Propel is faster than a Systemsix, which is similar to this, it’s also a kg lighter. Aero figures actually mean very little in a race. Most of the time you are in a Pelaton and there’s no difference. It only matters if you are on the front or in the first few wheels. Far less than is touted. Those bars are also very wide. That makes a big difference in making it slower. They need to be banged in. It would be like riding an MTB for me.
I think you meant to say supersix. Systemsix is one of the top fastest road frames with canyon aeroad coming right after. Felt ar, specialized venge vias, post 2020 cervelo s5 are the top dogs of aero road frames with the lowest drag coefficients without diving into tt bike uci territory. Giant propel and canyon aeroad are almost identical in CDA.
Love the color and I agree with you about the weight vs aero debate (at least for Florida-I would never get one in California though)-disagree about wheels vs handlebars and stem though. Aero handlebars barely make much of a difference so they are more of a luxury item and some people opt for alloy stems over carbon because they're sometimes stronger. However, the fact that they include such thin wheels on a bike this focused on aero is not great. Probably less aero than some of the "lightweight aero" bikes with similar body positioning now. Those wheels are essentially the same as the ones I got on a new Scott which was a third of the price of this just a couple of years ago. Granted the rest of the bike was obviously lower-spec but it was still carbon with 10-speed Tiagra-they could at least go for some basic 50mm carbon rims on this one even if they have to go up to 5500.
I'm here in California and I agree, definitely not an aero bike to ride here. More than 85% of riders I see here all ride climbing bikes and shallow carbon wheels around 35-45mm max. The terrain is a mix of flat, hills and mountain depending your area. Every group and club riders I see ride shallow wheels and 50/50 aero frame but for sure 45mm is the deepest I see here in my local area.
thats not a bad weight for heavier wheels and 105 stuff, could always upgrade later and make it a bit lighter, most important is the weight of the rider and power output, put a v12 engine on there thats lean and it will kill
Beautiful, beautiful bike bro, don’t worry about them comments, people sometimes just like to talk, we love you too man, nice saddle action btw….lol…love your shenanigans brother…lol
Another great vid, keep up the good work. Do you feel the same way about the Addict 30 and it's value for money..? In 1973 Ralf Bohle imported bicycle tires from Korea to Germany for the first time. These were called Swallow. In these days, Germany was the biggest and most important market. For this reason “swallow” was translated into German, i.e. Schwalbe. In Korea the tiny little bird is a traditional sign of good luck. For us it symbolizes that cycling is a wonderful way of moving: fast, light-hearted, with confidence, naturally and free. Swallow tires are in fact still available today. Our partner company HungA distributes them mainly in Asian countries. The Schwalbe brand is, however, a name which is more well-known all over the world.
I know when you order a Factor you have the option to choose the wheel depth, crank arm length, stem length & bar width regardless of the frame size. I’m not sure if Scott offers the same.
@@TheDevilOfSleeping Foil will almost for sure be faster aero-wise. Probably not by much since frame choice doesn't make a huge difference but the way they kept the wheel close to the frame at the back, the thick bb area, and the more aggressive position help it out
Spent about 500 miles on it and so far so good. ru-vid.comUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA Pros:1. Very light2. Solid quality build3. Fast delivery: It arrived 5 weeks earlier than expected.4. Easy assemblyJust a few cons but nothing major:1. Cheap tin tubes and had flat on first day... but not a big deal. I replaced the tubes.2. Seat is a bit uncomfortable but that's pretty much the same situation with most bikes.3. Seat post is a bit long/high for a smaller size 48 bike - had to saw 2 inch off to fit properly. The lowest setting is too high. The post locking system does not seem to hold well (perhaps because I saw 2 inch off).4. wheels are not tubeless compatible (from what I can tell)
I wish all bike bolts were torx. I've rounded a few hex fittings over the years... which wouldn't have happened if they were torx. While we're at it, get rid of all crosshead and flathead screw fittings.
the addict would be a better climbing bike for sure, it is more of there all rounder, so for hills it would be more snappier and lively on the climbs because this has deeper aero cuts it is more harder to get it going on climbs and more suitable for flats
Schwalbe is just the German word for a swallow, the bird. Also, RE: hills - it has to be a fairly significant climb, think Mont Ventoux or Alpe d'Huez, before weight takes precedence over aero. Weight is a nice metric because you can easily measure it, but why do people think the pros use modern aero bikes on all the mountain stages of the Tour?
I drop guys on these bikes all the time. Don't buy aero guys, but a Bafang BBSHD mid drive motor and 52V battery and mount it on an aluminum road bike with less aggressive riding position. Anybody on one of these aero bikes has nothing over 30 mph. And...wait for it....a 1700 watt bike with no rider...add your watts as well...is cheaper than this bike without a motor. Of course you have to have my expertise to build it. Biggest reason to own/build a high power ebike even if you come from the competitive world of cycling like I do? You can stay in zone 2 heartrate which has the greatest health benefits. Riding at higher speeds translates to burning more glycogen aka carbs aka sugar and carbs aren't good for you. Zone 2 you are in fat burning which makes you leaner which could make GC a 175 lb rider and not 200 lbs. GC and I are the same height. Playing with you GC. I just don't see why you have to kill yourself to go 30 mph on this Scott when in stark contrast if speaking of technology to make you fast, you don't have to on a powerful e-roadbike that you don't need huge saddle to bar drop and sit on your nuts spoiling the ride with less sta and getting out of the wind which is essential above 25mph without a motor.
My friend’s Tri bike weighs almost 10 kg, yet he is the fastest guy in my local loop. Heck, every time he goes for his bike training for triathlon (solo ride), the rest of us just ride behind him, making a long single-file peloton, to get a higher average speed, LOL. 😛
@@GCPerformance18 Cool thanks mate, i might as well start saving up for the Hyper 45 wheels so hopefully i can bring down the weight a little bit on the rc 30
Hi, a Schwalbe is a swallow in German. These were tires imported to Germany from an asian company called swallow. The owner just translated it... It´s pronounced in the begiinning like shwing and an hard e at the end ;)
What if you make a bike including Scott or cervelo seat tube, cervelo y shape stem connect to ribble ultre dropbar, trek isoflow, Bianchi aero ferings, orbea orca battle cage under downtube, dogma fork😂😂😂
im teling you right now, it is getting this way lol, there is only os much they can do to a bike now they are just taking the good parts form other bike companies and putting there spin on it
@@GCPerformance18 yah haha the only upgrade they will make is when uci make an update in a regulation😂 haha just i was thinking about di2 they are literally waiting for another year or two to release a complete wireless groupset
@@GCPerformance18 the saddle is off. Do I need to turn the black railholders? They are horizontal and when I torque up the bolt the clamp automatically pushes the nose down
lol u straight up negating the potential negative comments 😁. That was quite new to this channel i guess XD. I guess this frame is more for people who use it as a base to upgrade! custom carbon wheels, probably looks better to lower the stems and maybe a few other goodies here and there
@@GCPerformance18 the group set is not the issue, I agree 105 is fantastic. It's the price, under no circumstance is that bike worth $7000 aud and its not value for money.....period!!
