As you were talking about the Spanish Love Deception I remembered that someone I know was reading it recently and I asked her for her thoughts. She said "I wish I hadn't thought, and I hope I never think about it again", thought you might relate to that sentiment

I don’t think a recommendation has ever made me want to read a book as much as your rec for Sorcery of Thorns! Sounds literally perfect so i can’t wait to pick it up
Even in the midst of finishing my master's program and working full-time, I absolutely tore through both of the Six of Crows books this month because you recommended them so highly
OMGG THE SIX OF CROWS DUOLOGY IS SERIOUSLY SO GOOD!! I READ BOTH BOOKS REALLY QUICKLY TOO BECAUSE I REALLY WAS IMMEDIATELY SO INVESTED !!!!! ALSO WISHING YOU THE BEST WITH FINISHING YOUR MASTERS PROGRAM !! ☺️❤️
starless sea was definitely the book that made me happiest this year -- the gorgeous prose, the underground library, the mystery, the cats...tysm hannah for getting me to read it!!!
When you said Yona of the Dawn jumpstarted your reading for the year that was literally me this year. I started reading Attack on Titan for the Anime, then I started reading more manga and then it just snowballed into reading books. Definitely got me out of my 4+ year reading slump.
omg finally someone on youtube put the Spanish love deception on their worst reads, that shit was so atrocious. I literally reconsidered the life choices that led me to the point of reading that book. Aside from misery, it also put me in the biggest reading slump where I was thrown off by reading as a hobby.
I’m so happy that you are reading more and enjoying a lot of books this year. Also pleaaase read “Aristotle and Dante dive into the waters of the world” if you haven’t already. I personally loved this sequel even more than I loved the first book and I think that you will definitely like it too
She said in other video that it was one book she was waiting, so i guess she had readen the book or is in process. Maybe we are going to watch a vlog about it.
Our reading tastes are so different, but I just adore listening to you talk about books! Your videos are so soothing and eloquent. I’m glad you’ve been having a good reading year so far 💕
I used to have a very different taste as well but Hannah's opinions gave me such a different outlook on some books that I didn't consider before and now I can't unsee some problematic aspects in books. Also I found some really interesting books that I wouldn't otherwise read as they were not really my style...
all my rage is sooo good omg. it was the type of book that I just felt honoured to have been able to read, and I grew so attached to the characters. definitely recommend!!
I’ve been in a reading slump this year, and All My Rage saved me. I have never read her fantasy series, An Ember in the Ashes, but now I want to! The way Sabaa writes, the way she made me feel so much?! The characters were so well developed, and the whole story was so well paced. Gosh, I ADORE her now. And even though I’m not Pakistani (I’m Indian), Urdu is very similar to Hindi, and the fact that a language besides English was in the book and that I could read was a whole new experience! I miss the book so much now. 🥹🥹
I, by some weird happenstance, received the notification for this video as I was filling out what may be a potential all-time favorite in the « A Clockwork Reader » reading journal 😊❤️
i just finished sorcery of thorns and IT WAS SO GOOOOD 😭 it definitely resembled the clockwork series but i actually loved the characters more. I HATE THAT ITS A STANDALONE :(
Finally someone who hated Normal People as much as I did! SORCERY OF THORNS MADE ME FEEL LIKE THE WORLD WAS WORTH LIVING and yona and spyxfam are literally my favorite mangas atm so much happiness from them like furuba before
I feel so bad that you have such an amazing reading journal and I can't afford to buy it because i'm almost alway broke 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️ but we're so proud of you Hannah !!
I would've never imagined that u would mention YONA OF THE DAWN in this video, AND BIG YES OMG it has been my favorite manga for whole years, also yess with the picture of dorian gray ✨
started spy family because of the last video and I'm loving it! I've never read manga before but the premise is so up my alley I just had to. And I'm already halfway through the second one so, THANK YOU
One book i read this month that i ABSOLUTELY love is Every Last Word!! I don’t want to give a summary because i feel like i’ll unintentionally spoil it but please look it up. It is so good, my heart was beating so much.
THE WAY I SCREAMED FROM JOY WHEN YOU MENTIONED SPY × FAMILY!!!! I HAVE ADORED THAT MANGA FOR YEARS NOW. I'M SO HAPPY I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO LOVES IT AAAAAHHHH
Best book(s): The Secret History, My Dark Vanessa and The Kite Runner. When you mentioned My Dark Vanessa, I couldn't help but nod along furiously! It was probably one of the hardest books I have ever read, but one of the most important for me. Such wonderful story telling as well. I keep recommending it to my friends.
I was feeling very down cause today has been really tiring and I saw that you uploaded a video on Twitter and it just made me so so soooo happy. Your videos really calm me a lot and I am so excited to just hear you talk about books😍😍 P.S: I legit bought Sorcery Of Thorns the day after I watched your reading vlog on it. I am really liking it so far😍
I also loved „My dark Vanessa“. The writing is so beautiful ❤️ Another favourite of mine this year has been „The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo“. I cried so much at the end 🥺☺️
*Best*: either Brandi Carlile's memoir Broken Horses (audiobook with songs interspersed) or This is How You Lose the Time War. *Worst*: Find Me, the sequel to Call Me By Your Name. Dull. *Most Anticipated*: Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds (boy takes an elevator down to confront his brother's killer, told entirely in verse), the Nick and Charlie novella, and What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat by Aubrey Gordon (cohost of the Maintenance Phase podcast).
Hi, Hannah! I saw that you wanted to read The Ones We Burn by Rebecca Mix and you were describing it so well. So I went to Goodreads and read the blurb. I was even more excited to read. Prior to that, I saw the low star rating, and usually I don’t read a book based off that, but I scrolled down to see a little bit of reviews, and I immediately had to turn my back on the book. But I just wanted to let you know that the book showcases reverse racism. The author wrote the Black siblings of the book to oppress the poor white people. This is white supremacy, all while people also say that there it is a potentially anti-semitic running situation that ties to a stereotypical blood libel. I say this just so that you can be aware in case you’re not. Totally love your video and have added numerous other books to my TBR. I just read Spy x Family vol. 1 & 2. I took a break in between the third volume and the second volume to read An Ember in the Ashes. After years of hearing you talk about it, I bought it. (I don’t know why I didn’t sooner). I’m only 25% through, but I’m loving it❤️
Omg thank you. From Blood and Ash made my skin crawl it was so painful to read. So many people are gushing over this book and it’s awful. I instantly judge when someone says it’s their favorite.
I mean there is an audience for anything, just bc you disliked it and someone else does like it doesn’t make them a lower person than you…… but like when people say ACOTAR is the best book series ever… same I definitely judge them 🤣😂
i’ve had sorcery of thorns on my shelf for a while and your review convinced me to finally pick it up especially after you said it reminds you of a studio ghibli film
Best (that’s a tough one coz I’ve had so many amazing reads) Defy The Night, Worst- The Spanish Love Deception & an anticipated release- Defend the dawn
Just finished watching yona of the dawn since you kept recommending it and my god it is criminal that there’s no season 2. Definitely reading because I need more
I feel like 2020 Hannah - I've only read 11 books so far this year, 5 out of them manga volumes and the longest book I've read was 330 pages, but I hope to read more in the summer. I've been in the mood for short mystery/horror and also short east asian books all year. My favourite reads have been Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie, the novella Diary of a Murderer by Kim Young-ha and the manga Blood on the Tracks. My worst read was Gallant by V.E. Schwab. I don't have an anticipated release that I can think of and there are a lot of books I hope to get to - some more Agatha Christie and Goth by Otsuichi, maybe also If I Had Your Face, My Annihilation and All the Lovers in the Night 💕
I need more of your rants. You're so adorably angry it's funny😂😂 Side note, I'm sure you already know that Chain of Gold just got a SE from Barnes and Noble so....I'd be surprised if you havent pre-ordered yet.
Sorcery of thorns is one of my all time favorites so excited for the novella that is coming out soon that follows Elizabeth and Nathaniel at a dinner party I believe there’s not a lot of info yet 🥰
An updated "Hannah List" of books you were talking about in the beginning sounds so good 😍 I just know that if I read everything on that list, my life would never be the same again
I’ve been binge watching your videos lately and I’m so happy to watch this one in real time! Absolutely love your content, thank you for being the only person I know who reads the same books as me🥺💕
😨 omg I'm early!! Hi Hanna I'm a huge fan, and you made me a manga and anime lover!! Everything you've recommended I've watched and read 😂 I know I'm a bit weird but there so good!!
On your recomendation I read Heartstopper not really expecting much. Boy was I wrong, it's an absolut gem, it made me giddy happy and later on I devoured the series on Netflix, rewatching it right after I finished it and then some favorite parts over again. Thank you!
Great recommendations! Also want to say that I bought your book journal at the beginning of this year and I LOVE it! I have been recording all of the books I’ve read in there and it’s so fun to write my thoughts down!
I agree with the Spanish Love Deception. It was overhyped. Now okay I didlike certain aspects but it didn't need to be 400 pages or more. Like I was really bored and your right there is more good romance out there. When you pulled this book up I said to myself thank you Hannah I thought I was the only one.
Loved this video Hannah ❤️ for me the best book of the year so far was Crooked Kingdom and the worst was Sun Down Motel. I'm so thankful to you for recommending Six of Crows ❤️ seriously enjoyed reading both Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom ❤️
your taste is truly just immaculate! i ended sorcery of thorns last year but admittedly didn’t give it a fair chance, and your enjoyment of it in the last vlog led to me picking it up and now i ADORE THIS STORY!! the atmosphere is just so magical - it really does make you feel like you’ve been swept away. thank you for introducing me to a new fav! yona is also one of my favourite series with one of my most favourite casts ever. my dark vanessa is one of the most thought-provoking books i’ve ever read; definitely one of my favorites. i read it a year ago and think about it/revisit it often. i’ve heard the opposite of what you said about sally rooney; that normal people is the better conversations w friends! i’ve never tried a book by her but conversations w friends sounds much more up my alley so if they really are that similar i’ll definitely take your advice.
It’s so interesting because for me I absolutely loved Normal People, and while I found Conversations with Friends good it did not resonate with me as much as Normal People. For me the Normal People story was that much more interesting as it focuses on the characters school and university life, therefore appeals more to a slightly younger audience (I was 16 when I read it) but Conversations with Friends deals with having an affair, and the complexities of adult relationships and getting older (even though the main character is still in university) and therefore is more meaningful and impactful to a slightly older readership
I highly HIGHLY RECOMMEND you to read JADE FIRE GOLD by JUNE CL TAN It’s her debut novel and the aspects of storytelling are absolutely engaging and strong in this one. She’s an expert with her choice of words that I’m planning to read more books from her in the future. Plus, a true slow burn romance that I think you’ll definitely enjoy a whole lot! 100 percent the feels
Glad to see you recommend Ava Reid. I want read the Wolf and the Woodsman because I really like the idea, but was worried about its low rating on Goodreads.
So we have the opposite taste in books lol completely. The starless sea 🌊 just wasn’t it for me at all BUT I love your channel and hearing about why you enjoy your reads. ✨🧞
Great Video! Best Book - Confessions of a Curious Bookseller by Elisabeth Green Worst Book - The City We Became by N. K. Jemisin Most Anticipated Book - It was Chain of Thorns by Cassandra Clare until they changed the release date to next year. Now it's A Secret Princess by Margaret Stohl & Melissa de la Cruz and it comes out June 28th.
YES! Sorcery of Thorns really deserves that praise. Also, as you said, as i was reading it i re read back pages and so on, and i am more than half way into this book and i just STOPPED reading it because i don t want all of that to end I just can t :)) So i started reading A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab just to not put my hands on SoT I also related so much to Elisabeth as you said, and maybe that s way i loved it so much, but the writing style as well - easy to read and love
Worst Book: Paradise Lost by Julia Vellucci *Rant on why it was awful pending* Here was my good read review. The book was just a big old cringe. "I am not sure where to begin with this book. This was one where I wanted to like it but it fell flat for me. This writer is young with lots of potential who could make such an amazing book. There were themes and concepts that I liked but could not get past the flaws. In the end though, I believe in honest reviewing. I started it but DNF. I also respect that the author is relatively new and know that as writers we are constantly growing but this book is an oof from me. There are some concepts that seem like interesting and fun elements but there is also "idea whiplash" with others that are very distracting. Just some inconsistencies detail level wise. We go from a woman just barging info an apartment being like (THIS IS MY PARAPHRASED VERSION btws) 'yo the man you are sleeping with, yeah he is my husband. Yeah I know about you. Also, we don't get intimate so he gets it from elsewhere. I wanted a kid though so I inserted a turkey baster up my baby shoot. Now that I am pregnant, he is moving back in with me....' what the heck? I truly think the author wanted this to be a funny or sad scene but in the end it was just a cringe. But then there is a scene not too far after where she falls through a portal and is in paradise, but then does not hardly describe paradise... What? The world building was problematic. It goes from over descriptive about the mundane to not descriptive enough where it counts. It is also sad because the world seems pretty straight forward of a world. Exposition was also problematic because you would just get these info dumps of excessive information that could have been worked into the story better. Character will start with small talk (like that polite stuff that you do when you don't know the person) then the next time they speak, they will discuss their whole life story. It is just not realistic and comes off clunky. The conversations were not dynamic. They honestly seemed almost robotic and emotional less. Pacing was another area of growth for the writer. The first chapter went from the main character at age 8 to 15 to 2 to 22 years old. It felt really clunky and there was no separation between the very different times. Just boom, I am 15, boom 22. I just feel like it could have been done differently to get the same impact on the memories. " Best Book: A Deal With the Elf King. It ended a bit quick but I loved everything else about it
I found your channel this year after recently getting back into reading. After working full time and being a more than full time student, I'm proud of myself for prioritizing reading for pleasure. I've read 5 books this year, including the Six of Crows duology which is how I found you. Here's to the latter half of the year!
-You got me hooked on the Infernal Devices series so those are hands down my favorites of the year so far. -My least favorite was I Need You to Love Me by Genicious (toxic masculinity with relationship red flags) -I am most looking forward to All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers (Crime Junkie's host/her debut novel)
I love getting recommendations from you!!! I loved the Starless Sea and Shadow and Bone trilogy and I immediately requested Sorcery of Thorns from the library and can't wait to read it
I just finished an enchantment of ravens and i. Am. Obsessed. I have never annotated more in my life. It made me seen as an art student and was te perfect fantasy duting finals. I wil re read this in a few weeks
I’ve had A Sorcery of Thorns sitting on my shelf for awhile now, but after hearing you talk about it I’m definitely going to pick it up sooner rather than later!
First of all, after i had seen the video with the spanish love deception i removed from my tbr and i m so glad i did😂 big thx for making that video. Second, best book i ve read this is hands down six of crows tho sorcery of thorns its close. It would be harsh to say worst book, more like okish - we hunt the flame-this took me so much time like 3 weeks and i can see why its popular but the first half was way too slow for me.I m looking forward to read the inheritance games.
Heartstopper and Spy x Family are easily the best things I've read (and watched!) this year, too! I'm so happy that these stories are in my life now - all time favorites and future comfort reads for sure!
All I can say is that I really really enjoyed watching this amazing video and I really love your honesty and your amazing channel please stay safe and enjoy your reading 📖 love your family friend John from Australia xx❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰
ugh i DNF'd the Spanish Love Deception and i NEVER DNF books... so yeah. it was just so boring and it wasn't going anywhere and i hated all the characters.
