Best coaching video on the net just now by a mile. Been playing 40 years and have learned a huge amount from this one video alone and stuff I never knew - like using different amounts of stun or top for certain shots so as to avoid cushions. I've never had coaching but would love to, to improve my game. Brilliant video Steve
Love these little built practice sessions. No stress with trying to absorb too much at once, which can ruin your concentration as a beginner or worse yet, just make you want to give up. I'm very new to snooker in the sense that I never took the time to properly learn all the techniques. I know how to spin the cue ball, but that's about as far as it went. Thank you for this video, very appreciated.!!!!
It’s a good exercise Steve ,I like to combine that with just practicing clearing the colours of the spots as well ,it’s quite eye opening sometimes how many different shots you need to play on what seems a simple clearance ,nothings ever the same on these exercises.
Good clear instructional video , but only what we have come to expect from you now Steve. Definitely the best snooker videos on RU-vid. I played 4 frames last Monday for the first time since Christmas. I used as much of your instructions as I could remember and won 3 of the frames. But now I’ve done my back in working so won’t be playing for a month or so. But I will keep watching your videos & picking up hints & tips. Cheers Steve. 👍👍

Great video. I do this exact routine and it’s massively helped with break building and close cue ball control. With regard to that, side is being mentioned for some shots, the only thing not being explained fully is most of the other shots are played using ‘helping side’ as well.

This is the current lineup I do. I completed fro 2 reds to 4 reds, but 5 is sooooo much harder as the gaps are so much smaller. I have only potted 3 reds and blacks so far. It makes a hell of a difference though when you get around the black and pink.

Hi, the dreaded black! Just got my snooker bug back after a 3yr break. My highest break is 104 and also made a 103. These were made in real frames, not practice routines. My big problem now is the black off the spot. Every where else on the table, Im ok but have lost how to pot the black with those higher up the table angle shots....Frustrating to say the least. Great channel by the way👍
Hi Steve Thank you for your videos. I'm struggling with this exercise because I'm still not sure about what shot to choose depending on the angle. You did another video about where the black would hit the cushion if hit straight. I think combining the two ideas would be great. So maybe have three spots on the cushion each side, marked by placing coins there or something and then explain the choice of shot. Perhaps you could even just use this video and add the points on the cushion digitally. Best Steve

Yeah this is definitely what I’ve been doing wrong! Leaving myself easier pots on the black and wondering why I get stuck on the cushion. Thanks for the video this is really helpful. How much do you take deflection into mind when aiming with a trace of side?
This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much. I have question, when you use left hand side on the black do you compensate or adjust the potting angle or not? when I play this shot with left, to pot the black I feel I aim different angle compared when stun it.
Hi steve have you any tips on playing reds into bottom corner pockets behind the black i find these shots really awkward i cant work out why i miss so many off cushion or close to cushion thanks ps love your content
My club table is full of chalk, it runs slow and difficult control the white ball. Is it my technique not being developed enough or it’s the cloth limiting my development?
Too good sir. I have been playing snooker since many years but when i hit the object ball, white ball always spins and gets side and due to this my next red ball placement gets out.. kindly suggest some practice to overcome this fault.
Another great video, and as usual you keep emphasising this "don't move" aspect of waiting until the ball goes in. It might be the best tip I have got from you, so important and a total game changer.
He speaks with a Northern Irish accent. This Barton dude is probably from Belfast - or maybe he spent his chidhood years there. He has a Belfast accent.
Steve's accent is from the black country region in the midlands. It's nothing like a belfast (Northern Irish accent). It is a strong dialect with a rich history behind it from it's they hey day of metal forging and manufacturing. Plenty of the words used are 100's of years old are hard to understand to people from other regions.
@@sidsidsidsid Ok cool. Im a Londoner born and bred. Nowadays most whites kids in London speak English with a hybrid Jamaican dialect which is very different from the anglo saxon dialect of English which is spoken in this t.v programme by this presenter. In the early 2000's, young white kids on council estates in London became JAMAICANISED. This is when they starting speaking with English with a hybrid Jamaican dialect. For example, Essex county is the only place in Britain where the cockney dialect/and or accent is still spoken. Tell something Wayne. Do you speak English in a hybrid Jamaican dialect?
Definitely worth practicing this, but until very competent at it, I think the balance has to be between break building and matchplay... the latter perhaps would probably want an easier angle on the black/colour even if a bit harder to get to a red, to assure potting of the colour, even if sacrificing a bit of position on the red... if you then miss the red but get perfect 'easy' position on the colour, the opponent doesn't have an easy start, compared to where you have a hard shot on a colour which you miss and get perfect position on the red :) Again, worth practicing so you are confident and assured of potting these harder angles particularly with side, then it's probably less of an issue :) Just my opinion :P
I don't mean to be a dick saying this but you will never start break building with that mindset! You will always find yourself struggling for position! It is far easier to practice this drill to begin with and start to learn how to build those breaks. The way your talking about doing it is easier to pot the black (colour) but your always chasing your tail having to play much harder shots to get back on a red with a nice angle for the next colour. Thats just my experience after 25yrs of playing snooker. I used to make 40s up to 70s & 80s now & again with your method. Now that I've learned the tips to make break building easier I'm playing the best snooker of my life. Here's a MASSIVE TIP for anybody reading this: if you ware glasses in your day to day life and u don't ware any playing snooker then I suggest you bite the bullet and get snooker glasses or contacts. I played for many many years without glasses because I was young and worried about looking like a plonker. I only recently started waring glasses and wow it has made the biggest difference to my game hands down. I can now see every shot perfectly clear, no fuzzy long shots anymore, no struggling to nip the edge of the shot on tight long shots etc. I ware my normal glasses....tighten the nose thingies very closed and the glasses sit on the very top of my nose bridge and I am no longer looking over the top of the lense when I go down for a shot. This has honestly been a revelation to my game. Who would have thaught🤣🤣I don't look like to much of a bellend either as they are normal frame glasses not the Dennis Taylor type. Twenty years of hacking away on my own with no instruction, barely made a break of thirty in all that time..... been following Barton Snooker, Barry Stark and Break From life for about a year and now have a high break of 63 which I’m confident I’ll surpass. Purely down to watching these great lessons..... so thanks Steve for that...... by the way you and Break From Life and Barry Stark should have a little tournament. Battle of the snooker coaches! Plenty would watch online 🙂
I have an idea for a series: People could send you in clips of them playing and then you could react and critique. Anyways, love the videos they have really helped my progression.
4:37? I would say timing is everything Steve, As timing creates the desired pace, and pace generates a live white. Shouldn’t every shot be well timed? After all, the art of snooker is to become a cueist. Even creating dull or a flat white needs that timing properly. Am I missing something, or lost translation :) ? But a good video about those bigger angled shots. The few you played with side I find more controllable at that range around half ball just using plain ball stun/stunrun. Vids on these touch shots make interesting content 👍🏻 Regards Jason
Hello sir I really disagree with you in using side Cue ball has 9 degrees 0 and 10 aren't included 5 is the center By using those degrees with good cue action and good time , I can get into all of these positions with almost no side used Side in snooker has its risk in missing the pot specially that you are playing a very delicate shots
That's the mistake amateur players make. Although you are right, that you can get the white into the same position without side, it is far harder to acheive, and that's why professional players don't do it. This isn't the way I play, this is the way all professionals do it. I could show you many, many examples. I'm teaching the BEST way to do it. There may be multiple options, but I'm showing you the BEST one 👍
