By the way "fudanshi / fujoshi" literally translates to "rotten boy/girl". Japan is still extremely conservative, and although the manga/anime communities (especially in the west) are much more accepting of bl & gl content, Japan is still very judgemental of it, and of lgbt in general. That would be why he's so ashamed of his love of bl manga. It's still a very big issue in Japan, and so it bleeds into the manga and a anime. You see similar plot points in, for example, Oshimai with the character Miyo Murosaki, who secretly loves yuri and gl manga.

I believe it was during one of our podcast episodes that Miguel and I discussed that this may have been why there was so much problematic content in a lot of BL and GL stuff because it was still viewed as “deviant” to a certain extent with the culture it’s being created in. What are your thoughts on that?
