Maybe because it's the most idiotic disconnection between how it's written and how it suppose to be spelled. Like an absolute Mount Everest of naming idiocy.
I've always disliked the lens flare of animorohic but loved the image it produces on everything else. This review made me re think that and now I want one. Great job 👌
I got in on their IndieGoGo for the P1 gimbal in November 2019. That was a good score for me. The lens seems to be getting more attention and support. I'm disappointed in the lack of followup on the gimbal (discussions, documentation, updates) but if I bought a no name gimbal from Aliexpress for the same price (and that would be a fluke), I wouldn't expect support or updates either. It's like there are totally different divisions of Sirui handling each product line. For this lens I think owners should be OK.
I've yet to get into phone anamorphic lenses. That said, if I do I'll revisit your wicked reviews. The vlog is going to be great. Glacier bouncy castles, snow pony races and more!
I feel like my journey has aligned with your RU-vid narrative. I’m upgrading my Fuji camera and I don’t see the need for stabilisation anymore. I really love the footage you got handheld with the X-T3 which is what I’m shopping for. And you’re run and gunning at 50mm! Brilliant I love it.
After hauling around a heavy-assed Kowa Prominar 16A on a Canon 50mm with a load of mounts, brackets and a follow focus all while trying to double focus, this Sirui is now on my list - if only to save going to a chiropractor
Caleb always drops videos a week before me for the same stuff 😂 Last time it was the Lumee light bracelets and this time its the Sirui lens. Literally finished unboxing the same lens to find that you posted a video 😂
I backed this on indiegogo and got the lens earlier this year. I LOVE it. Shooting it on a Fuji XT-3 and it’s just fantastic. I really hope they come out with a wide option, as 50mm on the crop is much longer than I’m used to shooting. But yeah, buy this lens. It’s worth it.
I don't like colored flares either... I want the flare color to match the light source its flaring from, or at least not be the same color on every flare because it looks too artificial.
That's great! Did you try the full sensor readout with the clear zoom 1.3x or 30FPS + 1.3x Clear Zoom? Because in UK our light will flicker for anything above 25 FPS and Sony uses the whole sensor for 24 or 25 FPS. If this works at 24 or 25 FPS which uses the whole sensor + 1.3X clear zoom I'll buy one right now. If you have time please let me know as I shoot Pal Region 25FPS. I will highly appreciate it.
I shoot 25fps with 1.3x clear image zoom no problem. you do have to watch out for the IBIS causing vignetting but otherwise it works a treat on my A7III and A7RIII in PAL recording 1.3x
Definitely a cool lens and happy to see it available, but it really doesn't hit the checkboxes of an anamorphic look for me. It's so much more expensive, but I'm stoked about what Vazen is offering. Hopefully we can see a happy middle between the two and the near future.
Do you have a comparison of the field of view on the 50 Anamorphic shot on 4:3 compared to a 50mm lens on a .71 speedbooster? If there’s a way to calculate it I haven’t figured it out... I’d love to see a side by side comparison. In fact, a field-of-view comparison of 50mm for all options would nice: .64 and .71 speedbooster, 1.33 anamorphic on 16:9 and 4:3 and the same with a 2x anamorphic.
Interesting thing, even it doesn't cover full 35mm type sensor, cutting out later in software showing that it still gives a little big wider FOV then in super 35 mode, or standart aps-c cameras
This is a truly, truly dumb question, but bear with me. I want to pick one up for my GH5, but I can't see being able to use it much on any of the productions I do because I don't have a wide alternative. 50mm is pretty long for a mft sensor, you know? So I've been wondering if you think it's completely unreasonable to find a wide angle adapter that would fit onto the front of the Sirui 50 Anamorphic. It's gotta be a bad idea, right? But also Fuji makes one for the X100 series of camera, so. . . Maybe?
Trevor Christensen one thing to consider is that while it’s a 50mm, it’s got a much wider field of view horizontally than a normal 50mm. Especially in 4:3 mode, it would be closer to a 35-40mm due to increased vertical use of the sensor and the wider FOV of the lens.
Ok, so according to their Amazon page the lens "has 33% wider field of view than conventional 50mm lenses corresponds to a field of view of 37.5 mm", but then again, you're shooting on a Fuji with a 1,5 crop factor... so that equals to 56,25mm FF equivalent with top and bottom black borders?
@@fedirshurkhal5044 pocket 6k has an ef mount and a super 35 so not full but not sure if you can adapt due to the sensor distance. Would love to find out.
@@jaxfilm because ef has a larger flange distance so the lenses are designed for that. The adapter makes up for that in E mount. You can't adapt the other way because e mount has less flange distance and that doesn't include the added distance of the adapter
Off topic question. I live in a loft with high ceiling with echo, lots of it.. for audio should i go with a lav or a shot gun? Awesome video as always 👌
Personally would go shot gun, I shoot a lot in warehouses and lapels still allow a lot of spill and verb in as they don’t reject as well off axis. Try to get shotgun just above the face about 12”-15” away and you should be good to go.
Definitely use a shotgun mic with sound blankets to minimize the echo. Caleb (and Curtis Judd) talks about it in one of Gerald Undone's videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D10W-Brn3U4.html
If you don't have the budget for sound blankets, furniture pads or normal blankets will work. But sound blankets are thicker and more effective at blocking sound.
@@kayv94 yep not cheap equals not cheap sound etc... as Jaxon says below if you can carpet floor and somehow have curtains or other soft furnishings around it will help to absorb reflections as that is all you are dealing with is reflections of sound off surfaces.
Been looking at this lens for the BMPCC4K for a while now ! So I’m late to the game too! I’m either getting a GH5 or BMPCC4K for a short film i want to do. Kind of leaning toward GH5 for around $1000. Simply because of the internal 422 and don’t have to spend $1000 to rig it out !
The GH5 will allow you to shoot anamorphic WITH stabilization and at 6K. The BMPCC4K will only do a 2.8K anamorphic mode and there's no stabilization at all. You don't have to rig out the pocket. It'll work just fine out of the box, just like the GH5. I have both. I use both. I've FULLY rigged out my P4K with about 6k worth of gear, so it's a cinema powerhouse, but if I were shooting a scene with an anamorphic lens, I'd put it on the GH5. You really can't go wrong with either camera, and the price is somewhat similar to start. But the GH5 is a far better all around camera unless you're looking to get serious. Then I'd suggest the P4K and start saving for kit as you need it.
2:18 Okay that what you just said. Question: if you use a Fujifilm X series, can you record 4:3 with an external recorder (Ninja V for example) and out put the "anamorphic look" to 16:9 or is it only applicable to those cameras you mentioned? Great videos by the way, always answers the question I'm thinking of.
Loving your videos! Been a huge fan of your content since 2017. So I'm an editor and I want to know your recommendations for audio speakers for editing on FCPX. By any chance do you have any suggestions? Thanks again. You and Scott McKenna are the reason why I went into GH5s/GH5 setup.
Thank you! I’ve been waiting for you to review this. I just got the x-t4 too and was looking into this lens. Is there a monitor you can recommend that will have the desqueezed view for easier focus in, something that won’t break the bank.
This is so cool. I have been trying to find an affordable, usable anamorphic option for years. 50mm on MFT is 80mm equivalent right? So would the 1.33 squeeze make it 106mm equivalent on MFT or am I calculating wrong?
Hi,wil you be making a XT4 Tutorial? If yes, when will it come out? I know that XT3 and XT4 are pretty much the same performance and sensor, but if you make a XT4 tutorial, I shall buy that one instead
Out of Topic Question:- If i use Zoom H1N while riding on my motorcycle having helmet on, will my voice heard clearly? Or I should attached extra mic with my Zoom (which i don’t wanna do, coz it’s very disturbing) Waiting for ur kind feedback!!! Thanks
Yo I'm sorry but I did not get the difference between E Mount, X Mount and a M4/3 Mount. I know you say it in the video, but I'm Italian and I don't get every word. I have a GH5, what would you suggest?
So if you were shooting a short or something where really it's be best to have a variety of focal lengths would could you cut it together with other non anomorphic lenses or would you just use this on its own?
Every time you upload videos you make me want to spend money on something I don’t need. Also, you should make a video on the godox vl-150. It’s basically an aputure 120d for $400 bucks. Just got mine the other day after a recommendation from Gerald undone
I am wondering whether to order the m4/3 version for GH5 or the fuji x mount for the xt3. Did you compare both mounts and is there an advantage for the APSC x-mount? By the way, did anyone get a copy of this lens or is it still in limbo for the common of mortals?
Hi I was wondering if i have an MFT mount for the Sirui 50 could i use and adapter and use it on my a6500? i know they have one for the 35mm..but im not sure if it will work for the 50.
I would really like to buy it (xt3 owner) but for this time there is only 50mm and for me i cant use one tight lens in my projects. If there would be at least one more wider lens that projects images like that i would buy two of them instantly coz i really love image for this price . greaty review as always
Thanks for the review, Caleb. I am familiar with the de-squeeze process, but does a 50mm anamorphic have the same initial FOV of a 50mm lens, or something wider? I rarely shoot at 50mm, as I favor wider lenses, so I'm wondering if a 50mm anamorphic would not suit my shooting style.
Just remember that the PCC4K only does anamorphic in a 2.8K crop. A little disappointing, but still perfectly usable. Especially when the GH5 does a 6K anamorphic.
