Thank you so much! It is really an amazing area! So glad you appreciated the bit of scripture, I just couldn’t hold that back! Cheers! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Thanks!! I appreciate the comment and kind words. Ya, I hope to find ways to weave in 📖 verses and overall Christian themes in current and future videos. Also, I try to do it with some of the music. Gotta represent 👊🏼✝️
Thanks! I really appreciate you watching and the comment! 🙌🏻👏🏻👊🏼 It was a great trip, and I recommend that area to anyone who can make it out there! 😃😃
Awesome! I love waterfalls hidden away in the desert! Deserts are so much more than most people realize. There's a reason the 1st Nation tribes could live there!
Ahahhahahah! Ya, that mine was a little ‘out there’ for me. I was fairly nervous going in. But there’s nothing like a good adventure where you could be killed by a collapse, poison gasses, rattle snakes hiding from the heat or falling to your death! 💀 🤣🤣🤣 That trip was NextLevel..!!
Looks like you guys had a blast! Wish I could get out that way, in the Midwest “southern Illinois “ a good trail is as rare as a unicorn! The ozarks are close enough though.😊
@@TrailNewbie I sware I was just making a video about my biggest hurdle being me, and trying to encourage everyone “ myself included “ to not give up, and the things we gain are worth more than the things we may have to sacrifice. Btw loved the gift guide video! I’m gonna have to find that titanium cup! Perfect size for ramen!
Great video, Greg! That intro was awesome. I remember Mike in his red jeep behind me one second and then a white jeep behind me. Haha. Talk about good timing on the trails to find us. See you at PNW!
Okay after that video you got me hooked! Such Beautiful scenery and I love the Bible verse and songs. So nice that you got to have a meet up with like minded people. I will never see scenery like that in my life, so it is so nice that you share with all of us home bodies. Stay safe in your travels.
Oh wow! Thank you so much! I really appreciate the encouragement! You may never make it to Panamint Valley, but, do everything you can to explore the world right around you! Sometimes you’d be surprised how much of God’s beautiful creation is not that far outside your doorstep! Thank you for watching and for your comment! I really appreciate it! 😀
I have been to Panamint Valley a few times in my life. One of my favorite California Destinations. I am simply amazed at the ability of the Burro to thrive in the hostile environment.
Subscriber and fan from the Philippines! When you went inside the mining tunnel, I was silently hoping that both of you would turn back immediately.. Really scary. First time to see that in an overland video. And then the glimpse of a 'ghost'. Whooooh!
Oh wow! All the way from the Philippines! That’s awesome! HAHAHA, ya, that cave was intense! Even if the ghost was a little ‘post production CGI’. AHHAHAHAHA Thank you so much for being a subscriber! I really appreciate it! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Your video - as a whole - is awesome. Thank you. The wife and I LOVE panamint ... please share the campsite coords. The view - is inclredible. Thank you.
Dude this video is so fun to watch. What a great adventure. Last time I was up there the north end was still covered in snow so we didn’t make it up there. Great editing and beautiful drone shots. Love your content Trail Newbie. 😎🤙🏼
Great video! That mine was epic, don't know if I couldve gone that far 😬, although we have been pretty deep into some lava tubes. Great ratio of exploring and adventure vs camp & cooking 😂 keep 'em coming!
Oh wow. Thank you so much! That means so much to me! I do all my videos just for fun. Just to try to bring some information, fun and inspiration to others. When I get a comment like this, it really helps me, and motivates me to do more! Thank you so much for your comment and reaching out! 😁😁😁
Love this video Greg! Panamint Valley is where I first got a chance to explore the Death Valley area and also where I first met Daniel 395jnky. You have some awesome drone shots and that World Beater cabin is epic!!!
Finally, I got around to watching the rest after a long week, You got some amazing footage, man! Hopefully, we can hit the trails after you're from overland expo. Thanks for the shoutout 🙌!
Great Video. Looks perfect for my Jeep Trailhawk. Been to Ballarat a bunch of times but always went to Death Valley. Can't wait till fall to retrace your steps.
Thank you so much for reaching out and for your comment! It’s notes like this, that really inspire me to do more! My hope with weaving my faith in more and more is that it will touch someone’s life at the right moment. I want to build others up in a world that is so focused on tearing you down. God’s creation is so inspiring! I hope I can bring some of that inspiration to others and that if my platform grows, that the glory will be His not mine. 👏🏻🙌🏻👊🏼 I appreciate you! 😁
At the beginning of your video, I thought it was the guy from NatGeo channel narrating LMAO... great video man, I enjoyed it. FYI I had to replay that ghost scene mentioned above... creepy!
Hahahah! Thanks! Ya, my wife cracks up when I do my narrations. 🤣🤣 But I love doing it - so…. 🤣🤣 Thanks for the comment! Glad you enjoyed the video! 👏🏻👏🏻😃😃👊🏼👊🏼
Cool video. Ive spend hundreds of hours at those locations. I would caution about naming them and making it too easy to find those places. Thats why I left California, the back country areas got wrecked. The last time I stayed at Boxcar I noticed more and more grafitti on the walls. Thats what the log book is for. And some 'European Knights' (travelers) branded the cabin. And now there are a bunch of stickers on the window. Dan, the guy who restored that cabin so we can enjoy it, stopped going due to all the trash on the walls. Its remote enough that if you do a little research and pull some clues from other videos, you can find these spots. Its not the destination, its the journey getting there.
Yes, I couldn’t agree more that vandalism and trashing trails in public land is the absolute worst! I struggle with keeping the locations completely undisclosed - as I have learned so much from other channels like mine when I am researching various places to go. This is a very appreciated comment, and I will surely consider this in future videos as well. Probably a good reminder also to include in my videos comments about keeping our public lands in excellent shape!
Indeed! It’s funny, I cook at home, almost never. But when you get out there, you really want to put together a nice dinner! Cooking off the back of a jeep is so much fun! 😁😁😁
Hey that’s my dad Griff on the Ballarat porch minding the store. Ask him about the Panamints when you visit. He’s been roaming those mountains for over 50 years
Oh no way!!! That’s awesome!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Ya, there was a couple of guys hanging out there in-deep conversation so I didn’t really get a chance to talk with him because I didn’t want to interrupt. 😁😁 Thanks for reaching out, and thanks for the comment! 👏🏻🙌🏻👊🏼
Thank you so much! Really glad you liked it! It was an awesome trip! 😁😁😁 I do this 100% for fun only so it’s the comments like this that keep me going!! 👊🏼👊🏼👏🏻👍🏼
There must’ve been some heavy flash flooding, because Darwin Falls is usually a big pool like a small swimming area but I see it’s all filled with sand right now
Ya, I was thinking the same thing! It didn’t make sense to me that there wasn’t a pool there. So, like you said, some major dirt/sand movement must have filled it in.
I Just commented on your next video how I found your channel. I too share similar values and WOW what a channel. I do my little jeepNdirt channel for fun and excited to have over 9k views on a nice TJ build for my dad, but it would be cool to say I had 45k plus views. Great job, very inspiring and awesome story telling and fun.
Last time I was in the Panamints several years ago, our camp had to move to a new location unexpectantly. We found a big mine that became operational again and were asked to move. We complied. So Our second party was coming up the next day but we had no cell service to relay our new location. We could have driven back toward Trona that morning but what a hassle that would have been. Well fortunately, I had my Yaesu 870d mobile ham radio and a 10meter vertical antenna. My buddy in the other group has the same set up. We had prearranged to be listening to a particular 10m HF frequency in the band and luckily, we managed to communicate our new and last minute location the next morning. My buddy was some 40 miles away in his truck when we established contact. I was able to tell him our new location after we moved the night before. I was getting some awesome skip over the mountains and 10-meters was “hot” during that sunspot cycle back then.
great video would be interested in coordinates of the campsite you found if you are willing to share. i havent explored the area around ballarat yet but look forward to that next trip out there
Great question. We did not. Since we went in there, I’ve been looking into various ways to monitor air quality for future exploration. Do you happen to have any suggestions on this topic? Would love to know more. 😁
The trail from Ballarat up to World Beater Mine is maybe about an hour up and an hour back. Something like that? Thank you for watching and for your comment! 🙏🏼 I really appreciate it! 😀
The mine you guys went through is called the copper queen. Believe it or not, it is the very first mine do you have ever used pneumatic tools in the United States? The shaft that you found in the mine used to have a single man elevator that went up to Lookout city, which is where everyone who worked on the mine lived.
NO WAY!!! That is SO AWESOME!!! And, YES the next time we are out there we’ll reach out! I love that area, but truly am a newbie compared to the knowledge you have. Thanks for sharing this info. Really appreciate it!! 😁😁😁
A little secret for you if you drive up and around to the backside of Darwin Falls there is a pond and a shack, but be sure to bring gold fish food because there are some large goldfish somebody has put in the pond when I was last there the count was about 20
Those are the original wolf pack boxes. I think this will work with the pros as well, but I think the measurements to make the legs will just be slightly different. If you check out the video on my channel called “What is it?” That gives more detail. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Oh wow!! That’s crazy! So cool. That mining operation is at the south east side of the valley, ya? What an amazing area - and the history is rich! Man, hard to picture snow at Ballarat, but I believe it!!! 😁😁👏🏻👊🏼
I know I've lived in the Mojave too long when I immediately know where you are in the first few frames. LOL. Tehachapi is obvious... And passing the Parris law firm billboard. Ugh. Then basically the first few minutes, knew 100% where you were. Even that awful gas station in Trona. heh. I know all those geographic landmarks by heart. Sad, but true!
Great question, I actually only use my iPhone to do all of my filming except for my drone work. The drone I use is a Mavic Air 2. All of my editing is done on my iPhone as well using the iMovie app. I am very minimalist with regard to my editing, software and platform. Plus, being able to edit on my phone allows me to do most of my editing, while on the 🚽 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for reaching out and for the encouragement! This trip was filmed just about five weeks ago. So, if I’m remembering correctly early, May 2023.
Yes indeed! That’s a great channel! I’ve missed the last few, so I need to catch up! 😃 But, I want to get up to Cerro Gordo in the next year or two for sure! 🙌🏻👏🏻👊🏼
🙏🏼 thank you so much for your encouragement! I am so appreciative and inspired by God’s creation, that I can’t help but share it..! 🙌🏻 Thank you for your encouraging comment and for being a subscriber. I love hearing from everyone who is impacted by my content.
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate you watching and for the comment! 👊🏼👏🏼😃 short answer is you’ll be totally fine - with one exception: pin stripping. The brush is pretty unforgiving, but it’s 100% doable if you’re not afraid to take some scratches. 😃👏🏼👊🏼🙌🏼
There is some sort of landing strip by Panamint Springs. When I was there a guy was trying to get me to charter his twin engine plane to go to Sacramento. I had no idea why he latched onto me other than maybe he was broke. It took a while to get rid of him.
Ballarat and World Beater cabin is cool and all, but it’s better to camp at one of the better “adopt-a-cabins” like Briggs Cabin. It’s the absolute KING of desert cabins. I’ve camped there several times with a group of buddies. Good times.
Awesome! If you are looking for any of those coordinates for the locations, we went to, I think there should be a whole list of them down in the comments for this video. Travel safe, and I hope you have a great time!
Awesome! Welcome to the channel - hope it’s one that you enjoy coming back to time and time again! My typical posting time-period is monthly. I do this just for fun, so I can’t do weekly videos or anything. Thanks for subscribing! 🙌🏻👊🏼👏🏻
You have to scramble up the wall to get to the falls. There was a road but maybe its blocked off now. The road above the falls is about three feet deep in sand. Darwin has a water tower up there. The road will take you to Darwin.
@@TrailNewbie I think the only reason that was there was the recent wet weather. Was'nt there when I was. There were some rock climbers there and they showed me where to put my hands and feet. But when I left I had to do it on my own. Only about a 10 foot fall but still I did'nt want to break any bones. The upper falls has the pool you were referencing. I drove the road in a rental car and nearly got stuck but I did'nt see the coy pond. I thought that was a hike to somewhere as I've seen it on YT. When I was at Panamint Springs they were on diesel gens on flatbeds and there was no restaurant or RVs, just a camp ground. No telephone. The owner had a transmitter and as soon as I pulled in he called an armed Forrest Service guy. When he rolled in with a shot gun and looked at me he rolled his eyes. A fat smilling guy sucking a Dos Equis was hardly part of the Manson family. The owner was very paranoid. I know it has all changed. Darwin had electricity and I believe now phones as well as a post office. There is apparently a landing strip in the area. Darwin had some big mines. There was an asian guy at the resort who looked like his mind had been totally zapped by the vast open areas with no people. He just looked stunned. There was nothing at Ballarat when I was there. Went to Chris Weight camp to drive to Panamint City but road was closed. I guess the hike is a killer. Drove by Cerro Gordo but sign said road was private and no trespassing. I understand now its a county road so missed Cerro Gordo before Brett burned the hotel. Would like to see the salt tram.
I have an old 97 Chevy Tahoe two door 4 wheel drive that is actually very capable with what I have thrown at it so far but definitely don’t want to do rock crawling type extreme stuff. Just looking to make it to a quiet beautiful dispersed spot. Thanks for replying
@@jdgreany Right on! Yes, you should be able to make it up there no problem! Only issue would be pinstripes - but if you're not afraid of those, then you'd be 100% good to go!!
Great question! No permit necessary! You are good to go! Just have a campfire permit handy, and if you enter Death Valley National Park, you will need to get a permit for that. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
Great question!! The answer as far as I know is no, you cannot fly a drone in any National Park. All drone work in this video was done outside of the National Park and in all cases was on BLM (Bureau of Land Managment) public land. I try my best to adhere to these regulations, but I can see how this might be confusing in the video. The bulk of Panamint valley and the surrounding mountains are outside of the park. 😁😀
Yes, that mine was incredible! And it sure was unique to see Darwin Falls. I had heard about it before, and really wanted to check it out. It was a great trip through that area for me and my brother-in-law! Thank you for the comment, and for reaching out!😁😁😁
Hey buddy! That spot seemed a little windy in my video, but it really wasn’t. It was just generally breezy. No issues. But, that spot could potentially be a really windy spot due to being on the crest of a hilltop. But, if you get it on a good day - it’s an insane spot!! 😁👏🏻👊🏼
@@TrailNewbie I think you have to get really lucky to get little to no wind as the desert winds at times could be un-predictable. You guys got luck with the conditions.
@@TrailNewbie In Death Valley the wind comes down from the 14000 foot mountains at night at about 40 mph. Cool season. Its for real and it does'nt quit.
Thank you so much! Yes, it just sort of came to me one day as I have a pretty minimalist set up. I didn’t want to have boxes or stuff hanging off of the jeep, so this was a great solution. Hope it is helpful for you! 😁😁😁
Dude when you say there cant be much oxygen back there. I was thinking the same thing !! If you guys lost oxygen you would passed out … death. Too crazy
Ya, my brother in law was getting a little light headed. We decided to call-it and turn back. We were pretty far in there, and definitely did not want to risk it. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃
