Look on the lens ring, there's a small screw set in the lens mount that's missing from the Fringer. This is something you can see on the lens ring on any lens designed for the EOS mount. There is a screw there but it's likely it's not unscrewed enough to stop the mount rotating past where it should.
The adapter is flawless.Only con it eats up more battery life and it the weight . Some what front heavy. Canon 24-70mm f2.8L II, Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L III and the 70-200mm f/2.8L III all work perfectly. I also use all Sigma art lens no complaints. This adapter is a game changer. Can’t wait for the new IBIS body to release. I wish my mc11 worked as well on my Sony bodies.
Thanks John. You have presented an extremely helpful video and reading your replies to other comments, I’ve noted your politeness and respect. Not all RU-vid creators do that! I’ve liked and subscribed on that point alone!
@@johnstamw Ok John ! Thank you very much for giving me some insight on what the lens adapter will do with Fuji system ! I will Soldier on with this idea , of using this combo ! Again Thank you !
Got the adapter per your recommendation, it's been a dream! I've been using it with the efs 17-55 f2.8 is and it's been like using the native fuji 16-55 except with stabilization! Thanks again
love your calm demeanour. love it. keep them coming. now contemplating if it is worthwhile spending the money just so that i could use my canon 16-35mm
Im not an amateur, im a serious hobbyist. I found this very helpful. I have been wanting this adaper and a cheap nikon f to xf, if you can review some for my d810 lenses to place on my fujifilm xt1, xt3, i know there is a nikon to fujifilm g to xf also for aperture control but want to hold off on that adapter, but would be very interested in seeing that review as well. Dont knock your style just because you have no filler, or you have not enough technical jargon, you are very thorough, and had examples and actual scenarios and pros and cons. And solidified my decision to purchase the adapter sooner rather than later. Keep up the good work.
Hi... Great video.... Was thinking of getting an adapter but have not been able to decide between the fringer and viltrox. Do try to do a video comparing the two. Cheers and all the best for your channel. 👍
I'm going to get this for my X T3. Thank you for a great video. I use the Sigma MC11 on my Sony A7R iv and to be honest it seems like the Canon glass works better on the Sony than it does on the Canon. The good adapters are just amazing in their ability to use other company glass.
For the record, my Fringer II adapter does indeed have a hard stop on my XT3. Also, it does make autofocus more clumsy with my Canon 85mm 1.8, especially if focusing on something close and then trying to hit something far or vice versa.
Hi John. Good video - the walk test at the end with different lenses was a great idea in AF-C. The hard stop missing when fitting the adapter is normal, it's to allow for a huge variety of lenses that might differ when it comes to upward orientation. For example, with a hard stop, you might be stuck with the lens being upside down and not be able to easily see the physical readings. Some adapters allow the orientation to be changed by loosening the inner barrel using an allen key. Others don't allow it at all. I'd hope that maybe the fringer is much harder to turn than it is to turn a zoom/focus ring manually. Was that the case?
John, has Fringer responded to the mystery? Why do the lens rotate without being stopped. That feels like such a bad experience. It would be best to know the end of that mystery and close it out
I was sooo close to buying the Canon 90D because if its native Sigma mounts but it wasnt going to be a happy purchase...more of a least of all evils. Now with XT4 out and this adapter available, hopefully I'll be able to make a happy purchase and get into the Fujifilm family!
@@johnstamw Oh yes, now Ive got all the time in the world ))) Im working on making a channel for myself now, all trial and error as well as the theoretical search for my main camera. I have found a mentor in you! Thank you for the time you put into your videos.
Great video! I'm undecided on getting the Sigma 18-35 with the Fringer Pro or just buying a 23 f2, and a 16 1.4 since I already have the 35 F2. What do you think?
It's an amazing adapter just got it for my sigma 18-35 with xh2s it feels as native Lens af both video and photos The EF 24-105 is pretty old and is bit clunky but for photography is totally fine. The viltrox is horrible 😅
New Sub here John, thanks for the great content!! So I watched your Viltrox adapter video first and it got me concerned because I sold off my entire XT2 system and all of my Fuji lenses to buy into the canon EOS R and TF and EF L series lenses but I just miss that Fuji experience especially for my portraiture work, so I’m either going to pick up the XT4 or wait a little while to see what the XH2 becomes. But either way I’m very pleased with the L series glass and the EOS R for video, but again miss the Fuji system for photography. Thanks, Adam
John Stambaugh You’re very welcome! You make a very valid point but I actually had an XT3 thinking I was going to upgrade from my XT2 but didn’t see enough improvement on the Photo side because I use all Panasonic cameras for video. So I ended up selling the XT3 and just keeping the XT2 for photo but as I mentioned while switching over to canon I sold my Panasonic systems
John Stambaugh So I used to use the Fuji 56mm F1.2 on my XT2 for all my portraiture work, but o just always missed the FF depth of field for certain angles (not always,) but I never adapted canon glass onto my Fuji so I’m wondering how the Canon 50mm F1.2 adapted to the Fuji sensor with the Fringer would be, any experience? Thanks again, Adam
THanks for this review. my question is, I believe the quality of Sigma 18-35 is better than 18-55 Fuji Kit lens right? I want to switch to this Sigma lens but worry that the lack of OIS will be hard for video as I mainly shoot video. What's your opinion?
So I'm returning to photography after a very long hiatus (thanks to my wife's never ending encouragement). I plan on focusing almost exclusively on bird photography. Looking at the X-T4 and either the Fujifilm XF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 R LM OIS or the Fringer + Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | C. Any opinions?
Glad I came across this. More curious about LUTs and color grading process but I noticed your LUT products are for non-FLOG profiles on Fuji-are you not shooting FLog ever?
Hi John, thanks for the vid, it convinced me to buy this adaptor. I'm just wondering how you stop the camera from constantly changing the aperture (i think to expose the screen) and instead lock it wide open when looking through the viewfinder or the rear screen. I hope I explained this ok haha
Hey, I'm planning on getting this adapter. I find your review helpful and i wanted to know what lenses have you tried with it so far and if any particular lenses doesn't work with the adapter. Thanks 😀
Hi, John. This is a great video How does this fringer works on the fuji X-H1 for photo shoot? how is the AF continuous performance with the other EF L series lenses such as 70-200 f/2.8? Thank you.
WHAT ABOUT A 50MM SIGMA ART WITH A CANON EF TO MY FUJI X-T2 ??? I really need to use this matchup for my Sigma 105mm Art...I only need Aperture control, because I’m shooting from 30secs. To several minutes, with focus being manual.
Thx for the video. I’m wondering if you’ve tried it with the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Canon EF? I have the XT4 and am thinking about this.
Are you happy with the Fringer and the 50mm 1.4? When I tested it outdoors, it would often lose its ability to focus completely, until I restarted the camera.
Does the canon 'in lens' image stabilisation work with the fringer as well on a xt-3? U P D A T E: I overlooked the info on the fringer website, lens IS does work with the fringer adapter. Sorry for asking, kind regards 👍
John, thank you for the informative review! I am new to lens adapters, so I may be asking the obvious, but I'll ask anyway: Is the 'adapted' lens exactly as sharp on a Fuji X body as it is on a Canon body? Does the adapter affect anything in the way of lens sharpness/resolution on the Fuji body, or is the adapter 'transparent' in that respect?
I absolutely agree that the Fringer team is very responsive and quick. But this quirk you showed is 100% the reason I wouldn't buy it. I do have the Pro Version i and haven't noticed this with that or any lens over my years of using different DSLRs since 2011.(within my capacity as a serious enthusiast) You'd better check this with them if you haven't as yet.
Hey John thank you for this useful and explaining video. My question would be, I dont have canon lenses but Im huge fan of sigma lenses, and is it really worth to adapt them to fuji? I had sony camera and back in that days I fell in love with sigma, on fuji system I dont feel I get that colors (native lanses I mean), or may be the issue is just me, but anyway still have this question on my mind. Does it worth to adapt, or shoul I save for expansive fuji primes? :) Thanks in advance.
Do a comparison video with fullframe... DoF, F stop difference, FoV difference etc.. am stuck between full frame and fujifilm. (Doubt) And, is there any speed booster to adapt fuji lenses on fuji body itself? Thanks
@@johnstamwHi Jhon, I am using fringer with xt30 and sigma 18-35 1.8, and the continuous auto focus is not reliable at all, its slow and some times doesn't work and even if it works it jumps quickly between objects. Any advise plaease?
Hello John ! I am Curtis Byrd here in Texas . Have you thought about doing a review with theses combo of the XT3 , the Fringer Pro lens adapter , and the Sigma 105 mm Art lens ! I am considering this combo with my XT3 as a portrait lens ! Your thoughts on this , be greatly appreciated ! Thank you ! .....Curtis
Hi John, my question is between PANASONIC and FUJIFILM, I know that panasonic with the speed buster can have an additional stop, can fujifilm do the same when using a Fringer EF-FX Pro II? - I understand that the micro four thirds is smaller, but today I was wondering about that, I still have the doubt, since I would like to buy that adapter with the SIGMA 18-35 mm, I like that combination!
Can you provide any information on the optical performance of this adapter. The adapter has glass in it (I think?), so, does it introduce any colour, CA, or coma to any lenses? It would be good to see some examples showing corner performance of lenses used with the adapter, ideally compared to using those lenses on a Canon camera to see if the coma or CA changes.
Hi! Do you think the Fringer ef-fx PROii is very different compared to its non-pro version in terms of lens compatibilty and function? I couldn’t decide which one to get. I’m not so big on the aperture ring and the price difference is quite significant. Is it really worth the Pro model? Great review by the way!
You’re right, the lens sigma 18-35 is superb but also very heavy.. the XT4 is about 650 gr + the Fringer Adapter is 350 grams + 850 grams for the sigma lens = nearly 2kilograms or 4 pounds.. do feel that it’s to heavy for traveling ?
John Stambaugh okay thanks for your reply. Do you take that lens also for traveling ? :) It would be nice if you could make a comparison to the a7iii. Why did you change the system?
@@johnstamw Yeah, before buying I watched your video, and sometimes I'm like: it's not as perfect as you say in your video. Like he can recognize faces or eyes even if it's not an actual person, the focus is slow and imprecise, and when he actually detects a face he hardly keeps the square of the detection and it's slow sometimes. So idk what's wrong with me, I can't even know where this problem comes from since it's the first camera I got, I don't have other lenses and I'm a beginner.
Hi there and thank you so much for your wonderful video. I want to ask you if a put a Canon ef 16-35 f4 I will get a field of view of 16mm on full frame or the field of view on the crop sensor 24mm.thank you so much
Hi Jason, i have one question about combo XT3/4 Fringer Pro ii And Sigma 18-35. When you are using autofocus, do you hear AF from Sigma at shotgun mic?
You spoke of using this with your xt 3 and xt 30, and later went on to talk about how weather resistant it is. I recently purchased an xt30, is there a way to make it weather proof? Like some accessory that protects it from the elements?
hi John,i have a Tamron 70 200 f2.8 G2 canon ef mount lens, i want to know how it will perform with my newly bought fuji XH1 . The autofocus, lens stabilization and my xh1 IBIS.
I don't understand the purpose of it's aperture ring. Does this imply that the lens' aperture ring is not functional with this adapter. Or are you controlling two apertures?
Duh! Thank you so much. I've only been a Fuji user for a few months and I'd already forgotten that other cameras don't have aperture rings on their lenses. LOL
Hi John. Do you have the Ronin S? - If so, do you know if the sigma/fringer combo is supported by the ronin so that you can use the focus wheel? It was lovely that X-t3 finally got supported by ronin.
Other then the built in aperture dial and build quality, is there a difference between the ii pro and the ii? Id get the ii pro but if that's the only difference why not go for the ii?
