I travelled to Xiamen China to discover how carbon bikes are made. I've been invited by Winspace, one of the leading carbon manufacturers to visit their head office and manufacturing facilities. In this (2 part!) documentary I will share what I've seen and learned on this amazing trip!
Watch part 2 about Lún Performance and their production of wheels. Showing the process from raw carbon fibers till the end result, their latest flagship model, the Lún MEGA. 👉 • Watch This Before You ...

Jasper, thanks for putting your time, energy, and money into this factory tour. Don't let the haters ruin the taste of a job well done. 🎩👌 It's clear that without 3rd party support (Winspace), this video could not have been made because it would have cost thousands of dollars. For decades, the Chinese have been taught by name brand manufacturers on how to build these products along with all the tools needed. So it was only a matter of time for them to get in on the action. Back in the 1990s we were rebuilding vehicle trim and bumpers that required rechroming, it was a long and complex process that includes cleaning and dipping a specific part into a vat of chromium-based solution. As the new u.s. regulations started to take effect and drive up cost, it was no longer profitable for us. You could actually ship the parts to China to be rechromed and back cheaper than we could do the process here in the u.s. Thanks for the video Jasper!

People often mixed China's knockoff frame as same as legit brand from China like Winspace, they are totally different thing. Glad to see more brands starting to show how they made their bikes. Giant, Time, Factor and now Winspace, when come to making carbon bikes and components, far east is the master. Don't really see much Western or Europe "Prestige" brand doing this as they have their production line outsourced to far east as well, Pinarello literally release a "How we painted our frame in Italy that came from far east" LMAO.

They need an endurance frame! With threaded BB, external cables and 40 mm tyre clearance guess what - they will dominate the mass market. With race frames, it's not the case. Personally, I will buy two, for myself and my dad. Riding their pair of wheels for 3 seasons now, very satisfied.

It was so sponsored, but also very interesting :). I mean sponsored in a good way. If money were no issue, or if I could get it for free, I'd choose Winspace over Pinarello any day. At least now we know where and how Winspace frames are made, which is more than you can say for carbon Pinarello or most other mainstream brands. China is the new Japan with amazing work ethics and bright minds behind their products. They should get rid of their western middlemen and do it their own way. Sadly for us customers, they have started to realize this, and prices are going up, so we don't have many chances left to get a discount as early adopters.
@pigupigu

@jasperverkuijl
@jasperverkuijl 3 дня назад
With pro cyclists nobody questions what they say but with videos on RU-vid…. The minute something is sponsored people think you are selling lies. (Not saying you are saying that though) I think the word “sponsored” has such a negative load for content creators….. the trip was paid for by Winspace sure, but everything else I had to do myself. You’d be surprised how little they actually came up with or input they had in this video…. I planned and wrote all the scripts and shots.. we had to look for people on location to be able to tell us something about the factories etc… About the middle man, that’s what Winspace does, they don’t have the western company and do it themselves direct to consumer. There is not really an extra link in the chain you can take out. The factories don’t sell direct to consumers or distributors so it can’t go more direct than this
@IvanMalechko
@IvanMalechko 3 дня назад
@@jasperverkuijl Thank you for your reply and for the great job putting both videos together in a watchable and engaging format. I can see it wasn't easy to get some of those guys excited about promoting their own product, lol. Production quality is top-notch as well. I really enjoyed both parts. 👍 For pro-peloton riders, I always keep in mind that Pogi is winning not because he rides a Colnago or uses "ketone-iq" or other branded products. There's often a difference between being sponsored and openly shilling someone's product for a paycheck without providing honest and valuable input, which I see in many undisclosed cycling channels, but not yours (I probably shouldn't have even mentioned this in the first place :)). And yes, that's what I meant: a direct-to-consumer model under their own brand name, at a reasonable price, as we see with Winspace, Yoleo, and some other Chinese wheel and frame manufacturers. They definitely need to improve their customer interactions and basic brand recognition and marketing. But I would rather support a manufacturer and designer directly than some US guy with an MBA degree who only came up with a fancy slogan and brand, along with that fake "designed in Oregon/California" sign (which is also not the easiest job sometimes, but not as honest, in my opinion).

Hahahah. You will never find Babi pangang in China 😂😂 so I guess you’ve never seen the real Chinese quality (the good stuff I mean… you probably only know the bad stuff )

@@jasperverkuijl That’s why I like it, they took the Chinese food and made a Dutch/ western version, which is pretty nice. Same story with the road bikes. And for quality food (and products), you should go to Japan and South Korea.

I don’t know what to say to you because you probably have your answer ready. I went there to showcase the production of Winspace and that’s what I made this video about. I learned a lot and I’m sharing it with the world. Nothing I say is predominated by anyone but me. So🤷🏼‍♂️ it not propaganda. It’s just different than you expected maybe.

@@benhardwick1970 China is threat to EU, same as Russia is threat. We would better be “closed minded” than sorry later. In Lithuania we had experience with soviet russia and occupation, so we know a little about dictatorship countries. Do you? There is nothing to simpathyse with dictators and their business.

@@VelopeakBoilers 😂 dictators are everywhere! Just some have more power than others. Yes you are closed minded. You think democratic countries are really much better?? Some people stab you in you’re back whist others stab you in the front, which is better?? Tell me about the opium wars?? Tell me about colonisation? Yes China and Russia so bad things but so do all counties with power. Ironically you talk about propaganda

Sure it is paid by Winspace dude! Pretty logical don’t you think? You think I would spend all that money on a trip to China with money out of my own pocket? Where are you going with this? Always people complaining about if it’s paid or not. You expect me to make free content for my audience and pay for it myself? How would that work?
