The US Bank Smartly card should be on this list (up to 4% catch-all!), but this card was announced after I made this video. I’ll do a full video review of that card after it becomes publicly available.
Yeah, there's been quite a bit of complaining about the US Bank card. Lots of "not worth it" comments. Yet the burden is comparable to the Robinhood burden, and pays out in higher percentage. And people love the Robinhood card
I haven’t done the full math out yet, but this card has a lot of potential depending on how US Bank wants to play it. If it has no FTFs, that would make it a true catch-all card, but there’s a lot of unknowns right now. It was recently announced that it would be no annual fee so that’s definitely a step in the right direction!
@@TheCreditFrog waiting to see what you find out on it Stan. Though I'm an avid points hunter, with the constant program devaluations, I'm thinking twice about a CB backup setup.
Really important to have a foundational catch-all Card in all of our Setups, because with how crazy life is, you never know what sort of expenses you'll need to use them for! I really liked how you narrowed down this list in terms of accessibility and making sure it can be used everywhere as well. Definitely an important distinction when we are talking about being able to use the Card internationally for example. I'm loving my Venture X as my catch-all currently! Great video Stan!
Appreciate it Matt! Yeah the Venture X is such a solid catch-all credit card that can double for travel purchases. I believe that a true catch-all card has to have no FTFs because otherwise, it has to be switched up, which is no good. We want stable credit card setups, haha!
@@TheCreditFrog 1:12 unless if you have a backup Mastercard or Visa. For example, Bread financial currently offers a flat 2% cash back amex card without a yearly fee and the card doesn't charge a FX fee either
@@TheCreditFrog For sure. Alliant is definitely easier to get just being $1K etc. But I like US Bank as a bank issuer, so it's nice to just stick to one eco system.
Great video. Actually just got approved for the Capital One venture X and saver one. Going to spend the next year and a half packing miles on those two cards for a trip to Japan in late 2025
I would also consider the AOD Federal Credit Union's Signature Visa that earns 3% cash back on up to $1,500 per billing cycle with no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, and no hoops to jump through beyond those to join the credit union.
@@ProfessorX-RU-vid used to be unlimited, so they nerfed it. Also it's no longer available for new applicants. My Priceline 3.33% unlimited still stands after 12 years!
For USA spend only i use my hilton business as it is 5x on everything. Ae avg north of 0.75cpp. Maybe not the best but we use it to fund at least 2 weeks/15 days every other year at a resort.
Hey if you can use those Hilton points, definitely a great way to go! I think it’s a great strategy for those who spend close to $100k on the card per year!
Hey Stan love the content! I know you mentioned the SoFi Mastercard but why not include them in the video? They get a 10% boost with direct deposits, bringing them up to a 2.2% cash back with no foreign transaction fees and $0 annual fee
Venture X is my fav card. So easy to justify, can use it anywhere as it’s a visa. Has transfer partners I need and it’s the best when paired with the Savorone. I do wish I could use the $300 travel credit outside the C1 portal but for the most part I haven’t seen inflated prices when used for flights in the portal. Hotel prices are inflated tho, so would not recommend using it for hotel bookings in the C1 portal.
Great video stan. And definitely great points to consider. Out of my 25+ credit card arsenal only 4 of them are non-amex & no FTF. 😳 I definitely will need a no FTF catch all card in the future for my international travel.
@@docsays Oof! Yeah that’s why it’s great to take an inventory to make sure your portfolio has some good catch-alls for the right situation! Thanks Doc!
Saw You tell someone a best catch all credit card had to be one card. Not some multi card bunch of 5% credit cards with caps less than 3 grand. Then I would say the us bank altitude reserve. In the world of CATCH EVERYTHING that seems better all told than anything here if I can only have one.
My catchall card is USB AR, grandfathered AT&T Access More, backed by grandfathered Priceline with 3.33% cashback, BBP and (for now) Venture X. Priceline, Venture X and USB AR have no FTF and no caps. All are Visas. My international travel setup consists of: Citi Prestige (restaurants, airlines, travel agencies) Wyndham Business (gas) Autograph Journey (hotels) Savor One (groceries, entertainment) Ink Preferred (other travel) USB AR (catch all + other travel) Priceline (backup) Venture X (backup)
@@TheCreditFrog And when mobile wallet is not accepted? I was recently able to use mobile wallet at Walmart via Samsung's MST on a new terminals, which Walmart recently installed. MST also works at Home Depot. Lowe's and Kroger recently enabled NFC. I'm not aware of any other stores that don't have NFC.
@@TheCreditFrog works for me at restaurants too, you just need to ask. Online shopping - sometimes, if you checkout via Chrome on mobile device. I know that it works much better with Apple pay for online.
Great list of cards! I currently use my Venture X for my catch all. Interested to learn more about the US Bank Smartly card once more details get released
Appreciate it Xavier! I’m hoping it will be a good one as well, but I’ll hold my judgment until it’s released. Great to finally meet you at the meetup!!
Thanks Stan. Good mention of opportunity lost putting $ in some of these banks to get the higher %. Hard to beat a standard 2% catch all. Synchrony bank has one that no one ever does a show on it. Maybe you should do a show on the synchrony bank 2% catchall card.
Of course! Yeah, there are too many 2% catch all cards to count! It really does depend on if you want to put in the work for the extra %! I’ll have to look into the Synchrony card!
Hey Stan can we get a video on Chase Trifecta vs Capital One Duo + Citi Custom Cash? I'm fairly new and want to stay within the 5/24 before deciding anything. Or if you have any advice that doesn’t need a video?
Hi Elonic! Yeah, that's a great idea for a video! I would say, in short, if you're pretty new, you should start with Chase first so you get those Chase cards out of the way. The Chase Trifecta is a great beginner's setup! Once you do that, you can apply for the other setups if you want and not have to worry about 5/24! Of course, if you really want another setup first, then go for that, but that is the general guideline!
I noticed the elimination of Amex BBP right away due to FTFs and dubious int'l acceptance - I agree. Also notable was the glaring omission of Chase CFU with its 1.5% and FTFs. I just can't understand why Amex and Chase think they can hold "catch all" market share while being so far behind their competitors e.g. VX (?). Imo, if Cap 1, Citi, and Wells improves their travel partner offerings and luxury bene profiles, the 2 leaders would be in serious trouble. If I were a CB person, BOA would be a no brainer. Thanks Stan👍🏾
Appreciate it Nkosi! Yeah, for most, the FTF thing is not an issue, but for those who travel internationally, it’s an important factor since you’d have to swap out an FTF card for a No FTF alternative. Catch All cards should have both! I also wish Amex and Chase had options for that!
There are a ton of cards with 2% cashback, and some of them have no FTF. But there are only handful of cards which earn 2x points or more than 2% cashback.
@@TheCreditFrog Sneaky FTF even when not travelling: "Foreign" can apply separately to your location, or their location, or currency. Some banks will charge a fee for domestic transactions in foreign currency (US Kickstarter site collecting funds for international projects); or a foreign transaction even when processed end-to-end in USDollars (very common for many digital transactions and software stores based in tax haven countries, hard to notice before it posts). I've even gotten stuck with an FTF when buying physical goods from a US vendor that was listing on an ebay-like platform because they used a European escrow, even in USD. fwiw, BofA Travel Rewards, despite their wording, has let me apply points to non travel purchases. Dunno fluke or feature, shhh!
@@TheCreditFrog thanks for the reply! do you know if we can still get the Premium rewards travel credit by loading up the united airlines travelbank? i think i will drop the PR next year because I moved my assets from Merrill to Schwab.
@TheCreditFrog You did a good job being neutral. It was all the fine print terms that made either horrible. That is what folks need to hear though so job well done!
