A detail that wasn't in this video that I loved is a switch in Krauser's overall mission. In the OG was was a less interesting Wesker pawn than Ada with a cool knife and an "as you know" backstory. In the remake he has no ties to Wesker, and seems to actually believe in Los Iluminados' world domination plan, at least insofar as it empowers him personally. I also liked the switch to make him Leon's mentor as opposed to more of an equal, making their final fight feel like more of a final, brutal lesson.
I don't think he worked for Saddler because of the latter's ideals, but rather he saw Las Plagas as a means to gain more power for himself. He said that after his whole unit got killed in "the jungle", he realized nothing matters in the world than simply being strong. Because that's the only way to survive.
@@Sm0k3turt 😂🤣 aside from that great video i never played the og and every re games always scared me to my knees re4make still does but im glad i get to experience it👌
Remember when I said this video would be short? P.S I was wrong about some of the voice actors in this! Ashley is actually Genevieve Buechner and Ada is Lily Gao. I am aware of some of the editing mistakes and such. I wanted to fix them without re-uploading so I can keep this traction I am getting, but the in house RU-vid editor sucks so bad that I literally can't. Thanks RU-vid! I will Re-Upload later with a corrected version. But for now it will be like this. Sorry everyone! Hope you enjoyed anyway!
Honestly words can scarcely do justice how much of an improvement Ashley is in the Remake. OG Ashley is, like you said, fine but as a character basically nonexistent. Remake Ashley when she's taken especially in cutscenes (one point later in the game in particular) it genuinely feels awful and I feel awful *FOR* her. A+ Capcom, you took a character that could generously be described as "eh" and made her one of my favorites in the whole franchise.
Another aspect I actually really really liked about RE4 Ada is when she's talking to everyone but Leon, she's a little cold and distant. When she's talking to Leon, there's a little bit of playfulness in her voice, it's small sure but I really appreciate it.
@@Sm0k3turt Agreed, it threw me off at first but only because I hadn't realized the actor from RE2R didn't return. Other than that I thought Lily did great.
I didn't play any of this or any RE games. But of all I have seen, these remakes really look like they are made with tons of passion and really made by a team who wants to use the refined gaming technology of today to deliver on their ambitions of when they first made the games.
Based takes throughout this video. The OG RE4 was one of my favorite games ever from the moment I first played it on my GameCube. Needless to say, I was blown away by RE4R. Just about every aspect from the OG was improved upon. Better writing, characters, level design, combat, and overall scarier. Also the fact that they managed to keep the goofy over the top action vibes of the OG while somehow making it scarier and grounded is just astounding. The OG will always be nostalgic to me, but without a doubt this is the superior version imo
I always pictured re4 mercenaries Luis as him taking a final stand, he was just perfectly weak to the point where you were always on the edge during the fight
The original script of re4 was written in two weeks so the lack of characterization isn't shocking In re2 ada was also trying to manipulate leon however 6 years later leon had also met her again and alot more jaded meaning her manipulations wouldn't have worked so she dropped it
probably the best re essay video ive watched, im really blown away especially when you talked about ashley. no one ever wants to talk about the sexualization when it comes to female game characters. you described her improvements perfectly!!!!
Hell yeah! I worked with a female friend of mine to do that part justice as it also bugged me personally. She doesn’t have a social media for me to plug but she was a huge help for that segment! Thanks for watching!
The only thing I'm a bit annoyed is that Krauser's motivation towards Leon is still ...weird. Not only his characterisation feels quite similar to the bad guy from Infinite Darkness but also ...the amount of shit he put Leon through in the final fight is like he has a personal vendetta for Leon and yet the game didn't really tell you why.... the game included Operation Javier and yet didn't really state Krauser was also jealous of Leon during the mission ....not everyone played or knew Darkside Chronicles includes that mission.... But yeah RE 4 remake is sooooo good....I'm usually a backseat gamer when it comes to RE cause even though I like the game so much it just feels so terrifying but this one ...I just have to play it ...This Leon feels so much more convincing than the old re 4 and a wayyyy better bridge between re2 remake Leon and re 6 Leon... on top of it ...better story and cinematic scenes ...man the game is so much easier to follow now compared to the old one as the backseat gamer and feels so earned when you actually play it ! Also...Leon was the president's daughter LOOOOL Duly noted HAHAHAH
In one of the documents you can find, Salazar was actually dying from an illness at a young age. That was when Saddler and his cult came along and offered a solution with the use of the plaga. Which made more sense in the remake as it gave him a motive to do horrible things for the sake of survival and now in faith of his master.
@@Sm0k3turt dw about it. The same goes to Ada too, actually. Lily Gao was the voice for RE4R, not her RE2R actress Jolene Andersen. But Gao did play Ada in the Welcome to Racoon City movie
Honestly the remakes are so good at deepening the lore of the originals that they can really be considered the definitive versions of the games (If you wanted them to) and an older Ashley in the RE6 remake (If they keep this train going) would be absolutely welcome imo. I didnt care much for Helena so having Ashley be her replacement would be not too bad. Great video man!
"they can really be considered the definitive versions of the games" Fuck no, Watch Ruby of blue's videos about the remakes and a video titled "Resident evil 2 remake is garbage" and you will change your mind
@@Sm0k3turt This comment wasn't directed at you it's responding to OP about how these remakes should not be considered the definitive versions of these games
As much as I understand the ballistics comment being removed, I thought that Ashly responded well to it, having a moment to show that she was at least capable of standing up to a dude being rude. Also having a 2 by 4 thrown at you by sandy cheeks is something ill never get sick of lol
true, the scene is rewritten, I like it but the OG delivery just had more self confidence in her tone I suppose Edit: I do appreciate Luis being depicted better and less pervy for sure though
@@user-wk5vh5tk3q I just like that Ashley, A MINOR AND A COLLEGE STUDENT, actually acts like a college student instead of a busty love interest. I can understand liking old Ashley. She has a certain vibe that is very annoying but somehow charming. To each their own! Thanks for watching!
I've seen a lot of people calling out that Krauser "respected" Leon at the end by using his name, but Krauser doesn't respect him. He takes all credit for Leon getting as far as he did, and by doing so, devalues Leon's achievements and Leon himself.
Good video, but RE2:Remake and RE4:Remake are two different voice actresses, Lilly Gao was Ada in the live action version, "Welcome to Raccoon City," and did the motion capture for RE4:Remake and the voice over for the game. I like both versions of Ada, I like the Le Femme Nikita version from the 90's - 2000's and the current re-imaginings.
Just a couple things. Lily Gao did not voice Ada in RE2. And her performance left a lot to be desired. Nobody I know likes it. You heard about how she got bullied off the internet and now you’re trying to be the good guy saying “come on guys, it’s not bad!” No. It was bad.
Why is it bad? I respect being wrong about the voice actor but I don’t think she does a bad performance. But that is my opinion, so why do you think her performance is bad? I just think the internet hates women.
@@Sm0k3turt it’s bad because there’s no emotion behind her lines and it sounds like she’s reading them for the first time right off the script. Listen to Ada’s dialogue in RE2R or RE4. Ashley in RE4R. Mia Winters, Zoe Baker in RE7. Did the internet hate women with them? Or maybe, just maybe, this ONE voice actor had such a terrible performance that nearly everyone collectively hated it.
@Sm0keTheAlien Yeah I prefer og Luis 10 fold to remake it's the same with Ada. As for Luis, I found his personality, his role in the story, Voice (even tho it wasn't location accurate), and death way better. The only improvement was that they tied him in better to the lore and village.
28:)4 That's literally false. She was voice dby Jolene Andersen in RE2Remake and Lily Gao in RE4Remake. Also, you don't have to be a voice actor to criticize a poor performance. Just like you don't have to be a world renown chef to be able to say a plate of food sucks.
