Honestly I think it’s just from the fact that the brand has had a bad reputation with reliability and that model just so happens to be quite an undesirable design
My aunt's Liberty was the worst vehicle I've encountered in my life. Exceptions to everything. Also, how much money and work did it take to get to 200,000+ miles??
My grandfather owns a junkyard. Since demo derbies have been dying off now the popular event at the county fair is time trials in junk cars. One of his employees fixed up a junk liberty and it was impressive how well it held up to doing jumps and crashing.
As a long time owner of a 2.8 CRD I can say that they are excellent vehicles with plenty of torque and no issues. I have only needed to give it basic maintenance and drive it like a civilized human being. It gets incredible fuel economy compared to every other 4x4 on the trail, it is capable of 300 miles on one tank of diesel off road at slow speeds. I only need to fill it up every three weeks when I’m just commuting thanks to its large 25 gallon fuel tank. It has never leaked oil and before you say it’s because it’s a pavement princess, it hits the dirt once a week. The only issue I’ve ever had with it is the ball joints and U joint which I both replaced myself. As of now the greatest feat the little Libby has achieved is pulling a fully loaded tree trimming truck stuck in 1 foot of mud out of the front yard of my neighbors house.
I have a jeep liberty 2012, got it when it had (60k) miles and currently at (150k) has never let me down. I do change the oil every 3k miles, tune it up every 2 years and man it’s been a good car. I think sometimes people call it a bad car because they never took care of it. Just me.
Those v6 from that age are so easy to repair and last long as hell, highest mileage I seen where I work was 540k yes it did get head gasket replaced once but that was the only major repair it had
@jaimeleiva4865 the egr / fcv systems plug up these parts can only behad from the original manufacturer , timing systems overly complicated that can leak water ,diesel , oil or a mixture of the 3 and on top here in the US at least these parts are hard to come by and astronomically expensive, local stealership wants 14,324 dollars to order a long block .

Ooooooooh, bad take, TFL. A dealership near me actually started refusing to take any Liberty in on trade unless they intended to immediately ship it off to auction. They had a warranty program for all the used cars they sold, and they ended up losing money on every Liberty they sold.
I bought a 06 Liberty that had the rare 2.8L diesel engine for about $1,000. It wasn’t running so I thought it wouldn’t be too much to get it running. I was wrong 😂😂
The 42rle 4 speed auto is probably where the reputation comes from... But I feel like every automatic transmission from the 2000s has a reputation for breaking. The real problem is people not getting services done at manufacturers recommended intervals. People hardly keep up with their oil changes, of course they won't remember to get their transmission serviced every 100k miles.
I have a 06 liberty ever since i bought it. I've seen a crap load of them on the road again. I've never really seen them before. But i knew they existed. But now i see them EVERYWHERE I TURN MY HEAD 😂but i love them. Including mine. I paid. 1500, and picked er up with 94,910. Picked er up in December ❤
They are cheap to buy but tires cost the same for them as anything else and you still have to have good brakes Etc so by the time you do all that you're into it for a fair bit of money and then when the engine blows up like they always do you will be committed to it and end up badly upside down. Stay away from any Chrysler engine that ends in a .7.
I have a 2011 Jeep Liberty Limited and I love and hate it. It rides okay, the interior is nice for an older car and it's roomy enough to haul things or camp in. The problems I had to get fixed along the way was awful, the MPG sucks and for a car that takes that much gas, it is slow as hell with a 4 speed auto transmission. Not worth the money, because that $3-4k will turn into $8k pretty easily. Buy a fun car.
I have an 01 grand Cherokee with over 300k on it. I drive it everyday. Drove across country from Alabama to San Diego & back when it had 240k on it and it did great
I own a 3.6 RWD with ARP bumpers and a lift kit. This car is NOT meant for this shit 🤣 Owned it for 5 years and replace control arms once every 6 months, bushings constantly go out, and window regulators break twice a year. I dont even offroad, shes a show car and daily but damn if it aint a dog shit car
Dang it sounds like you’ve had straight bad luck with these guys I’ve had my 2.8 CRD since 2016 and it’s been great! Granted all but one of the window regulators have broken once but a quick trip to the junkyard and I got them all fixed for no more than $20 Ive replaced the radio with a junkyard special as well because of the famous volume knob failure. Mechanically the diesel is great but interior wise…….. it’s 2 tiers above 2024 ford interior build quality 😆
These old jeeps were actually pretty solid. Especially with a manual. Relastically its actually worth like 500 bucks considering the state if the interior. 2-3 grand for a filthy jeep? Nah mate.
@@alg003 What you want doesn't change its value. And remember, that's auction price he's talking about. You won't find anything better for $2K. If you think you will, you haven't looked at the market for a long, long time.
Natural oils on your skin have a tendency to eat that steering wheel though. My neighbour just bought a replacement because of that. Or he just excreted some toxic sweat.
I had one, my partner tboned someone in it. Then we bought a nissan worst mistake ever, cvt went after 3 months and now we own a Hyundai and everyone tells me that its going to break sooner rather than later
Jeep Cherokee from the 2000s yes Yeah we do not have those were I'm from the inside looked like that of a sub 2000s jeep Cherokee which we do have this side
lol truth. I remember driving one brand new and being bewildered how anyone could spend a single dollar on this over its competition. It drove like a ten year old rental car right off the showroom floor lol
