Fischer may or may not be the best player ever. However he is my favourite player of all time. For challenging the might of the Soviet school, and beating them at it. Not because I have any particular fondness for the then USA over the then USSR, but the fact that he did it alone (relative to the entire bevy of GMs assisting the Champion Spassky) Not ONLY that, he played a different opening/defence in every move of that WCship. Not only that, he absolutely pummeled the competition in the candidates tournament for this WCship. Was the best player in the world in form and rating. Look at the rating difference in his WCship match with Spassky. And because he (apart from maybe Tal) played only to WIN, and win convincingly. RIP, Robert James Fischer, for me you were, are and will always be the best.
Well, THAT’S a declaration of love. Quite a pity he didn’t challenge the might of the Sovjet school when that shy boy Karpov came to the scene. In my opinion, Fischer was plain scared of him. As he rightfully should, dishonouring the title of World Champion by not playing a single game after that Spassky match.
His avg accuracy 97,75%, even magnus accuracy 92%, he is exactly best chess player and he didn't lie when said that knows all possible position in chess

@@rpralica Would it have been 1972, I would agree, for the reasons you wrote. But 1975 is a different story. Fischer hadn’t played serious games for three years, he must have been quite rusty. He may have been well prepared, but you need to have felt not too long ago the tension of play, the coping with disappointment: three years is too long. And Karpov was really strong in 1975, like the way he played through the candidates matches, beating Spassky and Korchnoy, no slouches. And Karpov certainly would have been very well prepared, and eager to do battle: for this, his age, around 25, would have been perfect. And maybe quite importantly: Karpov’s way of playing was a bit different from the others, one could say he was the quiet killer. I’m not so sure Fischer would have been able to cope with that style. But, we will never know.
@@paulbloemen7256 I appreciate your opinion, but I still think that even in 1975 Fischer was not out of shape. I don't remember exactly, but I think that in 1975 he played with a chess computer and beat it smoothly (of course they were not as strong then as they are today). I am of the opinion that he would still be today stronger than Carlsen and the others. We should not forget who beat everyone in the candidate tournament and with what result. All of them were bigger players than Kappovs later.

6 to 0 against taimanov, 6 to 0 against larsen, 6,5 to 2,5 against former wc petrosian and then 12,5 to 8,5 (including 1 withdraw by fischer) against the wc spassky. By his own without a team like the rest … sorry but I don’t have seen carlsen doing this and he never will be … till this day fischer has the record us championship 11/0. as wesley so once said fischer was the stockfish of his generation. For me he is clearly the greatest player of all time. Playing engine moves back then without the help of engines or anyone! Nice choice of games by the way. I have watched many a RU-vidr present what is arguably the most famous game in chess history (arguably, because of Anderssen's Evergreen and Morphy's Opera House). But now we not only *see*, we also *hear* the sheer poetry of the thing. Well done, Sammy!
Ftr every Bobby Fischer game where he defeated every top gm during that time where all astonishing. But for me his best game are against tal and spassky in the world title
Indeed, Bobby Fischer was the very last "Lone World Beater" because all subsequent World Champions have led veritable teams of assistants. Instead, Bobby entered history alone and his schievements have never been equalled.
One cant compare chess players of different times. Considering the lack of support for chess in the west (vs soviet chess) and what sources Fisher had to use (vs computer chess today) his achievements are almost unbelievable. He had to learn Russian to get grip of their literature. Great players have dedication to chess in common. I compare Fishers will to win and dedication to that of Magnus Carlsen, but mentally Carlsen is far sounder. Also Aljechin belongs there, as he was able to fight his alcoholism to regain the wc title.
if he was playin and defeat anatoly karpov then he had a chance to be the greatest player ever. butt to resin to play karpov doesn't give fisher this title till the moment this title goes to Kasparov and we will see if carlsen will break it
I'm so tired of this. He was the best for 5 years only. And when Young Karpov appeared, Fischer was already mentally unstable and would surely LOST the championship match which he cleverly avoided. I really don't understand why so many people are still considering Fischer to be the GOAT! Chess is developing all the time, even now with the use of computers it's mucu more difficult to maintain the top position, because one has to play against new computer generated ideas. That's why for me Carlsen is much more impressive. But historically there can ge only one of the three; Lasker (a champion for 27 years, before the theory of endgames was even developed, he found study-like solutions at the board with a limited time), Kasparov (even more dominant than Fischer and for a much longer period of time) and Carlsen, of course, the rest can only be mentioned for some biased reasons (partiotic reason, personal taste...) Even Aljehin was more innovative than Fischer and lasted longer Thumbs DOWN

Had a discussion with some ppl who said he wouldn’t be that good in todays chess world. Kinda pisses me off because if he had the tools the players have nowadays he would be even more cracked. For me the goat! Nice video btw ❤

From a know-nothing about chess strategy - I am aware only of the moves - I commend the narrator for keeping the pace manageable, for explaining the consequences of one strategy versus its alternative, and for showing that even at this level, out-of-nowhere moves can come with blinding speed, the lion springing from the brush to snap the neck of the hyena. Referring to Fischer, Spassky could have paraphrased Vitas Gerulaitis who, after his humiliating defeat by Bjorn Borg at the 1979 Masters, said, “I was playing tennis. He was playing something else.”

Definitely the GOAT! All that he achieved and practically without any help from his native Chess Federation (like the one that all the Russians had at the time of Soviet Union, and without the help of super-powerful computers that tremendously help 21st century generation of players, such as Carlsen and the rest. And I say this while having enormous admiration for other chess giants such as Magnus, Kasparov, Karpov, Anand, not to mention Morphy, Lasker, Alehin, Capablanca, and others.
Great content, explaining each and every move, but no unnecessary mambo jumbo talking. Subscribed! Just one observation: I feel that you could talk just a bit slower, as it is a lot of moves directly one after the other and when there is more complexity in the positions it does get more difficult to follow without pausing the video. I reduced the playback speed and it helps a little but it feels a bit unnatural. But, otherwise great, keep it up!

The best chess player ever: Magnus Carlsen, of course. Wake up, Fischer lovers, Fischer was a great player, but he refused to play Karpov in a match he probably would have lost, and hey, his days were more than 50 years ago, quite some developments unknown to Fischer happened since then. Calling Fischer the best chess player ever is like calling the Empire State Building the tallest building in the world.
It was a question not a statement, it doesn't take away from how amazing he was for his time. Magnus is still alive and doesn't need this type of validation. RU-vidrs like Sammy just honor his memory

By any objective investigation, that is utter BS.
@@aventura8491 A “best player ever” doesn’t run away in an important tournament where he is leading (Sousse). A “best player ever” doesn’t refuse to play a match against a very strong opponent (Karpov). A “best player ever” doesn’t refuse to play any games in the period in which he is world champion. Because he didn’t play for three years, I guess (guess…) that his chess became rusty to say the least, so yes, I think Karpov would have beaten Fischer in 1975. As I said, Fischer was a great player around 1970-1972, but that’s it. Karpov, Kasparov, and right now Carlsen are much more worthy of the term “best player ever”, right now it is Carlsen, still going strong, showing amazing stuff. All these three players dominated the chess scene in a worthy way in their period, Fischer was just a huge disappointment in this respect. By the way, I don’t parrot anybody, I don’t read that kind of stuff, I just answered a question, mildly irritated by those Fischer worshippers that don’t see the facts as they are when considering someone “the best ever”. And, to mention it for the third time, yes, Fischer was a great player. Period.
@@aventura8491 Well, an invisible world champion really cannot be the best player ever. There are plenty of super world champions that showed their supremacy abundantly, fully deserving that accolade that Fischer does not deserve. But he was a great player.
