Hi Rubidium, thanks so much for this video. For someone like me, jumping over the world from Moscow to Sydney, then to NYC and back to Sydney now it's so interesting. I first moved to Sydney hoping to put roots there because my partner had a job here also. I've always wanted to be in NYC though and decided to give it a try after a while. Moved to NYC..realized it's so far from the life I wanted to live. Expected it to be more like Sydney CBD but 1000 bigger, wanted to live there, but in fact, truth be told if you're not living in out of this world expensive areas like Soho for ex. this city is far behind Moscow. Maybe I'm getting older but for me job is first, but the quality of life matters also. I'm not in my 20s and living in a basement without windows is not fun anymore, I don't really have another 10 years to build a career there, have kids and a place to live. Moved back to Sydney. Feels so much better! But..feels very boring. There is still top level DP's and directors here, but very few (some of them begging for videography work when it's a low season - it's almost always low season in AUS, hehe) almost no middle layer and huge population of "let me do this job for nothing" guys working 9-5, living in 2m dollar AUS real estates and having "fun" with their Alexa's on weekends when bbq is unavailable ;) Came to conclusion even though AUS is superb country for living, having family, etc. it's not the country you move to for a filmmaking job. Either stay in your home country or move to the US, that's sadly I said to myself. Long read, sorry

What about Albuquerque, New Mexico? ABQ is slowly becoming a significant filmmaking city in the United States, home of Netlix and now NBC Universal.

I think of nyc as the indie narrative/doc place to be. I've heard from friends that tried LA, EVERYONE is in or trying to get into the business and I like meeting non industry ppl in nyc. I'm curious about Vancouver and if they have a decent post production field there.

Awesome stuff, Rubidium! I am kind of at the beginning of a very similar journey myself. As a side question off of your story, how did you manage to get a greencard, did you work for a production company or something? Thank you very much for your advice!

Thank you for the video! What do you think about Post Production facilities in LA / NewYork. Which city will be the right choice for working? I’m a sound designer. Thank u again :)

Hey, thanks for the video. If you don’t mind me asking, how old were you when you moved? Was moving back to LA like restarting connections wise, or could you pick up with the people you knew?

What are your thoughts on the film scenes in places like Atlanta and Canada?

The problem for me is moving to US from Central Europe I studies film studies and being 23 years old I only have three short films made (working on 4th). There is nothing for which I should get visa in US and I certainly don't wanna be there without them. What can I do godamit

Id say making films is the dream. but not realistic. id say weddings is the best gateway to following your dreams. move to a city where you can do weddings, make a lot of money then make films!

I drove 2700 miles for five days to move to LA a month ago. Came from Virginia and have watched you for a while. If I can ever help or work with you, let me know. This is my channel where you can see a lot of my work and my social media and email are on my channel page. I'll work for free if we can help each other's channels and I can get experience.
