Cub Cadet zero turn. I bought the domestic version with a steering wheel last October from a great local company, in North Devon, sadly no more, you may have heard of them. Excellent mower, tough, stable on slopes, cuts long grass, really good finish on short grass. Change over from Side discharge to mulch takes moments.

I mow my property with a 400D grasshopper 72 inch I previously had a grasshopper 428D given to me by my dad it’s a 2001 model and still runs and mows prefect has almost 11000 hours on it

They all performed pretty well. The most impressive mower I've used was a Bobcat bank mower. It was an 80's machine, with a 72inch deck, with independent steering and was walk behind, extremely heavy, but easy to use. It absolutely destroyed everything in front of it! Great machine!!

Very good comparison guys, I actually have the Ariens Apex and have enjoyed it the past 2 seasons. When I decided to purchase it there was a toss-up between it and the Hustler, both performed well. I have a Dixie Chopper zero turn in my shop for a belt replace. It's advertised as the worlds fastest ZT..... they aren't kidding, its very fast.

The Ariens is a great mower and very well made. I’ve never used a Dixie Chopper but hopefully will soon, but it will be in a different colour 😉

I have had 3 Grasshoppers, and they are bulletproof! I maintain a 40 acre spread with mine. My 2nd choice would be Ferris.

The rear discharge deck was proven in the grasses of the UK when it was developed. If it works there, it must work everywhere.

I've been looking at zero turns and having rear discharge seems like a very overlooked feature depending on what kind of work you do. As you showed going around beds and stuff like that you won't blow a bunch of clippings into them or have to go round the lawn a particular way and it leaves the best finish.

Hi James + Josh, on this weeks addition of Top Mower, James drives a mower and Josh drives another mower. To be honest I would not be disappointed with any of them, but I like the Toro and Kubota. That grasshopper looks like it is from the 60s. My Toro Titan didn’t cut low enough (32mm was the lowest, I think), so something to bear in mind when shopping.

Great video. There is all good kit tbf at the caravan park where I work We use a toro groundsmaster it's good but can get tight between the caravans the tighter ones we use our john deere x750

I love a zero turn. Miss my turf tiger with a boat engine in it. Definitely missing a few big brands scag/Ferris/bobcat/ club cadet but the one i would of liked to have seen the most is the cramer 82zt132 up against its petrol borthers. Also didnt expect the Kubota to have a Kawasaki engine in it. Cracking video lads 👌

No Scag? I'm struggling to decide on your question. For me personally I'd be really tempted by that Grasshopper for jobs where a smaller machine is required (which is often a lot) but for big industrial jobs I think I'd go for the Hustler. If a certain ex colleague were here he would be laughing and calling me, "Fan boy" again as I learned zero turn on a Hustler and I've liked them ever since, though that Toro is... Ugh, I can't make my mind up, if money were no obstacle..

best zero turn, my older Toro with 4 cylinder diesel, 2nd best is the Bad Boy we just bought with a Perkins diesel - both will cut through anything wet or dry and both will out live me, the Toro we bought years ago from city auction and outside of a battery and a few belts plus grease and oil changes runs perfect. The toro has 17 grease fittings which means fewer parts to replace.

I have a Toro. Not near as nice as that one but it’s like 15 years old and I cut my yard today. Still cuts like a dream. Mine is a Time Cutter. Been a really good mower. In 15 years I have replace the starter once and the battery several times and solenoid twice. Also required once this year. No motor issues with a Kawasaki 24 horse engine. I would not be scared to buy another Toro. I don’t cut commercially. Just my two properties. I forgot belts and blades also. But that’s to be expected. Kid you cut in a wet area it will get stuck also. Maybe all will.

Good review. I’d like to see a review of them with the mulch kit on and how good of a finish they leave. You could do that with stand on mowers.

I’d of never looked at the grasshopper mower if I didn’t watch this video. It looked to have a really good finish with that deck. Not much grasshopper dealers up here in Cumbria yet though.

I have a Kubota I bought in 2018. Bullet proof. It came with wider and larger tires than the one you tested. You probably should have given some specs about these machines, such as the HP their engines have, the type of transmissions they each have, how heavy gauge of a deck each have. I heard you give a couple of deck specs but not all of them.

I have a pro Z100 Cub Cadet I only had engine issues and drive belt issues due to oil leaks but the caster wheel on the front left is wore out because the grease fitting popped off but before i had it the mower needed deck work it has well over 800 hours.

An adjustable cupholder and a USB charging port would seal the deal for me. But something you guys missed out... Speaking as an exgreenkeeper that always had a wet arse, it is a seat that performs well in the wet!

grasshopper introduced the zero-turn front mount in the 1960's they did not add the mid-mount until much later. other companies introduced the mid-mount and did not make front mounts. the exception is John Deere commercial mowers.

I use exmark/toro cant beat the warranty you get what you pay for. Always wanted to try out grasshopper they just look like a solid mower that stuck with what worked kinda like the brown.

I have the Exmark Lazer Z 52". 8 years old, never needed any warranty work. Regular maintenance only. My neighbor has a new Bad Boy 54" cut with the same engine, same hydro motors, but paid 3k less than a new Exmark. If I ever wear the Lazer Z out, I may try the Bad Boy for the price difference.

@@kenny-tu2bu Never knew bad boy had parker unitized pumps with a 2500 hr warranty like exmark. I always thought bad boy had hydrogears like on the radius and z master 2000/4000.

Appreciate this video cause of the rawness of it but the pricing range is too high. I would not spend and could not afford a 7-10 thousand dollars on a mower unless of course if I had a lawn business. So maybe doing another video with the range of 3-5 thousand dollars of zero turn mowers, like from big box stores like lowe's, home depot, and tractor supply. Thank you ahead of time if u do.

SCAG and Cub Cadet missing, other than that for the UK market at least you have the best of the bunch outside of battery versions like Mean Green. I'd probably go for the Kubota and with the money saved opt into a 3-5 year service plan and lots of spare blades :D

To be honest if I was looking at spending the amount the Toro costs , I'd more likely buy a new BX series Kubota with a 60" mid mount deck and 3 cylinder diesel.

Wright manufacturing makes the best commercial mowers hands down and customer service second to none. The Arens and the Kubota are not what I would consider commercial duty mowers .

Instead of Speed measuring the area covered in a given time might be more useful. That would tell you how much time you need to cover a acre for example since it takes into account the width of the machine, I.e. how many rows you have to drive for a given area.

Yeah , lots of different test we could do. But that would also depend how long/tall/think your grass is. And no doubt sometime would moan we didn’t do the test the way they see it 👍🏼

I like my battery gear, but it’s obvious that battery energy density is an issue with not one manufacturer putting one up … however, it’s about time the ICE manufacturers went direct fuel injection and catalytic converters for pollution and the health of the driver.
