You didn't overguess - there are 12 of the Convoke instants; and 5 are at common and 4 at uncommon; and their basically all good, yea it's a lot

Just got back from pre-release! What a great set. I did blue/white knights &flyers. Went 3-1-1 super fun set.The 2/2 flyer that brings in the 1/1 elemental in blue is crazy strong. Especially with convoke.

did my first Friday night magic with MoM boosters (we did 6 packs all to ourselves, vs 3 we pass around) and overall it was great. Didn't win anything big LOL but, oh man. I had a BLAST and battles are pretty cool.

my prerelease went great, got a nice value Atraxa and then 3-0'd by not playing her, instead i had a sweet RB deck with all the right payoffs: Stormclaw Rager, Ayara, even Juri Master of the Revue (card is great in the deck btw)

I've had the pleasure to find Quintorius in my pretense pack, and oh boy, he's good! Not a bomb, but quite the threat nonetheless, especially when you can rebuy your removals and battles.

I just got back from prerelease and gotta say that battles are really cool. I went 4-0 with a 5 battle 4 color deck and Thalia and Gitrog were probably my best card and second best card in the entire set (after the backup angel).

Not sure what game you are playing if you think that card is awful for Limited. I would bet my house that my pick will have a higher win rate when we have the data.

Did two good prerelease weirdly went 3-0 with a wubrg deck and then 3-0 with a Golgari deck was fun cant wait for more games on Saturday.

Another nice thing about the Cryptomancer is that it leaves behind a body to convoke and sacrifice with, a lot like the 1 mana berserker

Spellspear was an insane all star at pre release went 8-2 for a 4-1 over record and it was mvp most of the wins in a control deck.

So I actually like that they made a lot of convoke instants. If it was only one it would be terrible playing a guessing game on if they have it or not. However, because there’s a bunch it’s now a part of the format, not just a niche “gotcha” moment.

I like that they're (somewhat) split between colors. There's 5 at Common and 4 at Uncommon, but Blue and Red both have 3, meaning UR has 6 of them. And Green has none.

Did the prerelease, I already love this set. Ran a White Red deck splashing Black. Opened a Sheoldred, a Rampaging Raptor, a Yorion, a Kroxa and Kuneros, and 2 Etalis. Had 4 premium removal spells, as well as some other pretty good removal spells, and some fairly efficient creatures. It’s probably the strongest limited deck I’ve ever made, went 3-0 and it wasn’t even close. Deck was very fun.

It would have been nice if some, or most, of the convoke instants had a clause that if you tap creatures to help pay the cost then the spell can only be cast at sorcery speed.
