Hi, Ive always loved beer. From European travel and being middle class. I don't have any hipster mates from London to talk to about beer. My friends always thought I was a snob for refusing there beers and banging on about the good beers they could be drinking. Thanks for making me feel at home.
I highly recommend U Bulovky, next trip. Undistinguished-looking place in unfashionable Liben, but wonderful beers brewed on the premises, and the best goulash I had on that trip.
Very cool video flick. I am not a fan of IPA's. Here in Texas there are literally hundreds of craft brewed ales and IPA's. They run the gamut of undrinkable to crappy but tolerable. Going to Prague craft ales and IPA's would be the last thing I think about. Were I in Prague, the number one joint I'd hit is U Flecku as recommended by Michael Jackson in his book "The World Guide to Beer". I was smitten with Czech lagers after that book back in the 70's. To this day my two favorite lagers are Czech. Pilsner Urquell and Budvar. I also have a love for German lagers as well but if I could only drink 2 lagers for the rest of my life they would be the aforementioned Czech lagers. Mahalo y'all!
Great video! This really makes me miss back to Prague, where I went before the corona pandemic every year. There you will find new breweries and beers every time. Czech lagers are superb and famous of course, but one thing that cannot be praise too much is the Czech IPA's. The Czech malt base gives them their own feel and even the Double IPA's are very drinkable, smooth and tasty. The best beers and breweries not featured in this video are Chroust Helena Double IPA, Matuska Tropical Rocket, Matuska Hellcat Imperial IPA, Clock No Idols Double / Triple Ipa, Zichovec 17 Simcoe, Bad Flash, Lucky Bastard etc..By the way Maly/Velky where you visited is one few Czech shops supplying beers throughout the EU. So it is possible for you to order beer from small breweries in the Czech Republic as well.
Spent a week in Prague in September , right before the lockdown, so happy I did that. City was empty. Charles bridge was empty, crazy. Gave me the opportunity to visit districts of Vinohrady and Zizkow, so great for pubs and beer. Uneticky was being offered everywhere, same with Vinohrady pivo. 2 great pale lagers. Lokal pub has many new spots, beer is always spot on and food is different at each location, Grandmas food. Also great matuska pub in Karlin district, fresh craft beer and a big patio.Pub is Dva Kohouti (2 cocks, lol)
Fantastic video. My wife and I had a brilliant time in Prague last November, we went to a couple of the bars featured and can heartedly recommend going to Prague for a great holiday and wonderful beer.
I'm off to Prague next week so delved into your archives to find this video - very useful, will definitely be checking as many of these out as I can 😁 cheers guys 🍻
Michael Dimaline mate I’ve been fortunate enough to go 8 times take a look at the places I’ve recommended all micro breweries, two right in old quarter one short trip 22tram all have web sites and you can locate on google maps and ask locals
Hey guys, I live here. I like the video, particularly for highlighting Illegal - the owners are so nice. A few more: Bad Flash (two locations), Zly Casy (28 taps in 3 bars, very Czech), Vinohradsky Pivovar (my fav. Czech-style brewery) and Base Camp (hundreds of Czech craft beer bottles)
I kinda wish I had seen this before I was in Prague last December. Still great video, hopefully I can go back sometime and make full use of it! I recognize the brewery on the hill and the green and white van that's parked there. It says "Antidepressant" on the side, which is apparently the name of an "autumn dark ale" they make. :D
Cheers from Tampa, FL! Another awesome look at Prague. My great-grandmother immigrated from Czechoslovakia so I love seeing anything I can about the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Prague is definitely on my bucket list, especially beer bucket list. Also, I just supported you guys on Patreon! Looking forward to all the great videos you guys will make this year! If you ever get over to the states again, I'd recommend checking out Florida. We have a huge craft beer scene where everyone is specializing in sours, especially the "Florida Weisse".
Illegal Beer is amazing! The orange ipa almost drove me to tears :-) craft house maybe 5mins away a must too, but further out of town Beertime is awesome too but more a summery place as lots of open air space
Hey guys you guys are great. Hopefully I can see more of your guys to shows please show me some more shows I prescribed for you guys so hopefully you guys can show more of you guys is Amazing Adventures
All great pubs, but if you want something really different and quirky and off the beaten track, try the Zizkov area of Prague. So many wonderful little bars.
Man, really? You don't leave A 'Lokal pub' in Prague without eating one of their amazing dishes. The Pilsner Urquell on tap is the best pils in the world but still Czech cuisine, dishes elevatesit to another level.
So... You visited Prague :D. You should plan your next trip to Poland! If you think, that you've seen a lot of craft beers in Czech Republic, in Poland you'll be amazed. Start planning guys :D!
Poland's craft beer scene is booming but the pubs are looking so bad in terms of atmosphere, hipster, minimalistic, uncomfortable. At least here in Wroclaw. Need more old school pubs to come back, wood, brick, comfortable places. Even managers of these craft beer pubs agree.
Haha - well that just goes to show how amazing a place it is to drink! We chose based on local recommendation, whittled it down by the vibe and beer list, then tried to keep to lesser known places. No slight on the other great bars.
Absolutely stunning to miss Zly Casy, which was the first and remains the best in Prague. Kulovy Blesk, Tramvaj, U Prince Miroslava all of the same ilk, and have been doing this for a decade unlike these new hipster places. Very poorly researched video.
Next time in Prague try beer galery Base Camp at Hradčanská. It's near Prague Castle and they have over 500 different beers especially from czech microbreweries.
You guys misst us. The first craft beer pub that is a craft beer brewery pub. Hangar Pub. Jireckova 15. come and check it out. just a block from Letenske Namesti.
I love your videos. I honestly think about to become a patreon of it. I hope you will come to Prague again and then I will show you a nice micro brewery.
@@TheCraftBeerChannel The name is Pivovar U Medvídků (umedvidku.cz/en/brewery/). You need to try X-Beer 33 (12.6%). That is the strongest beer I have ever tasted.
Thanks for the bar recommendations from a few weeks ago for our Prague trip; went to all of them and a few others, great to see the video. Maly/Velky was the standout bar, the Saison D'Aviron from Lobik from there the standout beer for me. Cheers!
Guys, I enjoyed watching my city to be explored by beer geeks. Next time, maybe we'll meet at Napalmě bar, one of the oldest authentic craft pubs in the city. Let me pour you a šnyt from Unětické 12° and then serve you some pickled cheese or smoked tongue. Take care! Extra tip: next time in CZE, make sure to try Sibeeria Lollihop WC IPA (which is sadly not made that often!) and their other stuff + Zichovec and Černý Potoka beers :-) For another great lager experience, near to Lokál Dlouhááá you visited, there's a small, authentic pub with Hostomické pivo, making 10°, 12° and 14° Dark lager :-)
@@TheCraftBeerChannel Understood. I also realized, after the comment, that Illegal Beer and Malý/Velký are both gone. Falkon brewery is still working well and is actually available in the location of Napalmě, which I mentioned.

When you were there? The crowndess looks bearable compared to times I've been there.
Cool video. Didn't you visited the Radegast brewery? I went there in 2004. I tried some good beer. Can't remember what kind, but sadly that beer isn't available in the Netherlands. Btw you should go to the netherlands. In Amsterdam there are some real nice places to visit.
We didn't! In fact, I am not sure we've ever had Radegast. We've been to the Netherlands a few times though - without filming - and really enjoyed the pub scene of Amsterdam. A lovely Belgian pub feel and some fantastic local beer.

I am happy you have enjoyed the Prague. Next time do not miss Golden Tiger, best Pilsner Urquel in the city. For craft beer go to Diego Beer Bar and Pivovarsky klub (Brewery club). And there is many more.
What makes some Pilsner Urquel better than some others in your opinion? :-o

@@77Fortran It makes difference how you handle the beer, how you tap it, how you store it. You have to keep oxygen away from it. And the atmosphere of the pub is important as well. The same beer can taste differently in different pubs. The golden tiger is old pub in old part of the city. Really worth try it.
I went here in 2019 for my 30th bday present. Was awesome. I know it's not ever going to taste the same outside of Prague, but.....is there anywhere in London that has good Czech lager?
Bohemian brewery make pretty food versions though are a little inconsistent. Manchester Union do the same (but in manchester). I believe the White Horse in Parsons Green still does tank fresh beer, as does Duck & Rice.
Cheers! We use a Canon 70D, Sigma 18-30mm 1.8, Rode video mic plus and Rode lavalier mics when things get rowdy. A couple of shots are on our phones too - worrying they are hard to spot!
Hey mate. As a Prague bartender, I can say that few of featured places (Lokál, U sumavy, U Fleků) are made to remember the "old times". Back in the days the pubs were full of cigarette smoke and chatter. There was not that big selection like is now (which is the best thing...) and that's pretty much it. I like how the CBS guys are excited about the staff bringing another beer without asking for it - that's pretty natural. Those Czech lagers are drinkable af and you don't want to see the sad empty glass on your table. Hit me next time when you come to Prague - I'll invite you for some classics and craft around the town (and show you the AUTHENTIC pubs which are still there since the mentioned era...).
I learned very little about the independent beer scene or variety of Prague but a lot about how much you enjoyed your trip there. Patreon? I don't think so. We haven't bonded yet.
great video as always, Czech Rep is still on my to do beer list but first must come Belgium, I live in Bayern so no need for any more Augustiner(its shit). Done a lot of other countries including Russia but Czech has such a rich history. Sorry off topic.. On my way home tonight I was drinking a collab with Yeastie Boys and Lervig (IPA with green tea) and I was thinking just which industries do major players get together to produce something which may or may not be better than the core products each sell, I am in love with the concept and there really have been some amazing beers produced (still waiting for the follow up Gin n Tonic beer from whats brewing) but can you imagine Samsung and Apple saying.. hey lets just for fun work together and make a one off smart phone which takes all the cool stuff from both of us to make something better. Why can breweries put aside the whole concept of competitive competition but not others.. make beer not war :-)
Well this is a deep question! But it boils down to the fact that if Apple/Samsung did it, they would have to share profits (so get less) and technology (which they fiercely guard). Breweries do it to share information and technique, because the industry is still in a phase of "rising tides float all ships" and most brewers know each other so it's fun. However, the main reason breweries do collabs is because it is brilliant marketing for them. They ride on each other's coat tails when trying to break into a market - they get their name out without risking a lot of beer going unsold and stale. You can see in the States that collaboration is getting more and more uncommon, and also some breweries turning on each other as it moves into the net phase of growth and competition. It's a tricky time for a growing artisan industry and I really hope they keep their friendly, collaborative attitude overall.
I think the list is great but I would definitely add at least two places: Zlý časy in Nusle district, which was one of the first craft beer places in Prague, it is a three-storey pub with different selection of beers on each floor. It has also very different atmosphere and setting than you would expect in typical hip craft beer place. The second place I would recommend is newly opened pub Dva Kohouti in Karlin district, which is the first pub run by probably the best Czech craft brewery Matuška. It’s also interesting concept because it is simultaneously a pub and brewery in the same setting an the design of the place is very technical and interesting.
@@TheCraftBeerChannel well - Ale Bar, Diego, Na Palme, Gulden Draak Bierhuis, Pivni Rozmanitost (but this more like bottle shop but with great selection of Czech craft and prices), BeerGeek Bar....
guys i know's it petty but really hate the music in general and with earbuds in it was too loud. I was having to turn down the volume when there was music and turn the volume back up when you were talking.
