The Best Daily Driver in 2024 is a TRUCK! Why?????

The electric Ford Lightning truck is, in my opinion, the best daily driver for Dads in 2024. Not necessarily because it is electric, but more so because of what Electric allows it to do.
1. MEGA Frunk, huge storage space.
2. Always available empty bed space for easy use.
3. Quiet, smooth, and wildly fast all at the same time.
What do you think, is this the perfect daily? If not - What do you think it is? Tell me in the comments below.

Frunk is amazing. Love our Lariat Lightning. We’ve driven only electric since 2013. Our Tesla is 11.5 years old and has 90% original range all these years later.

That's amazing on the range holding so long!

This is on my short list. I need a daily driver, for my 32 mile roundtrip commute to work, and weekend errands. Already have Level 2 chargers in the garage.

Thanks for your review! I like all the power outlets and the fact it’s a truck!

Much appreciated! The outlets are actually great in practice as well, just a practical win.

My lightning is my mom car. I live in the country, I need to haul lumber, sometimes branches and tree limbs, and I need to do truck things since I’m a stay at home mom of 2. Tow our mower to get its oil change. The Frunk is amazing for groceries and target/sams runs. The ride is way more comfortable than my husband’s 2024 Expedition. And it’s hella fast, no one expects it.
@themanreview
@themanreview 14 дней назад
Definitely smoother than the expedition which is really odd in a way - Agree it's fast!

Got one and 100% agree, as long as your bo hauling 30ft campers, this is the most comfortable and enjoyable truck ever made… i love that Cadillac type suspension
@themanreview
@themanreview 21 день назад
Definitely not hauling campers far, but a 1500 isn't the tool for a big camper anyway - Cadillac suspension I agree with!

Hey, No beeping when opening the frunk! I own the 2023 xlt lightning and also love it. Like that color of the truck.
@themanreview
@themanreview 2 месяца назад
It definitely seems to beep less than the first Lightning I had, that one was loud beeps and 30 seconds up or down seemingly... Thanks on the color! Enjoy yours my friend!

Nice walk through! Loving my ER Lariat. Replaced a Toyota Sequoia. BTW, what’s the info on the water bottle holder and will it hold a e32oz Nalgene bottle?
@themanreview
@themanreview 2 месяца назад
Congrarts on your ER! The water bottle holder is a "car-cup holder expander-adapter" That I got off Amazon. It holds my 40oz flip tops so should almost definitely hold the Nalgene. It's really a cool little accessory, side holes allow you to put in a coffee mug with handle as well.

Only downside on mine (got the 2023, lightning lariat) is the turn radius.. one day, I’ll get use to it.

I haven't found it to be terrible but they are pretty long trucks in general so that makes sense. Won't be long and all full size trucks will have 4 wheel steer as an option to shrink turning ratios assuming the cyber truck steering proves likable and reliable.

It does look good, does electric or conventional matter. Depends on the users requirements, for me I generally keep my cars for donkeys years , even decades , I have a 30 year old Lexus , my last ford did 17 years hard service as family taxi and tow vehicle. I wore the body out before the mechanicals , it still ran like beauty the day I retired it . I have nothing against electric , but I’m sceptical they will go the distance. That’s just me though , as long as you are happy with it, that’s all that matters. All the best to you mate.

Agree on being skeptical about longevity with these, you are spot on there. That Lexus though may last until the end of time, it's amazing!

Our XLT did NOT come with a charger/adapter. They apparently stopped that in 2023 :/ Truck is great, wouldn't give it up. Just wish Ford would be better with software and service.

Amen to both with Ford, some dealers literally loathe the EV line in my personal experience. I've heard a service guy refer to my Lightning as an "abomination".

thanks for this review.. I have test driven a PB Lariat .. speaking of the transmission.. I think any transmission performs according to the driver.. I have a 2016 Chrysler 200 with the 9 speed.. many, many people have complained about this trans.. for mpg's if you modulate the accelerator you can get into 4the gear quickly then gain speed (5th is direct) the ONLY issue I have with it is going down hill if you even touch the brakes it will start down shifting to slow down.. does not have manual mode and sometimes you have to shift in to neutral. Again driving style makes a huge difference!0
@themanreview
@themanreview 2 месяца назад
I had a PB Lariat when they first came out and it was a great truck. The thing with Lightning being a single speed essentially is there is no shifting to notice, which is really nice in practice. The downhill thought is like a parachute when one pedal driving is turned on with the region brakes.

Truck in the video isn't a '24.
@themanreview
@themanreview 14 дней назад
It is indeed a '23, but to be fair I said the best daily driver in 2024 and the difference is essentially zero for a lightning in model years (heat pump, etc..)

What’s the longest trip you’ve taken it on so far?
@themanreview
@themanreview Месяц назад
About 260 miles or so in one day, not just a single destination but a lot of back and forth. In my opinion road tripping in any electric vehicle is a last resort option, charging takes far too long and is just generally inconvenient (even with Teslas infrastructure that usually works). We use my wife's vehicle for any road trip.

@@themanreview I appreciate your best daily driver review. We routinely travel between southern GA and SD for business purposes. This year we ditched the ICE F250 for those long haul trips with the Silverado EV RST. I absolutely have no gripes about the F150 lightning and will not bash it as it is a worthy choice to buy. I have an entirely different view about taking road trips with any electric vehicle. We are in our late 50's and bio breaks are a real thing on these road trips. Charging stops are set to natural breaks so the time to charge is also lessened as we find the sweet spot between 30% to 70% adapts very nicely to the schedule we have set. The built in NAV software works very well keeping us on pace and choosing stops with amenities The DCF charging infrastructure in 2024 has vastly improved reliability to the point that charger anxiety has not come up. It would be nice if level 2 destination charging infrastructure would improve. In the real world savings road trip cost has come down about 30% since switching to pure BEV and learning the CPO pricing along the way. The comfort gained with switching from the ICE F250 alone makes the BEV a better choice for road tripping.

I went to my local Ford dealer and asked how many mechanics they have on hand that are EV certified. They just laughed at me. I have YET to see a F150 Lightning here in the Nebraska Sandhills. Might be OK for the "manbun" city types, not for real farmers and ranchers.
@VegasGuy1975
@VegasGuy1975 10 дней назад
Might want to tell that to the rancher down the road. Runs a sizable farm and ranch. His daily driver is a 2022 Lightning. Says he loves it and does everything he needs it to do. He’s 70 something years old and no man bun. Now I don’t know if I want or need a lightning but I do know there’s a lot of things it’s perfectly good for. For now I am keeping my F250.

Most Ford dealers I have been to locally don't like anything hybrid or electric either, but they don't need much maintenance so it's a push unless something goes wrong warranty wise.

It does, same length as a normal F-150

Is your garage 20ft long? If so, do you park it in the garage everyday?
@themanreview
@themanreview 2 месяца назад
It's actually 24ft deep, so I do park in it every day. I do realize though that it's an abnormally large garage, one reason we liked this house.
