This is the best debit card of 2023, period. The Charles Schwab High Yield Investor Checking Account. I have had my account for 6 years now and it’s my go to card when it comes to accessing my cash, especially while traveling. The account has next to no fees, it’s the perfect set it and forget account out there. The only downside is the “High Yield” naming, at .4% APY it is very much not high yield in any sense. I would recommend you use this card as a staging card for cash access. Bank with any banks of your choosing especially given some of the attractive APYs out there. But load money to Schwab Debit when you’re planning to travel.

Yeah, if you ever need cash, you need the Charles Schwab debit card. The ATM fees in Vegas on The Strip are up to $10. It’s amazing to know I’ll get it refunded every time.

Citibank is better worldwide. I am a 10+ year Expat and already filled multiple passports. They have zero ATM fees worldwide at Citibank ATM's (I have seen them in almost every country I have been to) and they also reimburse the ATM fees off network every 30 days if you can't find one. Also zero foreign transaction fees. The issue I had with Charles Swabb is they acted funny about me being an expat and eventually limited my account and cut my debit card off. I could only wire and ACH in and out. Thats some bullshit when you are in a foreign country.

some credit unions have debit cards that are points earners, but it's like spend $4 get 1 point, and each point is only worth 1 cent for redemption on their travel portals and sometimes less for their gift cards. We have that, and I used to use this a lot... before I knew better. Also, those same credit unions, if you get a car loan, or mortgage through them, you get a ton more points... and those points can go toward lowering future loan interest rates. We have a car loan that is 2% because we redeemed like 10K-20k of their points. lol.

One important thing to notice about deposing check with them, you are considered a new account for up to 6 months. Witch means it will take 5-10 business day to process your check, they will make a small portion available, i think 250 but it’s very annoying. Still i like the card and customer service has been decent, so i will stick it out.

Great Video! I have been using this card for some time now as a "staging account." The only caveat I would add is that you need to allow yourself some extra time, as the funds take a bit of time to become available. The transfer processes the next business day and then you have to wait up to four additional business day to use the funds. ("Funds originating from an ACH transfer from your Other Account will be available no later than the fourth Business Day after the day of your deposit.")

Push instead of pull. What do I mean by that? Instead of transferring money from Schwab online checking account. You instead go to your source online account (lets say Wells Fargo), and you add your Schwab account in it. It takes few days to verify. Once verified, push the money you want to transfer from Wells Fargo. Bam, that 4 days will disappear.

I've got a high yield savings account where I park a majority of my money. My credit union is still paying a measly .1% interest on their savings so it's time to move all money from those accounts. Since TD Ameritrade was bought out by Schwab, all my investments will be moved over. I figure now is the time to close the credit union and finally be done with them.
@RespectfullyCurious
@RespectfullyCurious Год назад
I recommend exploring other options. My credit union is usually on par with most of the big names in terms of high yield savings. I keep "just in case" money there. I recommend looking into online savings accounts like Marcus by Goldman, Ally, and Capital One. Alternatively, what I also do is throw money into a money market fund within Schwab and it yields higher interest than pretty much every HYSA I've seen so far.

Ok, Prepaid Debit Cards are so bad that's why you have to have a good credit score on a normal scale to access your money through a Credit Card. Also, Credit Cards can be frauded just like Prepaid Debit Cards can be frauded. It's all about not falling for tricks from people or entities that you do not know whether it be an app or a call. Benefits? Ok, Cherry on top of the cake. You are still paying something to get those benefits just like everything or anything else you buy. Security? Ok, how about reading and following the instructions to activate the card properly so that you will be able to see where your money on the card is whether it be a Prepaid Debit Card or a Credit Card.

Just so people know. Credit cards ARE NOT GOOD FOR ANYONE ON SSI. You will lose your SSI or it will be greatly reduced due to all the ability to get money back or over draw. Also, debit is actually better than credit cards because it deals with REAL cash. Unlike credit cards. This is also, why more business, all ATMs and nearly all money transfer places are requiring you to actually have cash and not credit. Credit also actually ruins your credit! In short. Do not get any credit card! If it doesn't require real cash to back it up, then it is just going to get you into debt and ruin your credit score. Especially in today's world! People are starting to transition out of allowing credit.

I just tried to open a Charles Schwab checking account yesterday but my account was closed due to my TransUnion or Equifax (I don't remember which one they said) report?? And they couldn't tell me why. Does anyone know what they require credit-wise? I am so confused and don't know how to fix it.

They check your credit report, if they see something they don't like then they just close you out. You can call Schwab's support staff [24/7] but sometimes these processes are automated and the reps might not have insight as to why a certain system processes something and what the variables are.

Anyone from Europe here with this card? If I want to sign up for the free debit card (and do not put money in my brokers account). When I want so sign up for an account they take me to an international site and says that the minimum investment for opening an account is US$25,000...

Well interesting with my debit card i get points that can be changed to money to pay anything i want, I have full fraud protection... And then I use my credit card to only make a credit profile. How different its that in the USA.

Do they do a hard pull on your credit? I have all my bureaus frozen and wondering if I need to unfreeze
@Stezworld
@Stezworld Год назад
No, CS dont do credit check but I recommend have it unfreeze for a day or two when you apply. I remember I applied for a savings account with CS while my credit frozen and got denied due to chex system being bad. I guess if you have a good chex credit you wont have a problem.

Any opinions on the new checking account by Amex? (Not the business one)
@RespectfullyCurious
@RespectfullyCurious Год назад
It's not good. I have had it since launch and I had so many issues at first. My utility companies wouldn't even recognize the card or routing number. It does not integrate with any third-party service for budgeting, it also didn't auto-connect to your amex cards for payment [you had to manually do it], and it's pretty much a super vanilla checking account. I tried to cancel a few months ago but they convinced me to keep it because the features I was looking for would come in before end of year...they have a month to figure it out, but overall not impressed. I would not recommend it at this time.

I have utilities that charge for using a credit card and only accept ACH or check payments. Is there a way to earn points via ACH or check?

Bro... this is MAJOR for me. I recently switched from a local community bank to Ally. It's been great so far, but I'm traveling internationally to cash based countries this summer and this will be A LIFE SAVER! Thank you!

Cool video! Couple questions for you… How long does it take to settle so we know how many days to plan ahead? Maybe video of you using the card in a ATM? Kind of confuse how it’s suppose to give you the “best” exchange rate.

I don't need another brokerage account but I am interested in opening a checking for the debit card. Is there any concerns opening the brokerage account to get the debit card if I have no plans for it?

I have had nothing but praise for CS until they informed me that because being a US citizen living in the Philippines I will no longer be able to use my debit card, purchase securities or deposit funds into my account. I understand the same holds true for those in Italy, France and Singapore. Schwab has gone from hero to zero by doing this. To make things worse no one will tell us what are the specific reasons for this action. Beware folks they can what ever they want.

How did they know you are living in the Philippines, did you tell them that? When it comes to financial instiitutions, if you move out of the US and want to keep the accounts open, it's best to not tell them and just keep a US address on file. Otherwise accounts may be shut down.

@@uhmerrykan When I opened the account living in the PI was no problem. Out of the blue expats living here, Italy, France were all given the boot. Falsifying information, can eventually have repercussions, Being forthright might have it's downside, but at least I don't have to remember my white lies.
