Beautiful cases, but the price point is crazy. They are over double what I was expecting. And I was expecting them to be overpriced. There's just no way I could justify the cost. There's far cheaper alternatives that will do the job just as well for a fraction of the cost. Or... just pay somebody with a C&C router table to make them for you. You could make a full set of 1 of each size for the price you'd be paying for just the largest one on the kickstarter.
@FauxHammer
@FauxHammer Год назад
I understand you view in the price, but check the comments above where someone has done a breakdown. I think you may be surprised what the cost to product these actually is. I’ve hunted for alternative and most cost much more and look much worse

I agree with you. The prices are way to much. 59GBP to fit 1 SM captain?
@gutssubz8232
@gutssubz8232 Год назад
I agree. They are awesome but at a premium. I was looking forward to this but... unfortunately it's not for me. I don't think Artis Opus have mispriced them. I think this is what they were going for. Premium product and not one to get the maximum amount of backers.
@rrphillip
@rrphillip Год назад
Agreed on the price, that said teh material looks good, the acrylic is expensive and you pay for style points as well. And they are alone on the market so they can set the primium price. I wont be surprised if we in the following years will see similar products at a lower price. I have already looked at pre build units, acrylic, and LED and I think I can do a 45*30*19cm for about 50€ and plus the time I will spend on buliding it.
@MechaPainter
@MechaPainter Год назад
@@rrphillip Yea. pretty much. The main thing to factor in is that they are designed to fit within one another - which is super efficient for material usage. Basically, materials wise, you're only paying for the biggest one for the entire frame, and get all the smaller ones for no added cost. Then just the cost of the front and back are added on for main materials. Magnets are pretty much negligible in terms of added cost. Lighting is an added expense, but in truth - it's optional.

Well as somebody that works round Bespoke Joiner, regarding pricing. Sheet of birch at the second is about 140 pound, with sizes they making them they get roughly 1 and 3/4 of a set per sheet. That's about 80 pounds. I would say they can do roughly 2 sheets an hour on cnc machine that's about 20 pounds pee box. perspex (not sure on pricing at the second) but my rough guess is about 30-40 Labour of glueing it together/sanding 2 hour roughly a box 30 pounds. Led strips(here is my rough guess again) 30-40 feeding cables another hour of work - 15 and the packaging and postage - 20 that roughly come together to about of 220-240 pounds the costs then about 80 for a tax man? If you take that it to consideration its about 100 pound of an income per box. I understand when they start design the box Birch sheets were much cheaper, but as mostly Russian product price went significantly up. I understand why they using it as that's the best material to get best finish on a product but it definitely jack the price up.

Woah great Analysis, seems reasonable. I know many people will balk at the price. But it’s good to have views like this that put it into perspective

As someone who just redesigned these cabinets in Fusion 360 and planning to make them very soon. Accounting for BOG, Time, Artistry etc. They really aren’t asking for too much. I agree of course I’d like to see them cheaper. Which is why I’m making them. But Design, milling and drilling time, acrylic, plywood, LED lights and the entire process I think is fairly justified. Not really communicating with their backers and being extremely behind schedule is the issue. The comments here are kind of crazy, trust me go build them yourself and you’ll change your tune lol

Just seen the kickstarter video. Costs way too much. Cannot under any circumstances justify the cost of these to my missus during the current financial situation. And I am known in my hobby group to be more extravagant in my hobby purchases and first to sign up to all (but this one) of Artis Opus Kickstarters. IF I had a more disposable income or maybe not in the current cost of living crisis. I MIGHT of invested. Wishing Artis Opus all the best and good fortune with this Kickstarter, but unfortunately I can't follow this time round.

From the company reselling rosemary co brushes at a huge mark up for the exact same product... They are nice but price point is rough, i can see the appeal for display painters wanting a premium option but for most its going to be a no i suspect.
@FauxHammer
@FauxHammer Год назад
Yeah I can see that, it’s mostly for those competition lever painters, but I’ve also seen people comment who like them as display cabinets who aren’t even mini painters! The price is high, but for woodwork, I wouldn’t say unreasonable. I’ve looked at many alternative options
@optimaximal
@optimaximal Год назад
I suppose the big question Ross, is would you buy them yourself, for the money they're asking, if you weren't given a prototype for review/testing?
@FauxHammer
@FauxHammer Год назад
Very good question. Now genuinely, I’m a backer now too, because I also want the rectangular ones and they cost £700! However, I am still in a unique position because of the amount of stuff I have and my position in this hobby. I have honestly been after something like this for a long time. And I’ve looked at all the options out there and more. I own a used maglite display cabinet (shown in the video) for my minis. So yes “I” would. But for the average collector, I can understand the pricing opinion. Someone on one of our Facebook groups did a breakdown eating of what they could roughly cost to make which is approx £100 less than what they are selling for (the set). Which is before shipping and for a product like this, that amount if profit is t unreasonable. If you are in the market for a properly made display cabinets, and have looked for something which does everything these do, you’ll be paying a lot more than these cost.

This is perfect for those who really take pride in some of their minis and paint them for display, rather than massproduced armies, and the price reflects that. It's pricey and there are loads of cheaper options that look good if not downright professional, some where you might have to do a little tinkering yourself. It's a good product, just not for me (unless AO send me a set, then it'll 100% be for me).

I was ready to talk shit about the prices and how they are probably just branding the stuff others are making, but IF they are still made how they show on kickstarter then they are actually very reasonably priced, believe it or not. A lot of manual labor and finishing everything by hand in the UK has it's price. They actually had to build a new workshop for these and even the the rare wood they use is "ethically" sourced from savetherainforest alliance or something, however that works. So far, at least on a surface level, this looks about as upright and fair as you can get.

These Look absolutely beautiful and well designed but dear god that price tag, I'm sure they are good quality and, maybe its just cause I happen to have a CNC router and the modeling ability to make these that's causing such a hell no on the price for me. BUT not everyone has those things and or the time for such in which case I'm sure these will be loved by those individuals.

These are absolutely stunning display cabinets, people are balking at the price, but honestly for what you are getting there isn’t much else on the market available. I’ve got my minatures displayed in an IKEA cube and I’ve always wanted something wall mounted with lights for some of my more impressive models like my Flyrant.

Lots of big talk on here about making your own. That literally applies to anything you can purchase which is premade. The price is the price. It's a nice set, I expect the price to match. Out of my range but if I had a better paying job I'd buy the set.
@FauxHammer
@FauxHammer Год назад
Yeah, they are expensive I can’t disagree. But for anyone looking at alternative production cabinets, they’ll find that these are relatively cheap. These aren’t made to be IKEA priced furniture and the quality shows. But equally they are massively undercutting decorative display cabinets that cost in the thousands. Nope, way over priced for a plywood box and some LED's. These prices are funding the purchase of the CNC directly rather than the product itself as everyone else does and then reinvest profits into running costs, but then again a fool and he's money are easily parted.
@FauxHammer
@FauxHammer Год назад
I don't understand? They already had the CnC machine for all their Brush boxes. they have been developping the design of these cases for at least 2 years since I first heard of the concept. But like anything, you aren't paying just for the materials, labour and shipping. Yes, you are also paying for the R&D that went into this and for the company to make a proffit. What car do you drive? You do realise you paid too much for some Metal, Wires, Rubber and Paint, you also paid for the machines to put all that together and every dealershit that touched it since. oh, and the company who made it also spent that money on future R&D and probaly some bigwigs bonus too.
