This year, the opportunity to go away on holiday abroad is on the way back and so, as a result, many of us will be pondering just which watch to take along. In this video, starting at just a few hundred pounds and extending into the low-thousands, I would like to present five dive watches which represent the very best choices for summer whilst giving toughness, versatility and anonymity.

Round of applause for this video, every singe one of those timepieces are not only guaranteed to set you apart, they are also incredibly capable and will look good both by the beach or by the bar! I'm ordering that Certina tomorrow (in black, although that orange is eye-catching, I feel the black is a more versatile colour)!

I've always been drawn to the classic design of the Certina and here in the US I've never come across them, it's just a cool diver, I also like the Sinn U1 and U50 as well, I can appreciate an unabashed tool watch and it's design is unmistakable, people love it or hate it, Nice overview.

Great video, and spot on, enthusiasts take every excuse to get a new watch. For this category of “affordable” summer watch I have the Zelos swordfish 40, outstanding watch, sporty, and the RichardLeGrand Oceanfarer, elegant diver. From your suggestions the Certina is nice but bulky at 43mm. I had the Steinhart Ocean One 39 with the previous bezel and it wore great. The 904 is stunning but I was considering the GMT premium 500 ceramic, really great watch, not sure about the black and blue “Batman” bezel.

Absolutely. My boss used his daily on machining. Solid, reliable, at as great price for a swiss watch, owned by swatch group who make ETA movements. I love Longines too. I have a quartz battery one thats on 4th battery in 21 years, great quality, great bracelet, glass and finish I paid £65 but got a special price. At £1000 or more its a bargain and keeps great time.

I own a newer mm300, a Seiko Sla023 and previously owned an SBDX017- it really is worth reiterating from experience that the hardlex and bezel material on the older model were perfectly fine and despite daily wear for 2 years and many holidays in that time, they never scratched. They always pop up as “issues” with the watch but rarely if ever from people that have owned the watch. Similarly the size and weight are easy to get used after a couple of weeks for me and many others but people often return/flip the watch within a few days due to worries about how it wears. I say all this as a passionate advocate for the watch having loved mine and missed it once sold. I hope to keep the current one for the foreseeable future. (Interesting video as always- thanks for your content)

Several nice timepieces in this video. I like the Certina and I don't have an orange dial watch in my collection. Presently I am on holiday in Kefalonia, Greece. Next we plan to sail to the neighboring Island of Zakynthos. I opted for my SqualeMatic. Since I do a lot of sailing, that Sinn looks like it can take the beating. 🍷

A vintage presentation, Sir! Some great choices - love that Certina. I'm not a fan of a 9 o'clock crown (Sinn) - I know the German military love them, but having worked at sea and in water as a diver and scientist, I know they pose a significant snag risk. Incidentally, this is my reason for choosing crown guards - they help 'shrug' off snags from line etc, though a 4 o'clock crown is best, which brings us to... All hail the king: the MM3000. Ok so the PS 'X' is an ugly price to pay for globalisation, but what a watch! The 44mm wears small and there is no better diver for the money. You'd have to get to Planet Ocean or Sea Dweller (now with hideous Datejust Cyclops) for the same functionality. As for 'holiday watch', I like a skin diver style, preferably blue. So Seiko SBDX039 Glacier. Or, Spring Drive, titanium GMT - Seiko LX SNR049J1. That does light diving, GMTing (?) and cycling! Wat evs, my holiday's on hold...

It's a good one too, but I suppose you can't include everything or the video will be 2 hours long, he didn't mention Orient either and they have a much longer 50 year history of exceptional dive watches than CW which I suppose at only 16 years in existence hasn't earned its stripes as yet. I think even Steinhart is a bit older and a Steinhart did leak on me through the back case a couple of years ago at only 40 metres, an anomaly I'm sure! I haven't seen any reviews on CW performance unlike the others here, so it might be difficult to include some brands without a solid performance reputation built up over the years. What's printed on the dial might not reflect the true performance. Unless it's ISO or Japanese certified of course. I'm NOT saying CW is untrustworthy by the way, I'm sure it is, and is genuinely water resistant, but if it's not certified it doesn't guarantee anything. I'd still trust a 300m PADI Seiko at 200m before I'd trust a 1000m CW at the same depth. So make sure you have your dive computer strapped on and use the watch only as a backup 😉. I know most dive clubs insist on using them at deeper levels anyway.

My new fav watch is my Steinhardt Ocean One 300m in bronze. It's AMAZING. I also really love Zelos, for their functionality vs. price, their near unparalleled lume (I have the Ghost dial -- fully lumed dial) also in bronze, and for their aesthetics. I also use the Orient Kamasu diver, (burgundy), a Smith & Bradley "Atlantis" which for the money is pound for pound, or ounce for ounce/gram for gram on of the best dive watches in the world. I also have a Rolex sub, and a molded Seiko SKX diver. And about 20 other great dive watches. But those are the ones that get the most wrist time.

A great list, and fantastic explanation of each piece!! Great video!. I've just come from a 2 wk dive trip in South Turkey. I brought my Seiko Tuna solar, Orient Mako XL.......and would you believe I took the plunge (no pun intended!) and got an Ali Express Heimdallr Monster red dial Seiko homage! I took all these watches (just as backup to a dive computer of course) down to 80m. I knew the Seiko and Orient would be fine, but to my delight, the Chinese Heimdallr also performed admirably! Two points, I've been hearing that Certina's lume is disappointing and not viewable in deeper water, maybe someone can tell me if they had this experience, and my own experience, a Steinhart I owned leaked through the back case, (gasket had broken during assembly possibly) on me a couple of years ago at only 45m. Maybe I got a bad one, but I've stayed away ever since, and I'm sure it's not a reflection on their normal quality.

I hate those people who won't jump off the yacht, just because they're too worried they might ruin their watch. Bro, you're in the amalfi coast. What kinda holiday is it if you won't do that just because of your watch. So unless you're prepared to damage / ruin a watch, don't take it on your summer holiday.

my vote for Certina, recently bought the discontinued Ds-2 quartz chrono. Owned the big lux brands prior and currently. I have never seen the Certina products in person, they are not big in north america, but I was delighted at the quality of the dial, bezel, hands, case finishing and the bracelet. VS the moon swatch- hahah the certina is in a different league, vs the rolex sub..... the sub case, bracelet is nicer, but VS the montblac timewalker bracelet- same quality. It really punches above the price- speaking of which, shop around, you can get great deals. I like this better than the seiko- as the brand, yes I am a brand snob, the certina brand is better, even if just via obscurity. Seiko drops the ball in thickness, outdated size, and the bracelet is no better than a $100 watch.
