@@PhillipSkraba The total charge time for all 3 is the same, it’s just that 1 and 2 are done faster so you can use a full battery in 20 min instead of 50.
Phil. I have that floating thing. It is ok. I live on an island, here in Japan (which is also a big island), and often fly near the ocean and over it. I have used it a few times, but find that it really limits what I can do with the drone, when it is attached. For one, my field of view is limited. When I do Active Track, the floaties are always getting in the frame. I can't shoot pano, because the floaties also get in the way. Also, they have a lot of wind resistance, so you might want to add more time to your return to home setting, or else it might not make it back (in which case you will really need the floating capability). I have landed on the water with it and then taken off. It works fine. BUT, BUT.....if you land and take off, go straight up. Do not (like I did once), try to take off, moving forward. It flipped over. Fortunately, I was near it. Anyway, it is ok. Just know that there are some things you all need to consider.
I dont recommend ever trying to Land in the ocean even with the water landing attachment since any wave could still flit it over and you rather just avoid water when youre battery is running low
I just upgraded to the mini 2 after seeing how much better occusync is, the mini 2 bag in the fly more combo is alot better, you can get so much more in it compared to the mini 1 case, you can even fit in a second charger pack, i now have my mini 1 and mini 2 batterys in the bag, in the words of clarkson more power :D
Occysync makes a HUGE difference, I actually want to fly this little drone all the time! I hated flying the Mini 1 due to the signal failure all the time. I didn't enjoy the bag at first, but I've seen the light and I love it now! Lots more power!!
Worth highlighting that adding accessories, e.g. prop guards etc will increase weight over 250 grams and therefore require the drone to be operated in line with the more stringent CAA >250 gram regulations
Sure, there's that too. I'm pretty sure most people know that any of these will weight over 1g anyhow, as long as you're careful and considerate you should be fine.
the problem with these accessories is that the DJI care refresh says when you put on an accessory not made by DJI they state that you won't be covered. I'm not sure how strict they are with this and how they check but there is a possibility.
Well, I don't see how they could ever know what you have on your drone, so I wouldn't worry about that too much. Just go Shaggy on them, "it wasn't me".
I have a DJI mini 2 SE and was surprised to find out that most of (not all) your accessories still keep a sub 250g drone legal to fly without registration or RID. The 2 things I did different was The DJI Mini 2 Two-Way Charging Hub at $39.00, only charges (as you stated) batteries in sequence (1 at a time) so the Hanatora Battery USB Charger with Quick Charge 3.0 for DJI Mini's at $13.99 is a cheaper way to go! not to mention it's easier to store in your bag because of its much smaller size. and I went with a "weighted" (orange & black) landing pad, so it doesn't need to be staked. Thank you for the insight into these accessories.
I saw another comment ask already but I wanted to reiterate I'd love to see a video showing the difference for those filters! Just to really understand what they do, thanks for a really great video!
I've done quite a lot of videos on filters Chelsea, you'll find them on my channel. For me they are very important when it comes to achieving "cinematic" footage.
the floating thing is a must if you fly over water. i lost a drone in the water. now i have one, i dont land on water so i cut the foam so it dsoent get in the field of view of the camera. if my drone goes in the water at least it will be floating on the surface and i will use my care refresh
Concerning the lipos bags, they probably give some a sense of security and possibly better than nothing but if they act like lipo batteries when the catch fire then they’ll burn very very hot and one batteries would most likely ignite the others it’s stored with and that poor little bag probably won’t stand a chance, lol just being real. I’d like to try the floaty but in windy conditions seems it “could” be an issue but I suppose not nearly as bad as a sunken drone.
I have a Mavic Air 2 and wanted a little brother, so purchased the Mini 2 which is arriving in next day or two. Can I pair one Remote to both and just carry the one remote which will just work when I turn either of the drones on to fly?
Phillip, I have a question about the water landing kit. I had the same thoughts regarding using the skids to recover the drone and claim the insurance. But I did wonder, how much sea water is kicked in to the underside of the drone as a result of take-off and landing? The bottom of the drone is vented to cool the battery. How problematic do you think it is?
I can see sweeping restrictions coming in the next couple of years as drone ownership increases, especially around popular landmarks such as cathedral spires, sequoia forests, etc. More and more people will complain around the spoiled views from drones and the noise they create. I still want one.
I don't see that happening because of those reasons, but rather safety reasons. Let's hope drone pilots will use their heads and play nice or it ruins it for all of us.
sweep restrctions by nonsense burrucrats who've never flown a thing in their lives...yea no thanks. don't be dumb, fly with caution, don't fly where you should, you'll be fine
Another Question. If you are in a boat or a car (a plane 😃) can you take the drone (in the air) with you? Can you film yourself while uou are in a car? Talk to your audience filmed from above in a riding car.
Your post is one year old from this date, July 2022. Are you as enthusiastic now as you were a year ago about the DJI Mini 2 compared to the DJI Mini 3 pro?
Sure, I've dropped a few videos on them, you can find them in the DJI Mini 2 playlist on my channel. They basically allow you to limit the amount of light entering your lens and lower your shutter to achieve natural motion blur for a more natural and cinematic look.
3:30 the 180 degree rule in cinema means something altogether different, a cut between angles intended to maintain location must be under 180 degrees apart or it will appear to have changed locations which will break up the continuity. The 180 degree rule typically applies to filming dialog been two people.
I'm afraid you're right and you're wrong. I am fully aware of the left right left right 180 degree rule, however, there are two 180 degree rules in cinematography, please take some time to look it up.
Nice accessories. Regarding "cinematic look" and "amateurish look" - this is a matter of what look you want to achive to emphasize your story. I can set my shutter speed at 1/frame rate and fly very fast so I can get very blurry image for some reason, as well as I do not need to follow the 180-deegre rule and set some high shutter speed to emphasize the intense or disorientation in combination with fast flying. Cinematic does not mean slow camera move set at 24 fps and 1/48 of shutter speed. So nd filter is just a compensation for excessive light that you get for your specific frame rate and shutter speed. Cinematic refers to cinematography☻
Well hello, a worthy comment! Thanks for that Szymon, and even though I 100% agree with you in terms of using high and slow shutter speeds for cinematography, the standard is the 180 degree rule. So if you're on set and you're setting up the camera you'll set it to 25fps 1/50, right? It's the standard, it's what we all use. It's rare that someone would use a high shutter speed, films like Saving Private Ryan are very few where the cinematographer actually uses the shutter speed to be consequential to the story and pull the viewer in even closer. The same goes with slower and even fluctuating shutter speeds like you can see in Man of Fire, that was epic, and I even tried that look using that Arri 2B camera which has a dial on the bottom so you can change the shutter, it looked pretty cool. Using the shutter as a tool is fantastic, and one word I've learnt over the years I've been doing this is "consequential", I think that's so important. There are so many films that are beautiful, but they lack either story or they lack input from the cinematographer. So many people love their gear, and overuse gimbals, not even knowing what they should be used for and in what situations. So yes, I totally agree with you but disagree at the same time because as we know the 180 degree rule is the standard, it's what we reach for so that our footage looks "cinematic", hate that word and even I overuse it. If we ignore this rule we get very sharp footage like the "football mode" on the tv, however some directors such as Peter Jackson have used this to their advantage in films like the Hobbit to achieve a sharper, more realistic image with the Hobbits, odd experiment, but some agree it worked. Dzieki za wspaniala wiadomosc, ciesze sie jak ktos pisze z glowa 🔥
Yes, content for drones is great when it comes to views, and I love it, but to keep myself sane I need to diversify sometimes or I’ll go loopy 😂 Nevertheless, more to come!
A little zipp where you can put papers in. In my case i discovered only after an hour or so that there it containt the extra propellors, screwdriver an d so on
Hi! It is really cool video with very useful info, thank you! But I have a question for you, which cam do you use for your vlogs? She has really good and fast autofocus!
I'm an avoid photography and the Mini 2 is my first drone. I really like it. I discovered your channel while searching for filters. Really appreciate your videos. You probably know and others may have noted it, regarding the blade guards, the firmware/software app now recognize when you use the guards. I put my on, the screen showed it recognized the guards and was calibrating for the guards. Thus, no need to go into the Settings from what I can see. Look forward to watching your other videos. One question. I do like the bag (that you show) that came with my combo pack; very small. I've thought of getting a hard case which are larger. Thoughts hard case vs. the bag itself. The compact size of the bag makes it less visible and easy to put into my hiking pack.
its really good cause if u have to land on grass then it doesnt let u fly back up without that stand since the gimbal gets messed up and also the proellers too i think so yeah thats a really important tool for me in case i mess up a landing or something not that i land on grass often but its still good to have.
i use also a landing gear but a different one. it connects the front and back arms and goes down from the arms. Because it connects the front and back arm it protects the front arm form breaking easily. it is stable because it stands on the outersides of the drone. Also it are only 2 plastic beams that fits in the standaard carry case i also have the landing gear that you have but i dont use it. because of the points above
Phillip - thanks for a very helpful post, would be a great help if you actually showed the box in which the filters was delivered in. When using your link a lot of different filters shows up and not only for the mavic mini but also for mavic's other models - so it's a bit har to find the filterset you are actually referring to....
Hi Ole, sorry about that! I'll be making a video about these filters this week as the sun is finally going to come out in Poland, so I'll show you the box, what they look like and why you need them. If you're already decided, let me know what country you're in and I'll find a link to your Amazon.
In this video you say the pgytech cage sucks pretty badly but in your DJI Mini 2 propeller guards video you suggest it a great buy, flies well and offers better protection better than the DJI ones. Can you clarify?
New subscriber here! Great and informative video, Phillip! I wish I had found your video sooner as I really could've used those floatation thingies you mentioned - I irretrievably lost my drone in Lake Tahoe due to an ESC malfunction and DJI refuses to replace it unless I send them the original drone. Also, I love the smooth appearing/disappearing text effect - how'd you do that? Keep up the great work!
Thank You Chris, great to have you on board! Oh gosh, well, if I could go down anywhere with my drone, it would be Lake Tahoe!! I stayed in a wonderful place there, The Coachman Hotel, what a wonderful place! Well, flying over water, these come in real handy! Yes, with DJI Care you need to physically give them back the drone. I had to do that with my Mavic 2 Pro, it landed in the swimming pool though, so not hard. The text is the Cinematic titles pack from MotionVFX, awesome company that makes plugins!
the link to the nd filters you provided are for the DJI MAVIC MINI 2 are those the same as what you are using for your DJI MINI 2 (not MAVIC)? and the link to the propeller guards you gave says NOT FOR MINI 2
Does the landing gear affect the flight of the mini 2? Maybe the landing gear catches a little bit of wind. When you’re flying the mini 2 with the landing gear, do you notice a difference? Thanks!
Good video and tips. One point I disagree with is the mini 2 is not flimsy but robust as a RU-vidr has already crash tested it and done other stress tests and the mini 2 has surpassed other drones .
Hi Mario, sure, what I meant is that if feels flimsy, it's very flexible, I think that is why it survived all those tests, I watched them too. It's a fantastic drone, and I've crashed my Mini original into the wall so many times, it didn't even scratch. My Mavic 2 Pro is so sturdy and stiff if it crashed like my Mini did it would be game over, so it's flimsiness is in my opinion one of its strengths.
Still laughing here....only just come across you, and at the start of your video I thought you said your name was foot scrubber !!!!! Great video, thanks for the advice
Yooo it’s so funny you just throw shit all over the place and slam things on the table, yet have a super calm presence with sassy jokes in there. K thx bye
I've heard people say they've had issues with the freewell filters with the mini 2 either the gimbal doesn't work with it, or they fall off incredibly fast. Have you had any issues with any of them ?
@@PhillipSkraba I'm OK with L.A. actually...The Giants vs Dodgers rivalry has long been one of the best in MLB. I was just raised in the Bay Area and so followed the Giants since Mays & McCovey. That's a LONG time...
To us here in Europe, well, I'm guessing most of us anyway, we're totally ignorant of baseball and the culture surrounding it, so I have next to no idea of what you're talking about. Sometimes I wish I was a teenager in the 80's living in California, but I was born in London in 81. I love the idea of going to baseball games, the social and sports side of it. When I have some time in my life I'll try to educate myself on the sport.
Scary but being a fisherman and around the saltwater alot boy am i glad they make them.As he said, may not save the drone but will make retrieval possible. Also thee dry landing gear is to me a big blessing, thanks for showing these items.
If I was filming over the water a lot and I had DJI Care I would 100% get the stupid looking floaty thing. Just so that if I crashed I had the wreckage to send back for a refurbed one lol. I would never intentionally attempt to land it on water. Thats just asking for trouble.
How many of the accessories (landing gear/float plane landing gear/cages) put the Mini 2 at or over 250 grams? Over 249 grams in Canada changes its classification and takes it from no license needed to needing a license ... and all of the flight area restrictions kick in too.
You do make a lot of exhalent informative videos that must help a grate many people into the hobby. Thank you very much indeed for all your time and effort in producing them. However, one thing puzzles me and that is why you treat your equipment with such scant respect by wilfully throwing it around as though it's worthless?
