Yeah this dodgeball game is one of the most epic parts of the show lol. I can't believe they made the dodgeball more epic than a lot of the fights in this show, it rocks.
I feel like a lot of reactions miss that part but it's understandable since that catch is semi blocked by Hisoka matrix dodge plus anytime Hisoka is on screen your eyes go to him lol
I personally like this arc as well but I understand why people don't like it as much. Its smack dab in the middle of two high octane arcs with likeable villains while this arc is mostly a training arc with Genthru who by comparison is a lot less likeable
@@EpicSubmarines I agree. Its not that people hate it they just don't rank it as highly. Nevertheless I think a lot of what greed island does is overlooked because people are focused on the admitted underwhelming villain. It's a training arc but it's main purpose I think is the development of Gon and Killua's relationship. Plus, the usual development of the power system as we learn a bit more about nen. It's good. Really good. Just not as exciting I suppose?
This is definitely my favorite arc. I just can't get excited about the next one. Part of the reason might be because I was reading through it when it was new and the "art" and all the delays just took any excitement out of it, but in general I just don't like the direction it went to. There were memorable parts sure but considering its length there should be way more than there are.
10:32 lol I have never even noticed the number also adding up even though I've watched this so many times before. Good eye also on catching that Tsezguerra protected his back with nen right before it hit him and it minimized the damage. I also agree very much with Ange. It's not a hot take at all. This dodgeball game shows really good and creative usage of nen.
The thing about Gon saying that only Killua can do it starts to show some of Gon's messed up mindset he has at times. That he's willing to sacrifice anything, even his friend's safety/health to achieve what he wants
@@abdelrhmankhaled7917 Never was tbh. Man is best friends with a trained assassin who has definitely killed far more than most people Gon knows. And Killua being a killer NEVER phases Gon. Also he chided Chrollo for killing people but is fine with the scissor guy because he helped them get strong. Gon is fine with whatever you do as long as you are helpful or nice to him.
@@abdelrhmankhaled7917 But that's the entire point of his character. Flaws doesn't necessarily mean bad. It actually encapsulates human hypocrisy as well. It's the message with the Chimera ant arc as well.
Yes you said it exactly right Carly about the trust and gon knowing that killua is physically abused and he can take it, you could’ve gone further. Gon and killua friendship is so deep on many levels on rewatch so I’ll just tell you. It’s a very known abusive relationship.
I truly love how Togashi hides the themes of its characters in the conversations. A lot of people were like "Oh look, Gon letting Killua hold the ball and just 'cause he's the only one who Gon trust, so wholesome" and some episodes after you see that this conversation and arc states the current situation of the deranged state of morality that Gon has, how has it evolved and how it'll bloom in the Chimera Ant arc.
@@calmbeast1329 If you watched/read through all of HxH and reached the end thinking "Gon is a warrior" rather than "Gon is a child" or "Gon is complex" you're misunderstanding his character and Togashi's intentions. Every major conflict Gon has (and ESPECIALLY evidently with Hanzo, Phantom Troupe, Genthru, and Pitou) is literally to show his immaturity, selfishness, and/or child-like hypocrisies. And to subvert typical shounen protagonists. Not to mention all of Gon's friends and acquaintances constantly talking about him being the epidemy of childlike curiosity mixed with a scary undertone
def not a hot take, Ange. this game primes us to really see creative nen use outside of a typical battle scenario and the Gon-Killua relationship feeding into the game was a brilliant move by Togashi for sure
gege (creator of jjk) said that it was embarassing when people called him out on having hunter x hunter manga panels all over his walls, and some current manga panels also look alike. So yeah,I guess you could said that jjk was inspired by hxh
Razor is definitely the real deal. He was effectively soloing everyone in this match since it’s his nen controlling the numbered puppets. He mentioned to the troupe that he was the game master controlling the emitter effects in the game, so that means two things: 1, he’s maintaining not only the devils but also the whole games emitter effects while playing and is still this strong and 2, he’s an emitter by birth (nen users who project their nen, think killuas dad and grandpa) which means he’s this strong at enhancer offense and defense without being an enhancer.
razer is an emitter btw. when dealing with the troupe coming in with the boat, he said that he is handling all the emitter spells in the game. like movement via spells. creating and controlling the 14 devils (his nen ability) also requires manipulation (and possibly conjuring, depending on what exactly the ability is), but his main type is emitter
@@gabrieldossantos1116Emission is pretty close to enhancement. But yeah, if thats just 80% of his potential, imagine if he had something like Kurapika's Emperor Time.
Is not conjuring they are pure nen shaped in that form. Is a combination of emition and manipulation mostly. A conjurer could do something similar but the key difference with conjurers is that they actually create that object, meaning that even ordinary people who can't see nen would be able to see it.
@@zzxp1 it's not clear how exactly he creates his devils. for example, the nen exorcist 'borrows power from the forest spirit to use his conjuring ability to give form to a nen beast'. so you can (obviously) use conjuring to create nen beasts. but morel uses a different process of creating his puppets. he creates a nen core and then uses real smoke to surround it and control it with his manipulation technique. there are multiple ways, how exactly razor does it was not specified. conjured objects are still only made from nen. they dont actually create real matter. that's why they can make them appear and disappear at will. or hide them with In.
@hiel As I said both conjuers and emiters could reach the same goal by different means. And conjurers do create real matter, Kortopi power is the best example of that, and they can apply In to them because they are made from the user nen after all but they are solid and totally visible otherwise. In short a normal person wouldn't be able to see the nen beast from an emiter while it would be able to see the one of a conjurer unless it was concealed with In. Thats the key diference. Look at it at this way, conjurers amass nen to create an object, and that object can then continue existing without direct input from the creator, because for all purposes that object behaves as if it were real. Emiters separate a portion of their nen and need a level of concentration to keep the nen outside of them. A conjurer could create a sharp like object like a sword and it would cut by itself. An emiter could also create a sword looking thing by shaping his aura but it wouldn't cut unless it properties were altered with transformation.
My husband and I recently watched all of HxH and our possible hot take was that greed island was our favorite arc…..we loved this arc! I’m glad you two are enjoying the ride!
Ive always said that greed island is the most fun arc in the series and the next arc is amazing because its the polar opposite. the show goes from fun and lighthearted to serious and dark which is is unexpected but leads to amazing character development.
The way you guys almost perfectly predicted their recieving strategy is pretty damn impressive. I say it makes up for every failed prediction made in the past!
Keeping your nen ability secret doesn't literally strengthen it (unless that's a condition that you've set), it's just strategically smarter to keep your cards close to your chest.
No Maki cant stich Killua. They said in the Heavens Arena Arc that she can only heal open and clean cut wounds. Those wounds are far from that. Besides she uses strings and needles. The same way you wouldnt stitch a bruised and fractured hand, it doesnt make sense she could do anything here
Togashi is one of the best of all time, no doubt, he's a generational talent. I highly recommend reading the manga after the show, from the start I mean. HxH is already super well paced, but the manga makes it even faster, and Togashi is a complete genius with a pen. I wish I could go back and read it all again with no recollection
i'm so sorry, homies! I had some financial issues this month and so my patreon lapsed. But i finally get paid tomorrow(after 3 weeks X.X) and as soon as I stop by the bank, I'll be back on the patreon!
Not gonna lie, at this point, I stopped hating on Ging. Because of the things he did and achieved. I ended up thinking he is this someone who everyone knew about, that is really mysterious, cool, probably a genius and I was more excited to know more about him than thinking about the mistakes he did towards Gon. Another reason is that, Gon seems to be enjoying the adventures he's experiencing. He likes the chase. He likes the challenges that his dad left him. Well, that's just me. But thank you for the reaction guys! I am really happy you're enjoying the show!
Ging clearly said, he doesn't want to see Gon 😂 But he knows Gon might wants to find him and created this challenges whether Gon will actually wants to find him or just give up. It was partly Gon's decision. At this point as well I just accepted that people just easily hate other because it's easier than understand them.
Agreed, these two episodes are legit some of the best in the series for me too. The way they display nen and how they fight with it in this setting: BRILLIANT
They did my man Goreinu dirty LOL he's actually a very strong nen user (conjure and manipulate 2 nen beasts is not an easy thing to achieve and their ability is quite useful when you think about it) very smart but here he underestimated Razor bc dude hide his game until he was ready (when a character like Razor with closed eyes opens them you know shit is about to go down^^) Also Gon wasn't egoistical here he was angry in the first place bc Killua almost died (and Bisky and Hisoka actually😅), Razor actually went for it so they had to end the game asap or else they would potentially all die, Razor has lots of aura ...Killua didn't realize it but Gon knew and he was the only one with the ability to defeat Razor here (I love how everyone can be the strongest if the rules create the opportunity, here Killua and Hisoka's abilities weren't enough to win) so Killua having injuries that can heal wasn't the worst outcome, but you still see Gon hesitate until Killua said 'go for it', same when Tsezugerra tried to intervene he let Killua speak his mind first and then he gave the confirmation that they were on the same wavelength I'm pretty sure JP people don't misunderstand that scene it is really made to show the absolute trust they have in eo, especially how Killua needs it (remember in YN arc when he was angry bc Kurapika wouldn't let them help saying smth like 'you don't consider us friends or equals' but here Gon shows that he heard him and values him as a friend and equal... it means the world for Killua you can see him getting emotional)
Razor is actually an emitter, and you can only imagine how both skilled and powerful he is to have a nen ability where he can create 7 nen beasts that don’t have to be controlled, but instead act on their own. Whether “14 Devils” is a conjurer ability or an emitter ability, it’s extremely impressive. If “14 Devils” is an emission nen ability it not only uses emission, but also transmutation and manipulation (the two worst affinities for emitters to use) If it’s a conjurer ability, then Razor is using 3 affinities (Conjurer, Transmutation, Manipulation), of which none are his natural affinity, and two are still the worst affinities for him to use. Keep in mind that Razor is doing this while at the same time powering all of the spell cards on the island. They’re extremely lucky that they’re playing dodgeball instead of actually fighting Razor.
There’s a fun theory that one of the restrictions for Razor’s 14 Devils is that they can only be used for this wing of sports challenges, to help make them more powerful. But even then with all the crazy restrictions on the greed island game masters to make the game work, Razor is a beast of aura
there's a few error in your analysis, Manipulation is close to emitters , the worst for him would be conjurer(40%), and second worst is transmuter(60%) and specialist(60%?), since conjurer is the worst possible it would make a lot of sense if the devils were just made of nen, which would only use emitter and manipulation with just a touch of conjuration for the style. it's still impreesive when looking back at how weak were the ninjas of the bodyguard in the previous arc.
The rule is that if you hit the opponent and your team catches the ball (regardless if your team is inbounds), the opponent is out, that's why Bisky is out.
29:00 It's not that they didn't tell anyone about their Nen and their Nen will be stronger. But it's just because it's common sense for Nen Users to stay low about revealing their Nen, to make it more difficult for opponents to deal with it, as a surprise elements. While, as Bomber has a condition to reveal how his Nen works to successfully planted his bomb on his opponents.
22:22 for me, it's like they trust each other too much lol because like Gon said, if it was Bisky or Hisoka who hold the ball, he couldn't use his 100% he was afraid that he might hurt them but Killua, on the other hands, Gon knows he's gonn be alright, I mean Killua is alive and they could beat Razor lol next episode is my favourite!!! 23:13 her name's Machi! 😆
you're naive. Both Bisky and Hisoka reacted with a straight face on purpose. Because that's still a weird explanation. Ok that he has trust in his friend but still to go to lengths of making your friend's hands unusable forever...
everyone says gon is bad friend but like kill could say no gon isnt making anyone do anything is he selfish yes but people hate him love the reaction favourite reactions
Great to see you enjoying HH so much. The quality of the writing won't drop off and the way Nen is used will continue to surprise you til the end. It's quite brilliant.
@@faristont4561 Kimchi and Tofu was good, I enjoyed their reaction a lot. On the other hand, LM has the most boring hxh reaction i've ever seen, they made me cringe so much I couldn't stand it
I love these episodes because it’s like HxH’s version of a bottle episode. Characters are placed in one setting and just get to bounce off one another. Add in the raised stakes and Nen and it gets its own Shonen flair to it
25:31 Btw Hisoka doesn’t just like enhancers more than the other Nen categories. He just likes Gon, who just so happens to be an enhancer… which him (Gon) being an Enhancer isn’t why Hisoka likes him. (At least I’m pretty sure it doesn’t but I could be wrong lol you guys got be second guessing myself)
14:03 Razor's devil Number 5 caught the ball first after it touched Bisky and threw it back at Hisoka then Hisoka caught it, that's why Bisky was out and Hisoka wasn't
13:55 Yeah but it was Razor’s throw that hit Bisky (her clothes) and then his #5 Nen puppet caught it and then threw it at Hisoka, so the one Hisoka caught technically isn’t the same throw that hit/eliminated Bisky anymore.
Pls react to the opening of ninja kamui it's titled vengeance by cold rain and please watch the first episode it's made by the director of jujutsu kaisen season 1
This episodes got a great amount of comedy too. So funny and natural moments that probably are underrated in this show but not so many shows brings me the joy that HxH does.
i mean obviously he's a bad dad but ngl marking him as one of the 'top 5 worst dads' is massively underestimating other anime dads lol. like, sure there are those like he and Toji from JJK, but then there's those like Yusuke Urameshi's from Yu Yu Hakusho, a shitty Yakuza dude who hit Yusuke's mom alot. or George Joestar, father of Jonathan Joestar from JoJo. or Minato Namikaze from Naruto who sealed a demon inside his child and said "naah he can handle it!", and like, just because he did in the end, doesnt mean you guessing right makes you a good dad?? and then there's the even worse types like like Yoshikage Kira's dad, Todoroki's dad, DIO's dad, Broly's dad and etc. or hell, there's even Killua or Gyro from the very same anime as Ging who have far worse dads.
I started this show because I watched part of this dodgeball match on RU-vid years ago and I was like: "ok what's this show and why is this kid attacking with rock paper scissors powers"
In a show with superpowers like nen, utilizing it in a super grounded setting like dodgeball brings out all tne potential. The result is the most fun sports match ever, and many people's favorite part.
I just spend way too much time thinking about the math and logic of Razor's 14 Devils, and while I don't think it's part of his ability, imagine him combining all 7 of his devils together, that would be the equivalent of a 13th devil who's twice as strong PLUS two 1st devils (e.g. 28) Math: 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 13 + 13 + 1 + 1
I'm so happy that you loved this arc. I really enjoyed Greed Island arc and I was a bit disappointed that not everyone thought the same. 😅 But I saw your reactions and I felt the same excitement you two had for this. Always love your fire reactions! Started watching you from your Haikyuu reactions and now HunterxHunter. 2 of my comfort animes!!! Hope your channel grows more and more.
The scene with Killuas messed up hands is one of these scences were you begin to wonder about Gons worldview. Yes, Gon put all his trust in Killua but the "normal" thing would be to worry first, right? Gon has a different view than most and if he believes the person that stands next to him "can take it" he will not concern himself with worrying about them.
Razer is an Emitter --> He puts his aura outside of him (throw a red energy ball to kill big guy).. or put aura in the Volley Ball (Enhancer), and the aura is strong even when he throw the ball (Emitter)... Or he makes those 9 devils with his own aura --> Emitter too. Emitter = The ability to keep you aura strong, even if the Aura is not touching you body.... so making Nen Beast, as Goreinu's Gorillas --> is a Emitter ability. Why not conjurer? ---> Because conjurer is the art of conjure an item or beast, that is NOT made out of your own aura. When Razer Emitt his 9 devils --> He takes 50% of his aura outside of him, and transform his aura into those 9 devils.... Making Razer less powerful because he would have 50% of his aura left. If Razer was a conjurer. He would use aura to Imagine and Conjure those devils, made of Nen, but not Razer Nen. Then Razer could have his 100% aura with him and have those 9 devils made of World-Nen. So Conjure Nen Beasts is more powerful than to Emitt Nen Beasts..... BUT... as MANIPULATION is next to Emitter --> Emitter can manipulate very well their creations... where Conjurer are super far from Manipulation.... so Conjurer tend to conjure Items --> That doesn't need to be manipulated.... but they usualy choose powers and restrictions for their items... like the vacum cleaner, or the chains.
In fact, let's see how all this work, with Hisoka as example : When Hisoka throw a Card, how strong is it? ---> 1) He put Nen on the Cards (Enhancer) --> 80% of power, because Hisoka is not an Enhancer 2) He change the Aura to have a Cut property (Transmuter) --> 100% of cut power, because Hisoka is a Transmuter 3) If Hisoka attack with this cutting card in hand --> He have a 100% + 80% attack 4) Now if Hisoka throw the card (Emitter) --> 60% of power, because Hisoka is quite far from Emitter ---> his throwing card just lost 40% of it's power... the nen vanish into the air, because Hisako can master Emitter only to 60%. So Hisoka cards are deadlier when he doesn't throw them.
