@@peterclarke7006 You can check your blindspots and be failed for that reason because it isn't "obvious" enough to testers very often. My sister was advised to wear her hair up and a ballcap when doing her test to make sure the instructor could "see" her checking her blindspots.
I think he's telling a joke which often means slight embellishment to a story for the sake of humor or comedic effect. I don't think the guy really thinks that seriously about shoulder checking. You shouldn't need someone to tell you this. @@peterclarke7006
@@stuffwithsoph8264 Yup, I continuously get blamed for not checking my blind spots for being obvious enough both in practice and in the test even though Im turning my head all the way to the windows where I should be checking. Pain in the butt
I swear, I want just verbalize everything that I am doing like, "MIRROR MIRROR SHOULDER" since my guy was also like, "you didn't check any of your blindspots" even though I did.
The examiners always tell you before you are asked to do an emergency stop. I used to be a driving instructor in the UK and when they look around behind them you know you've got about 3 seconds before they yell stop. Always have to remember to do the 6 point check before moving off again as you could fail if you're flustered after having nearly sent the examiner through the window.
@@sukkajukkajuntti3458not sure if you were referring to the examiner, but if you were you're kind of wrong there were no overreacting movement made by her or both of them, it's pretty normal to have a hard time keeping your balance at that moment when you do an emergency brake, that also happens to me sometimes..
That was an amazing brake check..I would say he gets a PASS on his test..Had there been a kid or someone or something he didnt see,his reaction time was immediate..He was on point..No delay..
You can't even get your license if you don't do it as well as he does during the test, it's a bare minimum. :) Now if he's this quick in an unexpected situation that's impressive, but unfortunately driving school can't teach the real emergency... Because intentionally risking hitting a child might be considered inappropriate 😂
@mickmurphy92 Making approrpiate safety checks before getting someone to slam on their brakes is having a power trip now? Whatever helps you sleep at night.
as someone is currently learning to drive, i watched this so many times to see how he used the brakes so i can learn it since that’s one of my biggest issues at the moment.
Find a quiet back road on a nice day, and slam the brakes. Genuinely put the pedal in the floor. It's not comfortable, but you should know how fast you can stop if needed. Then do the same thing with the emergency brake only. You may need it someday.
If you’re driving manual then also slam the clutch down too otherwise you’ll stall and fail or that would be the case in the uk at least also make sure you hold the wheel firmly to keep the car going straight whilst you grind to a halt 😊
He is driving a manual car. There are two peddles to worry about, brake and clutch. In an automatic you use 1 foot to run both brake and accelerator. The only time both feet should hit the brake is in an emergency stop situation.
Hes checking so much because the UK test is a hundred times more difficult and strict than the US test. Its makes a UK drivers license worth more but it also means that a single missed check or head turn can cost an entire test and all the fees and booking costs.
A missed check will only cause a fail in the UK if it's done in a safety-critical situation (like no checks at all to move lanes) or is so persistent that it shows an unsafe lack of awareness. You won't fail your test for, say, missing a blind spot check during a normal "pull up on left / drive off" situation (given that you still look to see if it's safe in the mirrors).
Thank you! I passed my test a few days ago and recently got a new petrol car. I got stuck at a junction for a little bit trying to pull off with only the clutch. My instructor never taught me the gas method first in a diesel car. Makes much more sense now.
@@altheprophet It's important so he's not focusing on the fact she could randomly ask him to stop again. He can pay more attention to traffic and controlling the car correctly instead.
@TryingMyBest932 it's literally an emergency stop test it's supposed to surprise ypu cuz anything that has ypu slamming brakes like that was something by suprise
Here here! A lot of people should have that in their heads before doing stupid shit! My lady in my head is already in stand-by mode for about 20 years! She is the mayor, now! 😂lol
My ex once thought it’d be funny to yell stop while I was driving. She didn’t know I learned to drive by my psycho dad who trained me to slam on the brakes when he’d yell stop 😂
At that point youre not even training for the road, just how to pass. Did the same for school, its not about knowing the material. Its about knowing enough to pass.
@@thesaviorofsouls5210That's how I graduated. Don't do your work when it's due. Do it all at tye last minute and turn em in at the end of the grading period to get full credit. Slept thru the first 5/7 classes my senior year, never held back

In South Africa they don't say stop, they bang the dash board to add to the thrill and excitement of your already stressful test cos our traffic is very unpredictable 😅
I was told to STOP twice, the second time was a with a whack on the dash my heart was beating so fast. He laughed and said I did great. Also there was one road with a few potholes and I asked if they want me to avoid them or not... cause my instructor told me only drunk people drive in a straight line and not to spill his coke😂
You are probably one of the few that got asked to stop like that, never asked me when I did my licence in Edenvale, the dude just got in, put the seat back and laid back the entire ride. He just said left, right, left, right and thats it. Whn I forgot check my blind spots once he looked at me and I looked at him and he literally just said ''fok it you pass, you can go back'' I think he was just not in the mood to be there.
if u don't do that u fail your driving test with her😂😂😂😂 idk if only she does that but she will fail you over all if u don't check around after an emergency break
@@jayg1316 Why do they test emergency braking?... to test if you'd kill someone or not, to test response times, to test the skill taught... why do we test anything?
Shes not even teaching them how to drive . Literally watched her take off points because the driver behind them were on the phone or "distracted" . The whole video they are literally focusing on the distracted driver and inturn became distracted. At no point should u be focusing on what the person behind you is doing in the cab of their vehicle. @@chadsworthgigafuckii598She was teaching her a lesson, making sure to know she noticed that the car was tailgating and made sure that she knew not to break too quickly lest the car tailgating them drove directly into them because of the fact that they’re distracted on their phone. It’s a small teaching moment while having a nice moment making fun of stupid drivers who do stupid things.
Why exactly does he have to check his rear blind spots? He's not changing lanes or anything? And it's not like anyone would be passing you on a road that small that fast, they'd be too panicked by the fact that you dead-stopped right in front of them. Not to mention afterwards they just continue going straight forwards.
@@picklelover6576 The fact that you make assumptions such as "And it's not like anyone would be passing you on a road that small that fast" is the cause of a lot of accidents btw.
@@picklelover6576Cylcists, pedestrians, kids, etc. Really you should always be periodically checking your mirrors and blind spots on the road, but especially if you're about to take off. I've had cyclists cut me off when I was about to start driving after a complete stop. If I hadn't checked my blind spot, i'd have hit them. I've also had people cross the street right in front of my car as i'm about to take off.
@@diamondgarcia9409Same I was a rude teenager when I got my license haha straight up told the dude who was giving me the test I’m not doing it and drove back to the place where my mom was. @@taquitobandito6054 it’s a good maneuver to learn. You won’t need it everyday but there’s a few things you can apply to your everyday driving from it.
i failed my first test because when i did this, the passenger seatbelt didn’t lock and the teacher smashed her head in the dashboard. funniest thing i’ve seen my whole life Edit: everyone is asking why I failed so here it is. Where i'm from, you have to verify that the security features (seat belts, air bags, hand brake, etc) all work fine and I never looked at if her seatbelt worked. It was an automatic failure.
I got marked down because my instructor told me to stop in front of the mail boxes. Parking infront of them illegal, so I passed it and stopped. Then she asked why I didn't stop at the mail box. Gave my reasoning. She told me to pay attention. Lmao. K bud.
Lmfao that’s hilarious because mine literally HELPED me parallel park cus I couldn’t do it 😅 he grabbed the wheel and EVERYTHING. He was talking to me the whole time, the most seemingly chillest driving instructor you could’ve ever gotten. I was 2 points away from failing though because he marked me off for every time I didn’t look Left then Right when crossing an intersection, even if it was a green light going through. He was very passionate about always looking both ways no matter what kind of intersection because of people who run red lights and kill people. I completely understood but it was a wild test nonetheless 😂
@@FartInYourFace234 You are weird. Tbh I'm glad she's like that. Too many drivers that shouldn't have passed drive now. I see 2 to 3 accidents everyday now. Not only does it cause massive dmg country wide, it's why insurance is expensive and sucks ass, it's why lawyers are getting filthy rich is why truck drivers have delays which in turn Jack's the cause of freight up. That's the most idiotic "test" I have ever seen. We have closed circuits where students learn emergency braking etc. - this is just going to ruin the driving instructors body over time. And obviously the car. And for what? Learning to hit the brake when you notice your passenger looking around, and then yelling stop?
@@DennisEldrupyes also what if someone out in real life yells at them to stop while ppl are behind you? I don't get this really it's not part of our tests in US but he is just supposed to stop abruptly when she yells without checking if it's actually safe to do so?
