Can't go wrong on sound on this, well worth the money ! If you can afford one please they really sound great ,clear as water running seriously. Love it ❤
The automatic function is hardly ever available so this is a welcome addition for folks who are gettin' on in years- whose hands may tremble. A manual turntable is difficult to work when your hands have an inadvertent tremor. Nicely done!
@@LennyFlorentinenot having to stop what you're doing because you need to deal with the record player at the end is absolutely essential for too. I have only one album that actually repeats a cord in the end groove and yes I have woken up in the morning with that same cord playing still more than once. Yeah it's the second side of Sonic Youth's album Evo so it leads out into it perfectly and it's very hypnotic...almost guaranteed to to put you to sleep in a comfy chair, beer and indica may have been a contributing factor here😊. Thinking about it I think Sonic Youth may have designed it not to trip the auto stop as I was using a Philips 212 electric with a auto stop mechanism at the time. A neat turntable by the way. It used a photo sensor with a triangular shaped window that would get smaller as the tonearm swept across the record and just stopped the platter from turning. It also had touch sensors with a little green ring that light up indicating the function. Oh yeah the engagement threshold was also a somewhat touchy affair to adjust too😮.
If you have a manual turntable and you want the arm to lift at the end of a record, Audio-Technica has a marvelous little accessory called the AT6006R Safety Raiser that does just that. Been using one for more than forty years. Still works like a champ.
This is awesome. I will now recommend this to friends who want a turntable but aren't going to spend crazy money (like us). Love the white version too! Thanks for giving us the inside scoop friend.
So excited to pick this up and waiting on my microlinear stylus! Have some edifier 1280bt to complete my set up. Thank you guys for your review from this newbie!
Okay, quite interesting that there appears to be no counterweight or anti-skate function available on this model. You'd think that if one were going to swap out the stock conical for something like a Shibata or Micro line, that they would be able to adjust the tracking force and anti-skate accordingly (to ensure no damage is done), like on most TT's. To be fair, now that it occurs to me, I get that the anti-skate might already be built into the arm, much like U-Turn's Orbit models. But that still leaves the question of why it lacks adjustable counterweight. Am I missing something here? Whatever the case, you might say I'm kinda on the fence about this one until I find out more details than the video shared.
The weight is pre determined because the cartridge never changes, just the stylus, so that’s all built in. Makes it much easier for the majority of people to use it.
@@LennyFlorentine Quite an interesting design curve! Well, that certainly makes for greater ease of use. So knowing that as I now do, I might just be off the fence about this after all. Can it be confirmed for sure whether anti-skate is built into the arm?
Audio-Technica! They made my favourite on-the-ear, electrostatic headphones. Those cans revealed music I'd never heard before. I wore them out decades ago after decades of use. These turntables look nice. At my age, I doubt if I could even hear the reduction in sound quality over BT, but... A Bluetooth turntable? What's the point?🤣
BT is good for headphones but also if you want your turntable in a spot around the room that’s not where your system is. I’ve done this several times and it can be a lifesaver in awkward setups, or maybe you want the turntable by your listening chair.
@@LennyFlorentine Now THAT is a spectacular idea! How many times I can remember sighing and climbing out of my chair to flip the record...wishing I could do it from my chair? What an awesome idea! Being a nearly-deaf, old geezer now...I say...who cares about the sound quality, anyway? Gimme that Bluetooth convenience! Mahalo for putting this new idea into the dusty, mothball-filled closet that now serves as my brain! Aloha!
Just ordered this on your and others recommendation I may want a receiver soon mostly cause I still like the radio and want to build a little rack system over time. Child of the 70s and 80s :) I am not an audiophile and avoiding that rabbit hole personally:) Do you have a recommendation for a receiver? And thanks !
Big time newbie here. I know nothing about turntables or record players as we used to call them back in the day. I have a few questions: 1. With the majority of today's music recorded digitally, is there still a very noticeable difference in sound between vinyl and CD/streaming? 2. Does using Bluetooth from a turntable to speakers change the sound since it is going from analog to digital? I just really want to have a good understanding before dropping $300-$400 on a turntable set up when I already have a decent digital set up.
There’s definitely differences for better or worse depending on the album. Bluetooth is always gonna be worse than a direct connection, but it’s convenient. Vinyl gives you something tangible that streaming cannot. This is probably the perfect table for your needs
Isn’t the whole point of LPs the “superior” analog sound? What is the point of then putting that signal through an ultra compressed digital format like Bluetooth uses? If you are going to use Bluetooth speakers or headphones you might as well just stream through your phone and save $250.
From my point of view, it's OK. It's an extra feature that may help someone building a hiFi System... If you start with the turntable and already have some bluetooth heanphones/speakers, that's a start... you don't need to wait until you can fork out more cash for an amp and speakers.... I'm researching now for a turntable for my son... He want's to use it in his room, be he hasn't got an amp yet... but he already has some powered speakers and bluetooth headphones, so that will have to do until I can get him an amp and speakers of his own...
@@carpandrei7493precisely what I did I just got mine and I don’t have any other way to play my records right now besides Bluetooth until I get my speakers. I do have a question. I have some head phones that are wired will I need to buy something else to be able to use them on this turntable??
@@venum98 I also looked into this, you'll need a headphones amplifier. You'll have just the RCA from line out/phono out and that output is not really usable for connecting headphones. An amplifier would be needed. Either you get a prper amp and use it's headphone outpu until you get your speakers... or get a headphone amplifier. When I looked into this topic I decided that I'll get more worth out of buying a second hand amplifier that paying for a new headphone amp.
@@RyAn-hc5dj If the sound bar has an analog input (either a 3.5 or dual RCAs) try hard wiring the turntable to it to see if it sounds different (hopefully better 😃).
I've been looking at this turntable all weekend in the UK. It's a bank holiday here. Monday off too. I was hoping to collect one and get some good use of of over the weekend but can't get one anywhere unless i order for delivery next week. I guess I'll have to wait.
It looks like a winner and I can't wait to get my hands on one. Thank you for the great video, I have a quick couple of questions if I may. Why doesn't audio technical include a USB drive slot for recording vinyl on the fly without hooking it up to a computer? And why don't they make anything for the fans of portable players? My dream portable would play three speeds I have interchangeable stylus ability like this one and have a USB slot for onboard recording without the need to hook it up to a computer a lot of us final collectors like to record our vinyl and listen to them on the go on our computers or car systems etc. without having to depend on cloud. I hope they make some thing for us in the near future
I just bought the white version 'cause that's how I roll 😋 It's a very nice design, it looks like a well polished deck with that lovely VM95 cartridge. I like the conical "C" stylus, but it;s so nice to get my paws on any of the upgrade stylus' that make this a VERY versatile deck. It's really not much different from the older LP60 otherwise. I see no reason to upgrade if said LP60 is working fine for you, but if you're just starting off, this is easily the better choice. Nice review, I like insider info 😉
Did I miss you talking about vertical tracking force? What is it? Can it be changed? Conical generally needs more than elliptical or shibata. I get that AT wants to sell styli, but I'd rather have a cheap used p-mount.
Amazing review. I am not new to vinyl; just had a twenty year pause. I have a lot of old records and I want something that we can put on the bookshelf and just chill out with. I only have 13 inches of depth so this will fit and I will get the speakers as well. One question. Can you link up a blue tooth television to these speakers as well? I want some streamlining.
Sony PS-LX310BT designers please take note on the detachable stylus. I think LP Gear Eliptical is the only supplier that will allow you that upgrade on your unit. I understand they colloborated with Audio Technica to produce the elliptial stylus for the SONY PS-LX310BT
i recently got this turntable and I keep having issues with the needle skipping. It keeps happening on records that i previously had no problems with skipping on. I know the other stylus's mainly impact the sound quality/fidelity but is there anything I can do to keep the record from skipping so much? is there some adjustment I can make to the needle arm to keep that thing down?
Yeah... I'm also researching for a first turntable for my son... and I swear, sometimes it seems like people make it difficult on purpose to get into vinyl records if you haven't spent a lot of cash on equipment... I was 5 years old when I learned how to use my grandmas turntable (an old radio/turntable combo, tube based... don't remember what year it was built...). That thing had no tracking force adjustment, no antiskating adjustment... I have zero idea what cartridge it used (but it was a detachable one... because of course I had to try and take it out). And man I had a blast with it. The turntable was a tool, having fun and enjoying the music/stories was the purpose... not the tool itself. If you take care of the records, you're good to go. I sometimes think the community around a certain topic forgets what the primary goal is: to listen and enjoy the music, in your favorite format...
Why do we love vintage? Because it never goes out of style and stereo will never be obsolete. It seems a great way for people to play their vinyl without having to worry about adjustments and settings and all the other mechanics of most turntables. And their easy stylus upgrade path seems great. But I worry not being able to replace the cartridge makes it a throw away item when as with so many cartridges and styluses becomes unavailable in 5-10 years.
Hey quick question I am a pretty experienced buyer of turntables and such but I can only find these entry level videos I want one that will last longer than my last one did since it was so cheap (only lasted 6 months before it just stopped working took it to shops and they told me it was a 200 dollar repair minimum) I want a turntable at around 600 dollars but and quality speakers that won’t break so soon just if you see this that would be great to get some help
Why no any Audio-Technica turntable offers AptX HD support. All my Bluetooth speakers and headphones have Aptx HD. What is the problem to have at least one model supporting that codec?
normally if they are turned around the right side( not refering to the right phone)they normally feel unconfortatble, but maybe some new ones one doesn´t notice the diference i´m still using a set bought in the 70´s, i bought some sennheiser 660hs or similar but find the older ones better in sound quality and didn´t costed that much compared with this new ones
Looking at replacing my AT-LPGO-BT. Would this be considered a big upgrade or should i look at a different tier? Trying to find something better between 250 - 400.
@LennyFlorentine awesome man!! Trying to get something that my klipsch reference speakers would go good with. Your awesome brother! I watch your travels as well and appreciate what you do!
Newbie here - I have previously been looking at the LP120XBT, but now the LP70 caught my eye - can anyone recommend one over the other? Price range is fine for both.
@@LennyFlorentine thanks for the quick reply. Leaning towards the 70, also because of the sleek look to be honest. Performance wise - I guess both are good for someone starting off. You said a change in stylus makes a big difference already, got a good recommendation for one?
The Only thing I would have Changed would be to make the Tone are available with the changeable Head Shell , yes 25 bucks more but a better Cart All Around is what I'm looking for !
Odd that they didn’t include counterweight. The tone arm end looks like there is room for it. Maybe the automatic function doesn’t work with the weight. 🤷♂️ Looks nice though.
Since the headshell is integrated and the stylus inserts all weigh the same, you don't really need an adjustable counterweight, which is generally used to compensate for a range of different cartridge bodies.
how does the anti-skating works in the turntable you´re showing , i used to buy boxes covers , arms and stylus from AT in the 70´s they were the best brand for turntable parts ,the best in the world at the time as said by many not only me, before AT i used to buy SME but it was not so good and the geometry to install the arm on a turntable was way to complicated to buy those strange SME arms without any sense, i guess most of the SME users don´t even know that there is a perffect spot for a arm to be installed they only install them on the hole it came with the original arm
Have exactly the same question. It seems that LP3XBT is a bit better, can change the headshell/cartridge also and has adjustable counterweight/anti skid. Also the price is not that higher, looking in Google search, you can buy it for just around 20 EUR more. But how important are the extra features, I am not sure. Would be nice to have side by side comparison with details explained.
@@LennyFlorentine Thanks so much Lenny for getting back! Seriously appreciate it. That is the direction I am leaning. Hard to get the girlie white one :) but I’ll live with the bronze if need be. This one seems to have many of the features I like with the fluance with the added automation. Manual may be for the serious but auto return makes me happy:)
Just pulled the trigger. Bought the bronze one and made sure I used your affiliate link. I recently bought a Audio-Technica AT-LP60X during prime day and it was a great price that day but perhaps to my good fortune it isn’t working so I must return it and I decided it was worth a bit more to get one with a removable cartridge. Thanks!
Guys, I really wish you would have spent a little more time on that stylus display with some better video on how the stylus fits into the groove. The camera was moving a lot, had troubles focusing on the subject... Or, maybe do a video about that. I mean, it's a good selling point for the LP70X, some more info would be welcomed. And if you already have a video about, or Audio tehnica has on their channel... than, my bad, I should have googled it first...
i think that a biginners turntable should be good as a young person if not happy with the sound will buy only cds for life, i myself started with a late 60´s pioneer and it was great made me try to find even better what is sad to me is that the late 60´s pioneer is still very good in sound with original cartridge this compared with turntables around 1.000€ ,plus the cartridge which the less expensive i saw with already some quality is a Grado prestige III Gold , now that they cost 200€ less than when they came out, it reads all sounds in a record , see it´s specifications
I always used to bang on about why so many people who reviewed entry level turntables never seemed to offer the Rega Planar 1 or 2. It wasn't until I realised that they're stupid expensive in the US because of import silliness. It's such a shame that you don't get them easily in the US as they would blow almost everything out of the water. And the beauty of them is they're so upgradeable as they're the same platform across the models. I bought one many years ago and added bits. It's something like a Planar 5 now.
@@Error2username No they aren't the same. Rp1s are a couple of hundred quid. They're FAR higher in the US and still reap awards from experts. You might not like them, but please do demonstrate your evidence on why they're worse please. Actual empirical data
Love to hear feedback on various brands, Rega is interesting. I know a lot of people that love them, but I’m not in that camp yet. But it’s not to say I never will be. I also like automatic tables which is probably why I don’t use them often. Thanks for sharing! Appreciate feedback!!
@@LennyFlorentine No problem. Yeah, if you're into automatic then maybe not the best choice. The reason I recommend Rega is they're robust and last and sound great - they have great separation and really good neutral sound.
@@jimsregaturntableshifijukebox Yes that's what I said - they're upgradeable. The point is this video is about entry level and even at the entry level not only is great (it has won awards for decades after all) but because of the upgradeability it makes it a good consideration). I don't know why you brought up such points that I didn't make.
who else freaked out when the door to the sound proof room was being closed? my whole body convulsed!!!!! on the product note - this is a great video - super excited. Thank you
If you sre left alone in one of those chambers alone ..it will drive you mad. Seriously...it will make you go insane...you can hear your heartbrat, the blood in your veins, your lungs breathing...its wild .
That's great, but Bluetooth defeats the purpose to play LPs, which is higher sound quality! Bluetooth is pretty compressed! But that's just me, everybody different!😊
I’d say Bluetooth for me is more of a situational fix as I don’t use it unless I need to wear headphones or move the turntable away from the system. It also adds flexibility for teens that may wanna play their vinyl on the floor
Is Audio Technical paying you for the informational??? The turntable looks very nice but what wasn’t mentioned was no way to adjust the tone arm tracking force!! I have found that tables that have a factory set tracking tend to be heavy and ruin grooves on records Nice looking table but no way to adjust the force
Not a paid video, I’ve had a few questions about the tracking force so I will have to find that out. They overtest all their products so I’m sure it’s perfected, not sure if it’s adjustable.
weird you claim "but for a lot of people this is going to make a huge difference not only for looks and sound quality but to take care of your records to because a lot of what you guys are buying out there as your first turntable is probably killing your records" but no mention of what the tracking force weight is.🤨
You make me nervous. Just put the equipment on a table and be still. But this thing. It's basically a new p-mount. Tracking force is factory set but it can only use AT styluses. Not that there's much point to upgrading the stylus here.
Great content on your Channel. I have a couple of question? I Noticed there's no antiskid control, also Does the Audio-Technica AT-LP70X have an aluminum tone arm or is it plastic? Last question, Can you remove the head-shell for the styles? Thanks very much for your help and introducing this new Model for Audio-Technica.
That cartridge is not that great and been around for a decade. The needles cost pretty much the same or more as cart it comes on or the turntable itself. If i could change the cart id buy one. This is the future B&O turntable. I can see myself filing down the plastic edge to fit the stylus the previous version of this cart which is exactly the same cartridge. No improvements were made only the shape of the housing to make newbies spend 200 bucks on an a new stylus for the same product that was repackaged far longer than any modern cartridge on the market. I kind of wish you took the platter off and showed us the weight and if it seems light and has lots of ring to it which id expect them to cut corners on. Its a shame that the table was designed this way. The table is going to go the way of B&O and had soooo much potential. I was really looking forward to this table but the cart is a deal breaker for me
Entry level Fluance or similar is surely better unless you “need” automatic. These cheap non adjustable turntables are better than a suitcase player but for $200 you can do better.
i agree with this comment but to be fair this is for people who don't know/don't care about proper analog gear. AT makes some truly great cartridges for different price ranges but i don't like their turntable options in my opinion they have a cheap build and subpar specs.
