Sorry I missed you in Spain Jens. Just got back. Went to Barcelona to visit our mutual friend Mauro Battisti. And thanks for turning me on to these guitarists.
Jens, thank you for including Chase Maddox in your video. He is a developing master of the music, on line technology, and creative educational approaches.
The first item to be noted is Jens genuine interest in helping us become better players. Second, we see he is generous and has an open mind. I only know of two of the collaborators in this piece, but saw some topics of interest. Something tells me Jens isn't outdoors very often. Nature and fresh air help keep us grounded. An occasional hike through the woods can be very refreshing!
@@JensLarsen Not surprising. I gave some thought to Denmark and the Netherlands and realized I don't know much about either country. Western history books contain scant information on them, and I never see either on international news. You, on the other hand, likely hear about the mass shootings and other insanity in the US on a near daily basis. The US, however, has many great forests, big and small.
@@danqodusk8140 Denmark has much more space than the Netherlands. It is bigger and about a third of the population. I do indeed hear a lot of stuff about the US, but I also hear about what happens here, and we have our own brand of nonsense as well.
Excellent idea! I like cooperations of all kind, someone always brings something new to the table and it is great fun to watch. Here are 5 more RU-vid jazz and fusion guitar channels that might be interesting for a future project: John Nathan Cordy, Ben Eunson, Jazz Guitar Licks, Stephen Down and Tina Jäckel.
And to think it was only 40 years ago I paid about 20 bucks and a six week wait to get a Jimmy Page cassette and tab lesson. Through Guitar Player magazine. Good on you Jens for being a cool guy and sharing these other great teachers ! I knew of Chase and Sandra, and drop in on them regularly , with these new cats I’m gonna be busy! Cheers from 🇦🇺👍🍻
Wow. Your lesson was so simple and effective. I heard the examples and I instantly had to get my guitar and try it. Thanks and definitely subbed for more!
Wow!!! Awesome video Jens 🔥 Thanks so much for including me in the company of these brilliant players & educators, you’re so damn good at making these by now…inspiring!
Thanks for putting this together, Jens, and for including me. You're a such great teacher and player - and *storyteller*! Also: It's really nice to see you outdoors. 🌲
Which advice was your favorite, and is there a teacher you want to recommend? 🙂 If I started Jazz Guitar in 2023, then I would do this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FwJhr4UOhcE.html
So wonderful to see so many amazing guitar teachers! Thanks Jens for helping build this great community! Everyone’s lessons were very informative and thoughtful
Thanks, Jens, they are all excellent! This is more a reflection of where I am now as a guitarist, but I especially LOVED Richard Peña's exercise as well as Chase Maddox's and Alon Albagli's. They're going to be part of my daily routine for the next couple of weeks.
So awesome to see so much talent here. Quick and to-the-point lessons that more than give much to work with, and also allows for creativity with how you utilize these exercises.
WOW ! What an excellent video. EVERYONE on it had great tips for playing / learning. Years ago, I had to drive across town (about one hour) to see my old teachers. (They were worth it - but the drive wasn't fun). Now, I just turn on my computer and get great lessons like this. I feel spoilt - and save petrol too. All you guys should get the Nobel Prize in Guitar for making this video.
Hey Jens, super collab ! Great to see Alon get the platform he deserves. Request you to check out Daniel Weiss whenever you catch a moment - modern jazz guitar monster who teaches on YT.
You're Welcome! Perhaps the folks would be interested to know since the diminished scale features "symmetrical harmony", one can also play a Minor Tetrachord starting from the A & Eb notes. This is a Great Video and Wonderful Resource for all the Aspiring Jazz Guitarists. Thanks, Jens!
Excellent stuff! Also worth checking out Nathan Borton for great technical bebop advice, Rotem Siven for the spiritual side of improvising and the fantastic Achim Kohl for his great instructional videos (with no commentary).
Hi. This was very useful, THX!! Since you asked, I suspect that many of the viewers for this video would appreciate the playing and teaching approach of Oz Noy.
Great video Jens, I keep visiting the sites of some of the tutors and innovative guitarists reviewed (Mikko, Sandra and yours). But: I benefited most from the excellent transcriptions by Francois Leduc.
Which is the best of these completely depends on the tune your working on, and what the cats you're playing with are doing that night. These are all great tools. The great artist has learned to decide when and where which tool is most appropriate.
Hi Jens, thanks for the intro to Adam Levy. I've enjoyed his laid back style, but I had no idea what a great player he is! Reminds me a little of Bill Frisell , but very approachable.
Thanks Jens, a really great post & some great advice. Adam Levy was new to me, slowing down, and listening to relaxed delivery, I've learned so much. I'm not surprised he mentioned Advancing Guitarist (M. Goodrick) Many of us are limited by forces that have nothing to do with technique. Thanks.
What a great video! I’ve just spent a very happy hour playing bebop triads after the inspiration from Richard and Alon. More of this kind of thing please!
Great content as always Jens, thanks to everyone involved. I would suggest Robbie Barnby as a future channel to link up with, I think you will like the content he posts.
I liked the suggestions from Quist and the last chap best. I almost bought one of Sandra's courses or books once, but for some reason I didn't in the end! Great idea for a video - good luck with your tour!
Hello Jens. I am a big fan of you. Thank you for introducing Chase who is my favorite channel! Thanks to many great online teachers, including you and Chase, I consistently practice jazz guitar by myself.
Another couple months worth of jazz guitar lessons packed into a Jens RU-vid post. Three things stood out - one - first time I have seen Richard Peña - and WoW what an introduction - that was a sweet gem of a lesson, two - I took lessons from Quist for about 18 months and he made more transformation in my playing than any teacher in my life, and three - it's so generous of you, Jens, to share other teacher's approaches. It's quite the community of cool, helpful people. All of your colleagues get a standing ovation. Thank you. 👏👏👏
Thanks Jens for a great post. All these folks bring such diverse ideas, which is wonderful. Adam Levy was new to me. Almost like taking a private lesson. Great to bring these folks together in one video. So much out there for guitarists, lots of junk to wade through. This is solid stuff.
Robbie Barnby is also a great teacher. And thank you Jens for your lessons, I have learnt so much from you, Chris Parks and Barry Harris, just to mention a few. It makes me really look forward to studying the guitar.
It is difficult to give too specific advice because everybody is different and at different levels, but maybe check out this post: jenslarsen.nl/how-to-learn-jazz-guitar-suggestions-to-begin-studying/
Thanks Jen. I’m already lost with the infinite RU-vid guitar offer, but thanks anyway. Maybe i just should quit the guitar and become just a RU-viddigger 🤣
I've seen a couple of great videos from Chris Brennen here on RU-vid. #chrisbrennanguitar He's not Jazz so much as Bluegrass which I find has some outstanding picking techniques that add to the jazz flavored movements. Definitely worth checking out for sure!! 🤠👍
This was great. And so many comments. I would suggest one other person you might include in future: Adam Smale and his Jazz Rocks with Adam channel. I think he is much underrated and his best lessons, such as Jazz Improvisation, Cracking The Code: Nine Levels, are tops. Lots more on his channel....
KUDOS to you Jens, and all the people on this vid, and all the other fabulous people who openly share their knowledge with the world. I can say that personally, it has all helped me tremendously over time. YOU DA MAN JeNS.
Hi Jens, first like to thank you for all your materials and great subject on music. For me players teachers that sher there knowledge and make it available is so interesting. I follow for some time Daniel Weiss and I love the way he present is lessons great player. And also Mike Hayes. Like both of them.
Gregg Fine is great. He digs into Chick Corea’s solo on Spain with a transcription along with an incredible analysis of the theory and how to apply to your own work.
So many new ideas in one concise package! You’ve done it again - I need a 30 hour day to find enough time to experiment with these ideas - before you hit me with the next idea(s)!
This is why I love love love your channel! Aside from the generous spirit of cooperation - I'm gonna check out all of these great artists - you once again do what you do best, which is to give a simple and beautiful framework for generating ideas. You could have just tossed us a fish but instead you gave us fishing rod to troll the depths of our imagination. I just caught some great big new ideas thanks to this lesson!
So much wisdom and experience is presented here, Jens. You are an amazing teacher and I greatly appreciate everything you do. I really liked the idea of a collaborative effort with such great musicians. Thank you for including Sandra Sherman’s contribution. Personally, I think her channel is overflowing with great lessons.
Lots of great ideas here. I think the best exercise probably depends on where one is at in the learning process. For me, right now, Quist's idea to focus on rhythm is spot on.
Such great teachers and a wealth of knowledge thank you 🙏 for putting this together. It was cool to see @QuistJam as I have spent hours practicing improv over his jam tracks.
Jens, this is really fantastic. What a great idea. I was aware of Sandra, as I follow her along with your channel. But combining everyone was a great idea. Thanks for putting this together.
Really well put together video as ever Jens. A few recommendations I've discovered are Jazz Guitar Scrapbook, Mike Bacarella and Jazz Guitar with Andy. All different, but all great at what they do
