I used to be an almost exclusive expanded player. Now without my battle compressor and other goodies from older sets, it just doesn't feel the same :( I hope they do release older stuff, but something tells me that is so far off their radar that it will just never get done.

It's crazy that the absurdly busted trainer cards are pretty much only from BW/XY. This format might actually be much slower without the going-2nd power plays that are pretty much mandatory in regular Expanded (unless you play shadow rider / regidrago? / ultra necrozma?)

I think it would be nice if there was a sub-category to expanded where it included the XYBW cards, as it feels completely different playing live’s expanded vs Online’s expanded. This way people can play the way they want.

But the old expanded had also some absurd archetypes like the Lugia VSTAR/DDE, the 8 doll stall deck or the turn 1 Latios donk. I really hope that if they are taking their time to bring expanded back, they will at least update the ban list in order to have a playable format.

@@gabrielcastillo9745 If they update the ban list to include some more cards, I think that would heal the meta a bit. I’d say both Pheromosa GX and Latio EX, Lillie’s Pokédoll (not robo sub because Lillie’s can be looped naturally), DDE, Archeops (let’s be honest, Lugia VSTAR isn’t all that broken without Archeops), and probably some others I haven’t thought of yet.

Similar to my list, but I'm playing one forest seal and one sky seal stone instead of the trekking shoes and u-turn board instead of air balloon since the only thing with >1 retreat is volcarona itself. It beats everything in this weird format because there aren't too many things that play this fast with no double dragon, no wally, no vs/compressor etc.

So annoying. Expanded is literally the only reason I place pokemon online. But honestly trying to play expanded without double dragon energy, float, compressor, muscle band, sky field, silent lab, ace spec, vs. seeker, etc. is very difficult and not even remotely as fun.

Honestly I don't hate a Sun and Moon onwards expanded format. We get rid of that stupid Lugia donk deck, the 8 doll stall deck or the turn 1 attack Latios. But having to play the casual ladder makes it so that 90% of all matches will be an auto win if you play a half decent deck, it just isn't worth it

He most likely won't because TCG Live doesn't support Black and White or XY cards yet and even if it did, GLC seems like the kind of format that is best experienced when creating your own deck rather than having someone tell you what is good.

try eternatus vmax with zoroark gx as draw engine (+ Trickster gx) and darkrai gx its amazing. Add a galar slowbro incase you need to 1hko something with darkrai gx attack. darkrai gx can be used as fodder for zoroark and summoned to board same turn

The problem with all these decks are they lose too many of the main cards they need to function like Seeker, Compressor, Double Dragon Energy and Trainers Mail. Statistically, the best PTCGL 2023 deck will be an expanded meta deck that remains the least altered. I've found the Girafarig Shock Lock list not only remains mostly intack, but with VS Seeker not being playable, thrives in the current format.

Just sun and moon and above. Prior to sun and moon don't work which really sucks. So no battle compressor, no float, no silent lab, no garbador, no vs seeker, sky field, ace spec, etc.

Unfortunately the worst part about this meta is actually needing to play Live, which I likely won't. Unless there are busted going-2nd decks, a Vmax type of deck such as Shadow Rider might be the play, because those are good going first. Shadow Rider doesn't lose much, just SIlent Lab and we get budget-Wobbuffet (the new Klefki). I wouldn't trust Pikarom unless it can actually pull off an attack going 2nd consistently (which could be the case with koko prism and thunder mountain), needing to attack with Boltund to accelerate energy is only good if this format is slow enough. A deck like welder/mewtwo box can probably do well as a going 2nd consistent attacker. I only believe in ADP if it can do going 2nd altered creation consistently, which gets nerfed due to no double dragon energy. Other degenerate strategies available can go from anything that can exploit Max Potion to the end of format Doll Stall, but nobody will care enough to develop control / floodgate decks unless there's a serious enough tournament for it.

The top tier deck I think is Calyrex Vmax or at least this is the deck I find the most challenging (and you are missing Radiant Rayquaza in your list). This is why I built my deck around dark type. Here is my recommendation if you want a fun deck for expanded that is competitive in expanded. It is very flexible and can be customized easily to adapt to just about any situation. You may have to change the format by going to the main menu, clicking Casual, then clicking the badge to go to Expanded.

Outside of SR, decks that play Forest Seal Stone need to play Lumineon V over Lele.

trevnoir is actually way, way better in this format than you're giving it credit for, an early pale moon gx vs basically any deck will hard counter it (lugia, other shadow rider decks, adp or zacian, blissey, pikarom, etc etc etc) + you can follow up with a night watch for whatever they send in next. the only problem is that you have to run with air balloon instead of float stone so its easily the worst starter to lead with

ADP isn't really that good. Not having double dragon energy forces you to find more resources to pull the AC off. And using AC + KO + KO isn't different from KO + KO + KO.

@Spiritus_Fortis Not really because its extremely slow and AC is useless if you don't set up your board besides just ADP. You're committing a lot of drawing / searching just to pull off Altered Creation which is just bad. ADP in regular Expanded isn't good anymore either (hence why the lack of it or the lack of success on Limitless) but the GuzHala line was stronger because that was the only card you needed to pull of AC, simplifying the process and allowing to set up your board easier. Here on Live, no DDE means you're committing yourself to finding more resources at the cost of being more likely to set up your board. You lose to faster pace decks that end up taking prizes early on and setting up their board much quicker than you. The only time you can get AC going better is against slower decks like Shadow Rider, which then AC is not bad.

ADP Zacian is good af it's just a highroll. AC + KO + KO is easier with +30 damage, and discarding half your deck invites a quick strategy. I always kill ADP immediately. But there's little you can do to stop saucer + saucer + gust + brave blade twice in a row aside from your opponent whiffing. Better not bench Dedenne

@@nix4110 You do realize that Miraidon does what Zacian does but way more efficiently and consistently? 1 Guzhala play nets you everything you need to pull off a turn 1 KO to where AC doesn't really make much a difference. The only difference is pulling off a T1 KO for 2 prizes instead of Altered Creationing and taking 2 KOs afterwards: -Either start with Miraidon in opening hand or use ball search card for it -Lumineon for Guzhala -Thunder Mountain, Speed Energy, air balloon if you need to retreat active or forest seal stone to grab something like dedenne to keep digging, or grab a miraidon itself -Tandem unit for Miraidon + koko -Attach to miraidon, draw 2, koko onto miraidon -Retreat active and swing for 220. KO + KO + KO isn't really different from AC + KO + KO apart from the fact you have to commit more resources into setting up your field than Miraidon does. That won't be apparent to ADP players because they're too stuck thinking about +30 / Extra Prizes when in reality you could just take a turn 1 KO and effectively be 4-6 in your favor which is still 2 KOs anyways. DIfference being is that you give your opponent a better opportuntiy to generate better advantage over you because you're electing to commit a lot of resources just to pull off an attack that ends up being pointless if your opponent again, generates better advantage over you. Expanded is a resource and sequencing format, which is even more apparent in a BW/XY less format where you have more lines to set up and attack. That's why miraidon is just objectively better than ADP Zacian because it is way more efficient at achieving what its trying to do. Again, ADP Zacian requires you to commit more resources in setting up a turn 1 altered creation, which even if you do and pull off setting up the zacian v, miraidon gusts the following turn and now you have to commit more into setting up another zacian.

@@loremaster77 I don’t know much about expanded Miraidon but 220 dmg and HP is not threatening. In the hypothetical Miraidon vs ADP/Zacian, if Miraidon leaves ADP alive and gusts Zacian then slap a choice belt on ADP and KO something for 210 dmg while setting up another bench mon. If they don’t gust then you will never need to gust anything and you can put a cape on zacian. Everytime I played against Miraidon they just bricked The thing about Zacian is that the 30 dmg over 3 KOs is a lot. Zacian cant hit 280 without it and you have to find 3 gusts or 3 belts rather than just 2. This is in ideal scenarios. If either party bricks then having ADP and AC up is probably helpful. And it also helps secure wins against single prizer decks

@@bulbibulbo3173 This this list trash. Drago not having compressor impacts it quite a bit and relying on basic energies makes it more prone to being outpaced by other decks. Girafarig is also much stronger in this format.
