Just got a 8ft ultra lite. Best rod I've ever had. I like the length for the castability because I fish from the bank. The thill wobble bobbers are crazy good for long casting. I highly recommend it !

Yes been fishing for 55 years and I still go to this set up. I also fish ultra light with a smaller rod and reel with 2 to 4 lb. test. Great for ponds, creeks, and if you trout fish it's the way to go. Keep it really really simple and use what works.

Hey brother, thanks for the straightforward advice. I have had enough ‘philosophy of fishing’ videos that can’t answer the simple question “what is the best versatile, all-round combo to buy as your first set-up?” without going into reams of context about species, bait and conditions. If I knew specifically what species, bait and conditions I would be fishing I would probably be looking for something other than the most versatile basic set-up I could find. Anyway, thanks for the straight talk including the phrase, “this is what I grew up on.” That always makes me feel better for some reason! Cheers!

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel ru-vid.comUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

*Very happy with it of this telescopic fishing pole with case. We travel in a RV so space is limited. Assembly was a snap following the included instructions. Within 1 hour I had a fully functioning fishing pole and even caught a 21” Snook as my first fish. I have since caught many other sizes and varieties without any issues whatsoever.*

Great video. I am getting back into camping on a motorbike and have space for just one travel rod which needs to be under 1m long and do anything. I ended up with the 3 piece 7' 3-6 kg medium Abu Garcia and a Shimano Sienna C3000 running an 8kg line. Great general purpose setup.

My fav setup for everything literally is just a 2000 spinning reel with a 5’6” light rod. For line depends, if it’s trout or steelhead, 4 or 6lb mono/fluoro. If it’s anything else I use 10 lb braid (powerpro)

For bass fishing (and fishing in general) fron the bank a 6ft to 6 1/2 ft Medium 2 piece rod with a spinning reel with at least 3 bearings spooled with extra tough 10lb mono is pretty much universal. I can get between trees fairly easily with the rod length the two piece really helps in transit if u have a car medium rod gives that extra bounce for long cast but still enough backbone for long hook sets and the medium spinning reel with 3 bearing wont wear you out to much and worka most lures well. The 10lb mono can be fished with any lure it's perfect for topwater ( I've pulled 7+ lb. Largemouth through sense hydrilla with this setup you dont need 1000lb braid ) it gets crankbaits down decent from the bank and worms and jigs as well. I would just get extra tough line since your going to put it through the ringer fishing like this.

@@cameronsmith3207 its the tensile strength 10lb means it is advertised to break at 10lbs of tension
@12345shushi
@12345shushi 2 года назад
@@cameronsmith3207 The thing is that if you are experienced at fishing and know of proper rail rod technique, you can get away with less tensile string strength for your target fish (hell if you're japanese you could probably even catch a 20-40lb monster with like a 3lb straight floro) (as well as lighter rod+reel with customizations mostly for comfort and accuracy) without having to worry about breaking the line or equipment. A lot of these parameters, like Power, Action, water drag weight, types of local and common fish you will most likely catch, and specific types of custom mods, etc you will pick up on when you fish a lot and learn from experience on what suits you. So it's always good to go with a bigger set up (make sure your line is always rated lower than your rod+reel) for your local fishes and invest a little more upfront (of course you don't want to break your budget and invest in like $2,000 200lb deep sea fishing gear for your local 8lb - 40lb fishes, more like $150 gear rated for around 20lb-50lb, or a little more money for good quality so you don't buy cheap equipement that fails and waste more because of that)

I love my baitcaster, but spinning is the shizznit. Wherever you drop that lure, it falls straight down. With a baitcaster it will "pendulum" back towards you possibly missing a suspended fish.

I'm liking this for everything but bigger fish like catfish and redfish where I'd be happy to use the same rod but I think 3000 is the minimum. I used to only use a rod like this with a 4000 for everything. I still use it for salt water, but when one of my reels fail I picked up a 2500 and it is great with braid for the lakes, rivers, and ponds and salt for most situations with fish under 10 pounds.

6'8 - 7'2 Medium fast or extra fast spinning rod 6'10 - 7'6 Medium heavy fast action casting rod. Listen just bite the bullet and buy both in the beginning. I say this because a 7ft spinning rod will cover a lot of things, but at some point you are going to want to fish heavier, more target lures. Buying both of these rods in the beginning means that you will fish the spinning rod, and have the casting rod to practice with and get over the learning curve so that you already have it when the your fishing calls for it, and it will call for it sooner than you think. Sure if your budget can only do one. The spinning rod it is, but if you can manage it just do yourself a favor and buy both the medium spinning and medium heavy casting. Those 2 setups alone will cover more lures and types of fishing than all the other more technique specific rods combined.

Good vid. I'm new to fishing and I'm not from the US. I've noticed that most information on youtube is not very universal, it's mostly very niched into catching a specific type of fish in a certain way in some sort. What newbie will go around and say "I want to catch a X fish and I want a combination that's adapted to catching that kind of fish"? A newbie most likely will want to catch A FISH, not a specific type of fish, a newbie will most likely also not want to a very niched setup, more likely a good allround combo that can be used in most situations. Also, as I said I don't live in the US and no where near a "pond" that seems very usual in the US. I only have a coastline to fish at, so most of the stuff people show off here on youtube doesn't really apply to my situation. People recommending bait casters for complete beginners are funny people as the spinning reel is more user friendly.
