The BEST Flies for Trout || Fly Fishing for Beginners (Streamers, Nymphs, Dry Flies) 

I think you should do an in depth video on streamer technique and what patterns to use where during a specific type of weather. You are a great streamer fly fisherman, I’d love to learn from your experience!

For a video idea, I’d like to know how you decide where to make each cast. Basically how you pick apart a pool or stretch of stream and when to move on.

I love these videos and appreciate how much time you must put into them. I think it would be cool if you did like tutorials on how to fish specific flies .I’m new to fly fishing and I think it would be super fun to get into but just don’t know how to. If you see this comment please consider what I am saying.🎣

Whenever I buy dry flies the first thing I do, after crimping the barb, is dip them in Fly-Agra. It's a great pre-treat floatant. Just dip the fly in the bottle and place on a paper towel to dry overnight. I can usually get a good 20-25 drifts before I have to gink it or use powder. And after a trip any dries that were used get dipped and dried before going back in the box.

I'd love to see a video on fishing with nymphs for beginners, I've heard nymphs are the way to go when you don't know what to tie on. But I personally don't know what a good setup looks like. One of the biggest mysteries to me with nymph fishing is how to tell when you've got a fish, so it would be super helpful to have a video going over some basic technique that you use. Thank you and great video!

I think what really helped me turn the corner in my fly fishing was tying too, even getting the little starter fly tying kit and a few mats spending winter watching a few vids and tying up some basics really lets you start to under stand some of the etymology and what the fish are keying in on. Getting those elk hair caddis, adams, princes, bwo's, stimmies, buggers and hare ears tied up and you'll start to get a feel of what you're targeting. Plus you get that excitement of catching on on your own tie. Like you said, a good drift is what matters most and will get you on some fish.

Would honestly love to see a video show your setups for your flies, wether you are using a dry dropper, or tight line nymphing, or even indicator nymphing. I think people would agree we struggle with the setup and how things should go when it comes to catching fish. That would help me learn how to rig up my flies how I should and what I should be doing compared to not doing. As always, great video, and beautiful catches! Been subbed for almost two years now and haven’t been disappointed!

I would love to see some tips on streamer fishing, because you seem to be really good at it (the best I have seen on RU-vid). I sometimes try it out and haven't had much success.. Do you use a full sinking line? poly leaders? Cast upstream, downstream or straight across? Love the content, keep it coming!

Fly fished about a dozen times years ago. My buddy took me to Lee's Fairy, White Mountains, Black River AZ, and Green River in Utah. Wow!! Now I want to get back into it solo. Love the videos!

Great basic information video,walk into a fly shop or go online & fly choices will blow your mind,being out west you definitely need a foam hopper (#12 or # 14),now dry flies parachute adams,Cahill or blue dun covers any mayfly hatch,nymph was surprised you didn't mention a prince nymph can't go wrong there & agree with you fly choice differs from person to person & confidence is a major player,tight lines & bent rods 🤙

One thing I’m super curious about is what weight/length rod you use depending on what area you’re in and what size fly you’re using for that rod. I have a 5WT 8ft and I’m not sure if I should get another size rod for maybe smaller streams. Your videos are the best, my favorite fly fishing channel hands down!!

Love the content!! For me my favorite fly to use are foam beetles, especially during the spring through early fall. I fly fish alot in Illinois and Indiana for creek chubs and sunfish primarily and they cannot resist those.

Super helpful tips! If it is possible, please do a dedicated streamer video. You are probably one of the best east coast streamer anglers that I've seen, you and Andrew are always catching hogs! Questions: do you use floating line or sinking, what type of streamers for certain water conditions, streamer colors, patterns, placement, etc.

Great content!! Man, I’m still catching big browns on my jig streamers I tie. This week, before the waters got blown out, I caught 4-18” browns, 1-19.5” and one close to 23”’s on the 4.5” sculpin olive Marabou style jig streamer. There are definitely some tricks to putting together a jig that attracts the bigger trout. I really enjoyed this video, great content!!!

Here’s a couple of hacks to help keep your dry fly floating: 1: wear a cotton shirt. When your fly gets wet, squeeze it into the sleeve of your shirt. The absorbancy of the cotton will pull most of the moisture out of your fly. Synthetic fibers are designed to not absorb water, so they don’t work nearly as well. 2. False casts help to dry your fly. If your fly starts to sink, just see if a couple extra false casts gets most of the water out. You might notice this works best on small streams where you make shorter casts, and your fly doesn’t get enough “air-time” to dry with just one or two back-casts. 3. When you catch a fish, you often get some blood or slime on your fly. You need to wash this off as much as you can, because the slime adds weight and naturally draws in extra moisture, causing your fly to sink. 4. If you don’t have floatant, use some of the natural oils that accumulate on your face. Oil repels water, and is lighter than water also. It doesn’t work as well as a good gel floatant, but it’s free and way better than nothing, and you’ll never drop it in the water! 5. Don’t use fluorocarbon tippet for dry flies. Fluoro sinks, and can pull your fly down with it. Monofilament is more buoyant. Of course the opposite is true-fluoro is great to help get your nymphs down.

I’ve always been a nympher myself. A #16 hares ear or pheasant tail has caught me hundreds of Erie steelhead.

My all time favorite fly/nymph is a walts worm or even the sexy walts 🤙🏻 all time go to for sure

In the Driftless Area a Pink Squirrel will catch Trout any time of the year and in all conditions. I'm told they work well outside the DA also. My general rule is if the fish won't bite on the Pink Squirrel, then it's time to go home or go to the bar!

My best friend and I named the beadhead hairs ear, Whitefish candy. Those Whitefish grow strong here in Utah and they love that fly. If your trout river has a lot of Whitefish, that is a good sign. At least out here in the West. It means you have a healthy river. =)

I used a black and red crystal bugger with a red bead and the trout were alllll over that thing until I lost it lol. But I got me 5 more of the same now. Hopefully they bite on them on my camping trip.

Man, I wish that I had wild trout streams near my place. All the trout within an hour of my house are stocked rainbows. The nearest wild trout are 2 and a half hours away, where there are still stocked fish. (I live in Arkansas).
