Love my Pixel Fold, but been thinking about getting the z fold 5 too 😂. I hear Google is opening a separate play store for foldables so that apps optimized for foldables are easily identified

I'm in the same situation too. I got the Fold for only $900 no trade-in through my carrier and now I have an opportunity to get the Z Fold 5 for only $800 with a trade-in of my Pixel 4XL. I could however trade in my S22U to Samsung and get the same credit but it would be unlocked. I plan on trading in my carriers phones for unlocked version anyways which I perfer. That's how I usually would do it, just get a promo with the carrier and then trade it in later with an unlocked version from the manufacturer. I don't like how carriers locked certain features away that's why I do it. So with the Fold I'm planning to trade it in for either the Z Fold 6 or Pixel Fold 2. At the end I like to always keep a Samsung phone and a Google one. It's the best of both worlds.

@@volcalstone yeah I like to keep a Google and Samsung phone too! I already ordered flip 5 with trading in my z flip 4. I have the s22 ultra, s22, and Pixel 6 pro that I may use for fold 5. I also still have the z fold 3 too. I also got my pixel fold for 900 through my carrier...phone addiction is real 🤭

@@glassman72 haha and here I thought I had it bad. Not to show off even more but I also got a unlocked Pixel 7 Pro but I'm giving that to my daughter so lucky her. The Flip 5 is looking nice this year but wish they made the outer screen 120Hz too. Call me spoiled on that HFR life! As for the carriers promos I figured that I'm stuck for another 3 years which I don't mind I might as well jump on another promo. 😉

This is painfully true because I'm a Samsung Long time user. I have the fold 4 and the 3 before that the front screen ja terrible and too narrow and let's face it we use the front a lot. I have to go see the Google in person to decide because I'm sonused to the Samsung UI love your reviews!!!!

With a few tweaks I've managed to get a consistent 8 hours or more screen on time on my Pixel fold with no issues at all. It easily beats my old fold4; only 6 to 7 hours. Sorry, I'm surprised that this is an issue. Do you own the phone?

I am Samsung Knight, but I always have a Pixel phone as well.. I actually prefer the UI of the Pixel phones much more.. but in my heart of hearts, I definitely prefer the z-fold 4 over the pixel fold in terms of how it unfolds.. the taller aspect ratio of the Z Fols is so much easier to hold one handed.. Even when I'm watching RU-vid and I decide to turn it horizontally, I often quickly turn it back to portrait.. not to mention more apps are optimized for the taller portrait mode... Now do I want the cover to be a little wider? Absolutely... I guess my preference would be wider AND taller

Not sure if you tried the Fold yet but you need to experience it to really know that the form factor is a lot better. Yes the Z Fold series is easier to hold on one hand while folded but using that screen is a joke imo. It's just to narrow to type on. The Fold which I do have is still manageable with one hand as it's thinner. I could reach the other side but at the same time if I wanted to type something with one hand then there are keyboard modes made for that which could be found with the Gbroad or Swiftkey. With the Fold you could actually use your outter screen without having the itch to open it up that's all I'm saying. I usually only open it up if I wanna do 2-3 apps or to view something in a larger format. Trust me I love Samsung phones and their UI. I got an S22U too and I'm going to be keeping that due to everything that it could do with an s-pen on the inside. I might pick up the Z Fold 5 tho but we'll see as I really want to wait for the Z Fold 6 instead.

Kudos man for the review! Finally someone being honest about the pixel fold. I was a long time Samsung user and i have owned nearly every foldable and S series samsung has lauched but i have grown tired of samsung pushing out these minimal upgrades to the hardware and software of their devices. This was the main reason i left Apple many years ago! I just purchased my first Pixel device, the pixel fold and i love it! I agree the build is premium, its super thin, and i finally got a front cover display i can actually text on without making constant texting errors. The design of the pixel fold just makes more sense cause when u open it, its already in tablet mode compared to the z fold when you open and have to rotate. I dont miss My Z fold 4 at all......

Don't need to own one It has the Tenor 2 and I have the Pixel 7 pro and I would not spend an extra £1100 for a device with it inside. It broke very very easily, finally the bend test has real relevance. It has UFS 3.1 £1750 No Victus 2 @£1750 No Stylus digitiser at £1750 82% screen to body ration at £1750 It can not open to 180° Midranges performance at £1750. Heat! These are the kind of thing software updates can never put right it's just not a £1750 unit.

I wanted to love it but no no no. Battery horrible. Heats up like crazy. I had cellular disconnects as well. And this is the second unit I tried. For 1800. Nah. Cameras are bad. Coming from 7 pro. Pictures are not crisp and more blurry. I'll wait for the 8 pro. This fold is a beta test for Google. And no, the phone does not overheat but it does heat up which affects performance. Whoever says otherwise is lying. Cpu temp monitoring shows CPU at 46 47 celcius. The tensor G2 is a no-go for this thin form factor. Google will not be able to fix it via software unless they limit the CPU speed..... Multiple day in the life videos. Most of them got so hot the phone could not take videos anymore. That can't happen with a 1800 dollar phone. Cheaper phones don't even have that problem. But nice detailed reviews and videos. I recently got on to your channel

Ive tried both and i like the z fold 4 outer screen ratio. I usually use my z fold while its folded. Im honestly confused as to why anyone wants to use two hands with the pixel fold while its folded. The pixel doesnt fit in my pockets while folded and my hands arent big enough to use it one handed. Most people i know with the z fold like the narrow display for portability and one handed use. It seems like the majority of people who have a problem with it are content creators that use another phone most of the time. If you can only afford one phone and only use one phone the z fold is the better phone. I really hope Samsung doesnt listen to them and ruin the z fold series to make it like the pixel. they should focus on more important issue like better cameras, better battery, and a s pen that works on the outer display.

I want to get a z fold so bad but the narrow screen is just too much of a change for me. I love using my phone one handed but narrowing the screen especially THAT narrow, doesn't feel right. I feel like it can be improved and having a better aspect ratio is just super important

Plenty of people complain about the narrow screen on Reddit/ Twitter etc so it's definitely just not content creators. Personally, the narrow screen is okay in my opinion and it's tolerable but I muchhh prefer the Pixel Folds outer screen. When I had my z Fold 4, I mainly just used the inner screen. With my Pixel Fold, I use the outer screen much more. But if ppl are going to choose 1 phone on which one is the best, then yes the Fold is better from an overall standpoint and it does a lot more and has a lot more features than the Pixel Fold. With that being said, I love the Pixel Fold.

I hated doing anything on the front screen for the fold 4. It didn't feel natural and barely fit in any of my pockets as it was thick or too tall. Women's pockets are also a joke so I take that into consideration. I'm coming from iPhone and can use the pixel fold one handed with no problems. They're about the same width. It's a tad heavy to rest it on the pinky so I use a grip. I'm not a big one handed person anyways. I can't use swipe keyboards to save my life 😂 so I understand why you'd prefer something narrow. I just think the galaxy folds are a bit too tall. Im hoping they make it just a little wider and shorter next time. Nothing too drastic since it's their signature design. I use the pixel closed at work and open it at home or when I'm still so I can fully enjoy the inside screen. It's so much easier to glance at it. Reply to texts, check email, search something or have multiple apps and widgets on the pixels front home screen (for me) than the fold4. But the great thing is that now we have options and you can stick to Samsungs form factor and others can get something a bit different. I do miss the super customization and multitasking features from the Samsung fold though, can't lie about that.

@@mkltattoos most definitely! I definitely miss the customization and everything that the z Fold brings to the table! In particular, “Goodlock” which is awesome! It’s great to have the power to customize your phone with a million different options lol. I know some people don’t like that though and want a basic experience which is what Google brings to the table. Both Folds are great in their own way. I’m looking forward to seeing what the One Plus Fold will bring to the table.

Okay, if I'm gonna be honest I like the Google operating system way, more then samsung's 1ui nonsense. That's that's why I use niagara launcher on the samsung galaxy Z, fold 3. Upgrading to the 5 has a bigger Front screen, better hinge. I also like the flat edges And candy bar shape of the z phones more than the flat slab that opens up to it even bigger slab of the pixel fold. I feel like one-handed use on The pixel fold would be impossible on the outer screen without software help. Not a fan of the pixel folds design, but we can just disagree on that 1. I want to see what they do for the pixel fold 2 next year.

If I was watching a YT video and put the Z down, when I picked it up again, the video was gone and I'd have to look for it again! Very annoying! I left a video on the PF and it stayed there overnight! I love the PF! ❤

Very interesting listening to your take on this. With my hands on of the pixel fold I agree with you as far as the build quality and the design itself. They created a beautiful phone. The only thing I can't get behind is the tensor chip. I like for my foldable to be a powerhouse because I use it for emulation. I don't think the tensor chip in this phone can handle switch emulation like my z fold 4 can. Also the design makes it so I can't use my backbone controller. I would have switched instantly if this weren't the case.

Just short of 1800 for a device with a Tensor 2 in it is insane, they should have waited for the 3. I struggle to justify the value of the 7 Pro with the Tensor 2 in it.

To help you out everything runs just as fast in the tensor chip vs snapdragon. The only noticable difference is if you are gaming and the tensor chip or phone being too thin makes the phone seem to be on the warm side. But not hot like on day 1 when you are transferring over your old phones storage and settings. All issues were fixed with a software update. The only flaw now is App Optimization which can be fixed with a software update in the future or by the app developers getting on board. Facebook and a few apps are full screen. So there really isn't much of a flaw with the Pixel Fold

I tried out the Pixel Fold and the outer display is nice. The form factor is basically a Surface Duo2 with an outer screen a and folding inner screen. I'm sure future generations will get better but for now, the Galaxy Fold is a better overall phone imo. I planned on selling my Fold 3 and getting the Pixel Fold but I'm upgrading my Fold 3 to the Fold 5 instead

The pixel fold is not better than than galaxy fold. I can use an s pen and use 3 apps at the same time. I can use dex. The pixel fold is $800 novelty phone. Pixel software is trash.

I went with the fold 5. Thr brightness on the both screens was bumped to 1750 Nits so it blows the pixel out of the water outdoors with visibility. I do like the pixel outerr screen but I also like the one handed grip of the galaxy outer screen. The pure android software experience of Google just means lack of features compared to one UI of Samsung, it's almost iOS like with how limited it is. But the Pixel fold is a great first attempt. Maybe next year for me.

Although, a lot of apps arent optimized, on the Pixel Fold, I love how you can turn your phone around & it allows you to adjust it to fit. Easy fix. I've enjoyed using the Google Pixel Fold. I'm absolutely impressed.

Great review ! Listen its all about what you want in a phone. I have a s23 untra,s24ultra, iphone ,fold3 and pixel fold. For business the pixel is my go to. Everytime I pick up the fold3 I open it up to view inside display because outside is just to small for me. The fold 3 was originally designed to be opened up for larger viewing. The pixel fold was designed for the front screen larger display first and then open for even larger. Apparenrly this is what most foldable people desire because the new fold 6 will have basically the same aspect ratio of pixel fold. So its what works for you! Just remember to get an extended warranty on foldables because repairs are very costly and plan on spending 2k every 2 to 2.5 years as they dont last 5 years.

Yes the ratio of the z fold is better. Only people with 2 or more phones like the wide outer screen of the pixel phone. I've switched to the pixel fold and had instant regret. Waiting for my fold 5 to come save me now.

Why can't both form factors exist?!?! I've used both, and honestly, the Pixel Fold front screen is so good that I rarely found myself using the inner screen.... so much that it just missed the S23 Ultra! I've got a zfold 5 on pre-order because I think that's a better immersive experience. Those that just want a front display that they can use 90% of the time should go Pixel Fold... but why hate on either experience... people are going to enjoy one or the other...

I've been an iPhone user for years now. I've been considering skipping the iPhone 15 upgrade, and getting a folding device instead. The Pixel is at the top of the list. But I love the s-pen.😍... But it doesn't get housed in the phone... 😡 - In the end the Pixel's better camera system will win out. I also really like that the outside display is more useable.

I owned the Z Fold 2, Z Fold 3, & Z Fold 4. Traded my Samsung Z Fold 4 in for a $900 credit to get the Google Pixel Food and hands down the Form Factor alone is a better Design. Plus.... The Cameras are By Far better. I take a lot of Videos and camera photos so I immediately see the difference. The Pixel Fold is already The King of Foldables. And I used to own all the Samsung Note phones. Then Was a Z Fold Lovers and now I'm sold on Google Pixel Fold. They need to fix a few small issues and put their Competition to bed with a Google Pixel Fold 2. Android is buttery smooth on Pixel. You tell the difference. The messages app is better. Talk to text and User software experience is great. Fix app Optimization and it's a wrap!

Pixel fold won't be better than the samsung fold until google improves their software. Hardware doesn't sell phones software does. Look at the iPhone. And let's be real this phone is too expensive to say "they will fix it eventually" especially with google. I think the pixel fold 3 will be amazing but rn I'm going galaxy

Stop it. I have both. The outer display size is definitely better. But it stops there. The basils are trash on the pixel. Fold the not opening completely flat is trash to Tencza. G2 is trash in the camera. Quality is muted at best. For a phone cost almost $2000 after taxes and gets warm or hot in your hand and for some folks just turns off and is unusable is trash, and you’re not telling me that the pixel has better display on the Internet than the Samsung Samsung shits all over that pixel. If we’re being honest, the pixel Ford is an inferior product compared to the Samsung outside of its outer display.

Samsung's focus groups say people like the narrower display which allows better app scaling and portability. What the Pixel Fold does to apps on the inner display is hideous, so it's compromised in its own way. Add to that its dim display, overheating issue, and mediocre battery life, and I don't think the outer screen is compelling enough.

You said something in your video that I disagree with. We are not forced to unfold our phones because of the outer screen on the Z Fold 4 or 5. We just prefer to because that's what it's for and also if the user has an S Pen, then the front display is not a problem. Unless you like being a one-handed user which to me as a user, I don't do. For me the outer display I just use it to check calls, notifications, quick pics not selfies,and answer the phone.As for the phone cameras, I'm not as big user as you or everyone else, I'm not a Tech head so to me the shit doesn't appeal to me and I'm proud to be a Samsung knight, LOL.

With all due respect. Absolutely not. Pros: - Runs stock Android - Cover screen has nice dimensions Cons: - It uses an old tensor 2 processor that was already the slowest in the market when it first launched. - it weighs a lot more than other folds - it overheats - Average brightness - Battery life is atrocious - Very thick bezels - cameras are not the same nor as good as the pixel 7 or 7pro - It cost the same as the fold 5 with average at best performance that can’t even stand toe-to-toe with the fold 4

I don't understand people's' complaints about typing on the outer screen of the fold. I am 5'11" have decently sized hands and can type on it just fine without issue. That seems to be the biggest complaint I see about the screen being too narrow. Then again, a lot of these kids these days didn't grow up with t9 typing and the really small screens we had on smartphones when they first came out in 2007. If they think it's tough to type on a narrow screen they should consider themselves lucky lol

No one should ever buy a tech product in hopes of features coming. Agreed but why wouldn’t apps develop for the Pixel Fold? Yet they developed for the Z Fold…also a lot of apps I used are already optimized or fit the screen just fine

But some of the things I'm looking forward to on the Fold 5 include the lighter weight, a more narrow space on the left side of the cover display, and better software optimization. What the pixel fold has going for it, is the cover display, a more clean android experience and the camera.

the truth is that you use the pixel fold when closed because when open it is not optimized and vice versa you use the fold when open because when closed the display does not have an excellent aspect ratio, simple.
