I was in the Ozarks two months ago. I was fishing the crappie pre spawn. I saw a bunch of deer in the small coves. I saw a woodchuck too. That is one of the things I love about that trip every year. I get to spend a week fishing buddies and get paid for it, but I get to do it on one of the most beautiful lakes I have been too. In early spring the trees are blooming, if it's quite, the animals are moving around, and there isn't tons people fishing everywhere. By me I can only fish during the week because everybody and their brother are out during the weekend. There is a specific ethnic group that fishes all the time and they leave bundles of line and trash on the shore. My friend and I go to the river every couple weeks and clean the trash out but go there two days layer and is dirty again. Beer cans, cans of corn, bait bags, food bags old line, worm bins, and brown minnow buckets. No respect for the river.

I have become addicted to your show and channel. I love the vast amounts of knowledge you provide in your videos and absolutely cherish the fact that you give all credit to God for his gifts and creations. I believe the knowledge I have gained from your videos has not only given me better insight into the science of agriculture but also to the behavior of the animals as well. I'm really looking forward to utilizing this information on my hunting grounds, roughly 100 acres, and hope for a successful harvest this year once Indiana's deer season begins. Thanks for the great tips. I've been watching your show along with a few other excellent shows on You Tube.I don't think I would attempt a plot on my own but with these weekly videos,they have given me the confidence to give it a try. I really like the the idea of the wheat and clover mix. I was disappointed to learn that the Eagle seed brand is not yet available in Canada due to our strict Canadian import regulations.Maybe some day ? Mark.
I've been adding field peas in with my soybeans to get the same runner effect you're talking about. The beans usually get nipped off while they're pretty young, while the peas seem to be more resilient & the deer eat the pea pods later in the season.
+GrowingDeer.tv Late in the video, you said that you will test the soil and add fertilizer if needed. How do you add the fertilizer if the ground isn't tilled, won't it wash off? Also I would like to plant without tilling but I don't have a no till drill, any thoughts.
I live in Massachusetts and the only place a food plot or close to a river and I would like to put soybeans in the food plot would the seeds drown because how much water is in the soil.
Can I broadcast forage beans prior to crimping my cover crop with success? I’d like to do beans for the fall and just not certain if I would be wasting my time/money by not drilling the bean.
Beans aren't the best for broadcasting. They are a large seed and it's tough for them to reach the soil when vegetation exists. You'd be better with a much smaller-sized seed for this technique.
What's your opinion on growing alfalfa as a food plot. . I've herd yes and no so far.. just wondering what you say about it. And again I like your style thanking the Creator .. You sir have my respect. . best hopes to you and your family / friends. .
I have seen on camera my deer are covered in ticks. I remember a episode where you used a granulated product to help keep deer healthy if possible please tell me what the product for ticks was that you used. Happy hunting

I just bought a place in East Texas and will be hunting an old Bahia hay field. I shredded the field about a month ago and it help kill a lot of weeds and came back really thick. I'm looking for options this fall but not necessarily wanting to plow it due to erosion concerns. Also for this first year not sure I want to spend the money on a no till drill. Without herbicide, do you think I could broadcast a seed and it come up? I hear ppl use winter wheat, clover, and oats a lot. What are your thoughts?
Don't plow, that will not only cause erosion but will also disrupt the seed bed and create more weeds! For the first year you will need to use herbicide. Depending on the weeds you have, Gylpohosate will probably be best. After you spray, get your crop in the ground asap before new weeds sprout. We like planting winter wheat or cereal rye as a cover crop in the off season. Ideally, you want something growing year round to help build and protect the soil. You may look into renting a no-till drill from the local NRCS office. They are usually very cheap to rent. +Avery Johnson It can depend on your deer herds size. expected browse pressure, and food plot size. Eagle seeds beans have the varitety and genetics in their products to tackle any food plot. We use whitetail thicket in our smaller plots, and use Large Lad or Big Fellow in out larger plots. -Matt

I have planted and researched chicory! It's a neat plant that does a good job of transferring minerals from the soil to deer. However, it's usually blended with clover and I'm not aware of a herbicide that both chicory and clover tolerate that's effective at controlling broad-leafed weeds. I planted a different brand of soybeans. I broadcasted and drag them. Not all seed gets covered. When beans 6 inch tall deer ate all. Half acre plot. This yr planted a forage soybean was given. This time I broadcast and rolled in with cultimulcher. Much better. They are growing but seed rate seems too low and sure deer will wipe out again. Success depends on a lot of factors. Seed, soil, plot size, deer density, weather.
