Walking!!! You can listen to a podcast or audiobook while walking. It’s minimal impact and doesn’t interfere with recovery of strength training. More importantly it’s good for heart health. I walk at least one hour a day
I wish somebody would have given me this advice early on in my fitness journey. I've been consistently doing resistance training for 10 months and I've lost a substantial amount of body fat doing so. Thank you and keep up the great work Mind Pump team!
Honestly I see most people using cardio as a way to combat a sedentary lifestyle. People that have an office job, are in school, work from home, ect. I work construction and every weekend I run a few miles with my friends for fun and they seem shovked and appalled that I don't program cardio into my workouts when the truth is I don't "need" it for my goals at all
A lot of people would benefit from some additional cardiovascular activity in addition to resistance training. The issue is that most people aren't going to do that cardio work in addition to resistance training. They are going to do it instead of resistance training.
Cardiorespiratory training not cardiovascular. “Cardio” gives a person cardiovascular benefits but that cardio is cardiorespiratory training not cardiovascular training. And simply alternate strength n cardio days to have more people complete at least two days, hopefully three, days of each. Good luck
6 to 10 minutes of jogging before every workout works for me, it actually helps my squats, considering that is a full body, and CORE workout, I only jog for about 6 or 8 minutes out of that anyway, so there's no way i won't be able to build muscle
There's a mental thing about forcing myself through 30 minutes of a high heart rate that I can't get enough of. The extra calories burned are just a plus.
@@limitisillusion7 walking with a good diet 30 min of walking is enogh for losing fat in the long term i lost over 10 kg in 45 days and my goal is to dress well you can set every thing depends on your goal walkng for me is stress releave and losing fat at the same time and i am a lazy person i do not like moving a lot for me 30 min of walking i will see it it is cardio
@TheEvilStickman I'll tell them that money and countries ought not to exist from a rational scientific sensible point of view and that "creating jobs" is insane and the opposite of what the human species should be doing.
It all depends on the quality of workout. If you’re in the gym more days a week, then yes your workouts should be shorter. But those shorter session need to be just as focused and intense as a longer session would be. Keep in mind fatigue and giving yourself rest periods. 40-45 mins would probably be more realistic
i still just cannot see a reason for anyone, in particular any athlete with some rare exceptions (Sumo fighters should probably find another type of cardio due to their joints etc) to not be able to run a few miles; not fast, not competetively, but just for the recovery, health, and heart benefits. At least on your off season.
I train muay thai, got shin splints ehicih means i cant jump rope and cannot run/jog until it gets better. Spin cycle bodyweight hiit/ bag is my cardio rn
@@faultyclone0013 when I started boxing I had shin splints doing my morning runs, but in the end my body just overcame it, I ran through the pain and it went away. Might not be the same for everyone but worked for me
I am a certified personal trainer and I have been into and competed in bodybuilding all the way back to the 90s. So I absolutely love weight training and personally would love to just weight train with no cardio. But the problem I have with this anecdotally, is that I see so many people in my more than 30 years of gym experience, guys especially, that all they do is weight training and no cardio. Oh, some of them have nice big muscles. But covered in layers and layers of body fat. Don't even get me started on their guts, which can be potentially prematurely fatal, and totally defeats the ultimate purpose of weight training, which should be longetivity. I understand that nutrition is the key here. And the point is, what doesn't seem to be discussed is the often overwhelming hunger that comes with a lot of weight training. Especially if it is super intense, which we driven people tend to engage in. So there goes all of the fat burning benefits of your muscle because you're always overeating and in too much of a calorie surplus! Whereas cardio can often times act as an appetite suppressant. So don't get me wrong, I, too am a believer in weight training for fat loss. But I always remind people that this (the benefits of weight training) is a relatively long game (potentially longer, varying from person to person.) And incorporating cardio in a well-targeted and sensible manner can help accelerate one's fat loss goals. (Sometimes greatly!) In addition to being great for the heart!
I'm curious how you give diet advice to the general person? I feel like tracking calories is a bit much for most so how do you know what level of diet intervention with a person?
I tried to look but have the guys ever discussed the cardio acceleration idea? I’ve been doing a murph style approach but instead of running before and after, I do 45 seconds of running pretty hard in place after each tri set.
Actually they already did two meta analyses on the weight training increase testosterone, and they found that it actually didn't. Now it's absolutely healthy to do it, but according to that it doesn't raise testosterone.
Can you guys discuss what steroids are you guys taking? It would be nice if your audience knows if you guys are on trt, hrt etc so that you guys can maintain and gain muscle mass after 40s but also helps with recovery so you can train again.
Adam talked openly on the podcast that he was on anabolics (can't rmbr what episode it was) Sal I think isn't on anything but he said he's considering taking HRT, and well Justin looks normal for his age imo
His physique was not unnatural in that video. If he is on steroids then he isn't working very hard, especially given his experience. Do you guys just see muscle and think steroids are the only way to get there?
@@limitisillusion7 my man, he has grey hair and is fucking jacked AND lean...if you dont think hes using gear you have been brainwashed by youtube and social media as to what a natural physique looks like. You cant be big AND lean naturally for a sustainable amount of time. you can do it for a show or competition but not year round unless you're taking some shit
@@stdavis22 or maybe he has just spent the majority of his life trialing and tweaking his training and has found a very efficient way to build and maintain muscle mass
yeah I mainly use 10-12k steps daily ontop of my weight training as my cardio and lately I've been doing 10 minute hiit cardio videos from youtube a few times a week after lifting. I wont go over 10 minutes hiit never was interested in anything longer.
15 mins HIIT Assault Bike. Try to get about 100 kcal burned. Weights 4 times a week with the airdyne bike after. 20 sets per workout and the 15 minutes of cardio. Good to go. Torches fat as long as you're in a moderate deficit.
Should i do cardio at all i average 12 to 17k steps aday due to my job plus i lift 6 days aweek push pulll routine..my goal is just put on muscle but i wanna get my body fat down right now im 9 days into carnivore diet… i
I’m a cardio hater 😂 then I joined Orangetheory and I hate it even more but I love that I dont have to think about what to do. The goal is to do OT for 6 months then to switch to majority of strength training
walking at a rapid pace outside 10k- 15k steps a day and lifting weights preferably 3-4 days a week and a caloric surplus or deficit depending on your goals and your all set.
Bro science don’t listen to these 30% bf “trainers” wow! You guys are clowns ! WALKING is the best???! Huh? You know sprints lower your Hcl raise lcl ? You guys have nothing but bro science
