I have found that my hot hemmer makes the perfect foldover aid. Great demo. Genius tip on the hinge. I've managed to misplace my small AAQ ruler. I'm putting its picture on a milk carton. Maybe someone will call!

Thank you for this tutorial. It really helped me understand the process. However, I am always searching for recommendations on what size needles and thread to use for FPP. Can you specify what I should use? Thanks again
@quiltedfromtheroots
@quiltedfromtheroots Месяц назад
So glad it was helpful! Needles and thread…this varies depending on who you ask. I like to use a 50 wt thread or 60 wt if I am working with really small pieces. I like to use a size 70 needle but sometimes I forget and use an 80. I think it is more important to use appropriate needle size to match your thread weight. Aka Smaller pieces, thinner thread, smaller needle. Hope this helps!!

Really enjoy your video. I’ve been really thinking about giving this a try and just might since I’ve watched this. One question tho….when finishing piece 5, it really sounds like you used steam while pressing it. Is that what I like to call, an OOOPS!, or just a touch of background noise?
@quiltedfromtheroots
@quiltedfromtheroots 2 дня назад
So glad you found it helpful! I went back to watch, the iron I am using isn’t a steam iron, so it must have been some background noise. Sorry for the confusion! Steam will shrink the paper so you definitely don’t want to use any steam!

I was hoping to see the piecing of the strip in the main picture. I don't know the term they use.... the picture that I clicked on to see this video. It has a strip pieced with skinny points. Where would I find that video?
@quiltedfromtheroots
@quiltedfromtheroots 3 месяца назад
I don’t currently have a video for that one. It is part of a Jacqueline de Jonge pattern. I have had a lot going on personally and kind of put RU-vid on hold, but I just reached 800 subscribers and I promised I would make a video if I reached 800. I have another row to do like the one in the photo and I can include it in the video, but I won’t be able to give the pattern away. I had a few other comments/questions, so I was thinking about making a part 2 to this video. Would it be helpful for you to watch this being made??
@annpersonal1097
@annpersonal1097 3 месяца назад
@@quiltedfromtheroots Yes! I would love to see you piece that. I have more trouble with very pointed triangles when paper piecing than anything else.
@quiltedfromtheroots
@quiltedfromtheroots 3 месяца назад
Okay! I will add that into the part 2 of the video!! I also had a request for how to know how big to cut your fabric if the pattern doesn’t tell you what size to cut the fabric, so that will also be in the video!

do you still make the material larger or go by your measurements. This is my first time learning paper piecing. Sometimes I feel you go a little to fast I try as best as I can and I keep playing it over numerous time and I just have to keep playing until get it right I hope you do more tutorials and hope to be able to follow better. I am a quilter and this is so different. Thank you
@quiltedfromtheroots
@quiltedfromtheroots 6 месяцев назад
Hi Linda! Yes, you want to make your fabric quite a bit larger than the “shape” you need to cover, because it needs to extend at least 1/4” beyond all the edges of your shape and you want to have wiggle room so you don’t have to worry about being so precise. Most patterns will tell you what size to precut your pieces of fabric. Maybe I could try to make a video about how to know what size to cut your fabric if the pattern doesn’t tell you. Would that be helpful to you? Hopefully that answers your question! If not, feel free to reach back out! Another quick tip, in the settings on RU-vid, you can actually slow the speed down so that the video is slower. Maybe this could help in the parts that are too quick. And don’t forget about pausing! Just don’t give up! Paper piecing is one of those things that always confused me, but once it finally clicked, it actually became my go to for when I don’t want to have to think a lot about what I’m sewing!

What is the name of your rotary cutter? Thank you.
@quiltedfromtheroots
@quiltedfromtheroots 4 месяца назад
Martelli rotary cutter. Comes in a left and right handed version. I prefer their 45 mm. It still cuts through a TON of layers easily and I feel like I get a straighter cut with it vs the 60 mm.
