You talked about the advantages of FPP but you missed the biggest for me. I'm older than dirt, ditto for my vision, & waiting for my cataracts to become bad enough for surgery. FPP has allowed me to continue to piece. I can manage, easily, to stitch on the line & no worry about starting & stopping. Started by drafting Dear Jane for FPP. Every block is different so a bit tedious. Wanted something faster to work on when I start to hate Dear Jane. Pulled out a sample block that I hand pieced a number of years ago. It's a kimono block I found in a Japanese quilt book. Converted the pattern to FPP & I'm here, again. to learn how to do these blocks at speed. Thank you so much for your videos & books! You're the OG of FPP.

I’m so grateful to have found this video. I’ve watched several on other channels and am amazed at how COMPLICATED some instructions are. I had almost given up when I ran across Carol’s version. Now I’m excited about paper piecing again!!!

Thank you Carol. Your book and this heart wall hanging was my very first adventure into paper piecing 20 years ago. The wall hanging goes up every Valentine's Day. I mainly use tracing paper.

Thank you, Carol, for this tutorial on paper piecing, which I TRIED to learn MANY years ago without much luck. I'm going to give it another go after watching this! BTW, I still own my Bernina 1530 (which I used for 27 years), even though I replaced it last year with the B535. The dealer told me not to sell my 1530, so I have taken his advice.

Hi Carol, I watched your video, then bought your book, then watched video again, not just to see technique but to observe how the darker colors around the edge make the heart pop. BTW, it is a lovely book with 4 printed pages of your (4 hearts on each page) heart pattern. I bet a black background fabric with bright colors or Batiks would be beautiful. Thanks for the clear tutorial..Foundation Paper Piecing is so much better than the hand stitching version of paper piecing-no hand sewing or glue needed. 😀

What a great teacher! Your gentle nature and organized manner make this so easy to watch. I do have a question though: What are you using to cut your threads so quickly to the left of your machine?
@CandTPublishing
@CandTPublishing Год назад
Hi Wendy, that's the built-in thread cutter that came with her machine. If your machine doesn't have one, there are several magnetic and stick- on options for thread cutters out there these days. Check your local quilt shop or big box craft store. - Betsy F. , customer service at C&T Publishing

Hi Carol. I have your book on paper piecing from 1994. I did the quilt on page 86, the Tulips. I display it every spring. Do you still recommend a 90/14 needle & a stitch length of 18 to 20" as mentioned in that book?

Very enjoyable video series! Ty 💖🙏 I was interested to know about the precut sizes. Maybe it seems obvious but when I learned years ago the scraps I was cutting never seemed big enough in trying to not waste the fabric. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.
@CandTPublishing
@CandTPublishing Год назад
Hi Jayne - you're not alone - it's NOT easy or obvious to figure out how much fabric you need. For me - there's something about sewing down to a mirrored image that makes my mind go into a tizzy. I'm a SUPER scrappy quilter, so making the most of my scraps is super important to me. However, I've learned that anytime I try to be conservative with the fabric I'm using on a paper-pieced project, I almost never give myself enough! I've decided it's worth the "scrap tax" of an ill-fitting piece. So I now cut an obnoxiously big piece for what I need. It's not the best answer for avoiding fabric waste - but it's the best answer for my own sanity! ;-) - Betsy F

Do you have your sizeable patterns that were on cds available for download into EQ8 or something like that? I really miss not having the fabulous QuiltPro on my new computer.

Hi there - unfortunately, that was a collaboration with Quilt Pro that we no longer support. At this time we do not have a partnership like this with EQ, but I'll mention it to the production team.

How are the numbers or sequence decided please ?
@Caroldoak
@Caroldoak Год назад
When I design the blocks, I design them so they can be sewn in a sequence. Then it is simply a matter of putting in the numbers for the best way to sew the block. Not all blocks can be sewn in a sequence.

What are dotted lines and a,b,cfor on pattern?
@CandTPublishing
@CandTPublishing 2 года назад
Hi Susan! See minute marker 15:37. For these hearts, the dotted lines indicate the outside of your quarter-inch seam allowance. It's marking the trim-line so you leave that seam allowance there for when you sew the finished paper-pieced blocks together. For other patterns, that might be indicating your sew line. The numbers are used to tell you the order to sew your pieces down. For more complicated patterns, there are often several sections of paper-pieces that are sewn together to make one block. The various sections are often marked with letters.
