I have this optoma projector absolutely love it, ive had so many 1080p tvs, 4k LEDs and I wouldn't trade it for any of them. Also tried so many differnt screens hated pretty much all of them. Bought some screen paint I paid 200$ a gallon for and that sucked had to drywall mud over it and smoothed out the orange peel texture sanded it smooth turned on the projector and voila I got this amazing picture that I couldn't get with all the screens and paints I bought. iCouldn't believe that simple drywall mud gave me the perfect picture i ended up casing it in with baseboard and that was it.

I've had my setup for just over 2 years now and absolutely love it. I do have the older model (hd141x) and I've got a manual pull down screen (it's an optoma brand and around 92 inch) again it's been fantastic. Unfortunately the built in speakers on the projector aren't great. That was easily remedied with a mini amp from Amazon along with some wharfedale speakers. Overall cost of my setup come in at £600. Absolute no brainer if anyone's thinking of getting one. Movies, Gaming and sports look fantastic on it. I'll be upgrading to an electronic screen next yr 😁.

Hi Kenneth, fellow Projectionist. Optoma has risen there game in the PJ market. This video is great. I myself have the HD230x model, on 120” Screen. I was lucky to get it through a friend was upgrading and I got the PJ for £300. All I did was put a new bulb in it and give it a dust down inside. My PJ is perfect, still going strong for a nearly 6yr old unit. BluRay movies give it the Boom factor and friends and family still say wow. Was going to buy a larger Tv but this came along. Very impressed and very happy. Goodluck, Happy movie watching👍

Got the Optoma HD29DARBEE on sale before Christmas for $400, down from $649 and with a fixed 120" deluxe screen for $209 I got a better projector and screen for less. The Darbee image processor makes a massive difference. And it's an extra 200 lumens at 3200.

Ok odd question for you, I do video projection shows on my house during the holidays, would this project work outside on my house screen? (Screen is white and viewing area is 39ft x 8ft) My exisitng projector is a short throw. Thanks for any advice you can give.

I have the Optoma HD141 which is also 1080. I could believe the quality from the projector. Good sound from the headphone socket but for best results get an amp. If you're running the video or audio from one side of the room to the other you need a cable with an AVG rating. Not sure what that means but before when I used a cheaper 10mm cable I was only getting 720p. The quality of videos on You tube has improved over the years and the HD content is stunning on the 100 inch screen

I had the same projector, but had to return it the next day as I couldn't live with the awful rainbow effect. The image quality was great, but sadly for me it was ruined by the slow colour wheel.

I love the all the window set you have you have a beautiful living room set up and it's a great projector I think you would even have a better picture if you went with a darker screen it would look beautiful

There is so much 4k content now. It is a good time that you change that projector for a 4k projector. Every movie is now in 4k and every game too. You should also change the projector screen to some gray screen. You will then get better black colors in ambient light.

I have HD151x is 2800 lumen but higher contrast. I use a 12 foot diagonal beaded screen, which never seems to get much mention when choosing a screen. 4K into these projectors is superb. Only downside my pj is only 1 hdmi input, but computer using the dvi.

Key thing with projectors is the brightness or lumens count, no less than 2500 better still 3000 lumens. I have an optomax projector and it's screen is good in daylight. The bulb gets really hot so make sure you don't block ventilation holes, but it's bright even in a room with loads of windows.

Only need a light canon if you have a low end screen. High end screen you can get away with 1200-1500 lumens and still have it look great without washed out colors.

I had the 142x and i see the same problem here. I was NEVER able to line up the edges of the picture to my screen and i returned it for a refund. Mine also had a glare white spot on the center of the screen. I never had these problems with my Epson projector. This new version 143x had a image overshoot problem that created a light around the edge of the screen. They do however have a nice picture. If only Optoma could work out those negatives they would have a great product. Read reviews before you buy people!

The white spot in the center of the screen is called "Hot Spotting". Its when your screen is too reflective for your projector. Most likely the 142x was significantly brighter than your old projector, which means you need a new screen with less gain. At least thats what it sounds like from your description.

Cake Batter - No it was not a hotspot. Im familiar with what hot spot is and the glare was not coming from the screen it was coming from the projector. I tried a cloth on the spot and even my hand where the spot appeared and the spot glare was there coming from the projector.

The secret to bright screen is distance form the wall. a 200 limen Brookstone near wall projector is just as bright as a 1000 lumen projector set up ten feet away. For your next set up I recommend a 4k near wall laser projector, in another year they will be more affordable.

I've heard that the black projector screens are a lot better during any time of the day, but not tested it myself yet... Apparently supposed to bring out the contrast and make the darker colours even clearer as projectors have a hard time showing true black and dark colours with higher lumens.

THIS IS EXACTLY HOW NOT TO SET UP ONE'S AUDIO Nevermind there's no centre channel (centre speaker 4 dialogue) you're using your height speakers (elevated channels usual 4 atmos) as stereo speakers! I suspect you've got a least a 5.1 amp, you need to utilise it properly otherwise the dialogue, the sound effects and the music actually come to think of it, the hole bloody soundstage is coming from above! 😱 You really need to sort your speaker placement out because you've given many people the wrong impression! Other than that you've done a good job in demonstrating the visuals so thanks for posting!

hi all things tech , the picture quality is outstanding , but for anything else its not , it wont show blurays and also blurays in 3d wont show either , i bought this more for the 3d part of it , first thing that started , it said that that the dust filter needed , i looked in side and coudn't see a dust filter , i then went to goggle and found out there was on filter on in this model so every time this error message came up i just hit the return button and that let me use it for my gaming pc and my free sat then a nother error message came up but that was a fair while ago and i cant remember what it said , so it had been sitting in the spare room , so tonight i decided to fire it up and straight away the red came on and then it turned blue as it does , then the lamp came on and i had the menu screen show up , i says to myself happy days and thought it needed a rest but it was short lived as then the blue light went to red plus the lamp warning light came on which was red also , i the turned it off and rebooted it and both lights came on again , so just switched it off , i looked at the bulb and it seemes ok , i checked it with a microscope and didnt see any cracks on the outer part of the bulb so maybe the inner part has gone , where can i get a new bulb from ?

You are correct. I have a 1080p projector with 9 ft screen in an average-size room giving a sharper, better contrast image than I see at my local large cinema complex. 4K definitely not warranted for several reasons.

Just received this optoma hd143x projector today set it up and after it working for about 1hr the fan failed and the power light and the temp light stayed on and message appeared on screen to say contact optoma to send back for repair

The image quality as U sed it, is absolutely marvellous.., but I'd rather the projection rectangle aspect comes in at least a native 16 by 9 or alternatively better still, the 21 by 9 aspect ratio factor, albeit uf corz, 1 that was accorded some pre-calibrated, brilliantly tweaked software works by their respective OEMs to "Not let Upright-Standing-Human-Subjects" become short, stout or stubby looking, what's notoriously synonymous with the 16:9 aspect ratio. I'm also of the opinion the "Classical Long-Throw OHMPs (overhead mounted projectors) tho will very slowly, but still look to be headed in the direction of eventually falling out of favor with many a 'Home Theatre' patron. Projectors that are now more "In" the running are the likes of "Short & Ultra-Short Throw" varieties.

14 ft, image is about 118" diagonally. There's a stupid ceiling fan in the way otherwise it could be bigger if I put the projector on a different wall. unfortunately, my bulb just popped a few minutes ago. Now to wait for a replacement lamp.

I have coveted that for a while. I settled with the xiaomi laser projector and it's 95% as amazing when paired with a light rejecting screen. Even with just a plain cinema white screen this thing is unreal, like better than your local cinema.

These projectors are LOUD! That's the elephant in the room. The fan noise is unnerving. Had a (otherwise really good) Epson Beamer for years. Especially watching concert videos was no fun, and I was always relieved when I turned it off and had the silence. Since 2015 I have a LG Largo LED Beamer. It isn't bright enough for daylight viewing (but hey, why is this a thing at all? At daylight there are better and more important things to do than watching TV!), but it is VERY, VERY quiet, and additionally (because of the LED lighting) you can turn it on and off as you want without fearing damage, and the brightness is at 100% immediately. Start watching 5 seconds after you turn it on! That's a REAL television replacement!

I have a BUT question, if you do the math's on the viewsonic x10-4k for £1300 with LED lasts for 7 years and you have to get a new Optoma £500 after 2 years or change the bulb, your still spending a little bit more after 6 years buying 3 optomas and you get an extra year out of the LED viewsonic. Just saying some are worth the extra £1000 would be great to know what you think and my girlfriend said the same thing, sort that TV out man XD

i had the same issue my tv was on a stand then mounted it on the wall with the screen coming in front of the tv but i had the reverse problem, my tv was too high and the projector cover was in the way of the tv .. lol so i had to re mount the tv lower ... i also have a 1080p Epson 2150 projector because all my content is 1080p not 4k

The best thing would be to google the screen and see if there is anything on RU-vid, you could find out what material is best and try making your own screen. Well done for using a screen, nothing anoys me more then to see images projected onto plaster thats useless at reflecting light..

I actually came up with a wavy rough application of semi gloss super white that was very satisfactory. The brightness reflecting off an uneven surface reduced the screen door effect dramatically and the reflected image really popped off the screen.

Hi there. Great review. Wondered if you could say something about the units fan noise. Often with lower cost projectors it gets quite intrusive after a while? I know there are decibel apps out there that are quite accurate as a measurement tool. Thanks
