The BEST GH4 Color Profile For Filmmakers! 

Ironic that we are getting advice on color settings on a video with color that looks like a 1980s handycam shot of the Incredible Hulk,

I don't know if you yourself, recorded yourself with those settings but the first thing I was thinking as you started to talk was there was too much green in your skin tone. That may be from youTube compression or something. The shadow highlight setting will not improve DR - And unless you are going straight to television 16-235 is not required. Not sure how that improves DR to me that is actually limiting it.

Interesting video. The shots of you speaking were so green hued I had flashbacks of The Matrix. Was this your intended look with these settings?

"Much more dynamic range". Mehhhh, not. There is no magic to getting more DR out of cine-D. Using 16-235 rather than 0-255 is just setting that tells the computer how to read the luminance levels. It doesn't change anything about what's actually recorded. 0-255 just displays all the way to the clipping point, whereas 16-235 just displays the image differently. v-log is the only way to ACTUALLY increase the DR of the camera. Every other setting is just eliminating available DR because of heightened contrast settings.

Hope your advices won't ruin someones shoot.

If you've ever actually written a script, cast actors and shot a film then you know that you end up with hundreds and hundreds if not a thousand or more shots. YOU'RE GOING TO GRADE ALL OF THAT? ONE AT A TIME? REALLY? Yeah in Hollywood...but why shoot so that every single shot has to have correction just to have proper blacks and whites? It's ludicrous. For decades in Hollywood professional DPs shot things as close to the way they wanted it to look on screen as they possibly could. Today everyone is using 8bit cameras like the GH4 (unless you use an external drive) and that stuff doesn't grade well on a good day...My advice: shoot it like you want it to look! It's called lighting and production design. Don't put all your eggs in the "grading" basket.

While I appreciate the effort and don't doubt that these settings mimic a Red Dragon, I feel that there is a section of videography today that champions footage that is off colour and has reduced sharpness. This may have to do with a lot of people just implementing the camera settings to produce the flat colour as a final output ... rather than using the output from these settings to correctly grade colour (and maybe sharpen) using an appropriate grading software. Hunt carefully and you will probably find the LUTs and settings that can re-grade the colour of such output to produce colour that is closer to what we see in motion picture and TV productions. I have yet to see a single production that is devoid of colour and sharpness in the final output as the settings here would produce. This is not intended to deflate your confidence or your curiosity... rather to put the spotlight on the incomplete workflow often represented which creates the false standards. In this video - the colour is just plain wrong (unless you intended to recreate an 80s film based video camera look like someone mentioned).
