Thanks for the honest review Josh. Photography is such a specialized and expensive hobby. It’s nice when we can make something work multipurpose like that but it’s not always the case. I’m currently getting by with a Wimberley Sidekick on a RRS BH55 which allows me to do my landscape work on just the ballhead and add the Sidekick for wildlife with my lighter 500PF lens. It’s working but if I was to ever go to a bigger lens or start to do video it would upset the applecart.

Thanks so much Mark! I also had the Wimberley + BH55! Its a great combo! And you are totally right, there usually isnt a "perfect" solution, and there is always going to be compromise somewhere!

It is, and it’s rock solid! Thanks for the support!

Looks like a great head and tripod. I love to work off a rock solid setup like this. If it came with someone to carry it into the field for me, I would be all in.

Thanks so much! Its honestly not as bad as it seems. Its only about 3 pounds heavier than my last set up, but significantly better. I was carrying around a 70-200 that I NEVER! used, so I just took that out of the bag to offset the weight.

Flex shooter pro is a huge step up over a traditional gimbal. I no longer use my high-end carbon fiber gimbal head since getting this. I quickly got used to the slight change in pivot point location.

I’ve never even heard of that, thanks for sharing!

I've used them all. The Gitzo Fluid Gimbal Head is the best.

I politely disagree. The Gitzo wasnt great as a gimbal, or a fluid head.. As a gimbal, you can never take off all the "drag" resulting in restricted movement, especially in cold tempertures when the "fluid" would get thicker and cause it to "stick" when panning. As a fluid head, it never had ultra smooth movements that a fluid would normally have. I found the gitzo to be "ok" while this is a huge improvement in the gimbal aspect for wildlife photography. This has a much lower operating temperture than the gitzo, its built better, it has better movement, and overall is a much better head.

Bro I don’t wanna call you out here but I gotta say your gimbal is only 1/2 set up. It appears you have found the front to back balance point but not vertical balance point. Take a moment watch Steve Perry gimbal set up video. I believe you will be that much more impressed by your equipment.

Oh no, I’m aware. I know that I don’t balance it correctly, but that’s because I don’t need it to be balanced for my work. 99% of what I do is video, and no amount of balancing is going to give me smooth drag during panning or tilting. Generally, my hands are always on the camera, and I need to lock it down because of wind conditions. Thanks so much for the comment though!

If you haven’t tired one before it’s worth a look. The Manfrotto 502 video fluid head. Out of the box it’s not super hybrid friendly shooting due to the Manfrotto Cine style QR plate. However if you mod it with a Kirk Arca Bridge for the 502 and in my opinion remove the pan handle it becomes one of the best hybrid shooters tripod heads available.
