Bought a set of the previous Cleveland Launcher HB - new but leftover stock. I've always played bladed cavity backs, but I fell in love with these from the first time I hit them.
I purchased a set of Cleveland Launcher HBs a few months ago, largely on Mark's recommendations. I'm a 63-year old, 12-handicap with limited flexibility from back issues. I really thought the day I'd have to give up the game might be near. The Launchers have literally been life-changing for me. Just put the club face squarely on the ball and it will fly long, high, and straight. They make golf fun again. I shot a 79 last week, and an 81 today. Just what the doctor ordered.
Just re watching this and the reason you discounted the Cleveland is the reason i, being a higher handycap, would actually choose it - confidence inspiring. And this whole traditional loft thing is irrelevant to higher handycapers or new golfers cause we dont look at the 7 iron and think it's a 5 we just accept it's a 7 iron. Thoughts, ideas and preconceptions are so interesting
Been on the launchers for 3 months and knocked off 6 shots off my handicap. Fast forwarded to lockeys shot with launcher... couldn't wait, actually couldn't be bothered with the rest of the irons.
Mark, I love that you're not afraid to give your opinion. I definitely dont always agree with you, but I appreciate that you dont shy away from saying what you actually think. I also 100% agree with you that Ping and Titleist are regularly the companies to beat in terms of performance. Marketing... we all know which companies are "winning" that game...
Ping for me, I actually play the G700's after i went for a fitting 2 years ago, had my heart set on AP 1's but after hitting 7 or 8 different 7 irons fell in love with the pings and gave me most consistent results
I tested 4 iron sets in my fitting. Ping, Taylormade, Titleist and Callaway. Varying prices but the Callaway Rogue iron just felt right for me. Well worth having a fitting as i could have just gone on looks and name, but having hit balls for an hour or so i found the right club for me.
Well done for persuading coach to take his Callaway hat off at least temporarily 👍 For me it’s a toss up between the ping & Titleist but the Titleist gets it. I think the finish on the ping would scratch too easily and it annoys me that the arccos sensor is only a 90 day trial which requires an annual subscription.
I wouldn't pick the Ping, after 4 or 5 rounds they would be very scruffy with that finish, tests elsewhere shows that. I'd pick the Titleist, classic design easy to hit
I game the cobras when I went for my fitting I tried them against the t300 and sims and even though the cobras had the lowest lofts still found them the easiest to get in the air. Another plus for the cobras is they have arccos as standard which at £599 for 6 clubs has to go down as a bargain 👍
I play the Cleveland Turbo Launcher and find them very easy to hit. Never really think about loft. I have come to realize how far I hit each iron and adjust accordingly. Recently purchased the Turbo driver and love it. To a high handicapper adjustability is not as important. Variance in swing patterns makes it unimportant. Getting fit with regards to loft on the driver was more critical.
Been using the Cleveland's for years. If you haven't you should try them. Get over they look to big; so does every driver now, & no one complains. Easier 'IS' better.
Mark, I’m using the Cleveland HB turbo 5 and 6 as my hybrids and I kept my irons 7-PW. So I guess am the second person in the world using HB turbo as a combo set
Mark I just had a fitting yesterday and I’m going with the Cleveland UHX launcher irons. Numbers seemed to come up great for me and they were about £300 than most of the others! Now I’m on the Cleveland/Srixon train! Keep up the great videos I love them.
Here I go again. I played my set of 120 dollar Cleveland HBores for about 6 years. I loved them. Then I got my Taylormade Speeeeeeeeeed Blades. Im in ancient mode, YES!!! I guess I liked my chunkies. I still switch them out and in as need would have it. One thing I did to the old HBores.... I sandblasted all of the paint off of them because they chipped the paint off each other while in the bag. I ended up clear coating them.
Would’ve liked to see the p790Ti in this group. I know they are tough to get, but even last year it’s no question. Ping dominates this market. I’ve sold many g410s and g700s and will definitely be selling more g710s again this year
I don't like the strong lofts, in fact my last two sets of irons have all been tweaked to be 2 degrees weak, 55 degree wedge bent to 57 degrees, 50 degree wedge bent to 52 degrees and so on down to my 6 iron at 28 degrees, then two hybrids at 24 and 19.5 and fairway wood at 15.5 then driver. I know my lofts and distance and have everything I need for 200 yards on in, don't need and don't want anything else. PS I do like the more bounce it give me. Everything 4.5 to 5 degrees apart. Just what I want and what I like, just my opinion. Good video guys, thanks.
Because of your review...I did purchase a full set of the Cleveland HB turbo irons. I am trying hybrids now to add to the bag (3/4 hybrid) to replace 4/5 irons. As you have stated, you must bring a certain level of skills to hit any club but HB Turbo clubs have greatly improved my game. I dont care much about looks provided I get the result I want (the result is more important than looks). I have finally broken 80- shot a 77. I tried several improvement clubs and had to choose between Ping and Cleveland HB. I chose the HB strictly because of performance eventhough the looks are not ideal. My swing is more of a sweeping motion vs a descending angle. Thanks for the review.
Bought Cleveland HB Turbo Launcher 4 and 5 iron to replace hybrids. After 5 rounds I will be buying the rest of the set 6-DW. Easy to hit with max forgiveness.
Dale D. Cool. Good luck with that. I’ve got a 6i on order. Original idea is that I may replace 6i and 5h and maybe even 7i. However, I may fall in love and do what you’ve done!
With regard to the modern game improvement irons, before deciding at what point you will transition to a hybrid I suggest the golfer try the longer irons. I game a semi-aggressive iron set and found that I can hit the 3 iron lofted at 18 degrees very well. It is essentially an utility iron. Very forgiving. Prior to this set, I would not have even considered a iron lofted below 24 degrees. My only hybrid now is a 2 hybrid.
As a high handicapper I recently got a new game improvement set, Benross Delta Irons 5-SW with KBS Max Stiff steel shafts for £230. I did look at different sets but based on a combination of cost, performance and quality the other set that really stood out to me were the Wilson D7 irons £389 5-PW . However the money I saved vs sets like in this video, I'm going to spend on a few lessons.
I think out of those i would prefer t300 for lofts and im not keen on really hot faces. My new set of irons is 31 degree 7 iron which is probably my limit
G'Day Mark & Coach, I still played Ping ISI-S... 2i to LW ( weaker lofts compared to today's irons )....I'm after the most forgiving iron,... if I want more distance, I just play an extra club....The ball doesn't know what club I'm hitting ...All Good Bruhs.....!
Matt’s dispersion with these irons are amazing!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I’m interested to know the distance between his most left shot and his most right shot. I’m guessing it’s almost 100 yards
The PING. They have the most bounce variety, the friendliest bounce angles, the most thoughtful design for weather, the best looking, and equal with the most technology. And too, it's free to have them lofted down.
I love how much these more forgiving, game improvement irons tightened up his dispersion. LOL I guess face to path isn't one of the things these irons are good at improving.
I would have to go Ping or Cleveland. Really based on I own Ping G700 irons and Cleveland wedges and their chipper currently and I just love them. Cleveland just makes good clubs for the average golfer who just likes to play golf and not worry about all the other fuss. And Ping, well they are Ping. Just overall solid in all things they do.
Best golf iron to help your game; single length shaft for consistent strike and hollow body for forgiving off centre strikes. The only one I know if that would fit the bill is the Wishon EQ1-NX. No-one has reviewed this new club yet.
Mizuno Hot Metal Pro over all of these - no crazy offset, decent levels of spin, well priced - and Mizuno custom ordering with lots of shafts and grip choices. In this group I would choose the Titleist and blend it with more controllable spin irons in the shorter irons
Fantastic video! Please can you do this same video but with at the different levels of "players" irons? I'd love to see how for example, Coach's Apex stacks up against the JPX900, the T100s, the P790 (or the insanely expensive P790 Ti), the i500/210, and the Srixon 785. Would be great if they were all the same club number, so then you can compare "like for like", and see the real difference between lofts. I know you've done the comparison with the pure blades already, but I'd like to see that next tier down, because I'm not buying pure blades.
Just got fitted and picked up the T 300's. As a lefty sometimes the availability of clubs, especially from not as popular golf brands like the Wilson D'7's are almost impossible to find. That being said I tried the Sim's, Cobra SZ and the T 300's. Each had their strengths, but the T-300's had the most room to grow into. As somebody who has not reached his golden years yet I wanted both forgiveness but still some still some workability. T-300's checked the boxes. Good vid, thank you.
I've a set of Power Bats with a 31* 7 iron 'Callaway XR Steelhead Pro's My other sets have 7's from 33*-36* I would choose the Epics from 7 - PW, on looks and being Forged only then wedges @ 45, 50, 55 and 60.
I got fitted recently and chose the T300s. One thing you don't see from this review is that 'button' look of the T300s is only in the 4-7. Everything else from 8-W has a more traditional CB look. Shame the weather is so bad I can't use them at the moment!
Cleveland HB Turbo- I recently bought a used Taylor Made Rescue 19 degree and absolutely love it. The Cleveland HB Turbo look like they would suit my eye and the price is great.-Arnie Markowitz-Canada
Just bought the cobra speedzone irons which do have Arcos in as standard and offer a good selection of shafts at no upcharge and are fantastic just like the speedzone driver.Cobra has nailed the price plus performance in the last couple of years but unfortunately Too many people are brand snobs.
I think the difference in loft manufactures are putting on their irons compared to their previous models could make a difference. I’m thinking of buying Ping 425 to replace my G irons but thinking I’ve got to get used to different yardage which could mean certainly more practise with the irons. The other thing with lofts I’m 67 and would start benefiting from rescue clubs instead of 5 & 6 irons. Hey my purchase is going to be about three irons !
Very timely.... Ping G710 formally for purchase tomorrow 2/20 in the States. Nicely done..... thought you would have the Mavrik STD but then again lofts as crazy as the Epic forged.... Cheers guys!
The only one I would choose is the G710 due to loft and looks. It does have lots of offset and a big head, but the black finish would hide it a bit. T300 would be second pick. My current 7 iron is 35 degrees so these are all super strong lofted to me.
Can you explain what is the difference in steel shafts v graphite shafts. I got fitted 10 years ago with graphite and now a steel shaft gives me negative thoughts. Thanks Mark!
24 degrees is the loft of a "traditional" 4 Iron, as WAS the loft of all of my 4 Iron replacement hybrids, until the lofts of the hybrids seem to be getting a bit "jacked" as well.
Mark, you mentioned how people should be looking to combo the Launcher “hirons” with their other iron sets. Cleveland was ahead of the game with their 588 lines they had. Perfect set to blend the Altitude, MT, and TT sets with more compact sets. Maybe they’ll go back to something like them since people are at least a little more open to the idea of blending.
The only ones of this selection I've demoed and hit and got measured for are the T300 ... and it was love at first swipe of the arms. Once the savings fund gets up to enough to afford the 5 to GW set they'll be moving my old mizzys out of the bag pronto. Given the other alternatives were coming in around roughly the same price I didn't even test them but having watched this I may do just out of curiosity now, cheers for yet another excellent and entertaining vid 😄
Just got fitted at club champion , cleveland turbo is the easiest club I have ever hit , long and easy to launch , golfers worry to much about looks, looks doesn't lower your score !!!
The Cobra looks like an updated version of the Yonex Super ADX graphite hybrid clubs I bought along time ago. Passed to my son-in-law 2 years ago. The cost from £1000 to £600.
I play m4 irons so the 5 iron loft is 21.5! and therefore I struggle it. I then also get a 20 yard gap between pw and 48degree cleveland cbx wedge which is also great.
Not so Mr. Crossfield. You are not the only one combo-ing the HB Launcher irons. A local golfer has gamed the 4&5 HB Launcher for a few years instead of his long irons.
Amazing how much thinner the top line looks on the ping, especially if just down to colour. I wonder how well they would age? All the focus was on lenght but the dispersion was pretty shocking across the board, not a good day for coach. How exactly does the turbo work in the Cleveland?
I think the looks of a club cannot be overlooked as a prime reason for buying. If price and performance is the same of course, but the looks of the clubs are important since performances are so similar. I only like the look of the Pings here.
Great video! I'm a golfer that doesn't want more distance or launch, but still want the "forgiveness" of this bracket of irons. I feel a bit stuck when considering new irons to purchase.
more of these videos please. love the discussion. I went for Callaway apex combos, little more help on the 5-7 and nice 8-pw. think more should do combo
I have Ping G410 clubs I bought 6,7,8,9 as I have 48.52. 56, 60 wedges. I had to buy a G410 Wedge as well as there was too much loft between my 48 and wedge which was 44.5deg.
After trying a bunch of sets last weekend, I thought the Mizuno JPX 919 and Wilson D7 staff felt the best for me. I also game a Cleveland Launcher 6 iron.
Excellent video, to the point and frank discussion about things that matter to higher handicappers (which are the ones shopping for these clubs). I currently use the Taylormade P790's with limited success, starting today I'm shopping for a set of Pings, looking at the G700's and the G710's. Great video gents and thanks!
I would pick the Ping G710s because of the lofts as well. It's a bit ridiculous how these golf companies tout distance gains, but they forget to mention that they strengthened the lofts of their irons. I play Ping Eye 2's so those 6 and 7 irons are my 4 iron.
I am looking for new irons now and the lofts are very important. I love the gaping in my current clubs (wedges through woods) and don't want new irons to mess that up.
