Though nearly a year old, this video was just recommended to me tonight. Looks fabulous. I plan to make it. I will make one change, though. When I make French Onion soup I always use half Gruyere and half Emmental. Will do the same for the sandwich. I will add the dried thyme even though that never goes into my Onion Soup.
I was surprised with the Thyme but just made this and it was to die for. Probably used dime size in my palm. I very rarely measure anything unless baking😂
This has become my routine to watch your videos during my breaks! I'm a line cook and I wanted to thank you Sam you inspire me to be creative and try new things for my store. Stay awesome and have a good one! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
guess what man. it‘s the guy again who should‘ve been studying. exams are ober and now i‘m completely shitfaced outside the club and being mad that theres no chance of me getting any of this. but thanks for getting me through studying. you’re the man sam!

@Nathaniel's Phone There are people that have been on those kinds of diets for years. It doesn't work for some people because they don't keep with it. You can't cheat and need to have enough variety in what you eat to be healthy. You can't just eat bacon and steaks every day.
I wanna see you make the following dishes Chilli cheese fries The best steak dinner Overloaded hotdog Calzone Curry Easy and quick late night snacks Love your vids, I just need the right equipment and I can try do your dishes too.
I saw this a few months ago and our daughter made it for my wife and I. Boy it was great we cleaned up the left overs the next day, wonderful sandwich. Been watching you ever since and trying other dishes. Love your channel
Quasimodo ends up having surgery to Remove the hump on his back . When they open the hump up they find an apple, a packet of cheese and onion crisps, a tuna salad sandwich and a kit kat .. It was the lunch-pack of Notre-dame
Are you old enough to know the Thurston Howell III reference? I watched the reruns but I knew it immediately. Just sit right and you'll realize what it's from. You from across the pond or from OZ, mate?
Sam, we are close in age so I'm sure you will remember back in the 70's when beef Wellington and Yorkshire pudding was the rage at restaurants. I used to eat every chance I got! Unfortunately not a thing anymore and I never learned how to make it. Please consider making this timeless duo! Thanks for all the yummy food you create!
@@williamwalsh1533 There can be a lot of reasons to not eat meat! I know at least one person who once had gastric ulcer and who doesn't like the taste of meat in any form since then. No other reason, it's just the taste.
I've gotten MANY requests from friends for my "upscale" grilled ham and cheese sandwich. I saute onions, bell peppers, mushrooms along with cut up pieces of ham, until they're caramelized. And salt, pepper and whatever other seasonings to the mix (I add some garlic powder - if I don't have fresh). Add that to some sliced buttered bread, with sliced cheese of your choice, and grill it. Its a mess of a sandwich, but its amazing!!
Sweet mother of God, this is one of the best things I have ever eaten. Both my kids, one an onion lover and one an onion hater, begged me to make this again. It helps that the sandwich is epic in size and crazy to flip, so they both liked that as well. Thank you Sam!!!!!!!!
I made this on a giant focaccia when the video first came out. My family thought I was a genius. I took a bow and said “And now we eat”. Only one family member got the reference. But now I have at least 5 others subscribed. My kids and their friends ask for this ALL THE TIME! I just made it last night on individual size brioche buns. So much FUN! Again, I was a genius! So a took a bow and EVERYone said “And now we eat”! Thank you Sam and Max. And Louis.
Deltath Riylaan I was operating under the original poster’s idea that it’s a melt instead of a grilled cheese. Generally speaking a roast beef sandwich doesn’t lean towards having cheese melted on it.
@@roundsm18 Every roast beef sandwich I've ever eaten has had melted cheese on it. I think it just depends on the person eating the sandwich and how they like it.
Incredible caramelized onions need the most important ingredient in cooking, time. The lower and the slower, the sweeter; I'm talking like a couple of hours.
I bought this as my first propane grill. It's been a fun, learning experience ru-vid.comUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . I think it's a bit too pricey after looking at other grills, but it wasn't hard to put together and it works really well. I love the side burner option for heating food during a power outage. I have an electric stove and live in the South (Hurricane season), so this was a bonus. I also bought a cover for it and it has protected it nicely (the Char Broil All-Season Grill Cover 3-4 Burner: Large). Every few grill sessions, I take the rack (or grate) and burner covers off and clean them with a non-abrasive scrubby and mild soap. I wipe the excess off of the bottom as well, taking care to avoid the gas and pilot lines.
@@handsomest1 www.reddit.com/r/grilledcheese/comments/2or1p3/you_people_make_me_sick/ tldr, if its not bread, cheese and butter, its not a grilled cheese. Once you add anything else, its a melt.
Roy Choi's onion jam is the basis for his French Onion Soup. Made by not cooking any color into the onions just low and slow for about 2hrs in small amount of olive oil. No salt until cooking is almost done. The sweetness of the onion is unbelievable. Roy taught John Favreau to cook for movie "Chef".
I made this--just on a much smaller scale. Sorry, did NOT use Vermouth (didn't have any, and really didn't think whiskey would be a good substitute haha) and it was still so good served with a side of Dill Potato Chips. My mom loved it, my husband (who HATES roast beef) said "These are good". I thoroughly enjoyed it--so I feel it was a huge win in this house! I've been cooking for 45 years, and I still love learning new things to make. Thanks Sam :)
I am so totally going to make this! I would make one slight alteration, instead of butter, I started using mayonnaise on my grilled cheese several years ago ,the difference is incredible.
Thanks for the inspiration. Instead of eating a boring sandwich alone in front of the tv, I toasted the bun, fried the ham, melted two types of cheese and spicy mayo. Then I ate alone in front of the tv, lol. Thanks.
probably dry. because white cooking wine is generally the dry variety (pinot grigio, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay) Edit: this is because the sugars tend to caramelize and then burn quickly. this is just an educated guess since i've never used vermouth in cooking but i' guessing the same principles apply.
@@ZombiePilot420 While I agree 100% with you just wondering if you are browning onions (caramelizing them) what would it matter if it was sweet or dry.
@@user-neo71665 because the sugars in sweet vermouth are closer to the "surface" while you have to cook the onions long enough to break down the cellular walls in order to release the sugar. So if you add sweet vermouth too early you'll only end up with caramelized booze with undercooked onions whereas theres more leeway with dry vermouth
Delicious sandwich. I'm blind and I suggest to avoid phrases like "turn it like this" and use words to describe the actual action you are showing. Thanks.
Nice job for a novelty sandwich. Pretty good preparation, nicely done on the onions. I think you could use a little of your dijon mustard sauce to cut the richness and complement the beef.
@@samthecookingguy Good look standing outside the shops trying to get Vermouth in Saudi lol :) I used to work for a company shipping western goods to the UAE and they wouldn't even accept hand wash with alcohol in it :p

That is NOT a grilled cheese. Thats a roast beef sandwich with extras thats grilled. Ever notice when you go out to eat they have a “grilled ham and cheese” or a “grilled turkey and cheese”? They dont have a “grilled cheese with roast beef and frenched onion”.
@@joebob9488 Has enough cheese on it to retain the spirit of a grilled cheese though. Looks fine to me. Now im gonna toast me up a grilled cheese and throw some sauteed onions in that bad boy ...
