Great tips. Thanks! I like the look of the cans. Really cool. But have you considered replacing the peat or just not using it at all? Its really bad for the environment. I only use compost and thats fine for containers.
Me personally I use ProMix and Osmocote, that's it. I know people have issues with Scotts MiracleGro company, I try to avoid them, but Osmocote might be too good. If I need it to be organic, I wouldn't mind using slow release organic fertilizer like Biolife. For grow bags I add compost for water retention because they drain more and is more forgiving with the mix. I used vermiculite one year and for some reason I didn't like it very much and how it turn the texture of the mix into. I prefer perlite. I also like very fine size aged pine bark which they have here in the midwest, or if you can run the nuggets through a good woodchipper.
@@Growyourheirlooms trying this again comment kept getting deleted. Some people incorrectly say Osmocote is made from plastic. According to the parent filed by the owner of Scotts Miracle Gro it is made from biodegradable resin coating, from linseed or soybean oil. So take it for what it's worth. I like the fact it doesn't smell so I can use it indoor. It is slow release over 6 months so I don't see issue with salt built up. They go on sale during winter month.
