@@t1germetal bro, this app has opened my GB world to SOO many possibilities! I was thinking of buying an electric guitar, but after finding out, I now use my acoustic guitar and with the app, you can’t tell! Thanks to you and the rest of the company!
So true for BIAS FX! hahaha!.... and right on point for Rhino as the BEST one currently!, Did you noticed Rhino also has an Octaver when you touch the center Rhino head and you can adjust the intensity of it by dragging along up or down the Rhino head, I sometimes even use it jut for the IR loader section as it lets you load 4 different IR and mix between them, so good!
@@andrewharman6861 At this moment the best sounding one for iOS is TH-U Overloud, the people at Aurora DSP abandoned iOS and Rhino as it hasn't been updated since released more than a year ago and they never released their other amps for iOS like Mr Hector as promised
Great insight! Tonebridge is a no brainer for any guitarist. My most used amp is the Nembrini Crunck - just a trickle of gain and it sounds great. That being said, I’m just starting to explore Rhino.
Crunck is incredible and Nembrini are MENTAL for giving it away for free! Rhino is much the same - go easy on the gain and you can get some good clean(ish) tones!
Yeah, I had been waiting for Rhino to come to iOS... such a game changer. Great for recording, but could you imagine a guitarist bringing an interface and iPad to a gig instead of an amp... especially if the venue has a really nice PA.
i actually witnessed that.. was playing before big act on a stadium and that guy obviously got tired of lugging amps... he played with irig and his iphone!
I've just completed a full tour using an iPad! I've still got the hardware stuff ; quad cortex, etc, but wanted to see if the iPad could handle it it handled it very, very capably. Arguably just as good, if not better in some cases (massive flexibility, and the ability to just add things on via auv3 apps if you want more things) I can see myself going fully iOS by the end of the year
Growing up in the 70s and 80s, I used to play through an Ampeg B15-XY, using a SRD 19 inch rack mount effects unit and a Hughes & Ketner Cream Machine. Currently, I am using a first-generation Fender Mustang III. I love the idea of these apps but have no idea where to start.
Every app you’ve mentioned there is either abandonware, doesn’t support AUV3 or is a virtual instrument. Nothing wrong with that, but I wouldn’t recommend any of them honestly. This video focussed on Amp and effect sims - Apps that you would use a ‘real’ guitar with.
Agree 100% the only one I do t use is Klevgrands because the tones aren’t heavy enough as you pointed out. But that doesn’t mean it’s no good. Just no use to me. 🤘Rhino is the Master for me!
A guitarist can lose himself for months in these endlessly cool fun apps. I have a number of these including the expensive one. But I can't remember ever using any of these apps when I was recording in either Garageband or Logic. I guess I'm not very picky and I use the built-in stuff. As you pointed out, it's very good and all most people need. I do like playing with Tonebridge.
Absolutely! Big companies who fail to listen to what their customers want (*cough* Positive Grid not porting apps to be AUv3 compatible *cough*) get left behind. 😂
Great video. I took your advice and now have the full version of ToneStack Pro. I am able to make all the tones I need but I am having trouble with how to record and mix. Any pointers? Thanks Mike
Thanks for the great video! Could you, please, explain how to get to these apps from within the GarageBand? Should one use EXTERNAL/Inter-App Audio? Or AUDIO RECORDER/Instrument?
I’m interested in your top 2 picks , are they auv3 ? Can I use them to record into cubassis 3 ? I have jam up pro but it no longer can be recorded into cubassis 3 so I’ve been limited to the guitar stuff on mixbox .
Hi, Very good video. I use Tonebridge through Macbook +focusrite device linked to my mesa boogie amp. I wonder if there is a way to connect also a footwitch to move from clean to crunch sound automatically during one song? thanks for your advise
Like Nembrini, but a direct cost comparison with alternatives available these days doesn't make sense for individual amp apps. Tonebridge, ChowDSP's free "BYOD"... I mean, we've never seen better free options before now.
I’m just getting started into this world. When it comes to this stuff, I’m a beginner and what I can’t find is anything that tells me what hardware I need to connect to make these apps work. At least nothing that definitively answers my question, which is basically what do I need to buy. I am running a late model iPhone 15 which has the USB-C connector. Some of the things I keep seeing tell me to watch out for adapters and things like that because of issues like latency. So can somebody please give me a clear direction on what I need to purchase in order to get into this sort of thing. Straight answers would be nice for a change.
Bear in mind that I am new to this topic and I am also legally blind. Reading through stacks and stacks of material and webs webs. Webs websites is very difficult. A little guidance would be appreciated without a lot of criticism.
I'm thinking to buy a mac pro but never had one. So i wonder about the free softaware availability. I basically have to play a guitar and sing through an audio interface, and also to process raw format photos, 25mb each, with Darktable, or oher raw photos editor, like rawtherapee. I may be interested in using a Matlab-like suite. Do you think I'm going to have pain in the back?
How do you recall an interaudio app within Garageband ? like when you show you can access tonebridge controls within Garageband ? Thanks for these videos!
Can Tonebridge be synced with Boss Waza Air headphones over Bluetooth. Waza air App works in conjunction with iTunes so I can put on any song from iTunes and play along to it. If I could get Tonebridge into the mix that would be amazing
In Rhino, I can’t seem to find any MIDI Learn capability. Is this true? In ToneStack Pro, I can use my MIDI pedal switches to change a variety of parameters. Seems like a big lack in Rhino.
Hello. I am a beginner base player and look for a mac/iPad/iOS setup for daily practice. Do you have any bass amp sim recommendation? I see there are a lot of options for guitars but not many for bass guitars. I guess it is not ideal but is it ridiculous to use guitar amp sims with a bass guitar??
Sorry for the 101 sound question, but in the artist based sound manipulations, do any of the app's take a shot at Alex Lifeson's big soaring overdriven delay soaked sounds? Love yer vids, thanks LDT
I used amplitiube and now I will try tomestack. Do you guys use a normal descent hifi speaker or connect it to an guitar amplifier? What are your experiences with amplitube? Kind regards and thanks for another great video. Keep on jammin!
I’ve used Amplitube in the past, but I’m not a big fan of their pricing model to be honest. I generally monitor through headphones if I’m tracking on iPad generally.
@@TheGaragebandGuide So I could take the line out from the headphones and plug it into an audio interface and drive monitors? That way I could replace an amp? What about recording into GarageBand? How does that work? Are these plug-ins?
I like Rhino, THU and Nembrini and I tried the Stark app too but I keep coming back to the Saturn app of Fabfilter. That is the main app I use on stage for almost anything I play.
You plonker! you cost me over £100 of goodness that why I love you for them great stuff mate, especially Tonestack Pro "Pot of gold is really golden goodies" and Rhino "Love the damn thing it is awesome and oooof fat as FUCK when you chugging " never thought they will sound this good. Keep up the good work my good friend . Best regards from London
@@TheGaragebandGuide AUv3? whats that… is there any videos explaining that? I use my ipad for running bias fx2 and bias amp2. I have downloaded the softwares you mentioned in the video except for tonestack and stark, as my budget is tight… i will try these one by one.
Apart from Nembrini, all the other apps he chose are complete junk and sound terrible. Scoffing at Bias FX 2 is hilarious, it's easily better than the shite he's chosen. Just wish they would update Bias mobile work with Logic Pro on iPad. The updated Desktop version is on par with Neural DSP IMO. Neural, Nembrini and Bias FX 2 are in the Premier League.
@@TheGaragebandGuide Tonebridge has no volume on my Mac or ipad Pro, even with my gain cranked right up. It also crashes all the time on both platforms. I have tried everything and it's just horrible. Bias just works, sounds great and is infinitely tweakable with EQ settings and Bias Amp 2. I don't need Auv3.
@@TheGaragebandGuide yeah, to get rhino for free or maybe trial? Maybe a gift code for bias fx expansion packs or other programs? Maybe they have something for promotion if you contact them?
Thanks for a great video and comparison!! PLEASE.... I want an iOS app that is geared more towards replacing my pedalboard or multi-fx processor. I want one that supports (a) the use of AUV3 plugins in lieu of physical pedals (b) lets me create and select between presets (at the pedalboard or project level) whilst (b1) keep audio trails when I change to presets (b2) making the preset selection process easy and finally (c) supports control by a MIDI controller as my hands are full of a guitar and pick Thanks!! I really want to ditch my Line 6 Helix floor model and just use my iPad, and while I think AUV3 plugins are amazing, I am skeptical any software "host" supports or well support the preset creation, management and selection. Thanks Again!!
I wonder why plugins are much cheaper for iPad than they are for Mac/PC, lol, not that I'm complaining. The Nembrini 8180 sounds BETTER than the real 5150 stack I once owned; that's insane. As for full guitar/bass layouts, I think the Yonac Tonestack is the best out there, better than even Amplitude or Overloud. Until I got an iPad, I had never heard of them. And their slide app, and their synth/organ apps are unreal. Their organ app has several 60s type organs which no one else emulates. Okay, I'll shut up now. 😛
Maybe you'll disagree, but the best guitar tones plugins don't try to model amps/pedals, just evolve the classics. That's why Rhino is great. Another great is certainly GS VintageClean!
considering switching to pot'o'gold with the tonestack , instead of using the multiple single plugins I'm using currently that poly octave they've got; any way to have a freq cutoff like the boss oc3/ oc5? anyone know? that would be a game changer for me
Informative video .Thanks for posting. I'm considering buying an IPad and using it for guitar. My question is about which app sounds best for natural sounding clean and overdriven sounds. I'm jamming through my Tonex pedal at the moment going into a source audio collider in to 2 Bose S1 pros and like many other amp sims, it sounds great when on a monster heavy distortion sound but overdrive sounds are fizzy and lack warmth and well to me at least ! Clean sounds seem to lack depth and warmth.. Any suggestions in 2024 ?
Pete Johns has had some acceptable results with the native Garageband amps with his acoustic guitar....so, I'm thinking that might work with my cheap nylon-stringed classical guitar, as well....at least until I can finally afford to have my Epiphone Les Paul properly setup and playable.
Very helpful review. I've own a few of these, and have played around with others not mentioned (Amplitube isn't too bad). My favorite however (at least for now) is Overloud's TH-U. I've been very pleased with it and, having an IR Loader is definitely a nice feature to have.
A little late to the game here, but how do you intergrate the apps in the DAW you’re using on the iPad? A bit of a basic question but fairly new to iPad for music production
No problem - full guide here (using GarageBand, concept is the same in other DAWs too) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ElJbHm43a7Q.html
Very nice overview, thank you! I cannot play guitar, so I use Riffler to export a clean .WAV or guitar loops, so what app/plugin can you recommend to use with loops and audio files? Would the audio files need pre/post processing before going into the app?
Hey hello Patrick, I am Andrea and I really hate GarageBand, but the way you share your love for music is absolutely awesome and your voice.. So damn radiophonic. For these two reasons (except garageband 😂) I am officially a new subscriber and please do you know a way to loop a couple of bars in GB (IOS) without hide all the rest of the song? Ciao!
New to your excellent channel and GB. Thank you for your content! Nothing against any of the other plugins! I plan to check them out and especially ToneStack. I am curious about the dislike for Bias FX 2 and the their amp /pedal plugins. I infer from your video is it the cost? What about the sound? On another note, Rhino sounds great but I find the interface intimidating. At least Bias FX and ToneStack have an interface guitar players can relate to (amp faces and familiar pedals). Thank you!
Hey. One year later. I use bias fx 2 live as my main amp and drives (Mac mini) and I use it on iPhone for my backup rig (with an xtone pro) I have to say it is the best sound and UI you can get but, it's feckin pricy in comparison to other apps. (spesificly iOS) You get what you pay for with this stuff, for the most part anyway. I love it but to be fair every app he showed here is pretty class so, pick a UI you like and your most of the way there. (bias has an unlimited amount of pedals you can chain; depending on your phone/iPad's CPU I guess, it's never come up for me. also midi mapping for every little thing, a lot of the other apps are lacking in both of these feature sets. Honestly I have no idea why im still typing, sorry (-:
Thank you for this video. RU-vid is lacking videos like this leaving iOS users in the dark. I'll be downloading these even though I do have Bias FX2 Elite
Hello Patrick. A question if I may? Is there such a thing as a piece of reverb kit that only cuts in when a singer sings beyond a certain loudness? Thanks.
@@TheGaragebandGuide Thank you, Patrick. I didn't know that that is what it is called. Gated Reverb. Thanks. Now I'm going to have to look up what side chain compression means! I'm a newbe!
