All useless. Bachelors degree in these fields are all useless. Get bachelor’s in computer science, engineer and learn to code. No office or hospital will hire you with a bachelors in these useless bachelors degree. They may consider Master with experience. They would hire and train RN over anyone with these crappy degrees.

@@jelloMadison Your statement is not true for the Health Information Management (HIM) degree. It qualifies you to sit for the RHIA certification and there are literally hundreds of jobs looking for this degree and certification, especially the federal government where I work and the pay is great. Just like the video said, medical coding is completely different than computer coding so a degree in computer science would not qualify someone to sit for the RHIA or apply to these jobs. A person with a HIM degree and the RHIA certification can become a medical records administrator or director, revenue manager, medical coding manger, medical coding auditor, clinical documentation specialist, ect. All great paying jobs.

I chose nursing as my pre-med course, it's a very demanding course but it's very fulfilling when you see your clients smile and thank you for the care you've given them. I want to bring the aspect of caring and curing together, to be compassionate and understanding as a future healthcare provider. I am excited to experience medicine as it is.

I’m currently a sophomore getting a BS in HA with hopes for an Accelerated MHI at George Mason University. Their program has 3 different concentrations - Health Informatics, Senior Living, and General Administration (i forget the exact title). There are many many online classes that you can take that are asynchronous so that you get get your degree at your own pace and the major class sizes are relatively small at the max i’ve seen 50. There’s a total of less than 500 people in the major so the professors really care about you and want you to succeed. Definitely worth looking into.

There is an associate degree called Health Information Technology (or Technician) and has many direct-area focus'. Many of the graduates of an HIT or HIMT program go into medical coding or one of another 125 health careers. This is an excellent video. Thank you for making this.

Accreditation is just an easy way to make sure you're learning useful skills. But you're right there aren't many, you can join a non-accredited program but I would research what their coursework is as well as where students end up after graduation. If most people land good jobs then the program is solid

Interesting information. TY. Although I'm a Doctor of Chiropractic who loves what I do, I graduated in 1993 and Healthcare has changed a lot since then. I have 3 kids and there is no way in Hell I'd recommend to any of them that they become a Self-Employed D.C. like I am for the following reasons: ✅ Both Federal and State Governments have their hands all over Healthcare these days. When politicians attempt to solve one problem they inadvertently create about a half dozen new problems. ✅ Big Government is constantly making the small business owner jump through hoops. ✅ Reimbursement is down considerably. I run a 15% Insurance Reimbursement Practice / 85% Self Pay Practice. [Prior to Obamacare kicking in it was the opposite: 85% Insurance / 15% Self Pay.] ✅ The cost of a D.C. degree is nearly $200K now. And since we're a Dave Ramsey family we don't believe in taking on Student Loan Debt. ✅ They never taught us a damn thing about running a business in Chiropractic school. Thankfully I eventually figured that out on my own.

The masters in HIM is called HI or Health Informatics and is also a CAHIIM accredited degree program. It is great for moving into the first area that is addressed by Mr. Khan in the video.

I’m about to graduate with a B.S in Health Services Administration and would love to get into Health Informatics or Health Information Management. Unfortunately, there are no CAHIIM accredited schools in California that offer a Masters in Health information Management, they only offer associates or Bachelors for HIM.
