Sapienza is my "comfort map", if that makes sense. Sure, Paris is the map I know inside and out like the back of my hand, going to Sapienza for a contract or Freelancer mission feels like going on an actual vacation. It's always such a joy to return there.
Whittleton Creek would have to be my pick on comfort maps for the modern franchise. Still haven't got to play 3 though, so i haven't experienced the train map yet 😢
Happy Birthday! These were strong picks for best maps in these games, no doubt about it. However, as a long time Hitman: Contracts player, I think the remade mission "Slaying the Dragon" is also a pretty strong pick for being the best level, at least gameplay wise. it had everything, from many sniping spots, to poison opportunity, option to kill the target with a car bomb, not even mentioning ways people out there completed it suit only. It's very simple and with a lot of possibilities.
For contracts I much prefer meat kings party, the environment is amazing, especially for the time. But I totally agree that they should bring a rainy night manor level
*that Paris map from Hitman 2016 is one of the greatest levels in gaming history. I remember my first time ever playing it. walking around just immersing myself in the stage, exploring everything, fucking around with the AI, dodging guards for HOURS before I even thought about hitting the targets....one of my favorite gaming memories of all time* 👍
my personal vote for absolution has to be one of the last missions where you go to kill the antagonists wife, all I remember from it was getting to the floor with the target and discovering you could disguise as the samurai armour and pick up a katanna. from that point stealth became optional and there where exactly 0 survivors
Hokkaido is good when you get the ability to bring equipment. Having to wait until level 20 before you can start with anything was a terrible idea imo.
The “assassins” in Berlin are pretty much just glorified enforcers. You never really get the sense that they’re actually trying to hunt you down. St. Petersburg Revisited in Silent Assassin with Agent 17 pulled off the whole “47 being hunted” gimmick much better.
Tbh revisited had the advantage of actually surprising the player due to it's briefing and how it looks like a regular hit. Even Sergei's cutout was put on a map as a target and on first play you actually wouldn't really suspect it until it's too late. Another thing is that Agent 17 felt like an actual threat due to his better positioning and the fact he didn't have all that detection meter nonsense, he just fired away the moment he saw you

I actually liked Diana's safehouse mission way more than the nightclub mission. It felt like an actual assassination contract rather than any of the other missions of the game and you had the silverballers as well. Even tho the mission is kinda limited (talking about the gameplay and the map) and the tutorial parts are too boring, it's by far the best mission in the game. If it was a later mission on the game it would be perfect. I give credits for the nightclub atmosphere and music tho. Ohhhh and happy birthday ofc!
Berlin probably has my favorite assassination in the trilogy with the light rig. I hope in future games IO go with fewer convoluted mission stories and more like that which are simpler overall, but not telegraphed to the player step-by-step. Although I'm kind of sad that I played Freelancer before getting to the Hitman 3 campaign so already knew a lot about the Berlin map before doing the actual mission. Totally agree with the rest of the picks for the trilogy, and the only other one I have played so far is Blood Money.
So I'm new to the Hitman franchise (first was Absolution don't judge me pls) and I loved the Hitman trilogy since it was something more akin to the older hitman games with larger maps and more opportunities. I realize the newer games don't do the older games justice as much but I still believe they are valuable additions to the series and I love each map (except Isle of Sgail that gave me a seizure the first time I played it😂)
Agree with everything, it would have been nice if they had put the rain in Berlin, it would have been perfection and it would look like a remake of Hitman Contracts
The World of Assassination trilogy has so much to do around the 21+ huge maps, you'll never run out of ways to eliminate your targets. I have played over 220+ hours of this amazing game and no way am I slowing down anytime soon!

I agree with the trilogy picks, but I also choose the map depending on what my game play is going to be; for instance the Sapienza mission for proper game play and Colorado or Marrakesh if I get frustrated after trying to be stealthy and cause a shit show as a result.
I think the blood money pick is a bit biased as someone from Asia, I didn't really like the straight forwardness the level had. I kinda prefer the boat level where you kill the boss and his 8 goons or whatever as that poses a real challenge and has alot of variety (in my opinion). I just don't think the level where you can just kill all the npcs in under 5 minutes is the best in bm.
For hitman 2 i actually loved hawke's bay, for the atmosphere, and i was hyped. I was a bit disappointed then with the rest of the levels because of that. I just loved indeed the atmosphere of hitman contracts.
I mostly agree with you, but not on Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. Anathema is mostly nostalgia to me since it was the first "true" Hitman level that set up the rest of the franchise, but Invitation to a Party was the best map by a longshot. Among other greats like Basement Killing, Tubeway Torpedo, Jacuzzi Job, Tracking Hayamoto and Shogun Showdown, Anathema just can't compete with its limited scope. I would also have preferred King of Chinatown over Hunter and Hunted for Absolution because it felt like the closest to an actual Hitman level in that game. In Blood Money I have a soft spot for The Murder of Crows and A House of Cards, but your choice is also understandable.
🇮🇳🙏 *LONG COMMENT IN APPRECIATION FOR HITMAN TRILOGY* Hitman games from 2016 to 2021 are my all time fav games ever personally even as a hardcore hitman fan from old days I didn't find much to nitpick in them. It's a miracle how after all the developement issues these games still hold quality (some inconsistencies yes like the rushed cutscenes in hitman 2018 but even then the narrative was so good and still picture cutscenes did good job)and ended on a high note with the third and most recent hitman 3 even having a great story. And plus... All of it you can play in vr now. Graphics.. look great and with ray tracing it looks immaculate now esp. the china level. Also.. mild spoiler but the very first e3 trailer from 2015 for first Hitman season is basically the end of hitman 3 showing all upcoming locations and targets and the trailer ends with Diana saying.. it's good to have u back. Also theres a cool hidden ending which will blow your mind if you've played hitman c47 like me the very first game of series. Hitman isn't even supposed to compete with other games on basis of guns/ cars/ effects explosions etc yet cyberpunk looks trash even compared to hitman. Graphically speaking, cybertrash ain't got shit on Hitman's Berlin and china level for eg. The real meat of hitman is NPC / target characters and world stories especially the dialogue and replayability. the amount of hidden dialogues is impeccable in these hitman games. I don't think it's even possible to hear everything from every scenario you can create and that's not even counting the scripted story stuff you hear in mission opportunities. The dialogue here is the stuff of legend in the whole gaming I'd say. We praise writing for tlou or uncharted and things like that but story telling here is so different. And so immediate. For eg comments on how NPCs after waking up from a knockout say and even change dialogue based upon whether or not they witnessed you before being knocked out, whether they remember you, what disguise you wearing, who are they detailing your info to? Is it a guard or a fellow NPC , the NPCs will describe your illegal actions to guards surprisingly in a very detailed and varied way, guards will taunt you and command you to drop various items by their names while trying to arrest you and even alert others if you try to shoot with empty gun, NPCs even will even have a funny comment if they realize you're wearing their clothes after knocking them out and they're naked. then there's gunpoint/ getting shot dialogue, subdue dialogue, nps commenting on your disguise and even noticing things like if you're wearing a too hot of an outfit on a sunny day or a different/ whacky suit that has no context to the location you're playing in, all elusive targets have their own backstories and that content most people never dive into that extensively. Infact content of elusive targets may now be forever lost and all of it never felt like a side / low effort chore. It all had its own briefing videos, own voice acting, own stories, own character moments with targets and had the same attention and care as the main missions from the main game. Then there's so many "hidden" dialogues for eg in the 2016 the landslide mission, after killing Marco abiatti his bodyguard will go to the tower to his colleagues and be sad about how he couldn't save his boss and he'll be fired again which will make things difficult for him and his pregnant wife. Just the sheer amount of backstory details in these new hitman games is quite simply ridiculous. The dialogue frankly to me seems endless. Like is said, It's literally impossible to have heard everything for every scenario in these games
I agree with you on Traditions of the Trade for Codename 47, and it was also done lovely in Contract. But I'll share my favourite maps from the series, too. HM2: Silent Assassin, Basement killing(seting of the smoke for the fire fighters was a cool idea) HM: Contract, This was hard as 90% of mission in this are great but The Seafood Massacre probably because it was my first getting a Silent Assassin 🎉 on this mission and its fun. Hitman: blood money, Flatline or Murder of the crows Love them both. Hitman Absolution; Skurkys Law not going to lie wish we get a similar map in the newer games. HM:2016, Again all good missions but some like Bangkok just missed the mark but i do really enjoy hokkaido no item or weapons start my issue with the map is too much glass n small corridors. HM2, whittleton creek because or the bank in new York both examples on how a to do a map with freedom to tackle the objectives with out feeling like a chore. Hitman3, Chongqing is the closest we get to a dark mission like hitman contract had.
mine prob would be 1: Traditions of trade (well as you said its rlly open and good map) 2: invitation to party/ last mission(i liked the vibe of part in emabssy and you needing to race with spetnaz agent and last mission coul depend on how good you were at collecting guns during entire game so i rlly liked it, plus if you try to go silent its quite a nice challange) 3: Beldingford manor/ meat king party (both had rlly good atmposhare and gameplay, i would even argue that meat king had less "gameplay" than beldingford 4: i would prob go with either chile or hell/Heaven party(chile because idk i just liked it and hell/Heaven was the missions that would make teenage me hard xd) 5: Dexter industires/ Hope (just because i liked the atmosphare) 6: Colorado (i know ill prob will get killed for that anserw but this map brings so much nostalgia) 7: Isle of Sgail/ Haven island (atmopshere and vibes. I rlly liked secert society part of Sgail) 8: Apex Preditor (when i first played it i was like, Oh look the map based on clubs I attend xd)
I have to disagree a bit. Hitman 2's best level was Isle of Sgail. I personally think it was the best map in the ENTIRE trilogy, not just Hitman 2. It has everything you can ask from Hitman map.
did you consider new york when picking out hitman 2s best map? New york is phenomenal it has such a great atmosphere, great music, great level design, and a great target.
It be cool if you saw this been i revisit the games a lot I wish we could get another contract memory lane style dlc or remastered old maps invitation to a party I loved most of the blood money maps
I've played Paris so many times since it was the only map released first for Hitman 2016 at the time, that I truly struggle to understand why people love it so much. I feel like I must've overdosed on it and am now completely blind on why people enjoy it as much as they do.
Since I've only finished Absolution and the trilogy, (Though I don't remember much from Absolution) I gotta agree with Hitman 1 and 2 (Though I'd give an honorable mention to Whittleton Creek) but I can't go same for Hitman 3. Apex Predator is 2nd for me, still absolutely great, but not as great as Farewell.

Bro Berlin???? Berlin over Dubai or the Carlyle mansion is crazy Dubai was beautiful graphics and the mansion felt like you were actually solving a mystery it was way btr than Berlin imo I just went in and went out of Berlin such a high stress map and so noisy
