Great Video, Thank you! I wanted to list some things that werent explicitly said that caused me some confusion/faiilures 1. Ho-oh's second form removes stat buffs, So stacking chandelure in phase 1 is just to be able to consistently do the set up for phase 2 2. Belly Drum on the turn you initiate phase 2 allows you to get the stat bonuses, as well as manipulate Ho-oh's attack selection to Solar Beam Poliwrath 3. The last move/switch you make with alteria (in phase 2) is to make Alteria the target of the solar beam. thanks again for the video!
Thanks for these points! My bad for missing them! Hard to remember what mechanics to explain after doing the fight so many times 😅 One more to add is that sky drop is a flying attack in which flying types are immune! I don't think I actually stated that in the video. That's why it targets poli, because it'll be super effective against fighting but Altaria is immune to the damage
@@JinxedBoon Yes, you're right, sorry. I'm not a native English speaker and had simply overheard the second belly drum XD. This method works well and I've just managed it. Thank you :)
It took way more work than it should have to understand their videos 😅 luckily I used to play monster hunter online so I'm pretty used to translating from Chinese
I found with a very budget team, if entei came in first it would do that but would be fine with raikou or suicune first. I'm not really sure why though
The Hooh keeps Earth Powering my Chandelure instead of attempting to Sky Drop my Poliwrath....?????? Then once I finally get over that hurdle, Hooh Air Cutters my team in Radiant phase instead of Air Dropping Polowrath....any suggestions???
@dylanstotts9438 never seen the earth power thing but sometimes on a budget build, it seems to target chandelure if entei comes out first. As for the second part, it sounds like you are mistiming the belly drum. You need to use it on the last turn of phase 1 so it activates as you enter phase 2, before phase 2 move selection.
@@JinxedBoon funny thing is I've heard that before, but Raikou came out first this time? And yes I timed the belly drum correctly, so idk what's going on w phase 2. To be clear, I've completed the fight multiple times with Entei coming out first giving me the only problem. Not sure why all of a sudden this is happening with Raikou out first...
Thanks that's cool i just don't understand what's the point if getting the right pokemons with the right stats is more work than the fight itself. I did this in a couple tries but it's just not a fun fight, it's made for tryhars pve players while being a miserable experience to who just wants to enjoy the game
@ZennybearOG to each their own! I really enjoy figuring out the difficult content but I get why some wouldn't. I do think in a long term mmo, it is important to have challenging fights like this though. Story is great for experiencing the game but the mmo mechanics are important for long term retention and enjoyment/economic balance.
@@JinxedBoon you guys are crazy and i mean it the good way! Meanwhile i feel like switching back to normal silver because it's so much more relaxed lol
Welcome to the game! Yeah this can be decent money as a weekly once Johto is done! Check out my trainer rerun video for probably the best early game money making strat!
tnx for this i love the fact that you incorporated e4 poli and chande for this one, as its more efficient built team for multiple purposes. hoping for more future quality content. cheers
Definitely glad to have multi purpose pve mons! I bet all 3 of these will be great in raids soon too! Altaria could be amazing to shut off weather controlling raid bosses
im using budgets, poli is missing 31 def, chandelure is missing 31 hp and def. EVs are all correct tho. AI takes different decisions, figured the pre reborn phase, post he is just doing air cutter and cooking my poliwrath...
That is usually due to mistiming the belly drum. You need to use it in the last turn of phase 1 of the fight then it'll go off in phase 2 before move selection occurs. If poliwrath is full health during phase 2 move selection, hooh will just air cutter
@jonathankraut6503 probably mis timing the second belly drum. Make sure to use it on the last turn of phase 1 so that it goes off after the ko and in phase 2 before move selection
@@JinxedBoonit is still a problem even when timing is right, seems to be nerfed. It will always do solar beam turn 1/2, then third turn is always air cutter to kill poliwrath
@whosTreq mine is still working fine with the proper 5x31 and nature/moveset. I'm assuming you have some budget ones so like I mentioned in the video, it seems like when running budget and entei comes out, hooh goes for chandelure instead of poli
@whosTreq oh yeah, itll work perfect with suicune and raikou start but otherwise you will need to alter a bit! Not sure why it gets weird with the entei lead on a budget though
@@JinxedBoon it always uses that crit wind. It never used Solarbeam. Wish this could be as easy as Red sweep lol. That KO the first form at the same time with Belly Drum is quite tight.
@@JinxedBoon budget with 27-31ivs across 5 stats. Also is it really necessary to set a sub on Altaria? Somehow Ho-oh skydrop already has no effect on Altaria dealing no damage.
@rageengine6272 weird and you are modest, adamant, and a sdef nature on them? You don't need sub but it'll save you time by skipping sky turns. Sky drop is a flying move but does no damage to flying types, which is why it doesn't affect altaria. I forgot to mention that in the video
@PIKI1Pioneer I'm guessing that is a mistimed belly drum. You need to make sure belly drum is chosen in phase 1 but as you transition into phase 2. If move selection happens in phase 2 with poli at full hp, hooh will choose air cutter
for some reason (probably my evs/ivs) if entei come in first he extremespeeds poli and ho-oh attacks chandelure, i cant use altaria to eat both attacks so if i start the battle and entei comes first i just run and go back up. every other dog BEHAVES, entei is just a bad boy.
Arceus didn't do a good job training entei! But yeah if you are on a budget build, for some reason entei changes the ai, I'm not sure why or what the break point is. With the proper build there is a very small chance it happens too but I have about 60 hooh clears with the proper setup and it's only done this 1 time
I'm actually reworking the mori/cynthia strat to work with the chandelure and poliwrath since they are so good for e4 also! E4 guide coming tomorrow too if all goes according to plan!
amazing video guide! i struggle at first until i understand the substitute lock, i even had time to set up safeguard and the belly drum for final phase. you are grate!
When Ho oh starts with Entei he'll sky drop the chand rather than the poli. Too offset this I started with Alteria in the middle just in case to swap to chand since it dies to sky drop. Issue is that the Entei extreme speeds the poli and kills it. Thoughts on getting around this? Also I swapped ice punch for waterfall since it'll one shot the Entei even if Raiku comes in before it.
I tried it but for some reason ho-oh attacks and oneshots my chandelure. During the first turn i set safeguard with chandelure instead of altaria. Could that be because i didnt use calm mind on it?
@ben.nguyen253 with certain budget builds it can happen when entei comes in first. I'm not sure why but it seems to happen more the more budget the team gets.
Thanks for the suggestion Jinxed. It work for me though mine is composed of 26 Iv average with correct nature. Though I need to repeat it twice cuz I forgot the shiny Ho-oh Strat. Please upload more vids for us new players. More Power🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Once you get the strat down, it's super easy! I've been doing it 4 times per week since I discovered the strat! Glad it was helpful! More definitely on the way
Once you get the hang of it, it's super easy! I'm doing it on multiple alts weekly now and it's a breeze! But I made a ton of mistakes in my first few runs trying to learn it so just keep practicing!
I tried mantine and chandelure first but it didn't work, then I found this strategy and I was able to defeat him 5 times in a row, thanks. It took me 3 tries to understand it tho XD
Tried this and Radiant Ho-oh just kept spamming Air Cutter. Wiped my team easily. When it went into Radiant form, it cleared all my teams stat increases too.
Yup it does that. This is why you need to belly drum going into phase 2 with safeguard up. Then it'll just solarbeam your poliwrath since it is low hp (assuming your build is correct)
When I tried this Ho oh now uses a different move where it's one term air slash rather than solar beam in the second stage making this team not really work now? Do u have a solution
Unfortunately, it doesn't work because the radiant Hooh uses the attack Air cutter on the first turn. And on the second turn of radiant Hooh all my Pokemon are death, except altaria. Any Hints for me ?
@@JinxedBoon Yes, you're right, sorry. I'm not a native English speaker and had simply overheard the second belly drum XD. This method works well and I've just managed it. Thank you :)
Like I mentioned in the video, if you are running more of a budget team, it seems like it will pick up chandelure but only when entei is the first dog to come out. I'm not sure exactly why
@marcussunde4737 yup he won't use it on the first turn of phase 2 if you time belly drum correctly though. Make sure to choose it on the last turn of phase 1 before going into phase 2
Gotta time that Belly drum this video saved me tons of time. Also I did this with a budget team everyone Alteria Sassy IV's 164 Poliwrath Adament IV's 126 & Chandlure Modest IV'S 160
@Miden1437 hope that means you solved it! Let me know if you need anymore help! It should work with a budget team most of the time! Only issue seems to be when entei comes in first and I'm not sure why
Hey, wouldn´t it be more usefull to use waterfall insted of ice punch on poliwrath for more damage because its 2x effective and stab? or is there a particular reason for ice punch?
Yup! I put that note in the video as text! The reason for ice punch is because it's the same one you can use for the E4 reruns. If you are just doing it for hooh then use waterfall though!
Thanks! Probably $50-70k for altaria, $80-120k for budget chandelure, and poliwrath is the expensive one to be 100% consistent but you can get away with an ~$80k one as shown however that does introduce a bit of rng. So it'll take about 2 runs to pay itself off on a budget
I started this fight on my alt account and when ho ohs second form appears. 1 turn after my chandelure loses +6 sp attack making fight un winnable 4 times in a row. Is this a bug. The same team worked on my main account.
@SHMlKE good luck! Let me know how it goes for you! Another tip I found recently is if you use altarias turn to swap with poli after the first solar bean in phase two, you can save a turn since poliwrath won't go down!
I don't see any reason why not but the AI can get weird with certain stat thresholds. Chandelures build isn't very important though so you should be good! Let me know if it works if you try it!
@@JinxedBoonThanks for the reply (and the guide!). I'm currently making the other 2 Pokémon, fingers crossed it doesn't mess with the ai! I'll let you know. Thanks again.
@@JinxedBoon Timid worked perfectly! I lost on my first try (completely my fault, i didnt follow the guide properly...), but it was super easy the second time. Thanks for taking the time to make the video, this method is awesome.
@@SHMlKE I continued without Chandelure until the 3 dogs were down then used a Revive, xSpAtk, xSpDef and swapped until Calm Mind got to +6, then continued as the video. I originally commented thinking once Chandelure was gone it was lost.
Yup! Spatk doesn't hurt for the final phase but he is only attacking once or twice and just doing 3-6% anyways. Unless you are using it for something else, I'd just go as cheap as possible with it since it isn't dual purpose like chandelure and poli
To make the proper team, just under $2m probably that is for the 5x31 for e4 runs to. Doing the budget ones is less consistent but probably $250k total or so
The two reasons I recommend this strat over the mantine strat are that it's WAY faster and second, since the LNY event, it seems like Hooh is prioritizing the AoE that wipes stat bonuses so you would have to calm mind all the way back up again. Not sure if Mantine has a way to deal with that but it seems most strats that require chandelure to calm mind to +6 in phase two are very inconsistent now
@@JinxedBoon Start of the phase 2 I did belly drum but since he does air cutter there was not enough HP on Wrath therefore it fails. And boss keeps spamming air cutter till Altaria remains. I have the 3 pokemons exactly you said on video.
@Rivena3 you need to belly drum in the last turn of phase 1 on the same turn chandelure KOs phase 1 hooh. That way you will use belly drum before hooh chooses and attack in phase 2 and it'll choose to attack the low HP poli
@JinxedBoon not really, I have a 1/3 chance of just having the fight work perfectly which isn't too bad. But without entei starting everything went good... you weren't joking about high IV poke... got me to 1 hp and me getting him to 1hp multiple times. Every little bit helped lol 😆
Hey man, really appreciate your channel! I have an issue with this setup, i'm trying to follow your steps but after the first turn ( safeguard - belly drum - calm mind) ho - ho just sky drops my chandelure. Am i missing something?
Thanks dude! I found that if you are running a very budget version, when entei comes in as the first beast, for some reason it makes hooh go for chandelure. In my testing, it still worked with budget versions if raikou or suicune came first but you might just need slightly better ones or to keep trying until the different beast comes in!
@@JinxedBoon Yes, i realized that bad rng can ruin your run pretty quickly. i struggled a bit but after like 15 tries i finally made it :) . at first i had no idea what i was doing but now i think i nailed it, I coached a friend of mine and he made it first try! So thanks again for you help dude, really appreciate it
@leonardovaccaro2038 glad it worked! Just a heads up, if you decide to get non budget team, there is no rng! I run it 4 times per week perfectly smooth!
When you get a chance could you create a guide for e4 re running? I wanna build this team in your vid and use it for both but cant find the team comp that utilizes poliwrath. Thanks
I should be working on it soon! I have a few streams that I do it in so you can check those out (although I'm really distracted by doing the stream so I make some mistakes!) Otherwise feel free to dm me on disc and I can send you the team! Should have a guide out at some point though!
