Am I the only one who would love to see the space a few months after Cas organized it? I want to see how easy it was for the client to maintain
@reneeprasil6153
@reneeprasil6153 10 месяцев назад
@susanjardim4431 She said in at least one of her videos that the entire reason she created the 'clutterbug system' is because when she used to organize a client's home without it, the client would call her back in 2-4 weeks asking for it to be done again. When she realized that people need to organize in different ways and she honored those ways, they stayed organized. Hence, the 'Clutterbug" system!

Cas, you low-key saved my marriage! 😅😅 My husband is a butterfly and absolutely WILL NOT put things away unless they’re on hooks or in clear bins in his drop zones. But I didn’t know this until I had him take your test. Now we have less squabbles about his “messiness” because he’s not “messy” anymore! So thank you! 😇😇 (P.S. We found out he has ADHD, which helped explain soooo much.)

This might help those who have trouble finding their organization style because it varies: For digital stuff, I’m a cricket - NOTHING on the desktop, but everything tucked away into folders within a detailed, logical hierarchy. For crafty stuff, I’m a total bee - cover fabric in this open box, trims in that one, lace in a third, and myriad open containers for scissors, paperclips etc (no lids, no doors, or I won’t find it or use it, easy retrieval is KEY). Same for my wardrobe - I need detailed categories but I MUST SEE EVERYTHING. For cleaning, paperwork and exercising - the not-so-fun stuff - I’m a butterfly. I need to see the mop, or I won’t mop, I need to see the dishcloth or I won’t wetwipe, but I can store those things a little more jumbled. For papers, broad categories are key because otherwise I’ll give up before I’ve even started. So yeah, it can vary between different areas of your life.

!! So true! I think I prefer Uber organization that is hidden. I obsess over organization to the extreme, and I don't want to see stuff everywhere (no clutter!) But... Out of sight, out of mind. If it's not visible, I forget it's there, so it's just not practical for me. And... I have ADHD, so it has to be EASY, or again, not practical. So, Uber organization that I prefer, isn't practical for me. So even though in my heart I WANT to be a Cricket (and organizationally, I LOVE My categories!) But My body and brain say I must be a butterfly? Visual & broad categories... If only I could make Cricket style work for me...

Congratulations! We are celebrating our 20th next month (and also have no plans yet!). One creative thing I've done in the past is I had his watch repaired, something he would never do on his own. Then I made a treasure hunt for him to find it, with clues hidden around the house. The first clue was in his back pocket (oh I'm sneaky like that). He loved it and still talks about it. So I guess my advice is to find something from your past and bring it to life again. Recreate a first date; day-rent his beloved sports car from his bachelor days; take him somewhere he's always wanted to go, break out the wine from your wedding day that's been sitting on the shelf. To us, special isn't about things, but memories. Good luck!

I "kidnapped" my husband on one of our anniversaries, I made reservations packed his clothes then went to his workplace, I drove around the parking lot until I found his car and then waited for him to come out to it, when he did, he was to see me, I told him to get in, be quiet, and not ask any questions he was so surprised and shocked he couldn't barely speak for awhile anyway I drove to the hotel, it was about twenty miles when we got there, I handed him the bag and told him to carry it and follow me we checked in, and when we got to our room, I said you are all mine for two days and nights no phone, computers, just us and the scenery it was wonderful; the hotel was in Yosemite, and we spent that entire weekend exploring it was amazing, and he still brags about it to his day [it was ten years ago for our fifteenth now what to do for our thirtieth which is coming up quick!

I’m watching this video and two sanity-saving tips came to mind. #1: using lingerie mesh bags for family socks. Each person puts their dirty socks in the bag after use. When you do the laundry, each person has all their socks matched and clean. #2: when my kids had bunk beds, I bought Full size comforts and top sheets. I would tuck the excess under the mattress at the back so it was easier to make the bed every day. I hope these two tops help someone else as much as it did me 😊

I totally “get it!” My situation is like yours. I’m a Virgo trying to accept my daughter-in-law’s different priorities. I’m afraid my standards have changed as I can’t do what I want to do. So I try to accept things as they are. It’s not always easy. But I don’t want my family to be uncomfortable. I think we all want a happy home with love. So we accept what we probably can not change. I’m not going to die on this hill. So I do what I can and sometimes I ask for the help. My daughter-in-law does so much for me, so I don’t want to hurt her feelings. It’s just not worth it. We move on 🥰 in the “not so” perfect house.

Get his truck detailed. Set it up with a good local person in your area and take care of scheduling it for him Ata time that works for him. And maybe give him a full day of his favorites? Or make him a "good old days" flipbook of your favorite memories together and things that you're so thankful for where he's really been an amazing partner, dad, provider, whatever is important to him. Doesn't have to be fancy.

As a user experience designer, one of my favorite takeaways from user behavior courses is “users aren’t lazy, they’re efficient.” I’ve taken this to heart and started to apply it elsewhere in life outside of work, and it’s like what you said at the beginning of this video! People aren’t lazy; if a system doesn’t work for them they’re not going to use it, they’re going to find ways around it, or they’re going to break it trying to make it work.

Cricket living with a bunch of ladybugs here. Works really well! As long as I don’t have to see all our things I don’t mind having open bins and baskets with bigger categories. However, I keep our cabinets and closets tidied because I can’t stand mess even behind closed doors. Realising our organising styles was a game changer for sure. I never understood why my detailed systems didn’t work for everyone else and used to be very annoyed about them cramming everything everywhere. Now I live like a ladybug and enjoy my family actually keeping up with my level of tidiness!

Omg I’m SO a Bee, and a crafter. Before I was diagnosed with adhd last year, my husband had actually helped me deal with the Bee habits a lot. My craft room was so overloaded with stuff! He made me look at things, and if they were “someday projects”, pack them in totes and move them to the basement. Then, months later when I was in the mood to sort and organize that stuff, it was easier to realize and admit to myself what I probably would never get around to using, and was therefore much easier to get rid of.

In a matter of days, hubby and I will have been married for twice as long as you have. When he traveled without me, I would tuck notes in his clothing and the pockets of his suitcase and briefcase to surprise him. He loved it. Valentine suggestions for something simple would be like a book of coupons for gifts - like homemade cookies, or breakfast in bed, or a coupon to get out doing one of his regular chores (like taking out the trash or whatever) what we call a lazy day coupon in our family. Or just the splurg of a nice lunch out while the kids are in school. It doesn't even have to be on Valentine's Day (because reservations might be hard to get last minute) but basically time together is the best gift.

It was a wooden wall hanger with pegs, onto each of which you would put a spool of thread. Oh, how I hated having my threads hanging on the wall like that! Every time I walked by that corner, I had to tidy any loose hanging threads. They always had to be organized by color and size of spool. What a pain to keep it looking good! @@dragonfliesfordonna2112 I no longer sew (just decided that I like doing other things more), so I can't really say that I solved that problem. I'd suggest, though, that you organize your stuff in drawers, any type you like as long as they're not transparent. I would think that a cricket could make a separate drawer or section of a drawer for each type of supply, with nice labels on the drawer and whatever other organizational tricks that you like. The part that would be hardest for me would be how to deal with the portions of your projects that are in the middle of being done. Also the sewing machine and such, which you wouldn't want to keep packing up and putting away. In a perfect world, you might have a closet or large cabinet that could be dedicated to your machine and work table - the type of thing that can be closed when you're not actively working. For those of us without space or budgets to allow the optimal solutions, though, I am not sure how we'd approximate a similar outcome.

I totally appreciated this video. Even though it was long it was packed with great real life solutions. As for Valentines day, it's hard to say what to do for your husband, but it should definitely be something HE likes. Would he like to do something with the guys? Would he like a romantic evening? Would going to a sports event, sport or outdoor activity or even a movie of his choice be fun? Is there a special food you can make for him or bring home for the evening? (restaurants are the worst on Valentines Day). My favorite Valentines day was a special night at home with a candlelit dinner. I made steak and fixings. We had special drinks and we visited around the very small dinner table for a couple of hours with the kids. It was a day for all of us to show our love for each other and just have a nice evening together. The kids have never forgotten it (they're in their 40's now) because it was about being together and laughing and just enjoying each other's company. I hope your evening turns our well!

I make something each year for Valentines. In 2022, I gave my husband a wooden box that I painted. Each day, for a full year, I gave him an inspirational business card which I dated and sometimes wrote messages on especially important dates like going to a play. After a year, on 2-14-23, I represented this box with 365 cards to him again as a positive reminder of our 25 years of marriage. He gives me an “I Hate Steven Singer” Gold Dipped Rose. I have 13 roses with a display stand and they are on display in our living room. I had to put a stop to the yearly Vermont Teddy Bear because I don’t have the room to display them which makes me sad. We also go to our favorite Italian restaurant for dinner.

Hi Cass! OMG I’m a huge fan for years and you’ve helped me organize my house with your positive (and humorous) inspiration as well as your insightful tips for different organizing styles. This has been especially useful for helping my husband, even if he has no idea! Hehe. Anywho… your question at the end was so sweet. I think a simple note aka love letter to Joe with 22 reasons why you’re grateful that he is your person would be an impactful yet simple gesture on a day dedicated to love. ❤️

I think for Christmas one year I took a empty wine bottle filled it with koolaid (my husband doesn’t like wine). I decorated the bottle with stickers that said love an such. Had two fancy wine glasses an had a friend light some candles just before we got home from shopping. I had just two chocolate cupcakes there one for each of us. It wasn’t anything super fancy or expensive but it was special all the same

I am definitely a Ladybug. 3-4 summers ago, we had a huge yard sale that covered several tables in a 2-car garage, things on the lawn, and tables (plywood on sawhorses) under our 10 x 20-foot covered patio. My husband looked around at all the stuff and asked me were everything had been "hidden" because nothing looked different in the house. I told him that I knew how to pack and store stuff away. I've learned a lot from watching your videos, absolutely love-love-love baskets and bins, and still have a long way to go. Thanks to a fellow Ladybug.

For your hubby for Valentine's Day you could buy something he would need for his hobby or something he likes to do. Gift cards for his favorite store or a book (for the bookworm) about his favorite person, event or location. Replacing camping equipment that's worn out would be great for the camper, fisherman or hunter. Only you would know what to buy. Then start now keeping a list on your phone of things he mentions that he likes.

I cry as I watch these videos. It appears so easy, but with disabling conditions, both physical and mental, I am not sure where to begin. Then I hesitate because I am thinking I will do it wrong, and very little gets done. The thing is, I used to be so organized and uncluttered. Talk about frustration. I am unsure if brain trauma occurred with my PTSD (US Army) and eventually my brain got scrambled for (lack of) organization, or if the lupus and other autoimmune disorders did it, or a combination of any of the above. God bless my dear husband for all the support he provides. I keep trying.

I really enjoyed this video. I believe I'm a lady bug? I stuff but my house is still cluttered. We moved from Florida in Oct to NM and it all happened so fast that we didn't have time to purge. We had a moving van. My 36 yr old daughter passed in Oct 2021, and my grief has also been a paralyzing factor ever since, and in my new house. I'm finally getting the energy/inspiration to take care of my house. Most of the food put in the moving van has to now be tossed because it was stored on the truck for 10 days in the heat. I have to go through all of that now. I just took pictures of big item things we don't need to sell them on FB marketplace. That's inspiring me. Thank you for your professional videos with ideas and inspiration. I love your personality.

For Valentine’s I’m taking Hubby to his favorite rib restaurant. Montgomery Inn Boathouse. It’s a little more upscale and pricy but well worth it. I have a football shaped tin that I put his favorite Reeces cups in every year. I have a heart shaped tin that I put my favorite milk chocolate Dove pieces in. I just reuse the tins every year and buy the small bags of chocolates. Much less expensive than buying special Valentines candy and heart boxes every year. Hubby usually gets me two dozen roses. Very beautiful. Except for Sweetest Day in October we don’t miss a chance to celebrate. Maybe there is a museum in the area your Hubby would like to visit like a motorcycle museum.

I have a 4th rule for decluttering that really helps me: Do I want to or really have to touch/organize this item again? I hate organizing, anything I don't really love, anybody in my home really loves, or is vital goes. As a fellow butterfly I recommend to take pictures of the ideal state and put it beside the space so you will remember and so you can see your progress. I came up with this after learning about the "silent to-do" list,i.e. that every item in your home gives you a job. You decide whether you want or must do it.

So as a super minimalist I just wanted to say this video was very helpful, even for me. I don’t have much at all, but what I do have needs organizing. I took the quiz and found that I’m a cricket, however the ladybug style seems more me. Even a minimalist needs organization 😅. Adding this, for your husband, either make or get a take out meal that you know he absolutely LOVES. As a minimalist, I’m all about consumable because who needs more things. My daughter in law got my son a take out platter from the best seafood place in town (coastal NC so this is our jam lol!) for their anniversary AND cooked him the best steak she could find. He was SO HAPPY!

I know I am a Bee for sure, when you talk about (in an other video) how you have different bug styles in your home...I want to know how to figure out my kid's bug style because I have ADD, they are ADHD and I feel as though all my efforts to help keep their space are for none, that maybe our bug styles aren't the same 🤷‍♀️. As for Valentines Day, how unique do you want to go... the coolest thing I ever set up for my husband was a scavenger hunt. I went to businesses, bought something there like a gift card, a single flower, a T-Shirt...he got these along with a card directing him to the next destination thanks to businesses willing to help and play along. After sending him on his way to scavenge I got dressed up and went to meet him at the final destination where we enjoyed quality time together talking and enjoyed an awesome desert! While this was for his birthday, to this day it is still a fun highlight event I did for him!❤️

Hi Koffeegypsy. My kids are grown so I have some perspective on the journey of each child - I have 4. When they’re little and just learning to put things away, everything is about macro, no lids, simple sorting. They can’t read yet so use pictures as labels, like the white toy organizer. As they get older, their personalities develop more and each will have a different way of organizing. That style may, or may not, stay with them. And sometimes they’ll e one style in their room and another in their schoolwork. Cass gives great clues on what to look for with each bug. When they’re old enough to answer the quiz questions, take the quiz with them and see what they say. My oldest (30) is a Ladybug, and my youngest (19) is a butterfly. I’m a bee, like my 2nd child. 3rd child is pure chaos! Lol. I suspect my husband is a ladybug, too, which is the exact opposite of a bee so we struggle. But it’s good to know and using Cass’ tips make it easier. I hope that helps. 😊
