Thanks, Stephen... certainly one of our favourite pies... kinda like the taste of summer in cottage country! Hope you can try the recipe - thanks for watching!!!
My friend who’s 92 has talked about eating Rhubarb pie as a kid for years, I’ve always eaten strawberry/Rhubarb as it’s my favorite but Ive wanted to bless him with his favorite childhood treat so I’ve have finally been able to harvest enough at once to make one for him. I think I will be trying your recipe tomorrow.
Unfortunately he ended up in the hospital yesterday with an infection that’s causing all kinds of problems though you wouldn’t know it by just talking to him anyway all he could talk about was how much he liked this pie and wished he had more, so I took a piece to him and he ate it while in the ER. This morning when I checked in with my friend “his wife” she was at the hospital with him and said he was back to once again talking about how good this pie is. There is one piece left but I had to go out of town today, so I was unable to take him another piece. I just wanted you to know your pie has made a 92 year old man very happy, even from the hospital.
It’s a rhubarb season in France and it’s our 5 anniversary since we met with my boo so im about to try your recipe, however i have to use vanilla sugar instead 🫣. Thanks for the recipe ❤
Hi! I love your pie how it looked, to bad I couldn't taste it. LOL I made one today it turned out prefect. I didn't have time to make my own pie dough, so I bought one from the store. Thank you so much for, sharing your recipe... Thanks again, Nada
Hi Nada and Tim! Thanks for trying the recipe - it's really one of my favourite pies. No worries about the pie dough - these days, we just gotta make things easy!!! Yay, YOU!!!
Hi Nelly! Thanks for watching and writing in. So, I'm really not sure - it may be too wet. Frozen rhubarb works. If there's too much liquid, it might make the pie weep. Failing that... we do have a great Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp that should work with canned rhubarb - hope this helps!
I'm going to try and make this for my dad 😬. He said he haven't had this pie since his mom made them and wanted this pie again.. Gonna be a surprise haha. Hopefully it turns out good for me haha. Thanks for the recipe!
OMG, is all I can say. I used my butter crust recipe and your filling with my rhubarb straight from our garden and it is amazing. I am subscribing to your channel. 5 stars for you, your video and the recipe.
My Mother in law used to put a couple tablespoons of tapioca (dried) on the bottom of the filling, it absorbed extra moisture and made a layer of yum, have you ever done that? Any rate, I'm trying your recipe and will use the tapioca but unsure of ratios with different fresh fillings. Thanks!
OMG Diva... we gotta get you some! You can make pie, crumble, compote, tarts - JAM! Rhubarb is so your thing! It kind of has the texture of celery... but very tart like a hard apple or quince. Can you find it in your neck of the woods???
Never? OMG!!!! Best pies in order: rhubarb, lemon, apple.... (but never, ever from a store, and PLEASE, never from a restaurant unless it's upscale and pies are truly, honestly completely homemade).
@@Weekendatthecottage I'm all about a pie off, sure~~~:) Just knocked one off y'day...a Cranberry Custard using phylo sheets bottom/top. I've got some rhubarb in the freezer, but I'm fearful it might have freezer burn. Ha...I take a peek at it each time I open the freezer thinkin' of awesome it tastes, but yeah...the cranberries come as close to rhubarb as you can get.
@@Weekendatthecottage *PS* I do my rhubarb w/o a top crust...I love the coloration when it's done * I'm not a huge crust fan. I picked up a tip from s/one a while back, to brush the top with a red jam (w/ever you've got on hand) when it is finished to put a nice shine on the rhubarb. Cheers!
Rhubarb pie is Special, with a capital S. It's sweet and tart at the same time. My friend thinks it's also special because just a bite can bring a happy tear as you're transported back to the carefree summer days of childhood. Yes, it's my friend that tears up, not me... ;)
Tell your "friend" we understand completely! I have a friend just like that; he remembers his grandmother's rhubarb pies with the top crust made crunchy with butter and sugar on top-a thing to die for. Literally, perhaps, LOL.
@@Weekendatthecottage Thank you for your reply, what a surprise. I live in Denmark and have already sent your channel to my American friend. She said she has been watching your videos and finally had to stop and eat breakfast at 11am! Love the simple but very instructive way you do make your recipes. Well done.
So why was it okay for someone to one day say hey let’s rip this weird red stalk thing from the ground and make pie out of it! Why not carrot pie? Or celery pie? Why rhubarb pie? I heard it’s sour but Is it also sweet?
Ariel... this is one of the best questions, ever!!! But there's more to it. Someone ripped this weird red stalk from the ground... and then... discarded the greens from the top before making that pie. Why? Because rhubarb greens are highly poisonous - see, who knew that either? Rhubarb stalks are tart and tangy... and only sweet after added to a sweetened dessert.
