They are a part of of 2022 class. They’re in there with Lionel Richie, Judas Priest, Dolly Parton, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Carly Simon and Pat Benatar. They’re in good company.
I love Jam and Lewis for sure. Baby face of Laface records is up there with them. But don't leave out Barry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, with Motown. None of these groups would have been popular without Motown.
Not by me! I loved everything I ever heard from these guys every since I was a kid, just didn't know them by name until I got older. So much depth. The fast songs move your feet, the slow ones move your heart. They never miss! They were the perfect match for Janet tho, imo.
To think if PRINCE wouldn't have fired JAM& LEWIS we probably wouldn't have had big hits from Janet, New Edition and many others. Truly a blessing in disguise. Thank u for writing the soundtracks of our lives!❤❤
Thank you for this amazing list. A few songs I didn't know Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis had nor even wrote. It's a blessing that Prince fired them years ago cause they gave us so many hits and childhood memories. I really wish the music generation of today had more of this creativity and soul. It's recycled beats, similar voices and with no meaning.
I have so much music by these two in my music collection,CDs and cassettes that I find myself playing a lot more since I inherited a nice vehicle with a CD and cassette player but will be glad when I'm no longer homeless and I can play my albums.I'm oldschool
These Two. Prince Was A Little Nervous. Jimmy And Terry Have A Unique God Given Sound. They Give An Artist A Groove, And The Artist Wears It Well. Awesome They Are! And Part Of "The Original 7" Crew.... Magic
I think jimmy jam and Terry Lewis wrote more hit songs than anybody! These songs topped the charts and won grrammys and this is over probably 40 year period and performed in band the time also!!! Brilliant brilliant brilliant. Admitted learned some things from Prince and gives morris day credit!!
You never disappoint. These songs are such apart of me growing up. I got introduced to Jimmy and Terry by Janet Jackson and New Edition's music. Thanks to my mom she opened my eyes to the fact they had been around for awhile making hits for SO many people. Jimmy and Terry, Babyface, Teddy Riley my goodness I am so happy I came through when I did. Thanks for the trip down memory lane 😎🥳
Their contribution to music is undeniable with each song unique and tailored to the artist. They are gifted songwriters and producers whose music will continue to live on and be respected. I have admired them for years and they deserve all of the recognition and success that they can and will get. There’s way more that should be on this list with Open My Heart-Yolanda Adams and I Wish I Wasn’t-Heather Headley being just two more but, still an awesome representation of their work still. Thanks!
I really really love their ‘older’ signature dance stuff: Janet Jackson, O’Neal, Day, SOS band, Lynn etc. Great video, only thing missing info for me is the year the tracks were published and/or hit the charts.
There are so many different sounds in the music industry. There is the Philly sound the Motown sound the sound of Los Angeles (Solar) The Ohio sound etc. These guys manage to write and produce music that was tailored to the artist. You would never know the same person wrote and produced all these songs.
Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis created some of the greatest music ever made. They left out Johnny Gill's Maybe. Although it was never released as a music video, it is on of the greatest R&B songs ever made!
Terry and Jerome were two of my best buds when I was in high school. Terry was a year ahead of me, and Jerome was a couple of years behind me. But, I'll never forget how very kind they both were to this lonely, homesick girl who moved from Omaha to Minneapolis at a very important point in my life. Very cool guys. I wish they had added "Heaven" by SOLO to this list. That was a great album.
Janet J is their muse! But I love them with Alexander O’Neal. Imagine having so much good music that Tender Love was only #4 on the charts! I miss the 80s-90s R&B
Keith Alpert Ft Lisa Keith & Janet Jackson- Making Love In The Rain...should be somewhere on there near the top of the list. Johnny Gill- Let's Just Run Away, as well.
These guys defined my middle and high school years, and I still love the sound! Everything they did for everyone was great but the very best stuff is their work for Janet.
Damn they were rolling thanks guy's we all still love your music and still listen to your music even today well the greatest folks don't know wake up folks and hey I am a 66 year old man and heard lots of music in my time all kinds but these two has to be up there with the best and thinking of it who's close
In one word: Best , these Guys are such talented song Writers even going across Genes are amazing. Thank you Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis , your songs were my youth and forever in my future, much love Brothers proud of your accomplishments ❤️🖤💚✊🏾
It’s safe to say Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produce, and wrote 52% of the songs that were played on RB stations in 80s and 90 s.There no Gamble and Huff, but dam there good yeah really good.I would rank them as best duo next to gamble huff in producing and writing.
The Good - You didn't overlook S.O.S. Band and JJ is highly represented here (rightly so) The Bad - How could you exclude What's Missing by Alexander O'Neal? That's bordering on criminal for me. Its my ATF Flyte Tyme production. The Ugly - Impossible. Every one of those 40 songs I've heard multiple times. Nothing threw me for a loop (maybe except your #1 but that is still a JAM) Thanks for taking the time to upload.
Going this list, I'm like "what in the world could be number one?" Optimistic is definitely a logical choice if not THE logical choice. Great list. I don't even feel like you left anything off even though I know there are songs I like more than what's on here. That speaks to the quality of their catalog
You can always tell when jimmy jam and terry lewis and even baby face produced something. Those guys a signature sound that’s in their music I can’t describe it but I know it when I hear it.
My musical childhood all wrapped up. Loved the inclusion of Cherelle & Sounds Of Blackness scoring #1. Certainly the H J abet years had to be included . Dope countdown !
Yo, Theophilus! You ain't no joke with this one! It is an AMAZING list of mind-blowing jams spanning my entire life. Funky hit (and ballads) all day all night. Props to you and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. True genius and they continue to humbly inspire producers and fans the world over.
From what I remember, Jellybean Johnson helped write Pretty Brown Eyes. He previously was the drummer for The Time and The Family. He left to go work at Flyte Tyme studios with Jam and Lewis. 1988-2003 were the years Jellybean was at Flyte Tyme. Pretty Brown Eyes came out in 1991.
