Arabic is so essential? I find with English and French you can manage yourself at least in the big cities. Besides that, it has many dialects and it's so difficult to learn for someone who speaks a Romance or Germanic Language, talking as a world traveler point of view.

Like I said, if we're talking travel it really depends on the regions you want to visit. And you make a good point in regards to dialects for Arabic! From my experience learning it earlier this year, Egyptian is a good option that's relatively widely understood due to media :)

@@LindsayDowLanguages thanks for your answer! Maybe I wasn't so clear but when I talk about "with English and French you can manage yourself at least in the big cities" I'm talking about the countries where Arabic is the main language. So my question is if it's really important to learn it, considering the difficulty for an English speaker or a Romance Language speaker (my mother tongue is Spanish) and the dialects; when we have English and languages more similar to ours like French, to manage ourselves in at least biggest cities in the Arabic world, but also cover other big countries or areas that with Arabic we couldn't. I don't know the reality in the Arabic world and how so much you can develop with English and French, so this the "why" of my question. I can say that Spanish is mandatory in Latin America, because with only English is almost impossible to do something and it's also kind of difficult to do things by yourself in touristic places, the same applies for Brazil and Portuguese (with quite effort, somehow you can deal the difficulties with Spanish). So I used to think is more essential to learn Portuguese for example, than Arabic, because with English and French you can afford this world (at least on a superficial level) and cover other places so they would be more essential, but without Portuguese you lost almost all the Brazilian contact.

I agree with a lot what you said but about learning the language you like it depends most people will be interested in the largest languages either because of media or because they meet a lot of native speakers irl or online. but sometimes people get interested in smaller languages because the languages sound unique or for historic reasons languages like Irish or Xhosa but unfortunately i couldn't find many opportunities to use. them and i get bored when i try to do immersion with these languages. i can only find things like sports or sitcoms in these languages. its content that a lot of people enjoy but i don't. but a lot of people say you should only learn the biggest languages like mandarin or Spanish .they even say languages like Portuguese are not useful because they have less than 300 million speakers. but they are wrong too. like a good example i found is Romanian people tell me it was a waste of time but i get to use it a lot compared to some bigger languages.

I'm curious to see how AI tech will help with auto-generating interesting content in more diverse languages (even if for a good few years, we have not quite perfect translations and robot voices! It's a start nonetheless...!)
